Pfefferkorn Steakhouse in Hannover

To be honest, I have never eaten such a good steak and the whole thing was topped with the potato gratin. We would love to come back. Thanks!!!

TL;DR: The restaurant seems appealing, but my rump steak, which I ordered medium, was cooked incorrectly twice - first too raw, then completely raw on the outside and still raw on the inside. The boss was unfriendly and not open to criticism. Overall, the food was average, the atmosphere was good, but the service experience was disappointing. Without apology or accommodation, I leave the restaurant and will not return. Experience report from September 2022: The restaurant looks appealing at first glance, the decor is nice and the atmosphere is inviting. The waiters were very friendly. I ordered a rump steak, medium. But when it was served, I was initially surprised: Where was the edge of fat? It would have been okay if they had asked me beforehand or at least pointed it out. I found it inappropriate to simply remove the edge of fat without consulting and fry the steak like that (all sides had grill marks). When I cut it, the next disappointment came - the steak looked like my neighbor's, who had ordered medium rare, and even he said it was a little too raw for his taste. The waiter showed great understanding and apologized. When the steak came back, it was cooked through on the outside and still raw on the inside (obviously overcooked). The second waiter, who later turned out to be the boss, felt he had to lecture me and insisted that this was "medium". Overall, he was very unfriendly and not very open to criticism. However, the core of the steak was raw! "Medium" has nothing to do with raw. My companion, who worked in the catering industry, confirmed my assessment: It was medium rare to rare. So I sent the steak back again. On the third try it was OK, but not at all what I expect at a steakhouse. At home I can do this at least as well, if not better, with a temperature sensor in the oven. Now the steak had a heavy gray edge and was still partially raw on the inside. I have to say that my piece was very thick - but I didn't choose it. By now the fries were cold too. The only “dip” available was various salsas; As I saw on the map, that has now changed. When paying, I told the first waiter everything again and gave him feedback, especially about the boss's behavior, which I found to be completely unacceptable. He apologized again and confirmed that it was indeed the boss. Conclusion: Overall, the food was average. The design of the place may be something special, but that alone is not a reason for me to come back. Maybe the owner had a bad day - but something like that shouldn't happen. There was no discount, no apology from the boss. I will not visit this restaurant again.

I ordered the surf and turf at Pfefferkorn and it was really excellent! The combination of tender steak and fresh seafood was cooked to perfection. The service was very attentive and friendly, you immediately felt comfortable and in good hands. I found the personal and courteous nature of the service staff particularly pleasant, which made the entire evening a thoroughly successful experience. I'll definitely be back!

Been there again after a long time. We still know the Pfefferkorn under the old “leadership”. Service => nice, courteous. Ambiance => appealing, clean. Map => good selection. To eat. Ratsherren Schnitzel=> unfortunately no fresh mushrooms, so the sauce is a bit “loose”; Fried potatoes, maybe a little crispier next time. Veal hunter schnitzel, with the sauce, see above. Side salad fresh and crunchy. Schnitzel/breading was good. We would be happy to come back and if necessary we would be happy to give it 5 stars. 😎

I had the filet mignon with 250g - it was very carelessly served with mushrooms and fried potatoes. It definitely wasn't worth the price.

Price performance absolutely good, service very nice and accommodating, the paprika sauce and the pepper cream sauce can still be improved, but I'll definitely be back. Had the peppercorn platter for 2 and can only recommend it.

Years ago it was very good in the “old” style and now it remains just as good in the new style. The food is very high quality and the price-performance ratio is right. I found some of the drinks a bit overpriced but otherwise everything is reasonable. We will continue to eat our steak there. Keep it up!!!

After a report in the “Neue Presse”, we visited the Pfefferkorn again after a long time. The steaks were on point, the side dishes were very tasty and the salad couldn't be topped. The service is very courteous and attentive. Unfortunately, we have missed something in the last few years. We are already looking forward to the next visit.

Obwohl mir seit drei Jahren in der Nachbarschaft wohnen, haben wir uns lange Zeit nicht zu einem Besuch des „Pfefferkorn“ motivieren können, Grund: wenig gemütliche Außenwirkung, Preisstruktur, wechselhafte Bewertungen auf verschiedene Portalen. Nun sind wir dort eingekehrt und waren weitgehend positiv überrascht. Der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam, Getränke kamen schnell an dem Tisch. Die Hauptspeise („Pfefferkörnchen“ - eine gemischte Platte für zwei Personen mit viererlei Steak und Filets, Bratkartoffeln, Pommes, Gemüse und Salat) war lecker, die Menge genau passend. Kleine Kritikpunkte: die Garstufe wurde nicht erfragt und war dann mit Medium Well leider etwas zu weit, das Bratgemüse etwas zu fettig, die Soßen (Sambal und Bernaise) schmackhaft aber vermutlich beide auf Basis einer Instant-Hollandaise und auch etwas knapp bemessen. Positiv zu erwähnen sind die vorgewärmten Teller. Unsere Vorspeise (Rindertartar) war leider sehr fein gewolft und etwas überwürzt, sodass man vom Fleisch wenig schmeckte. Zwei kleine Röstbrotscheiben waren für die Portion zu wenig. Überdacht werden sollte die Getränkekarte: die Bierauswahl lässt sowohl regionale als auch argentinische Biere vermissen, schön und ein USP wären argentinische Craftbiere; 6 Euro für eine Flasche stilles Wasser sind überzogen, bei der sonstigen Preisstruktur sollte unaufgefordert gratis Leistungswasser gereicht werden. Die Preise der Gerichte sind für das Ausgeschriebene vollkommen in Ordnung, aufgrund der genannten (handwerklichen) Mängel dann aber doch etwas zu hoch. Wir würden gern wiederkommen und würden uns freuen, wenn unsere Kritikpunkte aufgegriffen werden.

We sat outside and although there was a lot of traffic on the street, it was hardly noticeable in the square. Even the dressing on the starter salad was very tasty. The schnitzels were very appetizingly prepared and fried to perfection. Extra requests were responded to in a friendly manner. The service was attentive and friendly. A successful meal. We'd love to come back.

Im Prinzip war alles ok. Aber der Pfiff fehlte. Ich kenne das alte Pfefferkorn, Karte und Umsetzung hatten mehr Qualität. Als Vorspeise hatte ich Carpaccio von der Roten Beete mit Ziegenkäse. Extrem dünne Beetescheiben, ungewürzt mit einem dicken Stück Ziegenfrischkäse, Walnüsse. Die Salatsoße war geschmacklos und sehr geizig bemessen. Dann hatte ich ein Filetsteak Mignon mit gemischtem Salat (der vor der Vorspeise serviert wurde), der sich letztendlich zum größten Teil als Kohlsalat entpuppte, Salatsoße nicht wählbar, Salz fehlte. Ein fader Salat. Champions und Bratkartoffeln als Beilage. Die Bratkartoffeln waren klasse. Die Champignons viel zu lange gebraten, wohl etwas älter, lappig, geschmacklos gewürzt. Das Steak war ok. Zwei kleine Soßen dazu: rot und grün. Die Rote gut gewürzt, die Grüne völlig geschmacklos. Für mich passten diese Soßen keinesfalls zum Gericht. Zu einem Filet Mignon gehört für mich eine gut gekochte Soße, nicht ein kaltes Sambal Olek-Gemisch. Leider ist die Auswahl mit Rindfleischsteaks dürftig, nur ein Filet auf der Karte. Das ist für ein Steakhouse wenig. Und in der Optik muss sich noch sehr viel tun! Das macht jeder Hobbykoch besser.

I have known this restaurant for a long time and used to eat there with my family. I never liked it because it was too dark. The food was actually always good. Now it is bright and modernly furnished. The food was perfect and the price was right too. We will come back. Update: Prices have gone up a lot... It's definitely due to the increase in VAT... What bothered me more, however, is that a medium-sized steak is bloody... I know it as pink... That's why a star was deducted for the food...

Einen Stern gebe ich für die sehr nette Bedienung, einen , weil meine Mitesser mit ihren Steaks zufrieden waren. Ich finde es jedoch unverständlich, wenn ein Grillhaus einen Fisch zu Tode grillt. Der Lachs war einfach nur trocken der Spargel war völlig verkocht und leider auch nicht frisch. Also die saisonale Karte würde ich nicht beachten und tatsächlich dort nur das Essen. Wofür es wohl bekannt ist, nämlich Steak.

We were greeted very nicely, very attentive and friendly service, who were also happy to respond to requests. Prices were appropriate for the quality. From start to finish everything has always been right. If requested, a cooking level of “medium rare” also worked wonderfully. See you next time :-)

Great steaks, great service, gladly again

Very tasty food and super friendly service, incredibly nice owner. We traveled here from Munich for the Hannover Messe and were very positively surprised. My recommendation, the New Zealand lamb fillet.

Spontaneously on a Saturday everything was made possible to conjure up a table for 5 people, the food and the service were great. Gladly again ! (toilets very clean)

There were 5 people with reservations. Even though the store was completely full, we were served quickly. All the employees were very friendly. The food was really very good... I don't say that often... The prices were still reasonable, you can't find cheap anymore. I had the peppercorn fillet plate deliciously delicious. We'll definitely be back.

Been there many times...always a pleasure! Long-standing and friendly employee with a smile to greet you, real flowers on the table, a delicious fresh and crunchy salad and in the main course the meat - including the fish! - always fried to perfection. Just as suitable for a dinner for two as for a family celebration. For my big birthday party last year, the table was decorated with nice decorations and all it took to continue the drinks, appetizers, etc. was eye contact with the lovely waitress. This attention can (unfortunately) no longer be found everywhere. Also the general The usual price increase in 2024 is quite moderate in terms of quality, price and performance. Went there for the first time today. For two, the food was 10/10, service 10/10. Boss 10/10. such lovely and great people who work there. I can only recommend. We now always go there whenever we want to eat steak.

We were warmly welcomed and the service was really top. Prices were appropriate for the quality. And the warm apple strudel, with delicious vanilla ice cream as dessert, is really recommended.

A restaurant with tradition. Even though we always have to look for a parking space, we like to eat here. Steak in all its forms is primarily on the menu here and that's exactly what draws us here again and again. The taste is always delicious, but the price is not necessarily cheap. But this is put into perspective by the quality delivered - at least when it comes to food. In any case, the shop is always full and a table is usually only available with a reservation.

Ordered steak medium, unfortunately it was delivered bloody. After we complained, it was taken away again. After 2 minutes, exactly the same steak was brought to me. Completely burnt on the top, but still bloody on the inside. I also had that returned. Despite everything, the full price was charged. This restaurant will never see us again. So we tried it again and went to the Pfefferkorn. The boss personally came to us to talk about the last visit. We really liked that. The Pfefferkorn restaurant far exceeded my expectations. From start to finish the dining experience was simply sublime. I chose the tartare as a starter, followed by a juicy rump steak as the main course and at the end there was a heavenly tiramisu. The tartare was perfectly seasoned and of the highest quality, which was already indicative of the care and skill of the kitchen team. The rump steak was grilled to perfection, tender and juicy, accompanied by delicious side dishes. The dessert selection left nothing to be desired, and the tiramisu was a real treat for the senses. As far as the service is concerned, I can only praise it. The staff was attentive, friendly and professional. They ensured that my evening in the Pfefferkorn Restaurant was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also very pleasant. The decor was stylish and cozy at the same time, which contributed to a relaxed ambience. Overall, my visit to the Pfefferkorn Restaurant was a culinary highlight that I can recommend to anyone who appreciates excellent food, first-class service and a pleasant atmosphere.

Update: Eating monotonously the last few times. Everything tastes the same. But the worst: the waitress drops the cutlery and puts it back in the clean one. And the highlight: She clears away supposedly unused napkins and puts them with the unused ones. That makes you sick. After many years of regular visits, we won't be showing up there any time soon. The staff is consistently polite. The price-performance ratio is 1a. Everything clean and well maintained. 1 star deducted because potatoes taste like they came from a jar and because the portions of the croquettes are sometimes very small. Side dishes could be a little less salty.

The steaks are great. Side dishes and sauces were a bit cold. The apple strudel as dessert was great 👍 Ambience was ok. Quite loud when it's full. But we'd love to come back again.

Hier gibt es gleich bleibende Qualität des Essens und des Services. Das Fleisch ist sehr zart und diese geniale Pilzsosse habe ich noch nirgendwo geschmacklich so wieder gefunden.Ein grosses Lob an die Besitz und die Köche ,wir sind wirklich noch nicht einmal in den zig Jahren wo wir dort Speisen geschmacklich enttäuscht worden. Wir waren sowohl an unserem Jahrestag im Mai bei euch, als auch heute am 31.12.2023. Der Service ist jedes Mal wahnsinnig toll, nett und zuvorkommend. Das Essen ist einfach großartig! Euer Salatteller ist unfassbar lecker (das Dressing!) und euer Fleisch immer perfekt gebraten, egal was man sich wünscht. Extrawünsche werden erfüllt und auch die Desserts sind immer total lecker. Alles in allem kommen wir für besondere Anlässe wirklich gerne zu euch. Danke, bei euch fühlt man sich richtig wohl!

Kannte Pfefferkorn aus den 90ern in Hannover und so sind wir spontan eingekehrt. Wir hatten Steaks mit Salaten und Fries bzw. Bratkartoffeln. Das Essen war prima und reichlich, der Service pragmatisch und freundlich. Wir hätten uns gewünscht, dass der Wirt den lärmenden und reichlich unangenehmes Zeug absondernden Geschäftsführer (?) der Weihnachtsfeier am Nachbartisch etwas zur Ordnung gerufen hätte, um den Aufenthalt charmanter zu gestalten. Allerdings haben wir es unterlassen, darum zu bitten - sind also etwas mit Schuld.

Schönes ruhiges Ambiente, sehr angenehmes und zuvorkommendes Personal. Das Essen ist wirklich gut, besonders die Steaks sind perfekt. Schönen Gruß an die liebe Chefin 😉

Eigentlich ist das Essen immer lecker wenn wir zum abholen bestellen. Heute aber war der Burger und Pommes arg kalt, extra bestellte Sauce vergessen und zum Schluss noch Plastik (von Käse) im Burger. Sehr schade bei den Preisen.

Beim Pfefferkorn stimmt einfach alles! Neben dem herausragendem Service und dem sehr gemütlichen Ambiente steht hier die Qualität der Gerichte im absolutem Vordergrund. Man merkt einfach das es sich hier um ein vollumpfängliches Gesamtkonzeot handelt. Ich kann das Pfefferkorn mit aller besten Gewissen empfehlen.

Das Essen war in Ordnung aber auch kein Highlight. Ich wollte gerne mein Steak medium haben und ich bekam das Steak durchgegart. Beim zweiten Versuch war das Steak englisch. Das sollte in einem Steakhaus nicht passieren. Was betrifft die Bedienung waren alle sehr freundlich.
