Muggel in Düsseldorf

Muggel is one of the most authentic and cozy pubs in Düsseldorf for me. It's been a regular haunt in Oberkassel for decades. The food is also highly recommended.

Once a Muggle, always a Muggle. Great restaurant, friendly service. Good food. Great atmosphere.

Nice location and delicious cake, but the waitress seemed quite unwilling. When I asked why, she said she was focused. I think she should focus on the customers instead. It would be better to have self-service there than a waitress.

We arrived spontaneously with four people and were not disappointed. The breakfast was simply fantastic – there was absolutely nothing missing (a large selection of sausages, cheese, ham, and sweets). Everything arrived quite quickly, too. The staff were simply friendly and accommodating – simply fantastic!!! The value for money is completely average for what was served. We will definitely be back – highly recommended!

Disgusting. Absolutely unacceptable service by short older waiter with dark hair. From the start, he was absolutely unfriendly, no service and social skills, disrespectful towards costumers, constantly in a bad mood, no smile, no politeness. We’ve been there for few hours, ordered different drinks and without even finishing the drinks, he told us to leave without any reason while other people were still sitting. We didn’t even finish our drinks and he was discriminating us without any reason. He didn’t even want to bring us our order, but we had to stand up and bring it ourselves to our table. We were dressed nicely and acted politely. We moved to Oberkassel and heard about this little bar, but we never expected to see such trash service. Extremely dissatisfied. This short man should be replaced by friendly, nice, kind person with service experience.

Yes. I've been going there since it opened (late 1970s?) and have always been satisfied.

A nice place in itself and relatively good food, but unfortunately, only the regulars are treated well here. An older gentleman who always greeted his regulars warmly and showed them favoritism treated us like scum, even though we were extremely friendly. We asked for a drink, but when we asked, he turned away and did nothing. He was listless and disparaging towards us. Then he went on to complain to the regulars about the "annoying customers with special requests." Okay, if you need it... the younger colleague with a light beard was extremely nice and saved the experience. He brought us, luckily also the food, which was really good. It's a shame that they classify it here, although we're happy to tip generously if the service is good.

Bad and unfriendly service, cafe nothing special, not recommended

The place is always busy and popular – a real meeting place. But the fun unfortunately stops when it comes to the food. In the salad with chanterelles, which cost a whopping €22.00, I found only a quarter of a tomato, apart from the overcooked chanterelles and a few lettuce leaves. What a disgrace, no herbs, nothing. The lady at the next table gave me some of her sauce – she had ordered it specially because she apparently didn't like her salad either. I'm definitely not going there for dinner again.

An institution in beautiful Düsseldorf's Oberkassel district. A simple, lively bar paired with authenticity, friendliness, and delicious food. I'm here every two weeks and love the hustle and bustle. Friendly people, including the owner, and a house drink (Mugellino) will make your stay more enjoyable. Tip: Wednesdays are cocktail nights with fair prices 👌

The ambiance is cozy and the service is friendly. We were seated fairly quickly without a reservation. The food deserves a negative point. I was a bit disappointed with the oriental breakfast, as there was no sucuk salami on the plate, as stated on the menu; instead, it turned out to be a regular salami, which was a bit spicier. The plate itself could have been presented a bit more charmingly, and the hard-boiled egg didn't really fit the oriental breakfast.

Very tasty food with top service highly recommended

I had the truffle pasta there for lunch. The food was delicious, the service and the kitchen were very prompt, considering the lunch rush, and we had a good seat.

Okay, it's been one of the trendy spots in fashionable Oberkassel (for decades?), but it's still fun to stop by! I especially like the generous breakfast, especially early when there aren't too many guests. It's a real treat, and the atmosphere is simply fun!

Perhaps the nicest cafe and not only in the area, with particularly nice people and staff.

A colleague at work recommended this café to me. While it's not a HP restaurant, it has a very nice atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food. However, you should make a reservation if possible, as it gets really busy. I'd love to come back :)

Delicious Breakfast Spot, highly Recommend Muggel! We had breakfast at Muggel in Düsseldorf and loved it! We tried the oriental breakfast, the omelette, the English breakfast, and the pancakes. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully served. The portions were generous, and the quality was excellent. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. A great place to start your day, highly recommended!

Very tasty food and a really good Aperol.

The food is always beautifully prepared and tastes really great. A great breakfast and lunch menu. Price for the quality? Too little is taken from the guest. Could be 1-2 euros more depending on the dish. I don't want to complain though :). The waitresses are always warm and accommodating. Thank you:)

Highlight is definitely their outdoor seating but it can be a bit chaotic on busy weekend days. Food options not that extensive for a brunch spot. Plus they stop serving proper food COMPLETELY after 2or 3pm. Service can be a hit or miss depending on who you get as your server 😅 Not my favorite crowd but this is highly individual 😛 If you have nowhere else to hang out in on a Sunday afternoon, this is not a bad option 😇

I've been to the café several times for breakfast and I'm thrilled: rich dishes with a wide selection and the possibility of combinations upon request. Very friendly staff too. But above all, I am impressed by the atmosphere: in the already beautiful Oberkassel, the location has a relaxed style, a chilled atmosphere that reminds me of many a student café and consciously stands out from all the jazzed-up event bars. Highly recommended!

Nice coffee in the center of Oberkassel. Always nice to have a coffee there and something to eat.

Probably the most overrated store in all of Düsseldorf. The food is rather low and simple. The service was arrogant, clumsy and not particularly attentive. It's absolutely okay that there are mostly older men there, but the young girls, who are often quite uneducated and heavily made up, should better look for their own kind. Otherwise, see and be seen, as so often in Düsseldorf

Regarding the food: Unfortunately, it wasn't as varied as hoped. My sandwich was quite dry overall. My husband had a fried egg on bread, and the only side dish was two small pickles and half a mini tomato. For the price, you'd expect a bit more fresh side dish or salad and a sauce. Regarding the service: There's nothing to complain about here; the staff were friendly. We were able to sit down without a reservation. Regarding the ambiance: We sat by the window, I on a bench with my back to the outside, and my husband on a stool looking out. Next to us were two other guests who were having an incredibly loud conversation, playing a video on their phones with sound. Then the woman next to me, who was also sitting on the bench, kept shaking her entire body so much that the entire bench shook continuously. Of course, when you go to a public restaurant or bistro, there will be other guests there talking. These two, however, were noticeably very disruptive, which is why I wish the staff had made a statement about it (hence one star deducted for service). Furthermore, one of the tables by the window was reserved. The guests with reservations arrived, but there was still no table available. The two disruptive guests next to us said they would pay, but then chatted with the waitress for so long and stayed seated, continuing to chat, that we paid quickly and left so the other guests could sit down. This was, for one, poor organization. If I have a reservation, I don't really want to have to chase away other guests, and here, too, the behavior of the guests next to us was extremely rude. This experience, along with the mediocre food, left a bad impression on us. And please, this bench by the window urgently needs to be made wobbly.

I went here with my girls and this place did not disappoint me at all. I just loved everything about this place, it is just worth going here. The French toast with fruits is just out of the world. I’m surely gonna take my husband here to make him taste the food here. The staff(waiters) are English speaking so that is a plus

Unbeatable price for Düsseldorf - The two of us shared the big breakfast and each got a hot drink and together we stayed just under €20. Great for a delicious breakfast, great selection of cold cuts, cozy atmosphere, very friendly waiter! Happy to come back :)

Muggle is an institution. I have been visiting the café since 1979 when I was still a student. Here you can chat wonderfully with hot cocoa or a cold beer, along with a little something to eat. There also used to be the uncomfortable, famous basement cinema, which unfortunately has turned off the projector since Corona. It's a shame actually.

The breakfast is still good. The staff was inflexible today with a larger group (8 people), seemed irritable and was very rude. The mood was tense. Relaxation factor = 0. Been there for the third time. Could have been the last time.

Although I am from Düsseldorf, yesterday on Tuesday January 14th, 2025 I was in this Loksl with a friend who often comes there. And I can share your enthusiasm. The service staff were very attentive and quick. It was full and yet our food came quite quickly and hot. However, a reservation is recommended. I would go back at any time. A wonderful evening with delicious food in a cozy, rustic atmosphere.

You should definitely make a reservation here in advance for breakfast outside, as the great breakfast is popular. And that's no wonder! The breakfast is a hit! There is everything your heart desires, from breakfast with everything you can think of, appetizingly prepared, to pancakes, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, sandwiches, etc. The service is very nice. The prices are more than reasonable for what you get. An absolute recommendation!

To share we had bruschetta, then chicken masala and veal liver with salad. Everything wonderful and with delicious sauces. Best service and fair prices for the wine too.

The service is unacceptable and extremely disrespectful, exactly what Germany has achieved because money (cheap staff from abroad) is the only thing that counts instead of good quality. The Café/Bar Muggel in Düsseldorf impresses with an excellent breakfast menu and varied, delicious evening cuisine. Particularly noteworthy are the carefully prepared dishes and the large selection of good drinks. The service is extremely courteous and friendly, which makes the stay even more pleasant. The location and good connections make the Muggle an ideal meeting place at any time of the day. A real insider tip for connoisseurs!

Very nice location, great breakfast, delicious other dishes, friendly and attentive staff. Small drawback. Every now and then there are dog owners who let their dogs bark incessantly, which disrupts conversations.

Review update: Unfortunately, things have gotten even worse here! The bread with the delicious dip was only served almost at the end of the main course today and then I didn't need it anymore. The main course pork medallions with truffle sauce was unfortunately also a joke!! Hardly any meat on the plate and it's really tough!! The truffle sauce also had significantly less flavor than usual. It's a shame to see this downward spiral from my point of view!! The food here is always really tasty and looks very appetizingly prepared. You can always really look forward to it. The lightly toasted bread with the delicious dip is also just great!! The ambience invites you to linger, if it weren't for the smokers, especially those with pipes. Unfortunately, the tables are sooooo close together that you have to allow yourself to be completely smoked. When asked about this by the staff, unfortunately they didn't do anything. It's better to lose non-smoking customers than to "put a smoker in his place"!! What a shame!!!! Update #3! Now guaranteed the LAST experience in this store!! Here you really seem to live the clichés that people say about the Oberkassel district!! This, it seems to me, with complete conviction and satisfaction! I wanted to eat there again today, even though I've often had very bad experiences recently. Because the food, you should be careful, is really good and tasty there! Unfortunately, you don't even get to enjoy the delicious food because the waitress is trying hard to drive away the customer as best as possible. When I wanted to sit down at a table at 11:58 a.m. that was reserved for 1:30 p.m., the waitress there immediately chased me away because the guests would be arriving very soon. To be honest, I didn't want to spend 1.5 hours there for my lunch break, I just wanted to eat and go back to the office. When I found a seat that wasn't reserved, I was astonished to hear the waitress gossiping about me to her colleague. When I then wanted to speak to the managing director, she suddenly identified herself as the managing director. Unfortunately, insight wasn't a plan and I was rather expelled from the store with the remark that they had enough customers and didn't have to rely on everyone. From my point of view, a very interesting statement, which makes me really ask myself whether there are really that many customers who let everything be done to them!?

A cozy place to relax. Good and plentiful breakfast, highly recommended. Seeing and being seen is very important here. Good, interesting audience. Don't be afraid to contact people, humanity is the order of the day here. The staff is friendly and quick to process. Tip, so you don't get disappointed, it's better to make a reservation.

Sunday brunch with sparkling wine is exactly my meal!

Service unprofessional, slow and inattentive. With the terrace half full, we had to wait 20 minutes for service and were then served rudely. To top it all off, the 1/4 full glass was simply cleared away.

We ate a salad with goat cheese and a burrata with tomatoes and potato chips very late last night. Salad and burrata were very tasty. The potato chips were made from thick slices of potato and complemented the meal very well. At the end we just treated ourselves to crème brulet and mousse au chocolate: both were very successful. The waiter often and never asked unpleasantly whether we were missing anything. Very well done!
