Raph's BBQ in Köln

Delicious BBQ experience with small flaws - but definitely worth a visit! I went to Raph's BBQ Diner on Saturday and tried the Holy Trinity Platter as well as Raph's Smoky Bratwurst and Skin-on Fries - a real feast for meat lovers! The brisket and the pulled pork were outstanding: wonderfully tender, juicy and tasty. The two BBQ sauces included – a real poem, perfectly balanced and wonderfully aromatic. Unfortunately, I was less impressed by the ribs, which I personally found to be too fatty. The taste is ok, but a little more balance would have been nice. The coleslaw was crunchy and tasty, the pickled onions went perfectly with it with their mild acidity. The mac 'n' cheese was okay, but for my taste it could have used a little more spice or character. The cornbread tasted good, but was a bit too dry and crumbly for me. The smoky bratwurst tasted great, but I found it too big. I would find a smaller portion at a correspondingly lower price more attractive - then I might even have wanted to try a second variety. Finally, a delicious brownie rounded off the meal successfully - juicy and sweet, just right as a dessert. The staff were consistently attentive and very friendly - you feel welcome here. The ambience in the winter garden is simple, somewhat reminiscent of a beer garden: functional, but with charm. A small downer for me was that dogs are allowed. During my visit there was a very barking dog at the next table, which was quite loud due to the acoustics in the winter garden. The fact that he even appeared under my table wasn't ideal - but that's a personal assessment and isn't included in the rating because the topic of dog tolerance is very individual. Overall 4 out of 5 stars – a successful BBQ spot that I can definitely recommend!

The restaurant is in a tennis clubhouse. Everything seems a bit run down, there was an LED strip hanging loosely on the wall. The toilet fell into pieces when used. Food was tasty but very expensive. Service was great. Delicious BBQ with backyard character. Unfortunately overpriced for the shabby atmosphere. 200€ for 4 people at the wobbling table. No cell phone reception and no WiFi either. Too bad

We were there for the first time today. There were three of us, and the owner greeted us very warmly at the parking lot, where he immediately showed us where to park our motorcycles. Since it's practically impossible to get a table without a reservation, he found space for us. The friendly waitress came right away and took our drink orders. The menu and drinks had such a wide selection ☺️ We ordered a colorful plate of everything. It was simply delicious. We will definitely be back. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. The decor is comfortable. Since I love country music, the music matched the atmosphere. Tennis and golf are also available outside, and if I read correctly, there's also an indoor tennis court. Simply fantastic from A to Z. Kudos to everyone!!!

It was very awesome, the food was great and the service took good care of us. The brisket was my highlight and I have never had a better one. The highlight for my family was the pulled beef/pulled pork. A lovely evening with lots of BBQ delicacies.

Today we had the beef platter for two people – and absolutely loved it! Change requests were implemented very easily. The brisket, pulled beef and burnt ends were wonderfully tender and flavorful. The buffalo wings and the pastrami sandwich were also a real highlight and complemented the meat perfectly. The sides like corn on the cob, cole slaw and mac & cheese were freshly made and very tasty. What struck us particularly positively was the successful combination of all the components - everything fit together perfectly, supported by two excellent BBQ sauces, the taste of which was ideally matched to the menu. The service was attentive, friendly and accommodating. My wife had ordered an additional sauce as a precaution, but she didn't need it - the meat was already delicious on its own. We will definitely come back and recommend Raph’s BBQ with full conviction!

I drove there with my friend for an extra 1.5 hours and I have to say that our high expectations were exceeded. We had the beef platter for 2 people. The meat was really amazing, you can really tell how much passion there was in the whole concept. The sides didn't disappoint us either. Just like the BBQ sauces, which also blew us away. The service was nice and accommodating. All in all it was really great. Of course it's not cheap, but when you consider how much time goes into it and the quality it offers, it's really worth every cent. The only criticism would be that the food came too quickly but that wasn't a problem for us.

Was there today with a work colleague, Friday evening, without a reservation. We still got a place. The service was very friendly and on the ball, the food was very tasty and plentiful. I can absolutely recommend it, but it's better to reserve in advance.

The food was super tasty. My husband especially enjoyed it. In terms of price, I would say it's okay for the portions. We reserved online in advance. That was also necessary (Friday 5 p.m.)! Without a reservation I think you have to be lucky. There are enough parking spaces available. What was a bit of a shame was that the playground was unfortunately closed when we visited. We would have liked to have used it in this good weather. If we're in the area again, we'd love to stop by again!

The service stood out here. We were always being watched. I don't need to talk about food. Very good BBQ. I smoke and grill a lot myself. No difference to making it yourself. And if you know how much work goes into something like this, the prices are justified.

We shared the pork plate between the two of us and were more than full. Food was delicious and something special. However, I was missing the final kick.

We were there last Friday, and the food and especially the staff impressed me. What completely shocked me afterward was that the management continues to advertise Nestlé products on Instagram. Even though many comments also signal opposition. It's probably just ignored. It's a shame to sell yourself out for a few pennies in the short term instead of focusing on your own expertise.

We were there spontaneously yesterday at lunchtime and were lucky that we were able to reserve a place for two shortly beforehand. The ambience was obviously designed with a lot of love and dedication. Both the outside and inside areas are inviting and decorated in an appropriate style and are in no way reminiscent of a typical clubhouse, which one might think given the location. The service is friendly and really very attentive, no matter which of the two ladies and the gentleman walked past our table, if a drink was empty, we were immediately asked if we would like anything else and everyone asked if it tasted good and everything was OK. For food: we had the What the Beef platter for two people with an additional 200g of pulled pork. An absolute surprise for us because our favorite and previously totally underestimated were the brisket burnt ends. How can cubes of meat taste SO good and be SO tender?! The brisket was also incredibly tasty and tender. The mac 'n' cheese could have been a little spicier for our taste because it seemed a bit off compared to the incredibly well and deliciously seasoned meat and coleslaw and was a bit underwhelming, but they still had their right to exist. We were only a little disappointed with the cornbread (and that's complaining at a high level, it was still a 4.9 out of 5) because it came to us cold from the refrigerator and the taste was completely lost. When we tried again towards the end of the meal and it was a little warmer, the taste came out better. It would have been perfect if lightly toasted, that would have been the icing on the cake. And another suggestion for improvement (although I don't know whether the toilets belong to the tennis club and the restaurant has no say in that) - in the women's toilet there was a toilet paper holder that was just a straight bar next to the toilet brush, which meant that the paper always unrolled itself and fell onto the toilet brush. An improvement with a horizontal holder would be urgently needed because it is simply not nice and hygienic. But as I said, I don't know if the restaurant can do anything about it and those were really the only two tiny points that could be improved. Otherwise and more importantly, the main points why you go out to eat were 100% top! We would love to come back and have already raved to our families and friends that they also have to eat there (with us haha).

So, I had to let my visit take a few days to write a fair review. First of all: food was good to very good. Actually there is nothing to complain about. BUT... I just put a Hunni on the table for myself. I'm basically ok with that, but then everything has to fall apart! There's nothing to complain about about the meat, it's great, it costs what it costs, there's work in it, the end. But if I get a "bbq cucumber salad" for 5 dollars, which most Muddi's probably do better, and for good money I get a bowl of slightly hard, relatively average-tasting beans, you have to be able to address that in the price category. That's better. I will still go there again, there is still a lot on the menu that I would like to eat 👍

It's worth it! Yes, you pay a little more but I like the modular concept. You don't have to go through the hassle of swapping side dishes etc., you just choose them separately and don't have to take any. The bacon cheeseburger and the platters are recommended! Likewise the homemade lemonade. Gladly again 👍☺️

We were there with a large group and ordered a platter for 8 people. All 8 were full. Side dishes such as fries or bread could be a little more, the quantity was not enough for 8 people. But the repeat order arrived quickly. All in all, a really tasty meal. Gladly again.

We visited Raph’s BBQ in February last year and were impressed by the Texas Heaven platter for 4 people, which cost €169 at the time. On our recent visit we noticed that the price has increased to €189, while the portion size has noticeably decreased. We also missed popular side dishes on the platter such as onion rings, the BBQ chicken sandwich and the chili poppers. The previously included Pork Belly Burnt Ends were replaced with regular Pork Belly, which was fine by us. Price increases are understandable, but please do not reduce the quantity on the plate. The nice and friendly service is positive.

I was with you this evening with a few work colleagues and friends and we had ordered a table for 10 people, but unfortunately in the end there were only 6. But that wasn't a problem and we were able to sit at the planned table in your winter garden. The ambience was really nice and with the patio heaters used it was pleasantly warm, even though the winter garden was not a permanent part of the building. Unfortunately, it was a bit too dark and you had to make a bit of effort to read the map if you didn't want to use your cell phone flashlight. But enough about that. Let's get to the important part, the food. Five of us ordered the Texas Heaven Platter for 4 people and we were not disappointed in terms of the amount of meat, side dishes and sauces. The meat was an absolute dream, the brisket was juicy, tender and perfectly cooked, the St.Louis ribs were very tender and tasty, if a little too fatty. The drumsticks, chicken wings and sausages were also an absolute delight. The side dishes, which consisted of fries, coleslaw, mixed pickles, onions, baked beans and mac'n'cheese, were also very tasty. It felt like everything was homemade and you could taste it. When it came to the sauces, you also had the feeling that they were all freshly made. Let's come to the drinks: we all had two drinks each and would definitely have drunk more if the drinks hadn't all been priced a little higher, but that's understandable in this day and age. However, it would be nice if the drinks were also available in large format and not just in 0.33 or 0.4 (Kölsch). As for the desserts, we weren't disappointed either. It was delicious and definitely lived up to our expectations. Let's get to the service: We were always looked after and asked whether everything was OK or whether we needed anything else. The service staff were friendly, courteous and always had a smile on their faces or a funny saying. What conclusion do we draw from this visit? We all agreed that this wouldn't be the last time we ate with you. We will definitely come back with a larger group of people and are already looking forward to the next time.

My husband and I were with you today with our two children, but unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the delicious food. My son choked after just the second bite. He jumped up and left the table because he felt a piece of meat stuck in his throat. Suddenly he couldn't even swallow his own spit - a moment full of worry and uncertainty. We had to pack part of the meal, but a large part was left behind. We would have loved to enjoy it so much, but the situation didn't allow it. The stuck piece of flesh was removed at the hospital today. Luckily nothing worse happened! He has to stay there one night and will be checked again tomorrow. It's a real shame - the food was fantastic but my son couldn't enjoy it. An unexpected evening that we hadn't planned.

Unfortunately, over the last few months we have noticed that the portion sizes have become steadily smaller. We can prove this exactly because we always order the same platter (what the beef platter) for 2 and each time there was less on the platter, unfortunately. Nevertheless, the service and the quality of the food are top.

Three of us were here today and it was absolutely a dream. The food was great but the service was simply excellent and you received a very warm and friendly welcome. We had the Godfather Platter here and the three of us were completely fed up. So I will and recommend everyone to pay a visit here. As in one, an absolute heartfelt recommendation.

Overall ok, but nothing more. Service is nice and it's okay to sit in the winter garden. The waitresses are nice and happy to help. Unfortunately, the food didn't impress us as much as we had hoped. We had the Holy Trinity platter for €47. Mac and cheese and coleslaw are delicious. The cornbread wasn't our cup of tea. The main actor is the meat. Ribs were tasty and tender, but some had a lot of sticky fat. The pulled pork wasn't really pulled apart and was quite dry. The brisket was extremely thin, cold and rather dry. That's where we were most disappointed.

As expected, it was very, tasty. The prices are quite high, but that's not a given. A meal like this takes a long time to prepare and energy. The platter was for 4 people plus we added ribs and that was just enough. Definitely recommended for meat lovers!

Definitely awesome, so for me there could have been a little more meat if the 1st plate had had it. But I'm also a bit stocky at 100 kg. But otherwise everything was great, I drove almost 400 km there and had a nice weekend with my wife.

Ambience = lovingly furnished, but far too narrow in the interior. Terrace was usable, protected from the wind and equipped with radiant heaters. Ate at Raph's for the first time on Saturday. I was really looking forward to it and wasn't disappointed. I ate the Motherload plate and I have to say, I've never eaten anything like it. I love BBQ and often do some with friends, but what you get at Raph is awesome. The pulled pork and beef blew me away so much... juicy, tender, incredibly aromatic. Also the side dishes and the sauces... I'm getting hungry again. Everything about the food was perfect. The service was quick and very friendly. I will definitely come again.

I visited Raph's diner with my brother and niece last week on February 1st, 2025. I was super surprised by the service and also the food. The waiter was always courteous and also one of the laid-back kind with whom you could have fun. The three of us had the Texas Heaven Platter for 4 people. The pulled beef and brisket were simply delicious and I already know that I will miss it. Pulled pork and pork belly are also super tasty. The St. Louis ribs were super juicy and tender, they fell off the bone like nothing else like these Kaufland or Aldi ribs, there's simply no comparison. The 3 different bratwursts each tasted really different. I assume that the chili cheese beef sausage contains sections of brisket or pulled beef. The cornbread, which I didn't know before, was sweet and savory and also juicy, the drumsticks and the chicken wings were really well seasoned and the meat fell off the bone here too. The mac 'n cheese is also really really creamy. The sauces also went well with every meat. I could definitely write a whole novel about how awesome it was, but unfortunately I have to rate two things neutrally. One was the cucumber salad, but that's just a regional thing. I like it when there's a lot of dill in it and with sour cream, but as I said, this will be a regional thing. And unfortunately I have to rate the toilets neutrally because they could be a little better maintained, the paper bucket in the men's toilet was overflowing and there was some paper on the floor, but in the company that has them in the store you have to be able to turn a blind eye.

If you're in the mood for American cuisine, Raph's BBQ is the right place for you. We spontaneously found places in the adjoining winter garden, which was heated up by the radiant heaters. We were able to fully enjoy the food and really enjoyed it. The “Spezial Raph's Burger” isn't exactly cheap, but it tastes really good. The double patty and the size of the burger make it really clear 👍🏻 I can recommend it with a clear conscience 🙏🏻

The first time there was simply more meat or selection on the plate. The second time, today, we ordered the same plate for €180, but this time 1/4 of the plate was full of fries (they were also delicious) - it's just a little cheeky to pay such a steep price and then have one like that Overflowing pile of potatoes are added, according to the motto, at least the guests will be full. I don't want to question the quality here because everything here is really 1A, but the price/performance ratio has to be right too. It's a shame, but we'll still come back because the meat is simply to die for.

The restaurant is a hidden gem in the true sense of the word. I was there twice within a short space of each other. The first time I had the "Holy Trinity" alone and the second time with two people the "Godfather" record. Not cheap, but you are treated to the finest meat! I think both records are great and can recommend them all without hesitation. I particularly like the ribs with their own BBQ sauce and the brisket. The sausages taste great too! The restaurant is clearly a place for meat lovers! It's not cheap, but it's worth it! Large groups in particular can enjoy a wide selection of meat and good side dishes. The only disadvantage is the location of the restaurant and the connection to the sports hall. But anyone who takes the winding path will be well rewarded.

Celebrated my 30th birthday there with friends and family (15 people). I ordered two Texas heaven platters and all I can say is: the food is simply great. Everyone was thrilled and the price-performance ratio was just right. Plus the great atmosphere and of course the really nice and professional staff. Just the right sensitivity between asking if anyone would like something to drink and letting people eat in peace. I will definitely come back and recommend it without reservation!

What can I say? The diner is definitely worth the hype! I have never eaten such good, authentic American BBQ in Germany. Even in the USA, at the most famous BBQ joints like Big Johns in Page, for example, I haven't had better BBQ. A lot of work is being done here. From the super crispy fries to the outstanding MacNCheese or the super juicy cornbread and the balanced pickles, beans and coleslaw and of course the star of the evening: the meat. Pulled beef and pulled pork are a weight: incredibly tender, juicy and very seasoned. No pieces of fat to disturb the mouthfeel. The ribs are huge and have just the right bite. Porkbelly is super tender and sticky. The wings and drumsticks are also super tender and sweet and spicy. The star is the great brisket. Crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy on the inside and so tasty! Everything about the Texas Heaven record was perfect. We couldn't manage the plate for four - a huge portion. The servixe is super nice! Only the winter garden was a little too cold given the current temperatures, but that wasn't a big problem and there are blankets. We'll definitely be back! An absolute top BBQ in Germany!

The food was a highlight that every barbecue lover must experience! The service was very attentive, but in no way intrusive: we felt very comfortable! The portion sizes are more than decent even for “good eaters”. My expectations were clearly exceeded and I'm happy to take the long journey to try out the other dishes here again. The food is mediocre, it looks very good and attractive but the quality is not that good. The service is very friendly but became intrusive at some point. Unfortunately there will not be a second meal but you are very welcome to try it out

We drove there for two hours only to get a plate with far too much fat on the meat and all the other dishes were pretty mediocre. 200€ is a bit too much for that. There's also a waitress who asks every five minutes if we want something more to drink, even though it's clear that all the glasses are still full. No ability to criticize at all, at the end I explained to the waitress that my chicken had feathers on it and she just said that they could have told that earlier. I actually find it a bit outrageous, as it shouldn't have gotten this far.

Were there as a family of four with hungry children. The portion size was good, the food was very tasty and the side dishes were also appropriate and well sized. The cornbread was rather dry, but that probably has to be the case. The price is on the higher side, but this is justified given the effort involved in smoking. The ambience was rather mediocre because it was very narrow and therefore loud (we sat inside). 1-2 tables less would definitely be good for the atmosphere.

We had reserved a table for two people in the winter garden online at short notice the day before. The beef platter for two people was just enough for us (2 men with normal hunger). The portion and price were absolutely fair and really tasty. The quality is simply great! We didn't make a reservation but got a table straight away. The service is really nice, attentive and courteous. He had “What the beef” and was unfortunately a little disappointed. The pulled beef was unfortunately cold and completely juiceless, the brisket unfortunately only had the full fat part and was pretty tasteless. The chili-cheese beef sausage and all the side dishes were very good. The burnt ends tasted great, but some were really hard. We'll be back again and hopefully we'll be proven wrong, but this time unfortunately only 3 stars are enough.

Have been there twice now and both times the food + service was first class. Unfortunately, last time we had to wait 35 minutes in the cold because our table was still occupied. There was a round on the house and, as always, great food. Unfortunately Raph wasn't there ^^

We sat outside in the winter garden, which was heated but was still a bit permeable to wind. The food was delivered super quickly and was also super tasty!! I had the holy trinity for about 50 euros. The plate is absolutely loaded with more than enough for one person. The super nice waiters were also really friendly and helpful when deciding on a dish. Dogs are also allowed and water was also provided to us. Great overall experience!

I ate there for the first time yesterday with a friend and it was definitely worth it. Sure, it's not cheap in terms of price, but quality (and quantity!) has its price. Plus, I wouldn't go there every month, but three or four times a year, because it's more of an experience than just going out to eat. We got the beef platter for two people and were more than full afterwards, although everything was an 8 to 10 in terms of taste except maybe the cornbreads, but it's quite difficult to create a WOW effect. Service was also super nice and accommodating. At this point I apologize to the waitress because I had a brief blackout with the card reader and forgot the tip. Luckily my friend noticed it and gave it to her.

The best goose in Cologne and the surrounding area! A must for us every year. But also hamburgers & Co. Made from the best quality meat, with ingenious sauces and side dishes, they are always pure enjoyment! You can tell that only good products are used to cook here. Be sure to reserve in advance! And just enjoy it piece by piece!

We ate at Raph's BBQ because we had heard good things and were looking forward to a great BBQ experience. Unfortunately the food did not meet our expectations. Many dishes were very dry, which is really disappointing, especially with BBQ dishes. The taste was okay, but not outstanding. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was friendly, but ultimately a visit depends on the quality of the food. It's a shame, we had hoped for more.

Absolutely deserves a full review. The small restaurant has an American BBQ atmosphere, the service is very friendly and the food was simply GREAT, really tasty!

Filled with meat, just as you would expect at a BBQ. Of course it's a matter of taste but I was missing salt in places and spices in general. Still very tasty, we will definitely come again!
