Lucas, our waiter, was absolutely fantastic! He was very attentive, friendly and always had a smile on his face. The recommendations were excellent and he made us feel very comfortable throughout the entire visit. What was particularly remarkable was how quickly he responded to our requests without seeming intrusive. A big compliment for the excellent service!

Its proper German restaurant. My partner and I had lunch day before Christmas. Atmosphere was lovely. Waitress was very friendly and attentive made sure we have everything we need on the table. Food was delaitfull as well. Just made sure you have coins for toilet ..😁

Very good food in a German restaurant with very fast service

I thought about the evening for a long time, we were here for dinner with the company. The menu was selected in advance and unfortunately did not meet my personal taste at all. There was kale with fish patties, then fish with rice and mustard sauce. Everything was nicely presented but just not to my taste. I was most disappointed with the dessert, it was supposed to be a chocolate creme brulee, but it was more of a caramel flan and there was nothing flamed here. No crust, nothing except cold caramel pudding. Our table was beautifully set and the service was great. Definitely 5 stars for that.

Four of us dined: two adults and two children. The service is fast, the food is delicious. It was my birthday, we brought candles, and they brought me a cake with candles. We reserved a place in advance, although there were already places available in the evening after the opera.

Housed in the neo-Gothic vaults of Munich's town hall, the Ratskeller offers a cozy atmosphere in which to eat and relax, and the opportunity to take a look at the city's history. In the summer months it is also possible to eat in the Prunkhof. The kitchen offers down-to-earth Bavarian specialties such as roast duck, pork knuckle and sauerbraten, but their best dish is the roast pork, served with a piece of rind. They have a wide selection of beers (Löwenbräu and Franziskaner draft beers are excellent).

Beautiful venue. Right in the center and very easy to reach. I ate on my lunch break and found friendly and fast service. They brought me a very good salad together with the ordered dish. Very good breaded meat, I ordered it with spazle, good. I also asked for a glass of wine, I'm not sure what they brought me, maybe a German wine, I found it good. Very friendly and smiling staff. Very good and beautiful, I recommend it because it is a typical place where it is worth eating.

Yesterday evening I went to the Ratskeller with three Chinese people to say goodbye to Munich to demonstrate Bavarian hospitality again and was very disappointed - even though I had a very good meal there! Despite a reservation, a modest, too small table at a corner - even though entire parts of the restaurant were empty - without reservation signs!!! For the starter - bratwurst with sauerkraut and Reiberdatschi - the mustard came to the table in the beautiful original plastic bottle - that's not possible! Ratskeller!!!!! The vegetables in the dumpling consisted only of heavily soaked, greasy dough - no trace of crispy - with a minimal amount of vegetables The goulash soup, small and very little meat - but above all totally over salted, potato soup ok but also heavily salted The quality of the roast pork was ok, with a few good crispy pieces, but otherwise rather boring Service was ok

National food serving is okay, but not super good. I recommend pork here. Beer is great too. Bulgarian waiter is trying to be funny, but some would perceive it as mocking. He also asked for the tips, and I don’t like it. If I’d like to leave a tip, I would! No need to push on guests. Atmosphere of dancing grannys is awesome.

Best restaurant I had the pleasure of dining in while visiting Munich. Meal was fabulous as was the service. Cordon Bleu was delicious.

A real highlight in Munich! The choice of dishes is large, and there are also many vegetarian options. My dish was fresh, delicious and perfectly seasoned. The service was quick, friendly and competent. A must for all food lovers!

The food was good, the waitress was kind and the environment is truly very special and needs to be redone.

The restaurant is as I remember it: offering the true classic spirit of Bavarian culture and hospitality. But the service that night left something to be desired. There are 3 entrances. The one we took welcomed us with a red tape strung across the stairs. Were they closing? Packed full? None of the wait staff would explain to us. Eventually we learned that there was a line forming at the main entrance. People were randomly being pulled out of line based on table availability. The food was excellent but service was slow. The manager brought my wife her food while my order disappeared and had to be tracked down. After eating it was another half hour before we got our bill and then there was an issue with their entire point of sale system. I hope that things improve back to how I remembered this restaurant when I came several times during my tenure in Munich undergoing technical training

It is located directly in the basement of the historic town hall, therefore fascinating for this setting characterized by its stupendous vaults. Otherwise crowded, a little noisy like other beer bars in Munich, service a little chaotic. Of the dishes I particularly appreciated the Jägerschnitzel, an excellent, very tender suckling pig, presented with fried cauliflower, a delicious creamy sauce with two types of mushrooms and accompanied by spätzle.

I booked the table before leaving home, I drove 8 hours in hellish traffic, I drove under the heavy snow for over 1 hour and finally I arrived in Munich. Finally my family and I arrive at the restaurant and order dinner and drinks. It's 9.30pm the restaurant is almost empty, only a few tables of Italians, a drink and an appetizer arrive... then nothing!!! We ask for what was ordered but the kitchen is already closed....and us?!? The waitress apologizes mortified... but there is no longer any way to have dinner!!! cI ask for the bill, they bring it to me, I pay and I leave... but did the bill really have to be paid?!? I leave the difficult decision to you! I will certainly never set foot in this caravanserai that someone dares to call a restaurant!!! Absolutely to be avoided, due to lack of professionalism and attention to the customer. A very, very dissatisfied customer!!

I entered the restaurant as soon as it opened at 11:00.I was told that food would be served starting at 11:30, so I chose the menu while drinking beer.

My mom was here with her tour group. The Ratskeller was fully occupied, but everything went smoothly. The group was accommodated in a separate room. The waiters were super friendly right up until the end, even though there was so much going on. Although our Bavarian food is often too difficult for her to digest, she enjoyed it here. I'm glad that Mom was able to have a nice experience on her trip here.

Good food in a very traditional place. But if you are in a hurry better avoid. It's very big, it's crowded and everything is very slow. No one can take a two-hour stay to eat.

Place found by chance on a cold Monday in December. We only waited 5 minutes and they seated us. Daniel served us, a very helpful, attentive and nice guy :) The goulash soup is highly recommended :)

Reading the good reviews we decided to have a quick dinner in this restaurant, thinking we would find a typical Bavarian place instead: There was an Italian piano bar, the goulash although it looked good, was really too spicy and at times salty, bitter and caused us heartburn for the whole evening, the münichwurst were not excellent. Furthermore, which in our opinion is unacceptable, you have to pay to use the toilets, and yet they are almost unusable, with urine splashes everywhere and clearly accumulated dirt.

The ambiance and taste are great. Mr. Yılmaz, who took care of us, you are wonderful... Thank you so much. I advise you not to leave Munich without coming here.

Absolutely recommended. The portions of the food are just right, you will feel full but not full. The employees are super nice and you just feel right at home.

The Ratskeller in Munich is definitely a classic tourist trap in a positive sense. Due to the top location and the typical Bavarian dishes, as a tourist you have to go in once. Although there are plenty of seats, there can be a wait - we got a table straight away without a reservation, but when we left there was a big queue. The menu is limited, but the dishes are excellent, nicely prepared and the staff is attentive. The prices for the food are also accurate, only the drinks are charged higher and, for example, a Cola wheat costs over 6 euros. Nevertheless, it was worth a visit and we can recommend the establishment to every tourist. We'll be back.

In the heart of Marienplatz, a very old and renowned restaurant, located in the cellars of the Rathaus, period decoration, incredible charm! tasty typical dishes (the wienerschnitzel are excellent), very popular with tourists so you have to be patient....the employees are professional and helpful despite the stress. It is worth a visit despite the somewhat high prices.

Typical Bavarian restaurant installed under the Munich City Hall. You can tell that the restaurant has been in operation for many years, the decorations are old but beautiful. The food is delicious and well prepared, and for how busy it is, the truth is that they serve super fast. The staff is very friendly, I am Chilean and we met a compatriot who has worked there for years, we were able to share a pleasant conversation.

The place is so big. I didn't expect it to be such a big place to serve 1100 people at a time. It's underground and there are so many tables. The food was also pretty good. I ordered fried chicken and it was the best. Crispy and not at all oily. The fries were also good. Overall I loved the experience and ambience. Also if you are in urgent need of a condom there is a condom vending machine in W.C. 😂

Our evening in the Ratskeller was an absolute success and I can only recommend the restaurant. In addition to the restaurant, it also offers a lounge area and various events. It's fine dining, but I think the prices are fair. Vegan and vegetarian also represented and also delicious. The service was quick and courteous, the goose with red cabbage was a dream. We had reserved but, according to the staff, we can still find a place somewhere without a reservation. Great: The Ratskeller holds around 1000 people, but it doesn't seem impersonal at all and you don't feel lost. The design offers several separate and individually designed rooms and a more family atmosphere! The cozy and inviting ambience is absolutely impressive - winding architecture and lovingly designed inventory. Artfully painted walls and the vaulted cellar transport you to another time. We'd love to come back.

Best place in Munich. I was very surprised and pleased by the service: when we arrived we saw a line, but the staff was so attentive and professional that we only waited a few minutes. The atmosphere is stunningly beautiful, as is the painting on the walls. I didn’t take a photo, I was busy with delicious potato soup 👀

This is our first time in Munich. We actually wanted to go to the Hofbräuhaus (it was full) and spontaneously went to the Ratskeller. It was the best decision, it was sooooo delicious. The atmosphere is also very nice.

We had the Christmas party here yesterday. The welcome was a bit chaotic, but then the service was friendly and attentive. But the quality of the food was surprisingly not particularly good. Duck for 37.50 was very small and very fatty, tasted okay but nothing special. The red cabbage was overcooked and didn't taste good at all. How can you achieve that? Other of our guests were also not satisfied with the food. It is not appropriate for a central town hall venue. You expect other quality. Too bad, too bad...

We are vacationers from Saxony-Anhalt and were in this restaurant for the first time. The staff was super friendly and the food was great. I can only recommend it. 👍

I recently visited the Ratskeller in Munich and while I found the service genuinely attentive and friendly, the overall value felt a bit off. The prices seemed higher than the quality of the food warranted. However, given its prime location at the heart of the city, it’s easy to see why it attracts tourists like myself, offering a chance to soak in the Bavarian architecture along with the local cuisine. I’d recommend trying it once for the experience, but personally, I wouldn’t go back again.

They have authentic German meals in this Bavarian restaurant located in Marienplatz. I went to dinner with some friends and it was lovely. The ambiance is so nice and not overly bright, our waiter was very polite too. I ordered the Munich Sauerbraten which was very tender beef slices in gravy that came with a ball of potato dumplings and red cabbage. We also had the cheese plate which was nothing special, the pretzels were pretty good, and the appetizer with cheeses, sausages, fish, and some other things I could not identify and that was interesting. I was so sad we were all too full to get the dessert platter.

Husband said Pork Belly was the best he's had, soft & fell apart with perfect Crackling. I had the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel which was delicious & packed with cheese. Also good place to get a BIG Beer!

The Ratskeller's toilets have been a problem for years. Even though it's an upscale store, you don't feel comfortable using the restrooms. All the toilets didn't seem clean. There is no disinfectant for the toilet lids. Nothing is done about the bad smell that hits you when you enter. There is no disinfectant and no paper towels. No automatic soap dispenser and no automatic faucet. There is always a very friendly cleaner sitting in front of the toilets. Tips in toilets are welcome. But only with clean ones. But the cleaning lady can't do much about it if the restaurant doesn't want to renew and improve its toilets.

We had dinner in the Ratskeller. The food tastes like 'mass processing'. The sauce for the meat probably came from a plastic bag, thick with far too many mushrooms, the taste took some getting used to and the food was only served 'warm' - so it cooled down quickly. Will not visit Ratskeller again.

Great atmosphere in the basement. What disappointed us a bit was the service. He could have been a little friendlier. The portions were also rather small. Apart from the Kaiserschmarren. Otherwise it's nice to stay there.

Food was fine but service was awful. First of all we were waiting for menu for 10 minutes. Than they forgot about our additional order. Then they bring wrong tea and that was second flush tea and they provided us only one cup of hot water so there is no way to do it correctly yourself. After we declined to leave a tip - the waiter was not happy and told us that we can help yourself and pay bill at the counter. If you're manager- receipt trace number is 079911. Hope that you will address this issues.

Rustic ambience in the vaulted cellar; The food portions range - depending on what you order - from too little to huge, but it tastes good. The prices are in the upper Munich range, but it was still quite full. Unfortunately it was terribly stuffy, so many people gradually developed headaches. The service was fine. OK for special events, but we wouldn't come back for in between.

The food was very good, but I'm giving 4 stars on service not because of the actual service itself (which was excellent) but because of the American-style tipping and "tip not included" on the bill, which I was unimpressed with.

What a wonderful dining experience. We visited Munich for our 21st wedding anniversary and chose the Ratskeller for dinner one evening and we are so glad we did. The venue was fantastic, the service super and the food was perfect. Thank you for a fantastic evening.

Best Bavarian food at the best location in Munich. This place is huge so even when it's fully booked, it's likely that one can have a table without a long wait. Besides the traditional dishes like pork knuckle, they also offered international options like Vienna Schnitzel and beef short ribs. The English menu even comes with pictures for each dish, very handy for tourists. Unless you are after some local draft beer, the Ratskeller is a perfect place for first time Munich visitors. And it seems very popular among local companies to have their year-end dinners too.

The place is truly characteristic and evocative, vaulted ceiling, columns, small more private rooms created from the corners of the rooms, beautiful chandeliers, in short, very beautiful. The service was courteous and fast. The shank was good and plentiful and also at a fair price considering the location and the venue.

The higher prices initially put us off given the size (over 800 seats), but the quality is absolutely top class, the service is perfect and the rooms are extremely well done. Cozy niches and corners everywhere, so the size doesn't matter at all. Not a tourist trap, but top gastronomy! Even without a reservation on an Advent weekend, you won't be turned away, but will be treated like a king, incredibly professional!

Weiner schnitzel and pork knuckle were fantastic

This was a very disappointing experience from the start. We had a table booked for 16 and they had it listed as a table for 8. The manager was rude and denied the booking was for 16. Eventually he came back and admitted there had been an error. We were put in a very out of the way area with no restaurant atmosphere. We were sat on 3 separate tables and it took nearly 45 minutes just to be served a drink. The waiter was very nice but he was clearly overstretched with his work load. My food looked nothing like the picture and it was only warm and very average. I would describe it as edible. My friends soup was just warm and also the baked Camembert she ordered had to be remade and you only got two pieces and the description showed three pieces. Waiter helped where he could. Again it was just OK. Food wasn’t served together so not a dining experience. Some ladies on the other tables had nearly finished their meal when others were just receiving there’s. Management were rude and very dismissive in general and there was no apology or acceptance of fault from anyone. Roman was our waiter and we were lead to believe her could lose his job over our complaint. None of our issues were to do with his service but he became quite stressed when we were trying to sort the bill. It was not a pleasurable experience at all and not a cheap meal by any means. Very disappointing and I would never return or recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The Ratskeller is now part of the 'Night of the Proms' event for us. We were all very very satisfied! The waitresses were particularly good! We'll be back next year.

Definitely lives up to the reputation. The food was wonderful - we had Wiener schnitzel and chocolate torte. The service was friendly and very kind. Plan ahead if possible and make reservations. We were here during the Christmas markets on a Wednesday evening and the line for walk ins was quite long - luckily it was just the two of us so we were seated quite quickly. Would recommend you not miss this on your time in Munich
