Port Louis in Bad Harzburg

The restaurant smelled so strongly of frying oil that I personally found it very unpleasant; we even moved outside. The restrooms weren't very clean. The food was okay, but nothing special. The waitress seemed overwhelmed and annoyed very quickly.

Very fresh, delicious food! Friendly service! You could sit inside or outside. Everything was cozy and welcoming. I highly recommend it.

I wasn't even acknowledged as a guest, and I wasn't the only one. Someone even walked right past me, not a glance, not a quick word like "I'll be right with you" or to the other table. Three young women were sitting there, having been there before me. After half an hour, I left, and shortly after me, the three women also left. I've never experienced such ignorance toward a guest! Even if you're understaffed, which I would have been understanding about, you can at least offer the guest a quick word or a friendly gesture to let them know you've been noticed. Never again!

After a 25 km hike, we were looking forward to our meal. Interestingly, the kitchen is built right behind the counter, allowing the chefs to offer a kind of culinary experience. The restaurant is located on the French Square and aims to have a French feel, but doesn't quite succeed; apart from baguettes, there's little French food here. Nevertheless, the ambiance, especially outside, is quite pleasant. As for the food: Since I don't eat much meat, I was looking forward to another rump steak. Unfortunately, it was a bit tough in places, but only a few pieces. Unfortunately, it was also almost cooked through and not medium-rare, because the waiter left it on the counter for at least five minutes, preferring to take orders or clear tables, passing by several times. I ended up getting it myself after being assigned a table and receiving confirmation from the chef. The salad was fresh and had a sophisticated sauce. My wife's dish, the vegetable gratin, was also quite good. Unfortunately, the service wasn't up to scratch, and I felt it lacked a certain charm or joy in what was being done.

We have been here a few times. Great location in centre of town. Service a bit slow but that us only because there was only 1 waitress working who was running around constantly.

First time there (2 days ago) everything was great! Food and drinks were excellent, service too. Thought about eating there again today. We sat there for a long time without a menu. No one noticed us, there was only one waitress (Saturday evening??). We left after about 30 minutes. Sad.

Good food, pleasant ambiance – but service suffers from understaffing Port Louis scores with solid cuisine and a cozy atmosphere. The dishes are well prepared, flavorful, and the portions are fair. The dining room is inviting, and the outdoor seating is pleasant – overall, a place where you'll enjoy sitting down and eating in peace. What significantly dampens the experience, however, is the noticeably understaffed service. A single server tries to greet guests, take orders, bring drinks, clear the table, and collect the bill – this can't be done alone. The result: long waits (first for ordering, later for follow-up orders), empty glasses are left standing, interim information ("It'll take another 5 minutes") is missing, the cashier takes a long time. Important: The service itself seems friendly and attentive – it's not a lack of will, but rather a lack of resources/organization. Conclusion: Good food, pleasant atmosphere – but the experience depends on the flow at the table. With more staff at peak times (or clear table allocation), this could easily be 4-5 stars. So, for me, it remains 3 out of 5 – with hope for improvement, because the potential is there.

A schnitzel with chanterelle mushrooms (with bacon and onions) plus a large potato and a side salad. A side salad without dressing. A schnitzel/potato without sauce. Everything was just dry. Another schnitzel with cream sauce + onions/mushrooms, topped with cheese as requested, and also a side salad. Salad without dressing. Cheese was charged at €3 (regular sliced ​​cheese slapped on top). Salad didn't taste good at all. Schnitzel was OK. Chanterelles OK. Sauce OK. Potato DRY. Drinks expensive. Waiter rude. Waiting time before even being asked for a drink – far too long.

What a pigsty. No clean restrooms until 12 in the morning. Dirty windows. One star is still too many. Staff would rather clean outside.

Today, September 5, 2025, I was just there for a drink. I don't want to eat; it's burnt on the outside and still raw on the inside. The toilets are dirty and the windows have never been cleaned; nothing's magical. The plant on the table is half dead. Very bad.

Very good ice cream and friendly staff. The price is just about right. The nice thing about the ice cream was that the fruit was fresh and very tasty.

We were here for lunch today. Unfortunately, it wasn't great. The roast pork was too dry and the potato salad was too peppery. The schnitzel wasn't seasoned (no flavor). We personally didn't find the waitress very friendly, even with gum in her mouth. Sorry, unfortunately, that's how it was. Now it's like, "Come back soon, boy," and I have to say, we won't be back!

I had a schnitzel with fresh chanterelles, which was very well presented. Unfortunately, the waiter was very tense, as he had to serve the place all by himself. He managed, but as a guest, you don't really feel welcome.

The food was barely seasoned; the baked potato was on a bed of hot pepper, the vegetarian gratin had no sauce, the turkey steak with fries came without sauce, and the meat was far too dry. Plus, there was no regular Coke. Disastrous, overpriced, and not recommended.

Great food, everything was delicious! We had the schnitzel with cream sauce and a salad. The open kitchen is funny. What's strange, though, is that the entire staff (waiters and chef) and another, completely uncommunicative, were in total silence. Very strange, considering the open kitchen would have been fun to interact with the guests.

Das Essen können wir nicht bewerten aber die Bedienung ist schrecklich. Die Kellnerin gab uns die Menükarte und wir warteten und warteten und warteten. Sie hat uns komplett ignoriert bis wir dann irgendwann mit keinen Nerven mehr aufgestanden und gegangen sind. Das Essen kann vielleicht gut sein aber diese Bedienung ist inakzeptabel. Es waren nur zwei andere Tische besetzt in diesem Restaurant.

It's wonderful when you complain about something, that the cook goes out for a smoke even though you're sitting in the room and your partner is already eating....cheeky but well, I'm hungry. You wait patiently, maybe the food will come soon...last time I was here!!!!!!

Today we were in Port Louis again. We wanted to eat and drink there as usual, but this time we had our small (6kg) Yorkshire Terrier with us. We had a new dog blanket with us, which we carefully laid out in one of the beach chairs and placed our housetrained, clean dog on it. Since he is very well behaved, he lay quietly on the blanket. Then a service worker came and immediately asked if he was lying on the hotel's own blanket. We said no and pointed out that our dog was house trained. She said that the dog wasn't allowed to sit there because the management didn't want it. It's a shame that we will no longer visit this restaurant, which we enjoyed and frequented. Thank God there is still San Marco, where the dog was allowed to sit on a chair on his blanket and we were able to eat food and drink in peace.

If you like a nice, simple atmosphere, this is perfect! Not a usual restaurant where the menu is overflowing with over 30 dishes but rather a few but prepared with good quality. The service was nice and courteous. We arrived here unexpectedly and went home with a smile.

We spontaneously met up with friends here. It was a lovely evening, thanks also to the nice service. Food and cocktails were great. We will be happy to come back.

We moved to Harzburg a little over a year ago and go to Port Louis regularly or very often. The cocktails are professionally prepared, the wine list is extensive and the food is consistently delicious. The rump steak and the schnitzel are always crispy and without any crunch. The soups are all delicious and special mention should be made of the seasonal mushroom soups such as chanterelle cream soup and porcini mushroom cream soup. The service is always very friendly and fast, the boss and junior boss are always in a good mood and willing to have a personal conversation if time allows. Also worth mentioning is the slightly French-Mediterranean ambience with a not-too-loud selection of retro music that adds to the feel-good factor. Overall, a restaurant/bistro where you can enjoy a cocktail or treat yourself to a 3rd course meal. If it fits, at least 1 visit per week is not too much.

Went here to have a coffee, the cake offer was ok, unfortunately we weren't even offered the great cream puffs that our table neighbors ordered after us.

Team: Unfriendly & annoyed. The tables of former guests inside were not cleared. You were allowed to sit down at a place, where there were still dirty dishes on the table. Unfortunately all the tables looked like this. Feel-good level: zero We were there for the first & last time.

One star is still too many Very disappointing experience at Café Port Louis Unfortunately, my visit to Café Port Louis in Bad Harzburg was a big disappointment. The service was extremely slow and inattentive. It took ages to even receive the menu and the staff seemed to have little interest in helping us. Questions were hardly answered and we had to ask several times to even get service. The quality of the food was also disappointing. The dishes arrived at the table cold and unsightly, and the value for money was absolutely not justified. We felt that the staff was overwhelmed and poorly organized. Overall, unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant. If you value good service and tasty food, you should look for an alternative.

The exterior of the restaurant promised more, the interior was rather disappointing, a bit impersonal and had no atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick, the food was tasty and well prepared.

It started with the order. On the one children's menu, our son didn't want fries with his turkey steak, and we ordered a baked potato and a salad, which the waitress reluctantly acknowledged in her notepad. What came next didn't deserve the name "salad", a few lettuce leaves served in a mini heap; the baked potato is a mini version of a potato. The mini-small piece of meat (not only in this steak, but also in the pork schnitzel that I ordered (price around € 18!!!)) was so tough that it was almost impossible to cut. The baked potato (price around €13.50) with sour cream that my wife ordered also had no taste. In summary, we have to say - the quality here did not match the price level! Note - stay away from Krombacher's Fassbrause/Rhubarb - sugar water at its best (only if you like it)!

Rarely have I seen such friendly service. She cares about people and animals. The MaiTai tastes good, but there is far too much ice and therefore not enough of the drink, for almost €10. I wouldn't take it anymore. The Aperol Spritz is very good.

We like to come to Port Lois often. You are always treated courteously, the service is fast and the food and drinks are delicious. Plus the right background music...recommended at any time for a small snack or when you're really hungry.

This rose park was new to us. It's been a number of years since we were here. Very beautiful.

Very tasty food: schnitzel, chanterelles and fries. The waitress was very friendly and loved children - the fact that we were a little louder with our 3 children didn't bother us, at least we didn't get the impression! 😉

Very good restaurant. The service was very good, even though the lady was sometimes alone, very quick and friendly. The food and drinks tasted very good. Clear recommendation. If the weather is nice, we recommend making a reservation for outside, as the kitchen is directly in the restaurant (front cooking) and the smell is correspondingly high. Lovely again!

We were able to enjoy super delicious food there in the evening. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was very cozy. You can watch while cooking! After eating, the children got another 🍭. 2 days later we were there again in the afternoon for coffee and cake. The cake was delicious and fresh. That day we were able to sit outside on the terrace and it was very comfortable. Our dog was also very welcome and was given a bowl of water without us asking.

We were here a while ago, the waitress told us that warm food is only available from 6 p.m. and that she doesn't accept orders before then. It was just before. At 6 p.m. some guests got their food straight away, but she came to us much later to take the order, probably because we had our daughter (7) with us. We were treated strangely by the waitress when we came in and ordered our drinks.

Also ich kann dieses Restaurant nicht weiter empfehlen, die Kellner waren sehr unfreundlich und das Essen muss ich leider auch sagen war sehr kalt und überhaupt nicht Gewürz.Ich habe mir das Wiener Schnitzel bestellt und ich muss leider sagen es war überhaupt nicht durch und es wurde leider leicht verbrannt serviert, und das Besteck wurde überhaupt nicht sauber gemacht sondern war sehr verdreckt. Leider muss ich sagen es war ein einmaliges Erlebnis und ich komme nicht wieder in so ein Saftladen.

Four of us had dinner there this evening. It was very disappointing. Asparagus was hard...far from al dente. There were roots and yellow lettuce leaves in the salad. The service staff was asked to pass this on to the kitchen. There was no feedback on this. Reordering drinks was forgotten. Conclusion: Not recommended.

You can go and eat, but there are better alternatives.

A highly recommended cafe. We ate asparagus with salmon there. This was very good and a really good portion. Since there seemed to be few employees there, it took a little longer. But the wait was worth it. I can only recommend.

Fantastically located terrace in the best city center location at the Rosengarten, good parking in the immediate vicinity, the most beautiful place in Harzburg to end a sunny spring day. Turkey salad is the tastiest I've ever eaten. Strawberry punch, great wines and cocktails. You should bring your time as it is not a fast food restaurant.

Went there for coffee yesterday ☕️. I had the cream puff with pear. I have to say huge pastries. A bit of pear - an ice cream scoop - and lots of spray cream - not even real. The whole thing for over €8. We'll never again, that's cheeky

An enchanting place to feel good! We were lucky enough to be able to sit at one of the tables on the terrace. The very attentive and extremely nice service staff welcomed us in a friendly manner. After an aperitif and the first beer, we decided on asparagus dishes. After a short wait, the lavish plates arrived. We were thrilled with the taste and presentation. On recommendation, we had the strawberry dessert and ended a thoroughly pleasant stay. We recommend!

Like every year on vacation, a visit is part of it. Great staff and good food.

A very nice and cozy family-run restaurant pub.. Very nicely decorated... Friendly and competent staff. And Viktor has one or two insider tips!! Both for activities and for schnapps! The nun's tip is world class! You have to try!!! And the cream puffs are as huge as a head of lettuce!!! I'd love to come back!! Keep it up!!!

Small but nice bistro with a French atmosphere. We actually just wanted to drink something and took a seat at the bar. There we can watch the cook at work in the open kitchen. Rarely have I seen someone cook with so much love and passion. That whetted my appetite. The onion soup we ordered was excellent. Thank you for the time travel to France. We felt like we were on vacation.

Food was really good and a decent portion for the price. However, we weren't greeted when we arrived, and we weren't even asked if everything was good while we were eating - as you know from good restaurants.

If you want to eat out as a vegetarian, you often don't have a lot of choice. Import Luis, it's just great and the people are great anyway.

I have enjoyed visiting this restaurant for years, but unfortunately today was the last time. I ordered a schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, unfortunately there was practically no sauce and the schnitzel and the fries were completely dry. When I kindly asked if I could get more sauce, I was told that this would cost an additional €2.50. I reacted irritably and pointed out that there was practically no sauce on the plate. In fact, even after a long discussion in a cheeky tone, I was not given any sauce, which leaves me quite speechless. I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant and I find such behavior quite petty. What a shame!

Haben am 26.12. einen Tisch für 7 Personen zum Mittagessen bestellt,4 Erwachsene +3 Kinder. Vorort wurde uns mitgeteilt das es einen Fehler gab und kein Tisch mehr frei ist. Tolles Geburtstags und Weihnachtserlebnis. Mit 3 Kindern an Weihnachten nichts zu Essen. Danke.

Momentan ist wieder der gemütliche Wintermarkt

Waren an einen relativ leeren Freitag abends dort. Wir saßen drinnen und habe gleich gesehen, das es eine offene Küche ist. Dachte mir ok ist ja heut oft so. Das Essen wurde relativ schnell serviert. Es war sogar gut, die pommes cross und gut gewürzt. Schaffen heute die seltensten Restaurants. Die ersten 3 Bilder sind das Essens. Der Preis ist Ok dafür, das alles so teuer ist. Nun aber was mir nicht gefallen hat.. Die offene Küche, man musste fast brüllen um sich zu unterhalten. Ständig ist dem Personal etwas runtergefallen. in 2 std bestimmt 11-12 mal Geschirr. Das personal wirkte überfordert mit den wenig belegten tischen gerade mal 1/3 Auslastung an einem Freitag abend. Und was für mich nicht geht ist der staub. Wenn man Tief hängende Lampen hat, dann bitte reinigt diese auch! Es kann nicht sein, das dort sich ca. ein halber cm dicke Staubschicht befindet. Würde diese nicht auf Kopfhöhe hängen, wäre es nicht aufgefallen aber so...sry das geht für mich persönlich gar nicht. Siehe letztes bild. Die 3 sterne sind aufgerundet.

Super netter Service, super Essen

Hat ein wenig gedauert, bis alles los ging, aber dann ging alles gut und das Essen hat auch geschmeckt. Auch wenn es etwas mehr hätte sein können. Sonst top.

Dort kann man sehr schön draußen sitzen, mitten in der Bummelallee mit netter Bedienung. Leider gab es nur fast eingefrorenen Käsekuchen (Fertigprodukt). Daher einen Punkt Abzug .

Super einladend, direkt auf der Flaniermeile mit ansprechender Atmosphäre und leckeren Gerichten. Die offene Küche ist der Vertrauensbeweis schlechthin👍
