Hexenklause in Bad Harzburg

We came here spontaneously this evening. Were warmly welcomed and served. We had as a starter The Ajoli with baguette was super delicious. The garlic taste was perfect. Then there was schnitzel as the main course. Once baked with jalapenos and cheese. Very tasty, but a little tip: just say that the schnitzel has a really good heat.🥵🥵 Then the one with tomato mozzarella and mushrooms. All of them were super tasty and filling. So full that we were able to have the leftovers packed up without any problem.

If you want to eat good and handmade food, this is the right place 👍 Best schnitzel I have ever eaten, combined with great salad and delicious fried potatoes. Definitely deserves better reviews than some complainers have written here. Big praise for the kitchen!!!!

The food was very good, the staff was super friendly.

We were there today. Service was friendly. The rest didn't work at all. My husband and I ordered wild goulash. He with dumplings and I with spaetzle. This was definitely not wild goulash. The sheer horror. No spice at all. The spaetzle is only cooked in pure water without salt. The sauce is the naked fat of oil or butter. The red cabbage was definitely out of the jar. So much for freshly prepared with fresh ingredients. Doesn't work at all. We pointed out that the cook should work better with spices and so on. We don't know what happened because we're not from here. Just vacation. We've eaten wild goulash before, so we know what it's called and what it tastes like. Furthermore, there is actually no parking space on site. This is on the other side and is chargeable before 6 p.m. We definitely don't recommend it.

The food was ok, but what bothered us was that we didn't get our bruschetta plate, so the visit wasn't quite perfect

After we placed the order, the bruschetta we ordered was missing when it was served. However, this appeared again in the invoice. In addition, a beer was listed there that no one had drunk. However, upon request, the money was fully refunded. What struck us is that card payment is not possible in the restaurant and no receipt/invoice was presented when paying in cash. As already stated above, the receipt had to be requested after payment in order to be able to view it. The invoice receipt was only created after we requested it.

Sehr gutes Essen, klassisch, lecker, sehr zu empfehlen. Das Brot zur Suppe fanden auch die Kinder sooooo lecker uns wollten immer mehr.

I would leave it alone...After my first stay a few weeks ago, I was plagued by fatal stomach problems. I was spared these on my second stay. But only because we weren't served after 25 minutes and left. Service unfortunately very very bad

I cannot give a positive review. I already ordered a table for 9/13/24 for 8 people in August. Unfortunately we stood in front of a closed door. There was a note hanging there saying that it would be closed until September 17th.

Always stick to the truth. After we (3 adults) on September 6th. We were complimented there with the statement that there was a large group inside and that we would have to wait at least 1 hour and we hadn't made a reservation. (6 tables outside were not occupied) So we reserved a table for ourselves on September 7th for the evening (6 p.m.). We were told that a large group was coming at the same time. so we arrived at 5:30 p.m. Surprise: We were able to choose a table; everyone outside was free. We ordered, among other things, schnitzel gratinated with tomato/mozzarella and fries. According to the menu, only fresh ingredients are used here. It should be noted that there was an experienced chef among us. The fries were frozen and were fried in fat that apparently wasn't at the right temperature. The breaded schnitzel was cooked in the deep fryer, which could be measured by the fat content. The ketchup and mayonnaise were Industrial goods and by no means fresh. The game ragout with spaetzle and cranberries ordered by the chef was a real hit. Spaetzle from the bag, cranberries from the jar, Ragout without enough sauce. Red cabbage from the jar. Conclusion: By no means fresh product. Prices very ambitious. The service was careful to get things done quickly. You don't deserve tips there. The announced large group ensures that late arriving guests are sent away or put off with a wait of at least 1 hour. Not recommended.

I was 8/28. eat there because this restaurant was recommended to me by the children, but it was in a period of over 18 months when I reported it, there must be different staff there now. My meal consisted of fried potatoes, shoulder steak with herb butter and green beans. I've never eaten fried potatoes like that before, some of them were very dark and hard, the onions in them were completely burnt. When I was asked if everything was OK, I pointed out the onions, the answer was just as impossible as the food, "Yes, it can be "Sometime it happens," I wouldn't even offer a word of apology to anyone at home. Just no words for it

Nice service, great ambience, price-performance ratio completely appropriate, you can hear how the schnitzels are being made. Like almost everywhere in Bad Harzburg, Mango has short opening times

No card payment possible in 2024. It doesn't work at all. No seat cushions outside late at night. Staff sitting outside smoking, very unpleasant.

Coffee in an unwashed cup is disgusting

Were there during the week. Had 2x rump steak, made from Angus beef according to the menu. Have never eaten such a bad rump steak. It was fatty and had neither the taste nor the appearance of Angus beef. The draft beer didn't taste fresh either. Unfortunately we cannot recommend it any further.

First of all: food was okay and sufficient. However, everything else was an absolute disaster. As soon as you entered the restaurant, you were greeted arrogantly by the innkeeper and made to feel like you were being disturbed with inappropriate remarks. After we sat down outside, we were ignored for about 45 minutes until we finally got a card. After ordering the drinks, they actually arrived 15 minutes later. After another 45 minutes the waitress came to tell us that the food we had chosen was no longer in stock. In a short time it was a draw and a whopping 25 minutes later we had food at the table. Apart from a small “the chef apologizes for the long wait” nothing came. We come from a tourist hotspot, but we have never experienced anything like this.

Schnitzels are great, beer is a bit expensive, service is pleasant.

We just wanted a drink, didn't look at the menu and then paid over €15 for two large beers. Not appropriate.

Waited over an hour for the food, wanted to eat wild goulash, there wasn't just schnitzel, the place is somehow kept going, it's a shame I've known the Hexenklause for 30 years but I haven't seen it like that

Very tasty food... Even if it takes a while, it's worth it... Super friendly staff... Very sufficient portions... You can taste that everything is very freshly prepared... Menu is very amusing and " schnitzel-heavy", but everyone will find something suitable...

In my opinion everything was great. Great service, very good quality, freshly prepared food with a good selection of different dishes. I can recommend it to everyone. ☺️

So... we arrived at this restaurant and thought maybe we would get a table straight away even though we hadn't made a reservation. But the waitress just said “everything is full.” But I saw that several tables were immediately free because people had finished eating. So we sat opposite and waited for 10 minutes. And look there. 4 tables free... strange... so we went there again and suddenly it said. You can have this table here. And there we sat now. The table was still dirty but okay. Nobody came and gave us a menu so we looked online to see what we could eat. During this we heard a table complaining about the service with the words “did you have to brew the beer first or why is it taking so long?!..” so we thought okay.. it could take longer then we'll just adjust to it . We're patient... 30 minutes later the waitress came out and you noticed we were completely ignored until then. No card was given, the table looked like rubbish but strangely enough a lady next to us was looked after. Then it suddenly said “nothing is going to work today. No drinks.. no food!” THAT WAS THE STATEMENT! Zero polite nothing. You were simply deported 2 hours before the official closing time without a kind word... nothing. Just a complete waste of time! Thanks for nothing. So the service is completely overwhelmed. The customer is definitely not king here. My heavily pregnant wife and I were allowed to go. I never write reviews. And that means something that I'm writing one now. We have never experienced anything like this! Disappointing

The quantity of food is not bad, but the taste is not good. I needed salt, so I asked the waiter to bring it to me, but there was hardly any salt in the container he brought me. I ordered neck steak, but it was overcooked. Furthermore, the waiter's attitude was bad and I couldn't even use my credit card.

Great shop, the food is delicious, the prices are OK, child-friendly and at the end even a fruit platter on the house! ;) Gladly again.

We have come here several times over the years as part of our vacations. On our last visit we had the Harzer Schnitzel. If you like schnitzel, this is the place for you. We'd love to come back.

A very cute restaurant. Very quaint but still inviting. We felt very comfortable. The waiters were super friendly. The food was excellent.

Long waiting time despite fewer guests. No overview of the individual tables. Empty drinks glasses are not noticed. On schnitzel day, fried potatoes ran out pretty quickly. There was no spaetzle at all. The baked potato was small and had way too much quark. The schnitzel was very fatty and firm. The “tomato-mozzarella” schnitzel had little to do with tomato-mozzarella.

Very nice restaurant in the heart of Bad Harzburg. The ambience is not very pretty as it looks thrown together. But the food is absolutely top. We had venison goulash and pork fillet. Both were well prepared and fresh. The portions are good and the price-performance ratio is right. The service is super friendly and fast.

I was here for dinner with my daughter. We chose the Hexenklause because of the name ;) The service was quite nice, the menu was rather sparse. We chose bruschetta and fried potatoes with a fried egg. Unfortunately, the bruschetta wasn't toasted and was rather bland, but the fried potatoes and fried egg were really tasty and well seasoned. Unfortunately, the children's menu was also reduced to “typical” children's dishes (chips, pasta). Personally, I would generally like things to be different in the catering industry.

Whenever I'm in Bad Harzburg, I have to eat at the Hexenklause at least once. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food is very tasty and the portions are not too small. Absolutely justified in terms of price. Since it can get pretty crowded on weekends and even during the week when the weather is good, it's best to reserve a table in advance.

Absolute disaster. It's probably a new owner... it says on the front of the menu that everything is freshly made. Yes, the schnitzel is fresh in the deep fryer and the fried potatoes are fresh from the microwave. And for these prices... give the store a wide berth!

A nice little restaurant with very good, plentiful food.

Friendly service, nice and quiet lunchtime, all schnitzels also available as a vegetarian option (breaded aubergine) and super tasty. We liked it very much!

We went here for dinner for a birthday. A reservation is urgently required. The Hexenklause restaurant offers a large amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. The location of the restaurant is great. The interior is rustic and decorated on the witch theme. The food was brought quickly and was very well prepared. Unfortunately, every side salad automatically comes with garlic dressing, which is annoying if you can't tolerate garlic. The schnitzel and the fish were good, the "baked with cheese" is actually a small slice of cheese :) but the schnitzel underneath was great. Currently only cash payment is possible here. The toilets are pretty much around in the basement of the restaurant. We were well served by the service, in some places more sales would have been possible as the supply of drinks was a little stalled.

Waiting for food 1.15am We were the second guests, then 5 more guests came and they had their food earlier than us and had already paid. Then our meal for 4 people arrived. Were luke warm. The restaurant is on the street and that's probably why it still exists. Doesn't work at all. Never again

Das war die ekelhafteste Spargelsuppe, die ich je gegessen habe. Schmeckte wie verdünnte Hollandaise. Die Chefin kam noch unfreundlich angerannt und meinte die war von frischem Spargel. Davon war nix zu sehen. Nicht ein Spargelstück zu sehen . Nie wieder

We were there for dinner yesterday with 6 people. We had reserved in advance because otherwise it would be almost impossible to get a table there. Arrived, received a very warm welcome and felt comfortable. Food was recommended and even upon request, I was able to try it beforehand. The asparagus soup was very tasty and the game goulash was very good. Food great service, what more could you want??? But it's true, there are always guests who have something to complain about, but what can these complaining types do better??? Thank you for the nice hours, I felt very comfortable 🙂🙂🙂

Today we were out in Bad Harzburg at lunchtime and since our junior and we were hungry, we stopped at the Hexenklause. We were warmly welcomed. The team is really friendly. The menu is neat and actually has something for everyone. Our junior wanted pasta with tomato sauce as a children's plate, my wife had a schnitzel bruschetta and I had a schnitzel with Harz cheese and cranberries. Our junior enjoyed the pasta. The schnitzels were really good. Juicy, great breading and well baked. The bruschetta was delicious and the idea with the Harz cheese was also great. So the side dishes were a salad and steak house fries or fried potatoes. All in all it was good and we have rarely had such a really good schnitzel. We will be back definitely. P.S. The deduction in the ambience - For me personally, that's too much fuss and I don't really like the cotton wool that's hanging around everywhere.

Today we went to the Hexenklause for lunch again after two years. Unfortunately we discovered that the fried herring had disappeared from the menu, as had other great dishes. Probably due to the new chef (?). The food was ok, but could be improved. The fried potatoes were very dark, the onions were burnt and there was no salt. The schnitzel was great!! The waiting times were ok, but sometimes quite long. The service was super nice and accommodating. Great praise! In conclusion, one can say that the team, including the chef, still have to get used to it and then the small complaints about the food and the waiting time can definitely be corrected. We would try again in a few months.

We went to the Hexenklause with the family for our 60th birthday. The weather was fantastic. The seats inside are reserved. There was a very nice aperitif and a bouquet of flowers was arranged at our table upon request. Worked great! The menu is about as expected, good bourgeois. Unfortunately, the birthday child wanted wild goulash from the current menu. Was off. OK. Then just lamb chops. Also from. Okay, annoying. The food was average. Salt and pepper were not on the table and when asked it still took forever. Anyone who wants to spontaneously go out for a “normal” meal with several people will be well served here.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the food that much. A cheese dip was served with my jalapeño schnitzel, which unfortunately tasted very industrial. The drinks were brought incorrectly and in dirty glasses. The service made a rather annoyed impression, which didn't exactly have a positive effect on the guests.

The Hexenklause has been a good address in Bad Harzburg for years. There was probably a change of operator in the summer of 2022. Most importantly, it is still a good place for delicious and freshly prepared food. We ate there two evenings in a row. The staff was super friendly and on the ball. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. The restaurant is very cozy and beautifully decorated. If we are in Bad Harzburg again, we will definitely come back. Update May 2024. Stop for dinner. Still delicious cuisine and recommended.

After 20km of hiking we decided to eat here without reading any reviews or anything like that because it looked really cozy. The service was very, very friendly and also offered some dishes that were not on the menu due to the season. Our dishes came beautifully prepared in a perfectly reasonable time, I don't understand some of the reviews here, and the schnitzels were a dream! Super tender meat and definitely not ready-made frozen pieces! We'd love to come back next time you visit!

The restaurant looked more inviting from the outside than from the inside. Considering that almost only schnitzel variations are offered, the quality of the meat was unfortunately very poor. The fried potatoes were still partially burnt, as was all of the ham. Very disappointing value for money.

WITCHES - Or rather pain like lumbago? Ambience: When we walked into the restaurant we were greeted warmly and surprised by poinsettias and Christmas baubles hanging on the windows. Mid-April, of course. Maybe these should just cover the dirty windows. What is otherwise described here in the reviews as “quaint”, we would rather describe as “from 1970 onwards no more thought was given to the ambience”. True to the motto “awesome, it’s fine for just a few visitors”. Service: Where is the best place to start? Long story short: we had to wait over ONE HOUR for our food. Meanwhile, the food at other tables was swapped, etc. Who knows whether our food wasn't there too. When we asked after about 40 minutes when we could expect the food, we were only answered more or less curtly that we should be patient because it was very full (moderately busy) and everything was freshly prepared (you should the prices can be assumed anyway). After what felt like a complete read through of the Sport1 News app and watching 2 Netflix series, we received our food with an apology for the delay. Huh? I thought the waiting time was normal in the restaurant, as previously rudely described. To eat: After waiting and being really hungry, you could eat it. But basically it's 0815. Two ready-made neck strips are thrown into the pan, ready-made gravy, 1 1/2 boiled potatoes (without salt...) and a few beans with bacon and onions served in a salad bowl and the actual salad (if you can call it that) on top the main dish. Conclusion: Thanks for nothing.

Essen und Service waren in Ordnung Keine Kartenzahlung möglich, das passt wohl absolut nicht mehr in die Zeit . Und als Begründung, das System würde oft abstürzen, ist doch wohl lächerlich Wie machen andere es nur?

We didn't know about the change of ownership, but we weren't disappointed. Ordered the Harzer Schnitzel twice, had perfect fried schnitzel gratinated with Harzer cheese, got crispy fries and a delicious salad. Portions were plentiful and tasted very good. We will be back

We were very surprised by the small, lovingly furnished restaurant. The new menu impresses with the dishes🤩.The schnitzel was super tasty, huge, the meat was juicy and the breading was crispy!The game goulash was unique! There are now ALL schnitzels available every Thursday for just €17.90!!! The service staff tries to fulfill every wish. The sanitary facility is a bit old, but it is clean. Even 🐕 are ❤️welcome. We would love to come back!!! (you can get a small impression from the photos)

Very special restaurant: super friendly, charming with humor. You feel welcome and valued as a guest. Very child friendly. Food was tasty. My husband gives it 5 stars and I give it 4.8. The game goulash wasn't hot enough for me. But that would be complaining at a high level. :-) Our son received an extra portion of dessert. That was so nice.

Getting a table in Bad Harzburg on Easter Saturday is not that easy. Luckily, the four of us got a seat at the large table in the front dining room, which wasn't quite as ideal, but I don't want to complain about that. The service was really very friendly and so was the boss who brought the drinks. I don't think the play area in the passage was chosen so well, especially since some guests with... big dogs passed by. Food was basically ok. , unfortunately my fried potatoes were cold. But otherwise everything is good.

What is often described as “quaint” turns out to be a somewhat outdated restaurant with quite original decoration! The service can be described as super friendly, humorous and a bit chaotic (two out of four meals had the wrong side dish, neither salt nor pepper on the tables, but this was fixed immediately) and therefore has its own charm that invites you to come again Now to the real reason we're here - the food!!! In short: All four different dishes (liver cheese with fried egg, Harz schnitzel, schnitzel with champion sauce, bratwurst) were very, very good! Hearty, strong, real food! No "pedagogical" snacks, just something for the hips! The prices of the individual dishes are well calculated and in reasonable proportion to what is on offer! At the end there was a small dessert on the house! Yummy!!

We were there spontaneously today, it was very full and well attended, we recommend making a reservation by phone in advance. The food tasted excellent, was fresh and the portions were large enough to fill you up. Parking situation not that easy, but what do you want to do, that's just the way it is in health resorts. Easy to reach on foot...can't say anything negative and recommend this business...! Important...! Unfortunately, the opening times on Google are not correct, so it's best to find out in advance.

Oh well, you don't have to go there...the food was ok but nothing special. Unfortunately, the dishes on the online menu do not match those in the restaurant. Prices are also significantly increased on the menu on site.

Were on a short vacation at the Hotel Seela in Bad Harzburg. The Hexenklause can be reached on foot in 15 minutes. The waitress welcomed us nicely with a funny saying. The atmosphere is rustic / dignified. Very cozy. Despite the busy restaurant, the food was served quickly and was very tasty. I ordered the schnitzel with Harzer. I've never seen anything like that before and probably won't again. Decent size and super tender and juicy. The fried potatoes were also great. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Absolutely recommended and happy to come again. Many greetings to the team and thank you for the lovely evening

The food was a poem that cannot be described in words. Simply top class. The service and wait staff were very attentive, eager, nimble, selfless and joyful. The ambience is great, matching the name In terms of price, you can't complain, the ratio to performance is great for such excellent food This restaurant is my favorite, a must for good food. Wir hatten das Paprika und das Harzer Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln und waren beide begeistert, sehr lecker! Dazu gab es noch einen Beilagensalat, die Portionsgröße war super, wir waren pappsatt! Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, wir mussten auch gar nicht lange auf unser Essen warten. Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert!

Es war einfach nur toll. Angefangen von der wirklich sehr netten Bedienung, über das Ambiente, extrem kinderfreundlich und zudem noch sehr lecker. Wir kommen sehr gerne mal wieder. Danke für das leckere Abendessen

Ein sehr gemütliches und mal anders als normal eingerichtetes kleines Restaurant (macht seinem Namen alle Ehre). Die Bedienung war super freundlich und echt nett. Wir waren mit unseren kindern dort auch der Umgang mit den zwei Mäusen ein Fach super. Zur Überbrückung der warte zeit haben wir ein Spiel für uns und den Kids bekommen klasse idee. Auch das Essen war einfach nur klasse ich selbst hatte das Rumpsteak und es war meines Erachtens perfekt gebraten. Es werden auch fast alle Gerichte als kindergericht angeboten was ich super finde da die kinder so auch eine größere Auswahl haben. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und werden bestimmt mal wieder dort essen.

Vervolgens net het gevoel of zaten we bij een gezin aan tafel thuis. Iemand begint latje te zagen en te kitten,kind loopt vervolgens door de zaal met die lat. Relaxt uit eten was het niet. Had meer het gevoel ,bij iemand thuis. Was wel gezellig aangekleed,maar verbouwen doe je voor en na opening

Aller guten Dinge sind DREI, morgen werden wir zum dritten Mal in der Hexenklause sein und speisen. Warum? Hier nimmt sich die Chefin Zeit für ihre Gäste, hier hat der Kellner ein offenes Ohr für die Gäste und hier schmeckt das Essen. Wohlschmeckende und auch regionale Kost. Mein Mann und ich waren heute Abend auf gut Glück in der Hexenklause zum Essen, nach kurzer Wartezeit an der Bar wurde uns ein Tisch zugewiesen. Die jungen Männer vom Service waren äußerst engagiert und super freundlich. Preis-Leistung ist absolut treffend, das Essen sowas von frisch und sehr lecker.
