Wer die echte afrikanische Küche erleben möchte, ist hier genau richtig! Das Essen schmeckt unglaublich frisch, ist perfekt gewürzt und die Portionen sind absolut fair. Der Service ist überragend freundlich und die Atmosphäre total gemütlich.wir freuen uns schon aufs nächste Mal!

Muss man mal gewesen sein. Warum hier manche Bewertungen keine 5 Sterne haben, verstehe ich nicht. Das ist afrikanische Küche, mal anders als deutsches Schnitzel oder italienische Nudeln. Auch mit den Fingern zu essen, gehört dazu. Einfach mal machen :) Essen gut, Service gut, Ambiente schön. Fanden wir super!

Dies ist ein fantastisches Restaurant in Frankfurt, in dem man authentische äthiopische und eritreische Küche genießen kann. Ich habe es zum ersten Mal probiert, aber das Hauptgericht „Injera“ hat eine einzigartige Säure und ist, zusammen mit verschiedenen Wat-Gerichten (Eintöpfen), unglaublich lecker und macht süchtig. Am meisten überrascht hat mich das Passionsfruchtbier „Dju Dju“. Das fruchtige Aroma harmoniert perfekt mit den würzigen Gerichten. Es war auch optisch sehr ansprechend und trug zu einem wunderbaren Erlebnis bei, in eine andere Kultur einzutauchen. Das Personal war freundlich, und ich komme auf jeden Fall gerne wieder. Ein fantastischer Ort in Frankfurt, um authentische äthiopische und eritreische Küche zu genießen. Das Essen war sehr lecker und wurde schnell vom freundlichen Service serviert. Preis-Leistung ist gut. Das Restaurant war am Samstagabend sehr gut besucht, man sollte reservieren. Ich fand es gemütlich. Lobenswert ist auch, dass man sich gut zu unterhalten konnte. Es war nicht sehr laut.

Es ist wie eine Reise nach Eritrea! Die Atmosphäre ist warm und einladend, dank des überaus freundlichen Personals. Die Gerichte sind ein wahres Geschmackserlebnis, und die Erfahrung war durchweg positiv. Die Buchung über The Fork hat uns zudem Geld gespart. Absolut empfehlenswert.

Super gemütliches kleines Restaurant mit richtig toller Einrichtung – schon beim Reinkommen wird man von den leckeren Gewürzdüften empfangen, das macht direkt Lust aufs Essen. Wir hatten eine Platte für zwei Personen, perfekt zum Durchprobieren verschiedener Gerichte. Das Essen war insgesamt sehr lecker, das Fleisch größtenteils auch gut – einige Stücke waren allerdings etwas zäher als andere. Der Service war wirklich freundlich und aufmerksam, es wurde auch zwischendurch nachgefragt, ob alles in Ordnung ist, was ich immer sehr schätze. Ein kleiner Pluspunkt: Auch für Veganer gibt es passende Optionen, sodass wirklich jeder etwas findet. Ein kleiner Minuspunkt für mich persönlich: Ich hätte gerne Fufu probiert, aber das stand leider nicht auf der Karte. Da hätte ich vorher besser schauen sollen – mein Fehler. Alles in allem ein süßes, kleines Lädchen mit gutem Essen und angenehmer Atmosphäre. Gerne wieder!

Wir haben das Restaurant schon öfters besucht. 2024 haben wir tatsächlich ein Bild von der gleichen Platte gemacht, die wir letzte Woche dort gegessen haben. Die Portionen haben sich für zwei halbiert und der Preis hat sich leider fast verdoppelt. Das Essen war ausgezeichnet und hat sehr lecker geschmeckt, aber wir waren schon ein bisschen enttäuscht. Wir gehen regelmäßig essen und uns ist doch klar, dass alles teurer geworden ist, aber hier stimmt die Relation leider nicht mehr.

Ich bin durch die App Empfehlung „The Fork“ auf Mommona aufmerksam geworden. Wir waren am Samstagabend als Paar zum Essen hier. Der Service war herzlich-freundlich und das Essen war sehr lecker. Bei der Bestellung gab es einen Kommunikationsfehler, denn wir dachten die gemischte Vorspeisenplatte und 2 Hauptgerichte bestellt zu haben. Die Vorspeise wurde jedoch nicht registriert und wir haben direkt die Hauptspeise erhalten. Da beide Hauptspeisen zusammen in einer Schüssel serviert wurden, dachten wir noch, das sei die Vorspeisenplatte, zumal hier viele kleine Leckereien wie in einer gemischten Platte enthalten waren. In Anbetracht der Menge an Essen und dem Glauben das sei erst die Vorspeise haben wir uns schon auf ein ordentliches Doggybag eingestellt und sind mit dem Fladenbrot sehr zurückhaltend umgegangen um noch etwas Platz im Magen für die Hauptspeise zu lassen 😅. Nach längerer Wartezeit und Nachfrage klärte sich die Situation mit einem Lachen auf. Mithilfe der Nachspeise konnten wir dann auch komplett gesättigt und glücklich den Abend beschließen.

All the dishes were fresh, top quality, and incredibly tasty, and you could immediately tell that the kitchen staff put a lot of love and skill into their cooking. Mommona exceeded all my expectations: the dishes were authentic, beautifully presented, and incredibly flavorful – I tried some specialties with traditional injera bread, and everything was delicious. The atmosphere was warm and tastefully decorated, making the experience truly special. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, patiently explaining the menu to someone discovering these flavors for the first time. We were absolutely thrilled! We had the mixed platter for starters, followed by the tasting platter with meat and vegan specialties, and finished with three different desserts. Since we have different eating habits (three omnivores, two vegetarians, and one who was craving fish yesterday), we ordered three different platters. I ordered the mixed meat platter without fish with my boys. The food: The food was simply delicious! The platter really filled us up, the portion size was perfect. As big fans of Eritrean cuisine, I have to say: It was once again absolutely outstanding. I also tried the fish, which was absolutely outstanding. Especially compared to our last visit to "In the Heart of Africa," where we were really disappointed, this was a real hit. Service and organization: We called an hour in advance and made a reservation, and it went smoothly. The reception was super nice and friendly, our table was nice and had enough space for all of us. The service was really fast, and the wait time was perfectly timed—not too long, but also not so fast that you had to worry 😉. You could tell that the food here is cooked with love. Conclusion: I highly recommend Mommona in Alt-Sachsenhausen! Super delicious food, great staff, fast service, and a beautifully decorated shop. A well-deserved 5 stars! My husband and I are visiting Frankfurt from Australia. We found this little restaurant and thought we would give it a try. Fantastic service atmosphere was great. Food was delicious we have never tried African food. It was a beautiful restaurant full of many African decorations. We will come again next time we are in Germany.

My girlfriend and I spontaneously ended up at Mommona one Sunday evening, and it couldn't have been a better choice. The outdoor area in Alt-Sachsenhausen immediately invites you to linger with its charming flair, while the interior impresses with its stylish ambiance, loving details, and absolutely spotlessly clean restrooms. The menu is a true discovery and offers an impressive selection for both vegans and meat lovers. We opted for a mixed platter, and every single dish was a hit. The aromatic spinach and tender lamb were particularly memorable. Even my girlfriend, who doesn't normally eat lamb, was completely thrilled. The wine selection also leaves nothing to be desired. The robust, perfectly tempered red wine (Cheraz) and the fresh, balanced Sauvignon Blanc are real highlights and harmonize wonderfully with the dishes. The service was simply first-class, warm, attentive, and with palpable passion for what they do. This complete package of cuisine, ambiance, and hospitality completely won us over. It was fun eating with you. I just want to offer a little constructive criticism: The menu! The menu doesn't reflect what you are. It's a menu that you get everywhere else (in every German restaurant). It would be more fun to browse through a menu that reflects Africa. Nature and wilderness! A wooden cover, the individual pages made of real paper, or pictures from Africa as a "watermark." Somehow more you!

Pretty good Ethiopian place. Portions were on the small side, especially when it comes to meat. We sat outside so it took a lot of time to order something. But the food was on point, and so was the Injera was delicious.

Mommona truly impressed us with its authentic cuisine! The tasting platter was diverse, freshly prepared, and beautifully presented. The samosas with various fillings were varied and very successful. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive – so personal and honest that you can tell someone here really puts their heart into their work. The homemade lemonades and iced teas were beautifully presented and tasted truly delicious. You can tell that the work here is done with passion and dedication. I was at Mommona last Tuesday. The "Mommona Meat Tasting Platter" was delicious and included a nice selection of different dishes. The Dju Dju passion fruit beer was also very tasty. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice and comfortable; you feel at home there. If I come back to Frankfurt, I will definitely stop here again.

Last Saturday, a group of seven of us ate at Mommona. There wasn't a single person at our table who wasn't impressed by the wide variety of flavors, whether meat or vegan. I've also rarely experienced such welcoming and warm service. It was my first time in an African restaurant, although I learned that not all Africa is created equal when it comes to cuisine. This is logical, considering the size of the continent. That said, I will definitely visit this very restaurant again and can only recommend it to everyone. In summary, it gets full marks for taste, value for money, and service.

Eating at Mommona was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Zlzl (lamb) and Zgni Doro were incredibly aromatic, tender and prepared with so much love - I have never eaten them so well! Let's start with the best: The food is really tasty and sufficient. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but the quality is good. Now let's come to the negative: we wanted to eat there with the Schlemmerblock, but due to “too much effort” we couldn't use it. It should be mentioned that it was Valentine's Day, but there should be no restrictions.
