Pegelhaus in Koblenz

We visited Pegelhaus for the first time today. My wife: "Do you have a table for 4 people free by the water?" Waitress No. 1: "I can't say anything about the tables by the water, it's not my area." Waitress No. 2: "All the tables are currently occupied. My wife: "But one table has just paid." Waitress No. 2: "Yes, that's true. But the guests don't get up straight away, they want to sit for a while." My wife: "I understand that, I would wait too. Is the table free after that?" Waitress No. 2: "Pretty much every table is reserved this evening." My wife thanks for the information and wants to leave. I want to keep trying. Finally we get a table. We sit down. Waitress No. 3 to us: "But the table is reserved from 5:15 p.m." It is 5 p.m. Waitress No. 2 to waitress No. 3: "Take another table for this reservation and make a reservation for 8 p.m." and to us: "You're leaving at 8 p.m., right?" We answer in the affirmative. Only got one menu for the four of us. Drinks ordered. Guest requests for free tables annoy the waiters. Food ordered. At least there were children's portions of spaghetti. All the tables around us were set - nice plate coasters, cutlery, cloth napkins. Not our table. We get our food, cutlery is brought afterwards, just thrown in the middle, and those napkins - no words... Burger is OK. Fish is too greasy. Great view. Paid €88, 10% tip. Never again. We reserved a table for two for Valentine's Day. When we arrived, we sat at a table for 6 with 2 strangers. I actually don't have a problem with that, but I would have liked something more intimate on Valentine's Day. If I had been told this when making the reservation, we would have gone somewhere else. Unfortunately, it was so cold in the restaurant that we ate quickly to get out of there. So it was very uncomfortable and we skipped dessert. Overall, the food was okay and the service was super friendly and accommodating. But in summary it was a bad experience. As an operator, you have to ensure a proper temperature and not save on heating costs. We really wanted to try this restaurant and must note that this was our last visit.

I never really write negative reviews, but our visit to the Pegelhaus left me relatively speechless. Starting with the fact that it took over 10 minutes (with moderate activity) until the drinks were taken and it took over 20 (!!) minutes until they were brought to the table. Water etc. was also forgotten. Of course that can happen! After another 30 minutes the order for food was finally taken, but again a big negative point. Three out of four wanted to order the burgers, then they said they were out. This isn't a bad thing in principle, but you can please communicate this in advance. All right - steak was ordered. A steak was once ordered "well-done", which was brought in medium-rare. This alone is of course more than unfortunate given the entirety of what happened, but it can also happen. This was then complained about and asked to have it Grilled well done as requested. When the steak was brought back, it was still medium rare... honestly unbelievable. So the steak had to be complained about again until it was finally grilled as requested. We are talking about a price segment >30€ per steak. We all enjoyed the taste, the meat itself was delicious, as were the potato chips that were served with it. Overall, the visit was of course a failure and absolutely not recommended, very, very sad.

Great insider tip - we were there at Christmas time and had a great meal with a great view of the fortress

The two of us showed up without a reservation and we briefly checked whether a table was available, which was positive. We got the card relatively quickly but then we were left to our own devices for almost 20 minutes until the service came back and asked for something to drink. We immediately ordered drinks and food, which she typed directly into a cell phone, although she had subtle problems with it due to her long fingernails. It took about 20 minutes from the time we ordered until the food was on the table, which was absolutely fine for us. Food was flawless and delicious! After a while I asked for the bill and the service person appeared with a mobile card reader with a display and informed us that only card payment was possible. It wasn't a problem for me and in a way it was pleasing. The service staff was always friendly, but you could tell that she wasn't a specialist, which is why she only gave it 3 stars. 4 stars = expectations met.

Nice restaurant right on the Rhine, funny idea to set up "sauna barrels" in winter with a view of the water. However, the quality of the food and drinks left something to be desired. The waffle (with powdered sugar for an outrageous 8 euros) was far too thin (too stingy to put enough batter in?) and burnt on the back. And the coffee "Crema" was unfortunately only creamy for a short time and then changed to filter coffee that felt bitter. It's a shame, I was hoping for more

The reservation for our group of 20 was very quick and easy. The location of the restaurant is great. The staff was very friendly and the food was very tasty. We were completely satisfied. Thank you for this lovely evening!

We recently had our Christmas party there and I have to say it was really below average. As a group of 14 people, we sat separately upstairs, which was absolutely not conducive to a Christmas party. Table "1" was asked first what they wanted to drink and table "2" only 10 minutes later. Similar thing when ordering food - annoying. The beer was stale, the other drinks were OK. The burgers we ordered were cold 6 out of 7 times. My rump steak with onions was great, really, but definitely not in the number of grams specified, because my colleagues had enormously larger pieces (complaining at a high level). The potato chips were definitely too crispy and fried in old fat. I think that if you eat there with two or a maximum of four people in the summer, the environment is nicer and the service is faster, without the blood from the steak being spread all over the chair when you clear it away..... Sorry, but too expensive for what we ended up getting.

We were at the Pegelhaus because of our Christmas party. Had a table upstairs with a view of the fortress (including the Christmas Garden lights). Beautiful ambience, super friendly service and delicious food - roulade with apple red cabbage and two types of dumplings. Simply great and definitely recommended - would be happy to come again at any time!

Overall, a moderately acceptable offer - but too expensive. When we asked for an alternative side dish, we received an ice-cold meal. The rump steak was almost unseasoned. The dessert also didn't correspond to what was offered on the menu. The cappuccino was also lukewarm. Surely the service should have noticed - but there was a passive and inattentive service staff there that evening. This restaurant could do more - but it only impresses with its unique location.

You have to be lucky, we got space in the water gauge house at short notice. Outside in one of the barrels. The food was very tasty and our service person Vanessa was incredibly nice and very hardworking. The toilets were very clean, the atmosphere was nice. Small packages on the stairs and other Christmas decorations made the whole thing nice and cozy. We'll be back

Sehr schönes Restaurant mit sehr guter Küche und freundlichem Personal. Gerne mal wieder wenn man in Koblenz ist.

Original location, unfortunately a bit narrow. Staff friendly, but a bit inattentive, you sometimes have to ask emphatically to take your order. I miss sauces for the very expensive steak variations. Meat on burgers is also quite “English”, you have to like it. Fries very greasy. It's all a matter of taste and I personally found the steak itself quite tasty. Selection of side dishes is mediocre.

In cold weather there is only room at the top, I think 6 or 7 tables and it's tiring for my 84 year old mother to climb to the top. Not for people with disabilities! Service was great but unfortunately I didn't like it at all. The prices are really high even if the dishes are nicely prepared.

Wir waren das erste Mal im Pegelhaus und ich habs mir etwas vornehmer/hochwertiger vorgestellt. Die intime Atmosphäre im Panorama-Restaurant ist schön, aber hätte von der Bedienung besser genutzt werden können. Sie war höflich, aber hat das Erlebnis nicht besonders unterstrichen. Mehr Interesse am Gast und Beziehungsaufbau fände ich toll. Die Treppen sind schon länger nicht mehr gewischt worden und die Toiletten wirken stillos, insbesondere mit dem Putzbesen neben dem Waschbecken. Wir haben angegeben, dass wie Jahrestag haben. Unten wurde uns zwar nett „Alles Liebe zum Jahrestag!“ zugerufen, aber mehr war‘s dann auch nicht. Wieso kann man das dann angeben? Selbst nach dem Anzünden der Kerzen auf dem Tisch mussten wir selbst fragen. Auf den anderen Tischen waren sie auch nicht an. An der Atmosphäre kann definitiv noch gearbeitet werden!! Das Essen und Trinken war allerdings sehr lecker!

It's easy to live in the water level house.

We were there yesterday for my birthday, it was very tasty. We were disappointed with the service, we were the only guests upstairs. Due to my pregnancy I wanted to know if the grape secco is 0.0. She believed 0.2, which was too uncertain for me to believe. If the service is good, I expect to just go and check out the offer. In general she came across as very listless and unmotivated. Otherwise it looks great, it's nice to sit up there and chat in peace.

If you haven't been there you can't believe it - great views of the Rhine and the fortress, in my case in wonderful sunny weather at the end of September. Nice, fast and unobtrusive service, food very good (gazpacho and green beef, strips of beef fillet with grilled vegetables), special requests are also taken into account. Prices normal, actually cheap for the quality of my food... Highly recommended!

Yes, I can with a very clear conscience. The food was delicious and there was a very nice view of the Rhine all around. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor. No elevator Pretty steep stairs So the Panorama Restaurant is not suitable for people with walking difficulties. There is another restaurant on the first floor, I can't judge that, I wasn't there

Nice to see what function the Pegelhaus has/had. At the same time, there have also been major floods of the Rhine several times in the past. In that respect, nothing new regarding high water levels.

Being outside on the water with a view of the fortress is great. Menu is manageable, but there should be something for everyone. The grilled salmon doesn't match the price/performance ratio. In terms of taste, it's more like a 5/10. The food was OK, but nothing special. There's a lot to be done here in terms of taste. Service very friendly.

Beautiful location directly on the Rhine with a wonderful view of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Often fully booked. You can still get a spot in the afternoon. In the evening you definitely have to make a reservation as there are not very many places available.

One of the most beautiful locations in Koblenz. Very tasty food, especially the meat was great! Gladly again. If you like a mix of Aperol Spritz and Lillet Wild Berry, you should try Canonita Spritz!

The ladies from the service are very friendly, natural and not fake friendly. The food, fresh and delicious. The places on the Rhine are fantastic! You feel like you're on vacation! The music, the lighting in the evening and good food with friendly service, what more could you want?

Great restaurant with a beautiful beer garden right on the Rhine! But it's best to reserve in advance! The service team was great! We were greeted warmly, the order was taken quickly and the food came quickly and for everyone at the same time! It's not cheap, but it's worth every euro! The ambience with a view of the Rhine and the fortress is simply amazing! We were very satisfied and will definitely come back!

Although busy they found us a spot without a reservation and tge food was delicious with smiling yet busy staff. €100 plus an extra €10 for the staff. Well done.

We had a nice table outside, food was very good (especially the burger ). Service was correct . One remark; we had not yet finished the starters when they already served the main dish. But after all a quite good experience.

You can drink or eat something right by the water. I sat in a beach chair and looked at the ships. Cup of coffee €4 not exactly cheap but okay for this location.

The food was delicious, unfortunately the service was rather poor. Inattentive staff, are distracted when taking orders and prefer to look at other colleagues. Unfortunately, this meant that 2 out of 6 guests received the wrong food. With up to 4 people you have the opportunity to sit directly by the water, but unfortunately you don't have such a nice view beyond that.

We had reserved a table for 6 p.m. and got there a little early. The table was already free, which is why we were allowed to sit down. The view is of course great. We were served politely by the waitress and can't complain about the treatment there. My burger was just missing a bit of spice/flavor and I'm definitely not a person who can tolerate a certain something. But you just don't hit everyone's exact taste buds. The toilets are on the 1st floor, which are unfortunately more difficult for people with disabilities to access. Otherwise I can't say much negative about the experience there. There was also champagne or something non-alcoholic on the house because of my birthday. Aug 9, 2024

A great place for a walk and sightseeing

We had the tomahawk chop. The meat was tender, juicy and subtly well seasoned. The fries were crispy and fluffy with regular salt (not that nasty seasoned salt that drowns out everything), the vegetables were perfectly seasoned to dente and underline the taste. Everything was hot when it was served and completely fresh. The napkins were made of high quality material. The staff was friendly, attentive and accommodating. The ambience outside on wooden benches is pleasant.

One of the waitresses made us feel unwelcome. She seemed annoyed, listless and hardly spoke to us. We definitely won't be coming back, the service was incredibly unfriendly.

We were there on the Rhine in flames on August 10, 2024. I wanted to surprise my family and chose the Pegelhaus. My aunt was in tears when we were brought to our table, which was a beautiful place with a great view of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. We got a bottle of water and four secco drinks for free as a welcome drink. Now we continued with the meal, we really liked and enjoyed the starter plate. The main course was grilled salmon, steak, bratwurst, etc. We chose salmon and rump steak, which was also very good, only the salads, well, they weren't good, we didn't like them. The dessert was delicious again, could have been more can be. The service was super nice and friendly, always asking if everything was satisfactory. The fireworks and the ships right in front of us, it couldn't be better. However, I think the price of €139 per person is a bit exaggerated. The place was great, you could see everything, the service was nice but for the food ???? In my opinion, €99 would have been enough, like on the Ehrenbreitstein. The next time we book a ship again, there is a large selection of food and the price for the trip / staff / fuel prices are reasonable. However, the level house is not particularly suitable for people who are in wheelchairs or cannot walk stairs, as the toilet is upstairs. The cleanliness of the stairs up there and the toilet wasn't particularly good, it could be worth checking to see if everything was OK. But we'll come back and try it out when there's no event and we'll see what it's like.

Service was super nice and attentive, thank you for that, the ambience and organization at Rhein in Flammen was also great.... Unfortunately, the kitchen failed completely. I don't know how you manage to serve such a bad burger. McDonalds/Burgerking would have been even better...

Alles war gut, wir hatten einen schönen Platz, Service sehr nett, Essen war geschmackvoll, Aber leider saßen wir auf Pallettenmöbel ohne Sitzkissen und Rückenlehne. So schnell waren wir auch wieder weg. Es war daher ein schöner aber auch bißchen unangenehmer Aufenthalt.

Great place, great view right in the Rhine with a view of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, plus the excursion boats. We (company party) sat outside at cozy wooden benches and tables in great weather. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. Most of the time it went quickly. The menu isn't overloaded, but that's a good thing. The quality of the food is very good, but the prices are very high (also due to the local location). You can't afford it every day. The appetizer platter (served on a wooden board) in particular is overpriced. I had the very tasty Black Angus Burger (24 €) with potato chips and good aioli (homemade). Plus fresh local Königsbacher Pils (but €6 for half a liter). Nice evening with a reservation for 3 hours (we were there on Friday for the "Rhine in Flames" weekend).

Beautiful view, delicious and cozy, although all the tables are occupied and not noisy. A free table was found even without prior reservation, but it was on a weekday. Friendly staff, nice pleasant girls. I took off a star because we were passing through Koblenz and my mobile internet stopped working, so I asked for the Wi-Fi password to view the route, and they refused, saying that it is not for guests, but only for employees. Well, so... it's like refusing a glass of water...

Food was always of excellent quality, family atmosphere.. View speaks for itself.. we hope to be able to visit the Pegelhaus again soon.

Our visit to the level house today was simply perfect! Great ambience with a view of the Rhine and the castle, delicious Aperol Spritz, Lillet Berry and beer and the food was really delicious. A big compliment also to the nice ladies from the service. All thumbs up. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Charging 9 euros for 1 piece of cheesecake (not even baked) is outrageous and a small cup of coffee is 4 euros. And the cleanliness inside leaves a lot to be desired. No thanks for such prices.

Die Außentische sind etwas rustikal, beim Herrichten hätten man ruhige die Blüten von den Bänken fegen können. Der Service ist gut und freundliche. Der Besuch hat uns alles in allem gut gefallen.

Schönes Ambiente direkt am Rhein. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet, gute Qualität und hübsch angerichtet. Besonders lecker war die Vorspeise „Brot und Oliven“ - hat voll unseren Geschmack getroffen. Das Personal immer aufmerksam und freundlich. Preis- Leistungsverhältnis stimmt. Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Abend, vielen Dank dafür!
