We landed here while looking for a place for a nightcap. Friendly staff, a quaint place, fair prices, and delicious food.

Authentic German restaurant. Traditional food. We had schnitzel. Huge portion and really good cutlet. Friendly and fast service. I highly recommend it.

We had dinner on June 6, 2025, at this cozy restaurant with a traditional atmosphere. Very friendly service and good food. It would definitely be one of my regulars if I lived in Hamburg!

While looking for a spontaneous place to eat Labskaus, we found it on the map and came here trusting the comments. The positive comments are true. A classic, self-aware menu. Satisfying portions and delicious food. It is especially worth mentioning the smiling, pleasant conversation and attentive service. Everything was good. We recommend this place and if we come back, we will stop by.

A little insider tip for Hamburg. A unique and quaint restaurant. A beautiful menu, traditional cuisine with that certain something. And the service was simply excellent, very warm and attentive. We'll be happy to return.

Came here twice in a week it was so good!

Friday evening 20:00. A very mediocre schnitzel. More breadcrumbs than meat and the taste was flat. Potatoes were tasty which was of course nice but with a schnitzel dish the schnitzel should be the queen. The price-quality ratio is completely out of whack and completely lost. Too expensive. Staff is friendly and proactive, especially the somewhat older waiter. Unfortunately I do not recommend this restaurant and it is advisable to look further.

Restaurant serving classic regional German cuisine located in the center of Hamburg. A place with a rather old-fashioned decor, wood, wooden chairs and tables, and dim lighting. The place is quite spacious. The menu consists of well-known Hamburg dishes, as well as meat, fish, salads, and a few desserts. We were two people for dinner and ordered two dishes. Hamburger Pannfisch is a hot tray with three fish fillets: salmon, perch, and redfish. These fillets are lightly floured and fried. They are accompanied by roasted potatoes with bacon and onion, pickles, and a delicious mustard sauce. It was quite good. The other dish we ordered was the Matjesfilet Hamburger Art, which features a pair of Matjes fillets (herring) with a beetroot, onion, apple, and cucumber sauce, accompanied by the typical roasted potatoes with bacon and onion, plus a mediocre salad. The tomatoes I've tried at the various restaurants I've been to have been bland, and this one was no exception. The dish overall was quite good; the herring had a good flavor, and the beetroot sauce was quite tasty. Summary: Well-prepared regional classics, everything was fine. Price: Matjes €13.80, Pannfisch €16.90, small water €2.20, Jever beer 0.4L €3.70, total €36.60 Score: 7 Visited in December 2018

We stopped in spontaneously and luckily got a seat :-) We give it 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ and will gladly come back on our next visit to Hamburg.

Good food at good prices. Specialises in Auflauf which is like oven baked casseroles. Though I had the Scholle which was a huge portion with Bratkartoffeln with bacon which was tasty. Service was friendly and prompt. Though what was a complete letdown was that we waited over two hours for two courses. Not even an apology or anything which dampened the night for us. Would have loved to stay for dessert but after two hours we were tired and just wanted to home and rest.

If you want genuine German dishes, this is the place to go. The food was really tasty and the portions were big. The place felt like a really a authentic German restaurant. Lots of guests there so it might be good to make a reservation.

If you come from Mexico, you will love this place, traditional, abundant and tasty.

I waited for 40 minutes after ordering and no food had arrived to my table. I went to who seemed to be the manager to raise my complaint and he not only did not recognise the bad service and apologised but justified the massive delay and was absolute impolite, even rude. A total disgrace of place. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Find another and do not go to this place.

A wonderful, quaint restaurant that we visit at least once during every visit to Hamburg. They serve typical Hamburg dishes, such as Labskaus, as well as other dishes. Casseroles are a particular focus (see the play on words in the name...). The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere because the tables aren't too far apart, creating a lively atmosphere. The restaurant is often very busy, especially in the evenings, so reservations are always recommended. The service is very helpful and friendly; you immediately feel at home. I can therefore fully recommend the Laufauf restaurant if you want to enjoy a special culinary experience.

Original Hamburg ambience...good, home-style food with taste!

While searching for a restaurant, we came across Laufauf. Everything was just perfect. The welcome was friendly, the service impeccable, and the food absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back and can wholeheartedly recommend Laufauf.

Laufauf is a famous german recipe commonly known as casserole in english or one pot baked food. Mainly the base is potato and then spinach,meat etc is added. The restaurant is located in central Hamburg and easy to get places. They have seasonal recipes like Spargel season. We enjoyed the food.

Excellent place, food and suuper kind staff

We were there for the first time because of the very good reviews and ate casseroles there twice. I had a casserole with pork fillet, mushrooms, asparagus and carrots in slices. The dish didn't convince me at all in terms of taste or craftsmanship. That's why 1 star, the service was great, so we liked the ambience 5 stars.

Laufauf, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, serves classic North German and Hamburg dishes. The restaurant is located in the Kontorhausviertel and is accordingly traditionally furnished. The service is friendly and the portions are enough for those who are very hungry.

haben auf Empfehlung hin das Lokal besucht. Es war total voll und super Ambiente. leider mussten wir über 90 Minuten auf das Essen warten. mein Spinatauflauf war zwar heiss, aber fade+wässerig. Der Kellner hat das ganze gerettet mit seiner Art und ne zweite Runde Daddeldu - darum 3 statt 1Punkt PS: Personalausfall ist kein Argument. Geschmack sollte immer top sein (warten ist zweitrangig).

We were there twice. The first time spontaneously, we were looking for a nice restaurant, and the second time with a table reservation. Both times we were surprised at how comfortable it was there. We can only recommend eating and drinking. Small restaurant in Hamburg...but really great. The service is very accommodating and the food is amazing. We'll definitely be back

Quaint restaurant with friendly staff and large portions. I ordered the Hamburg specialty “Rundstück warm”. The roast was spread in thin slices on bun halves. Unfortunately the meat was quite dry and I therefore had to buy a lot. My wife was very happy with her Labskaus.

We went for lunch with a group of 40 people. We agreed in advance on three dishes to choose from. It all worked out wonderfully. The service was great and the food was very tasty.

The service staff is kind and my friend, who doesn't speak German, is still friendly and friendly. This time I ordered the hamburger specialty fish steak and fried pork chop. All delicious! Great food, but be prepared to wait a bit… Laufauf is a little hidden gem in Hamburg for those who love typical local cuisine. I went there with my wife on a Wednesday evening having booked in advance and we didn’t have to wait to be seated. The dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and the taste is really excellent. The casseroles are excellent and you can choose between two sizes, small and large. The wait to be served, as also written on the menu, is about 25 minutes minimum. In fact, the only thing to consider is that the waiting times can be a bit long, especially during peak hours. However, the wait is repaid by the quality of the food. The staff is always helpful and friendly. If you are not in a hurry and want to enjoy a delicious meal, it is definitely worth a try!

The service is very nice, courteous and short waiting times. The selection is varied, the quality of the food is really very good and beautifully prepared. You should try Labskaus. The prices are reasonable compared to the performance.

The interior is rather rustic. The casseroles are very good! You can decide for yourself whether to use potato or rice as the basis.

The restaurant was recommended to me a long time ago by an older gentleman who loves Hamburg as much as I do! It was Saturday evening, it was super crowded, we had reservations, but we got there early because we were just exhausted and hungry! We received a super friendly welcome and a few minutes later we had the chance to sit down at a nice table in the back of the restaurant… The food was great! It's kale season, I had to take advantage of it 🤩 I would love to come back next time I visit Hamburg 😊

I found the service to be slow, okay, the place was full, but she smiled and the food (kale) could have been a little more seasoned. The Kassler was dry, fried potatoes were crispy but also bland. It's a shame because I know the run-up from before. It was better, maybe we just had a bad day

Tried the lunch menu here. The goulash was delicious, but I would have expected more in terms of taste. The service was super friendly and in a good mood. It is definitely advisable to make a reservation for lunch too. I will definitely try again.

On Saturday January 4th, 2025 we wanted to go to the Laufauf restaurant that we know well. But what happened to us there. Read for yourself. We entered the restaurant around 12:30 p.m. and went down the small stairs. There was no sign of the staff from this angle. But hearing seconds later "Can't you say hello" was the first approach. After trying to explain that she (the employee) hadn't seen her, she was immediately told that it was still closed. Strange door opens, advertisements are on outside and more guests are already in the restaurant. When asked when it would be open, the answer was that it was actually still closed but we could wait. So we were shown to a table quite far back, note there are a lot of reservations. My question about whether we could order drinks was brushed off with the comment "It's still closed". We were just about to sit down and wait when the employee went to the other table and complained loudly about us. “No hello and just order something”. We then left the restaurant without saying hello or goodbye. Dear Laufauf team, I work in a job with a lot of customer contact. That doesn't work at all. You won't be seeing us in your restaurant any time soon. MFG F.Busse
