A great selection of East African dishes in Alt-Sachsenhausen. We enjoyed the mixed platter for two. We were particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant, the tables and the menu. Keep it up!

Beautiful restaurant and the friendliest waiters in all of Frankfurt. The food and especially the African crafted beer are really great! I'll come back every time I'm in town :)

It was the second time in FFM and of course I had to go to Mommona again. And just like the first time, I was absolutely thrilled with everything! The food was once again incredibly tasty, the atmosphere was beautiful, fantastic beer/wine... but what makes this restaurant stand out and put everyone in the shade is the service... I have never experienced better staff. So friendly and warm💜

Wow. After a long travel day the last thing I wanted to think about was the hunt for vegan food. Just a short walk around the area and I stumbled across here. They instantly sat me down! The staff was friendly and fast. They offered recommendations as well. I had the vegan mixed plate and when it came they offered to teach me how to properly eat it (though I was familiar and didn’t need help so I simply thanked them). They continued to check on me which is not always common in German service. The food was quick to arrive and came with a side of all the spices and salt to accommodate people’s spice tolerance, it was absolutely delicious and hot. The decor was authentic African artwork and the ambience was lovely as well (they light a candle for your table). While some may say it is a bit pricier, it was not a regrettable decision to enjoy their food whatsoever. I felt as though I got exactly what I paid for. I also tried the vegan dessert and it’s a fair portion but my only complaint is that I would’ve wanted even more. Definitely food for any weather as well. If you’re looking to get good African food or maybe try something new. I would recommend this place. Thank you so much for your service. They also spoke English as well at the establishment. May have to go back everyday of my trip to Frankfurt.

Het was de eerste keer dat wij in een echt Afrikaans restaurant hebben gegeten en dat is ons goed bevallen. Het was een aangename verassing en na na twee avonden apfelwein restaurants een fijne afwisseling. Het restaurant is sfeervol ingericht en je zit er ruim. De medewerkers zijn vriendelijk en behulpzaam. We kozen voor twee “probeplatten “ voor twee personen; een vega en een vlees, beiden bestaand uit verschillende gerechten van de kaart. Het eten wordt fraai opgediend in grote schalen met een soort brood , het eten doe je met je handen, je rolt het vlees, de groenten en andere gerechten in het brood en eet het zo op. Het was allemaal erg lekker en zeker voor herhaling vatbaar. Onze zoon bestelde bier en dat werd geschonken in een schaaltje en dat moest je dus met twee handen drinken . Erg leuk en lekker. Ook de huisgemaakte limonade smaakte goed. De yoghurt na was ook een succes.

The best African food in FFM and super nice waitresses/owners. Be sure to try the tasting platters either vegan or with meat, both are great! The four of us went to Mommona for the first time today. We would give 10* if possible! It was a perfect match. Food great, service incredibly nice!!! We will be back. Thank you for the lovely evening.

The food was a bit spicy for me but my father loved the meal. We had one meal for two (we were not too hungry) it was really good. The service was so kind and helpful woth everything. We sat outside bc of the nice weather but inside it could have been even better (beautiful african interior). We for sure recomend.

This used to be my favourite place in entire Germany. But this evening got ruined when the waiter brought us bill, without the discount that we were entitled to (the fork summer festival, if it's such a problem that people use it, please don't participate in the program). When I asked for it, he came back with a bill which included discount only for 6 instead of 8 plates that we ordered and even after excessive explanations, he still insisted that it's not their mistake and it's correct. Overall, food was amazing, service was after all great and we had really lovely evening, but this situation at the end spoiled everything.

It was a very welcome treat for the subsequent group game against Switzerland 🇨🇭. Chicken with couscous. I thought it was a little too spicy, which doesn't affect the 5 stars. The staff is great as is the restaurant.

We ended up over the gourmet block at Mommona. When we entered the restaurant we were impressed by the great decor, which seemed very authentic to us. The waitress was incredibly friendly and later even opened the door for us as we were leaving the restaurant and escorted us out. As a starter we had the Sambusa (4 fried dumplings) and as a main course the tasting platter with meat for 2 people. The dumplings were good, but we could have sat down for the main course. It was terrific - simply delicious. We also thought it was great that people here eat with their hands, as is traditional. To do this, you tear off a piece of the thin sourdough bread and use it to pick up the food (of course you can also get cutlery if you want). This was our first time eating African food here, but definitely not the last. A clear recommendation from us!

Super nice service. We were warmly welcomed and felt welcome the whole time. The food is uniquely delicious. We had the sample platter with meat and every dish was really good. And the location is really nice too. Everything is consistent and clean. This was our second time and we'll be back.

Super nice restaurant in the middle of Sachsenhausen. The food is excellent and the staff are incredibly nice. The vegetarian platter is highly recommended, although you can't go wrong with your choice of food as everything is really outstanding :). The various types of African beer are also highly recommended.

The restaurant has a traditional and very nice interior design, with very comfortable seating. The staff is very helpful at the selection of the meals and the serving of the food is made in a ceremony, which is very cool and joyful. We felt very welcomed and the food was very good and healthy. They have a spectacular vegan meal with lentils and tomato sauce. The homemade spices are very good.

The food was bad and the food that was on the menu was seven different meats. We ordered a mixed one and unfortunately we have three types plus vegetables and we said beforehand we wanted all seven different plates and out came. It wasn't tasty and the salad was bad

Das Essen ist gut und ausreichend. Das Restaurant ist eng, sehr laut, vorallem wenn größere Gruppen anwesend sind. Das Ambiente entspricht einer in die Jahre gekommene Wirtschaft. Das afrikanische Feeling kommt auch nicht durch die wenigen an den Wänden hängenden afrikanischen Masken rüber. Es ist alles sehr in die Jahre gekommen und war sicher mal eine schöne hessische Wirtschaft. Jetzt eben afrikanischen Restaurant. Zudem war das Restaurant im Januar sehr, sehr kalt. Darüber haben sich mehrere Gäste sich beklagt. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich. Man kann hingehen.

Das erste Mal afrikanisch gegessen und wir waren sehr begeistert!!!! Toller und sehr freundlicher Service. Wie hatten die Probierplatte mit Fleischgerichten für 2 Personen und waren sehr begeistert. Total lecker 😋. Die Gerichte werden mit den Fingern gegessen. Hierzu reißt man etwas vom dünnen Brot (Injera) ab und nimmt die Speise mit dem Brot auf um sie zu essen. Das Mangobier ist der Wahnsinn und wird traditionell aus der Schale getrunken.

Den hervorragenden Bewertungen ist nichts hinzuzufügen. Leckeres Essen, nettes Ambiente und ausnahmslos freundliche, herzliche aber nie aufdringliche Mitarbeiter. Tolles Gesamtpaket und ausnahmslos zu empfehlen!

Das Essen hier war sehr lecker. Es ist such immer wieder ein besonderes Erlebnis das Essen mit den Fingern, zu sich zu nehmen. Man kann sogar mit mehreren Persomen von einer Platte essen. Ei e Reservierung ist am Wochende sehr zu empfehlen, weil das Restaurant gut besucht ist.

What a vibe! Delicious food, friendly & welcoming staff and a wonderful atmosphere. They accommodated us even though our online booking had an error and didn’t go through. We had the meat share plate for two paired with a South African Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 👌 the food was incredible and a great portion and the wine was paired perfectly - thanks for the recommendation! We will definitely be back to share this experience with friends!

It's different. Meals are served African stye, i.e. no cutlery. It's both an adventure in taste and culture. Loved the meal, service and the time taken to explain it all to us. Well worth a visit. It's an experience that you will value.

Easily the best food I've had in Germany. So delicious, so flavorful. The Asmara beer was good too. I've been in Germany two weeks, and I've missed that delicious spiced flavor. I'm vegetarian so maybe that's why Germany hasn't been feeding me so well so far, but wow, this food was really good. Highly recommend

Via the Fork hebben we bij dit restaurant uitstekend gegeten. Het is Oost Afrikaans restaurant met heerlijke verrassende gerechten. Fantastische bediening in leuke sfeer. Dit is zeker een aanrader en we komen hier zeker een keer terug.

Eine sehr sympathische Bedienung in angenehmer Atmosphäre. Leider hat uns dass Essen nicht geschmeckt, eine Auswahl verschiedener Gerichte, welche in einem Korb serviert wurde und mit einer Art Pancake mit der Hand aufgenommen wird. Es war verschiedene Häufchen von Fleisch, gefühlt hat alles ähnlich geschmeckt und leider nicht unseres. Die Linsensuppe als Vorspeise war allerdings sehr schmackhaft. Die Vorspeise meiner Begleitung war fast das gleiche wie im Hauptgang, eine Empfehlung etwas anderes zu bestellen wäre da hilfreich gewesen.

A nice location in Sachsenhausen. The Restuarant combines the charm of an old building with eastern-african artifacts to create a unique surrounding. We had Injera with beef on a tomato sauce, beef and ocra on tomato sauce and beef and lamb with peppers and onions. As a appetizer we ordered vegetarian and meat samosas. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. For the kids the tomato sauces were a bit on the hot side, but they also served yoghurt with it. People are really nice there and service is impeccible. We will come back next time we are in Frankfurt.

Wir sind aufgrund der tollen Bewertungen ins Mommona gegangen und haben es nicht bereut. Wir hatten keinen Tisch reserviert und obwohl das Lokal voll war, wurden wir herzlich empfangen. Das Restaurant ist wunderschön dekoriert und die beiden Mitarbeiter verbreiten mit ihrer ehrlichen und fröhlichen Art eine tolle Atmosphäre. Man fühlt sich rundum wohl und willkommen. Wir bestellten die vegane Probierplatte für zwei und waren begeistert. Die verschiedenen Gerichte schmeckten nicht nur super lecker, sondern wurden auch sehr schön präsentiert. Wir kommen definitiv wieder!

Das Essen war super, die Chefin mit ihrer ruhigen Art sehr sympathisch. Das Lokal ist im übrigen sehr cool eingerichtet. Wäre ich in Frankfurt zuhause, würde ich hier regelmäßig vorbeischauen. Doch als Österreicher, der hier auf seiner Fernwanderung durch Deutschland Station machte, bleibt mir nur, mich daheim in Wien nach ähnlich guten Lokalen umzusehen.

Zum ersten Mal bewusst Afrikanisch gegessen und sehr begeistert. Einen besonderen Touch bekommt das Essen auch, weil man kein Besteck bekommt und die diversen Gerichte mit Hilfe von crêpe-artigen Fladen mit der Hand isst. Die Bedienung war sehr herzlich und um unser Wohl besorgt. Hier erfährt man das echte Bemühen, den Gast glücklich zu sehen, auch wenn es mit der Sprache, dem sofortigen Verständnis oder dem Wissen über Details (zB Zutaten) nicht immer sofort klappt.

Der Service ist freundlich und bemüht (schlechte deutsche Sprachkenntnisse) den Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu gestalten. Die Atmosphäre wirkt, wenn das Lokal gefüllter ist, sehr angenehm (waren mit einem Pärchen die einzigen Gäste). Die Speisekarte ist relativ übersichtlich aber sehr lecker. Speisen werden frisch zubereitet und man muss etwas Zeit mitbringen. Alles in allem kann ich das Lokal empfehlen.

1,20 h aufs Essen gewartet. Das war anstrengend. Dafür war es echt lecker. Und der Service ist sehr nett.

First life experience in an african restaurant and super positive. The location is easy to access and the environment inside is well furnished with and african look. Comfortable space and not loud, good for conversations. The restaurant was not full so we were served quickly. We ordered vegetarian and meat mains combined with the traditional bred, interesting. We ate with hands (no cutleries in the tradition) and it was so much. Also tried Mango beer served in a special "glass" made out of a pumpkin. Good portions for a fair price, must try.
