I went to eat at Block House with my friends and, sadly, I have to say: I haven't had such a disappointing visit in a long time. At first, everything was fine – the server, Moesha Schlüter, was friendly, the appetizers were delicious, and the first impression was positive. But then, with the main course, we were shocked: The steak was tough, undercooked, and even had a tendon in it. It also tasted like the meat wasn't fresh anymore. We immediately addressed this, but instead of showing understanding or replacing the dish, the employee tried to force us to pay for the entire meal, even though we had only tasted it once and then left it. The situation escalated to the point where the police had to be called – all because we didn't want to pay for something that was inedible! In the end, Ms. Schlüter even admitted herself that the meat wasn't good. Nevertheless, we had to pay part of the bill, which I find simply unfair. I don't think that's how you treat guests. If a dish is obviously not good, you should respond accommodatingly rather than confronting it. The evening was completely ruined, and I won't be visiting this Block House again anytime soon.

Super delicious, friendly staff

The only positive thing about the place is the food. The staff is unfortunately unfriendly, passive-aggressive, and condescending, and instead of five loaves of bread, you only get four, even though the waiter said he counted.

Four of us ate there on a Saturday. The service was top-notch! Simply superb – friendly, dedicated, and reliable. Top-notch. Of course, we've eaten there a few times before, but now I'm happy to leave a review :-). I had the tartar. It didn't suit my taste. I lacked the "tactile quality" in my mouth. Everything was so mashed up. I would have loved to bite into a caper or cucumber. The way it was presented, well... And all for just under €13. The bread was too dark, greasy, and cold for me. The bread is generally great, BUT: Please serve it hot, otherwise it's not good. I had the bruschetta first, and that was so-so too... The bread was cold, and for just under €6, too little for me personally. The steak was good – my husband says it had a typical Blockhouse flavor – whatever that means *lol*. Price: €25. He thought it was very tasty, though. The onion soup was okay – just under €8. All in all, too crowded, too expensive for THAT evening (it could be better). Unfortunately, the language used on the plates isn't enough.

Delicious steaks and fresh salads, but terrible service. The waitress mixed up the steaks we ordered, and also started arguing and shouting, which is completely unacceptable. In the end, the steak was remade and unnecessary tasteless bruschetta was brought as compensation, but the mood was ruined and there was no apology. They also forgot to serve extra sour cream to the 5 portions of potatoes, as is usually done in the other two Block House restaurants in Hannover. Better choose another Block House, so as not to spoil your evening. Date of visit 24.09 after 20:00

Update 9/18/2025: I've never experienced such a bad-tempered and rude manager. Remember one thing: guests are not your followers. YOUR behavior is unbecoming and inappropriate. I would have fired someone like you immediately. The Block House isn't what it used to be either: the American dressing has gone downhill, the pumpkin seeds on the salad 🥗 aren't necessarily to everyone's taste, I didn't like the hamburger, and the bread underneath was squashed and out of place. The ambiance is definitely ZERO, as guests who are way too loud apparently don't want to give other guests peace and quiet. Management could certainly intervene, but they didn't.

The rib-eye steak was medium-rare and delicious. I highly recommend the mushrooms—it was fragrant and delicious. The Tattan beef might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it has a unique flavor.

We went to the restaurant without a reservation. We had a dog with us. I asked for water for my pet. But there wasn't any. They said there was a bowl of water at the entrance. I was absolutely appalled. Anyone could put poison in it, and nobody there cares. That restaurant is a total no-go for me, my family, and friends. Anyone who doesn't like animals certainly doesn't like people. Hot to Ms. Block! Because that certainly wasn't the staff's decision. Never again for us at Blockhaus. No matter where.

The food was generally okay and we enjoyed it. Overall, we were satisfied. Our server was very nice and friendly, although he seemed a bit irritated by one or two questions. Especially in a restaurant of this type, one would have wished for more attentive and patient service. We had one or two questions about the appetizers and the meat, and we had the impression that the menu was best known by heart.

We've been to Block House many times, but this visit was by far the worst. The bruschetta was solana and rather mediocre for the price. Our order was taken incorrectly, and instead of a rump steak with mushrooms, I was served a small steak. Since we had ordered three 230g steaks, mine stood out significantly. It turned out that the server had taken the order incorrectly... While the others were eating, a new steak was prepared for me. Unfortunately, the quality of the meat in all the steaks was very mediocre. I was served another small steak. To avoid an even longer wait, I resigned myself to my fate. We're used to better things from Block House and will consider coming back next time.

Super friendly staff and absolutely impeccable service. You're not just fobbed off, but made to feel welcome as a guest. We had to reschedule our reservation because we wouldn't have been able to make it otherwise, and it worked out perfectly. The food was first-class.

I knew at first glance—well, actually, from the smell, before it even appeared in front of me—that this wasn't going to be a rush job. The Rybeye at Block House, Thielenplatz, not to be confused with the usual compromise steaks, hit that rare spot: approximately 60 percent medium-well. Roasted on the outside so that the aroma is already working in advance, with that matte surface that doesn't shine like it's polished, but rather whispers: "Time. Patience. Right now." Inside: tension in the meat, soft at the core, a slight resistance to the fork, almost as if it wants to hold on for a moment longer—and then it simply gives in. This isn't something "well-turned." This is skill, period. The crust? Salty, but not cheeky, a faint hint of caramel. Cleanly cut. The juices stay where they belong. Not a single drop escapes. Seasoned—yes, to my liking. Coarse pepper from the house, warm in aroma, lightly roasted with garlic. I sprinkle it myself. Not because I have to. But because I like it that way. Because that last hint of heat is my signature. Side dishes? No competition. Bread that breaks on the outside, comes alive on the inside. Potatoes, creamy without being too overpowering. Cucumber slices with fresh radish, spicy enough to catch your attention for a moment, yet restrained enough not to overpower the star. The salad? I skip it – out of respect. Anyone who comes in here is looking for meat. Anyone looking for arugula hasn't heard the sound of the embers. And in the end: no frills, no tricks. Just craftsmanship, heart, heat – and a kitchen that knows when it simply doesn't need to do anything anymore.

It's been a long time since we've been to a Blockhouse Restaurant. Even though we were there just before closing time, we were treated in a friendly and courteous manner. The food was great as always, and there was also an appealing selection of dishes for the children.

Personally, I think the Block House is always worth a visit. Delicious food, a cozy atmosphere, and, above all, some of the friendliest service in the city! Recently, after my visit this weekend: the restaurant on Thielenplatz in Hanover City Center. We had Martina serving us throughout the evening with a smile 😃 and a good mood. Thanks again for that! You can get through the evening in a great mood thanks to the incredibly friendly people and good food. Highly recommended.

The best Block House in Hanover 🥰

This was our first time at Block House and we were completely thrilled. The ambiance is cozy and stylish, and the service was warm, attentive, and professional from the very first moment. Our server was super friendly and always had a smile on his face – just what you want! The food was absolutely outstanding: The steak was cooked to perfection, tender, and full of flavor. The sides – especially the oven-fresh Block House bread, fries, and salad – were also simply delicious. You can tell the quality is what they do here. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Block House to any steak lover. Excellent value for money and an all-round successful evening!

Birthday Dinner I started the tradition of this meal in our family. The birthday child chooses a restaurant, the family eats together, and I pay at the end of the evening. Today we celebrated our daughter's birthday. She lives with her husband north of Hanover, so "in the city." Only, Hanover was packed. Fiesta de la Música. So we booked a table at 'Block House'. Birthdays weren't our theme. Nevertheless, one of the waiters noticed that it was our daughter's birthday. At the end, there was a small table fireworks display, a scoop of ice cream, and all the waiters who had time sang "Happy Birthday." Why am I mentioning this? 'Block House' is a large chain. Completely structured. Anything but the small Italian restaurant next door that you often see. But even people who are working when others are celebrating are happy when you're nice to them. Even if you may never see each other again - if YOU are nice to people, THEY are nice to you. It's actually quite simple, isn't it?

Difficult to rate. I'd love to give it two stars, but for the other three, the food wasn't as bad as it was for me. I really wanted to go back because I had the most delicious burger in Hanover here years ago. After complaining about the patty, which arrived well-done, I was told they offer convenience food. In any case, the patty was not only cooked through, but water also oozed out when I pressed it. From what was once the most delicious burger in Hanover to now, in my opinion, the most disgusting. A friend's fillet steak was well-done instead of medium-well. Another friend's potato and salad were underwhelming. Another friend didn't have the same problems with the burger as I did, but didn't like it either. Never, never again. I'm sorry for the money and the taste I lost by not going somewhere else. One of the only times I complained extensively about my food and didn't leave a tip. To make amends, I was offered an espresso, which I declined.

It was our first time eating at a Block House. And it won't be the last. The service was truly first-class 👍👍👍, and even those with gluten intolerance can find something to eat thanks to the friendly staff. Thank you so much 👍 it was delicious 😋 Greetings from Nordhorn

It seems as if the days of generous portions are finally over - perhaps the motto "Less is more" has been discovered at Thielenplatz. The calm atmosphere and the brisk service are quite pleasing when you realize afterwards that your stomach remains just as hungry as before the meal. Whether we work with a different kitchen team who cooks in a more minimalist way or whether hunger is integrated into the offering as a creative element remains a well-kept secret. You could almost say that you're not just paying for the food, but also for the stimulating thought about true satiety.

All together: great! I was here alone on a business trip for dinner. I ordered a mister rump steak with pan-fried vegetables instead of baked potato and coleslaw. The food came very quickly. The restaurant was about half full at the time. The service was very friendly and my requests were accepted without any problems. The toilets are also very clean and there is no unpleasant smell. There is also a very nice ambience in the interior. The price is quite reasonable these days. So all in all, there's nothing to complain about and I'll be happy to come here again.

Today I had a strange experience with my wife and daughter. We both ordered 2 steaks...mine English and hers should be done. When mine arrived it was ice cold inside...so it was still too raw for English...I wanted the steak on the grill again, it's not unusual in the Blockhouse to have a steak grilled again...asked the waitress and the young man who came from Peru questioned my request. So I would have ordered English and everything on the steak would have been ordered as well. I was a bit speechless because I now had to justify myself. I told him that the steak was still ice cold on the inside and the meat was completely raw. Now the waiter decided to call in the boss. I felt very uncomfortable after all we are guests here at least 5-6 times a year. Now what did I do wrong I asked myself. Then a young lady came with the finished steaks and of course the waiter. I had to explain myself again that the steak was cold on the inside. The unfriendly waiter was very short-tempered. I said several times that I was just a guest and that you could only let the steak cook a little longer on the grill. This was never a problem in the Blockhouse until I had to experience this basement. Of course the steak didn't taste good after that. For the first time, my wife and I didn't feel comfortable in the blockhouse.

Always delicious and super friendly. In my opinion the prices are very excessive and at just under €40 for a fillet steak, potato, a piece of baguette and a small salad. Potsdam Mendoza was a lot cheaper and also really tasty. Highly recommended if there is someone in the corner.

We were there in a large group. Overall, the food was good and was quick for the number of people there at the same time. It was my first time at Blockhouse, as I usually avoid classic restaurant chains, but I would go again if a friend suggested it. I probably wouldn't go to Blockhouse on my own.

Very friendly staff and I was able to get a seat even without a reservation during the week - even if the restaurant was almost completely full. The food is of the highest quality. The salad is fresh and crunchy. The meat (tenderloin) was a little too bloody in the middle for me to be medium rare, but thanks to the quality and good taste it was still enjoyable. Dessert rounds off the dinner. Due to the very open room design, the background noise is unfortunately very high when there are high numbers of visitors, but this is offset somewhat by the rustic ambience.

Highly recommended! Enjoyed a delicious goulash soup beforehand, full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. Then a delicious American Tenderloin, buttery tender and perfectly prepared, with creamy potato gratin as a side dish. And a delicious vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. The flavors really stood out! The service was also top notch. Hands down the best goulash and tenderloin I have ever eaten.

We were there very spontaneously with a lot of people, after a quick call it wasn't a problem. We were served very friendly throughout the evening. The waiter really tried hard. The rooms were attractive, modern and clean. Unfortunately the food was just okay. The portions were just okay, bordering on “too little”. The steak was really tiny and from medium rare to medium well done. This also meant that the steak was rather tough and the taste was also rather medium. A baked potato with sour cream was good. The sour cream at Blockhouse is well known and I personally like it very much. Salad, bread (slice with garlic), potatoes are part of the steak menu, everything else has to be paid extra, which is ok, but unfortunately necessary given the relatively small quantities. Those who like small portions can get away relatively cheaply, but those who like to eat will find it expensive. Would I go again? Probably not.

There were four of us in the Blockhouse at Thielenplatz and we were all looking forward to our meal (steak with side dishes). Unfortunately the baked potato was soggy on the inside. The friendly waiter inquired and swapped the potatoes for new ones. These were also soggy (kept warm for way too long). Unfortunately the waiter didn't ask again if the potatoes were okay. Salad was okay, meat cooked as desired, quality just about satisfactory

We can really recommend this house. We were served very well and were asked several times if everything was OK. We went there as a group and we go there at least once a year. Some people also go to this block house every now and then because it is simply good.

Never again! Pure disappointment! Incredible treatment of the customer! 15 places reserved for a business lunch for 3 months. There are no reserved seats available on the day of the event. Instead: a succinct, simple apology and, as an alternative, redirection to another location!?!? Is this customer service? Shame on you if you even know that word. Possibly The Duden or an app helps. Don't have any expectations, you can't be disappointed. Goodbye forever! PS: Zero stars are still too many!

Simply the best steaks in Hanover!

The food was tasty, but for this price you would expect a little more meat on the plate. I found it almost insulting and felt slightly robbed.

For meat lovers, Block House may be the ideal place! The meats are excellent and super tender: no complaints on this point! Perhaps an upgrade in restaurant decoration and service would be necessary to get the price accepted. There is a gap between product quality and service quality.

After visiting the Christmas market, we stopped in quickly to have something decent to eat. Block House at Thielenplatz is a safe bank, good quality at fair prices. The service was top as always. It's nice to have a service person on site to take care of the guest's needs.
