Unfortunately, only one star, as the food is simply pre-packaged. A long wait is announced with the apology that the food is fresh and homemade. We can categorically deny this; perhaps it was simply an excuse for understaffing. Because it really didn't take that long. And it wasn't fresh, hot, or well-seasoned either. The ambiance is more dingy and cluttered than rustic and cozy. The server, most likely the owner, was curt but adequately friendly.

The restaurant is supposed to open at 1 p.m., according to the website, and I wanted to reserve a table for six for a specific date. Incredibly, no one is answering the phone. Well, then, I guess I'll just have to go somewhere else. I simply can't understand it.

We ate at the Hexenklause yesterday and were completely satisfied. We received a friendly welcome and were served immediately. No long wait. The food was delicious and plentiful.

The schnitzels were dry and unseasoned, so they were tasteless. The fries were good but also unseasoned. The salad was okay, but the dressing soaked through the fries. Having everything on one plate was too much. The staff was good and friendly.

I give it 15 stars. Yes, even though it's very simple and down-to-earth. Good service. I have fond memories of the food. It's a family-friendly restaurant! Unfortunately, they don't serve regional beer.

We went to the Hexenklause for dinner. We were greeted by very friendly people and sat down in a rustic, lovingly decorated hermitage, which we really liked. For dinner, we had Harzer schnitzel and a Hexenpfänchen (a little witch's pan), which were excellent and we would recommend them. All in all, it was very tasty, cozy, and friendly.

The food tastes good, but the price/performance ratio is a bit too high for my taste. At these prices, they could offer better restrooms.

The Hexenklause is certainly a suitable place if you want to eat well during your vacation in the Harz Mountains. The staff are friendly, attentive, and concerned with guest satisfaction. The portions are, in my opinion, ample and filling. The owners have truly created a little witch's house with their choice of decorations. Everything feels a bit quaint and has its charm. The prices are what you'd expect in a tourist town. For me, the Hexenklause has now become one of my go-to evening spots during my stays in Bad Harzburg.

There's something for everyone here. Home-style cooking with meat and vegetarian dishes. The food was good and the service friendly.

First of all, we can't understand the bad reviews. We sat outside today, just the two of us plus our 7-month-old baby. Since the small tables were occupied, we got a big one right away! The waitress, Moni, was approachable and very nice and immediately took a good look at our little man, or rather, he took a good look at her 😬 The two of them were immediately hooked. Drinks came immediately; there were several waitresses there, including the manager. We also got chatting with her; super friendly and great communication. We ordered food, and it arrived pretty quickly. So that we, as new parents, could eat together and the little man was tired of sitting, Moni offered to take the little one for a few minutes. The two got along great, had fun, and it was a really sweet gesture. The trout and schnitzel were top notch... Everyone was nice, everyone made a great effort, and the other guests also commented positively. Keep up the good work and keep up such great staff. Thank you 🙏

Excellent service and super friendly! Very child-friendly, and the owner runs the place with passion. Five stars for that. The food and the selection are rather below average. All fresh ingredients, yet very limited options on the menu, especially for vegetarians. And the prices are too steep. We spent €60 for lunch for two people. It's not justified for the location and selection of food, hence only three stars.

Very cozy atmosphere, service was quick and friendly. We had the witch's schnitzel, and you could tell everything was handmade. Everything was delicious!

We were absolutely thrilled. For starters, we had the bruschetta – honestly, it was better than the Italian restaurant directly across the street! Crispy bread, fruity tomatoes, perfectly seasoned with fresh basil and a hint of garlic. A treat you can't find anywhere else. For main courses, we had a rum steak and a pork steak. Both steaks were cooked to perfection – beautifully browned on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. The side dishes complemented them perfectly, and the portions were more than generous. The service was friendly and attentive, and we immediately felt welcome. We'll definitely be back – you can't spend a better evening than this!

Very nice restaurant. We visited again after three years and really enjoyed it again. The menu isn't as overcrowded anymore. The only dish we missed from our previous visit was the chicken roulade. It was very tasty. Perhaps it will make it back on the menu on our next visit.

The best schnitzels for miles around; you can hear the pounding as they're cooked all the way through. Always happy to come back, keep it up.

After a long hike, we spontaneously decided to eat at the Hexenklausel. It was 7:15 p.m., and according to Google, the restaurant closes at 8:30 p.m. We asked if we could get something to eat. The waitress was very friendly and said, "Of course you can get something to eat." We had the Wiener Schnitzel and the Jalapeno Schnitzel. We were well looked after throughout. The food was truly excellent. Even my requests for salad and cranberry sauce were accommodated. We will definitely be back! The ambiance was perfect for us and perfectly suited the name Hexenklausel.

We arrived hungry from the treetop walk and discovered this lovely restaurant. The small lunch snack, consisting of various salads, was very well presented and tasted delicious.

Overpriced, choleric boss I don't even know where to begin. As a group of 10, we were looking forward to a fun evening, but we could talk about what it ultimately turned out to be. Our seats were reserved, and we were assigned a table in the back of the restaurant. Because of the stuffy air, we asked for the windows to be opened. One window could be opened, but the keys to the others were missing. Our drink orders were brought after 20 minutes. Then we waited another 1.5 hours for our food (despite asking twice). I should add that the restaurant was also occupied by about 12 other guests who arrived after us and received their food before us. When we asked the boss, we were reprimanded/sworn at, which left us all speechless. We had mixed opinions about the food. The fried potatoes were crispy, but very oily. (Price for fried potatoes with beans: €17.50) The schnitzel was also a bit oily and a bit dry. I was a bit shocked at the €7.50 price tag for a bottle of water. We would have liked to order more drinks, but that wasn't possible because no one else was there to serve us. The list could go on forever; unfortunately, our evening at the Hexenklause will remain a negative memory for a long time. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant. Oh, and anyone allergic to pet hair should stay outside, because there's a huge German Shepherd lying on a dirty blanket next to the counter.

Gastronomy couldn't be worse! A waste of time and money. The dining room was stuffy. After a long time, the manager managed to open a small window. And we were told in an accusatory tone that she had a hundred keys and didn't even know which key fit which window. We should have left by then! After 30 minutes, we were able to order a round of drinks. That was also the only round of drinks we were allowed to order. After several inquiries, the food arrived an hour and a half after ordering. The manager's rude reply: "It says on the menu that it takes so long." We didn't read it. It was our fault! Sorry, out of place! The food was okay, but the value for money was not at all right. And last but not least, we had to pay in cash! A sure sign that the lights are about to go out here! Better early than late!

The food at the other restaurants looked good, but we were greeted immediately by the lady of the house (presumably) in an unfriendly manner; others left immediately. No attention, no structure, guests receive food and have to ask for cutlery themselves, etc. Prices are very high compared to the region, even for drinks. The furniture is past its best. The food was great. Apart from the crew, we didn't feel very comfortable there. It wasn't busy where we were sitting, but after being seated, we had to wait about 20 minutes for the waiter to come back. We had politely asked if we could order. We were only told that the waiter was alone that day. You can understand all this if he didn't serve the guests who arrived after us first and take their orders. And then saying something stupid was the icing on the cake. But oh well. Overall, the food was delicious.

Typical Harz restaurant: rustic and a bit dusty. Good home cooking with sufficient portions. The men in service are all in a good mood. Price for dish + 2 beers and TG just under 30-35€. Please take enough time with you. It took us about an hour to get to Prime.

For 3 schnitzels, 2x2 fried eggs, 2x fried potatoes, but the normal side dish was missing, strangely enough, 2 large Pils, 1 large and a small Radler, 2 small Kiba, 105, - of course without an invoice, is a bit too expensive and in my opinion a bit questionable. Apparently the drinks cost around 40, which is definitely overpriced.

a nice location, yes. I somehow don't understand all the positive reviews. Either the good chef is no longer there, or a lot of people have aberrant tastes. It's not fresh, you can tell immediately if it comes out of the package. And if it's fresh, my goodness, I've never come across such a disgusting bruschetta or salad. Waiters could also tone down their cheeky attitude a bit. “Yeah, I have a lot to do inside too” or something like that, which is something no guest wants to hear. really a strange shop.

Cozy restaurant for a hot meal in the afternoon During our visit to Bad Harzburg, we had a hot meal at the Hexenklause in the afternoon – and that turned out to be an excellent choice. The restaurant has a cozy, traditional appearance with nice details that match the witch theme of the region. We were kindly received and helped quickly. Even though it was not yet a dinner rush, every attention was paid to us. What we especially appreciated: the children were really well taken care of. They immediately received something to drink, a child-friendly menu and their food arrived quickly. Ideal for a relaxing lunch with the family. The food was tasty and well served. We chose typical German dishes such as schnitzels and Bratwurst, which were well prepared and beautifully presented. The soup of the day and side dishes were also popular. In short: a nice place for a hot meal in the middle of the day, with hospitable staff and a child-friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended for families who want to relax and eat well during a day in the Harz.

Tonight I had a very tasty meal here. A fresh, juicy schnitzel with hunter's sauce and spaetzle. The starter, the witch's pot, is highly recommended. (Similar to a chili c.C.) I liked that the dressing of the side salad was refined with garlic and some butter was added to the spaetzle. Exactly to my taste! Downer: The menu advertises “no finished products”. This awakens the hope of homemade spaetzle. But these are not! Service was good, prices for the food were still reasonable, beer was a bit too expensive. Ambiance matches the theme of the restaurant and is cozy. I would definitely come back.

The food wasn't bad but not particularly good either. Schnitzel a little dry. I thought the fried potatoes were very good. All in all a solid C+, I would say.

This evening we were there for schnitzel with our two children. It was well filled, our four schnitzels were freshly made in the kitchen. My husband had a "witch's pot" as a starter... It was very tasty and very plentiful. We found the wait for the food to be reasonable. After all, there were still tables ahead of us. The schnitzels were really good, our children polished them off completely. We really liked that you were allowed to choose your own side dish. I myself had fried potatoes... They were super tasty: nice with onions and really fried. This is exactly how fried potatoes should be! My husband had a baked potato with the schnitzel, which he also found very tasty. We were satisfied with the service, everyone there was very friendly.

Both the schnitzel and the vegetarian schnitzel were very tasty. The service was very friendly and brought us our drinks and food in no time. The decor looks a bit older, but fits the name of the restaurant very well.

We were there on the weekend and were warmly welcomed and served! We were there with three children who had fun with the building blocks and were kept busy. Not always a given in a restaurant either! The food was very tasty and the normal portions were really sufficient! Only the children's noodle portion was a bit lean, so I had to order it again. Das Essen war lecker. Die Preise sind schon etwas hoch aber die Portionen sind dafür in Ordnung. Unser Kind hat direkt was zum spielen bekommen was wir sehr nett fanden. Das Hexenklause macht einen in die Jahre gekommenen Eindruck. Wir hätten njcht gedacht, das wir hier lecker e essen erhalten. Das Essen können wir empfehlen aber die Location ist gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Where do we start? We had bruschetta as a starter. That was ok except for the lack of spices. What happened next was wow in a negative sense. My wife had a Hawaiian schnitzel with fries. The fries were fried completely hard, the schnitzel was dripping with fat. I had the Angus rump steak with a baked potato. The potato was the size of a triplet and the steak was by far the worst thing I've ever eaten. To top it off, the service was attentive, we had salt and pepper brought to the table, but these were removed again when they were needed elsewhere. We never saw it again. Regarding the atmosphere, yes it is older and has charm, it was clean itself. However, the owner's family was also apparently present, chatting in a way that was just anti-social. My condolences to the two small children. Payment was only possible in cash, there was no receipt.

After an eventful day in the Harz, we wanted to have dinner before heading home. The waitress spoke to you as if you had known each other for years. We ordered food, which came after 90 minutes. The food was lukewarm and nothing special. The toilets were under construction. When I went to wash my hands, I found that the water was cold. Suddenly a construction worker stood behind me with dirty work clothes. Card payment didn't work and we didn't get a receipt either.

Really a shame! You used to be able to eat really well here. Unfortunately the staff must have changed. The place looks dingy. The food was disproportionate to the price and unfortunately was of rather (poor) snack quality. You can only pay in cash. The waitress only tells you the amount, you don't get a bill. A rogue who thinks evil...

Overall, the food is ok but not outstanding. Ketchup or mayo with fries costs extra for a dish, which is not communicated beforehand, which I don't think is right given the prices. When paying, the invoice amount is stated and only shown when asked, which I find questionable. My schnitzel was a little dry but it fills you up. However, I wouldn't recommend the place, the service is very absent, the decoration is funny

Totally run down location, friendly service, creepy dirty atmosphere, food of average quality at best at high prices and a big dog in the entrance area, snack quality at completely exorbitant prices. Toilet broken and unusable, no card payment possible and garbage bags with leaves stacked in front of the door. Once, never again.

We drove a move from Radebeul to Bad Harzburg on Saturday (November 2nd, 2024). After finishing, we walked around the beautiful pedestrian street in search of a late lunch. It was already quite late. Shortly before the kitchen closed, we returned to the witch's hermitage. It was our last hope. We were received very politely and, after explaining our precarious situation, we were given two Wiener schnitzels with fries, shandy and coffee. The food tasted very good, the steak was also medium rare. Unfortunately, the whole thing is served on ice-cold plates, which means the steak gets cold faster than you can eat it. Unfortunately then no more enjoyment. A no go at that price. The staff is actually quite nice, but also a bit flippant. The rooms are nicely designed, but unfortunately not really warm for November.

At the end of October you can still get a table here at 5:30 p.m. even without a reservation. The staff was very friendly and well-coordinated. The ambience has character. The witch dolls hang everywhere. The schnitzel selection is varied, but unfortunately the implementation is just ok. Here Bruschetta Schnitzel sounded more exciting than what it ended up being. We found the partly burnt pieces of breading to be annoying. All in all, not a top restaurant and not a clear recommendation for a short vacation. Attention: Cash payment only!

The owner was probably sitting next to us at the table with her children and grandchildren. There was a tone that the whole place had: After the first people quickly paid to leave the restaurant, things got worse and worse. Well, then came a baked potato with quark (which wasn't fresh and not homemade) and a lot of slices of red onion on top... Of course my daughter didn't eat it. ..
