Black Lion äthiopische und Eritreische küche in Frankfurt am Main

Durch das Gutscheinheft sind wir auf das Lokal aufmerksam geworden und haben einen Gutschein 2:1 gekauft und gleichzeitig einen Tisch reserviert. Dort angekommen, haben wir überlegt, doch lieber zu einem anderen Lokal zu gehen. Sehr unscheinbar und nicht wirklich einladend. Den Gang ins Innere gewagt und es begegnete uns gähnende Leere. Kurz und knapp, wir wurden herzlich empfangen, sehr gut beraten und das Essen war einfach unbeschreiblich lecker. Wir haben uns sehr gut gefühlt und waren froh, diese Erfahrung gemacht zu haben. Auf jeden Fall, wir kommen wieder.

Die Gastfreundschaft war gut. Ich habe zum ersten Mal äthiopisch gegessen und es hat mir sehr gut geschmeckt. An Injera muss man sich zwar erst gewöhnen, aber die Eintöpfe sind köstlich.

Toller Service, schöne Musik und fantastisches Essen (vor allem der Lion Grill Plate).

Das Restaurant wirkt etwas unscheinbar, ist es aber wert es zu testen. Man wird bedient von einem sehr freundlichen Service, erhält authentische und sehr schmackhafte afrikanische Küche und bekommt ein super Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis!

Sehr freundlicher Service und ein wirklich liebevoll eingerichtetes und sehr sauberes Restaurant. Schöne Getränkekarte. Das Restaurant war voll besetzt, aber von der Lautstärke her kein Problem. Auch die Raumtemperatur war trotz winterlicher Außentemperatur völlig in Ordnung. Aber: Vom Essen nicht ansatzweise das, was ich von einem afrikanischen Restaurant gewohnt bin und nicht einmal entfernt das, was auf den Fotos zu den anderen Rezensionen zu sehen war. Ich hatte eine vegetarische Platte mit jeweils einem winzigen Klecks Rotkohl und Spinat und einer etwas größeren Mengen eines - vermutlich - Linsenpürees. Spinat und Rotkohl extrem trocken. Kein Salat, keine Linsen, keine Bohnen, kein Alicha - nichts. Das war das erste Mal beim Afrikaner, dass zwei Stücken Ingera ausgereicht haben und am Ende der Teller noch mit trockenem Ingera ausgelegt war. Für 16,50 Euro absolut inakzeptabel. Meiner Begleitung ging es nicht besser: Sie hatte Hack durchgebraten mit Frischkäse bestellt und bekam eine kleine Portion knochentrockenes Hack mit ein paar Krümeln Frischkäse. Abgesehen vom Ingera nichts weiter, weder Soße noch irgendeine Beilage. Wir waren wegen der guten Rezensionen gekommen, werden aber - leider - keinen zweiten Versuch machen.

Der Service war ausgesprochen gut, genauso wie das Essen. Ich kann dieses Restaurant sehr empfehlen und komme gerne wieder her.

Mein neues Lieblingslokal!!!! Supernetter Chef, so warm, so herzlich, die Beilagen bei unserer Fleischplatte für 2, einfach super köstlich. Wie bin ich froh, den Laden per Gutscheinheft entdeckt zu haben.... Außen eher unscheinbar.....wäre ich ansonsten bestimmt vorbei gegangen.....nun mein neues Highlight. Ambiente, ausnehmend guter Musikgeschmack, Service herzlich, Essen top. Was will man mehr?!

Durch B-My bin ich auf das Lokal gestoßen und wir haben es daraufhin ausprobiert. Die Einlösung des Gutscheins lief völlig unkompliziert, und der Mitarbeiter war wirklich freundlich. Das Ambiente erinnert an eine klassische deutsche Gaststätte, ergänzt durch afrikanische Bilder und ein wenig Deko, ganz nett, aber nichts Besonderes. Leider war es ziemlich kühl im Raum, und ich möchte mir gar nicht vorstellen, wie laut es wird, wenn alle Tische besetzt sind. Wir haben beide die vegane gemischte Platte bestellt. Was serviert wurde, war für den Preis jedoch enttäuschend und sehr einfallslos: rote und gelbe Linsen, Linsenbrei bzw. Soße, dazu einfache grüne Bohnen sowie Weiß- und Rotkraut, das war’s. Normalerweise gehören zu solchen Platten auch Kartoffeln, Rote Beete, Spinat, Salat, Karotten oder Gurke. Hier enttäuschenderweise nicht. Als ich dem Mitarbeiter sagte, dass die Portion viel zu klein war und ich nicht satt geworden bin, reagierte er zwar freundlich und meinte: „Dann sage ich das in der Küche, beim nächsten Mal machen wir es besser.“ Aber genau da liegt das Problem: Ich war ja jetzt hier. Ein kleiner Nachschlag hätte das Erlebnis sofort verbessert. So bleibt die Frage, warum ich überhaupt wiederkommen sollte. Geschmacklich war es in Ordnung, auch wenn das Injera ziemlich trocken war. Ohne Gutschein wäre ich ehrlich gesagt sehr enttäuscht gewesen, ich hatte einfach mehr erwartet.

Der Besitzer (?) war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Wir haben uns für die 2 Platten (vegetarisch/Mit Fleisch) jeweils für 2 Personen entschieden. Die vegetarische Platte war sehr gut, die Platte mit Fleisch war ähnlich, mit etwas (recht wenig Fleisch, das eine war Rind... Aber das andere hat keiner herausgefunden), aonsten waren die Platten 1:1 identisch. Das Injera wurde ohne Probleme gebracht und war echt Yummi. Von außen eher unscheinbar, aber von innen sehr gemütlich.

Das Restaurant war für uns eine sehr schöne Entdeckung, dank der Herbst-Schlemmerwochen 2025. Von außen unscheinbar, von innen gemütlich, in warme Farben gehüllt und mit einer angenehmen, Blues-igen, leisen Hintergrundmusik. Wir wurden sehr herzlich und warm empfangen und freundlich bedient. Das Essen war lecker, sowohl die Vorspeisen und insbesondere auch die gemischte Fleisch- und gemischte vegetarische Platte. Und reichlich. ;) Ob das Essen authentisch ist, kann ich mangels Erfahrung nicht einschätzen, auf jeden Fall war es eine angenehme Abwechslung zu den europäischen und asiatischen Küchen, die wir sonst gewohnt sind. Auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung und wir kommen bestimmt wieder. Vielen Dank an das Restaurant-Team vom 10.10.25. :)

One of the best places to try if you truly want to experience the authentic taste of Ethiopian cuisine. Although it's not located in the city center, it's definitely worth the trip for the delicious food and the warm, friendly owners.

The Black Lion was a particular highlight as it gave us the chance to try several African flavours at once, all of which were amazingly good. For us, this is the best Ethiopian restaurant we have ever been to. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend it!

The service is very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The menu offers a wide selection of different dishes, all beautifully presented and served. Everything is lovingly and noticeably homemade and, above all, super delicious! Extra bread and hot sauce are served upon request—bonus points :) We'd love to come back!

We became aware of this store through our b my voucher book and were thrilled with our visit. The service was excellent and very warm. The food came in a very short time and was extremely tasty, the portion size was also just right - neither too much nor too little. With the Black Lion Platter you get an insight into several African dishes. All of them tasted excellent - for us, the best Ethiopian we've eaten at so far. We will definitely come back and can warmly recommend the restaurant.

The visit to this restaurant was the first time when I tried Ethiopian food. I like that I had a mix of spicy and non-spicy foods in my dish. It is definitely not the type of food I am used to, given the spice taste, but it was an interesting experience. The dish I had also had meat which was very tender and well cooked. The food presentation was gorgeous, the plates were colorful and interesting. Besides, the staff is very nice.

The atmosphere was very nice. The music was at a comfortable volume. We took the mixed platter and liked the meat dishes best. The vegetarian dishes could have tasted stronger. At the end we had a delicious chocolate souflé, which was really tasty!

Hello. We were at the Black Lion Restaurant / Frankfurt-Bockenheim on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to get food for the World Cup final. We had lamb and injera and vegetables to take away for three people. The food was wonderful and delicious and very tasty. The staff at the Black Lion Restaurant is very friendly and professional.. We were very happy with the food and were able to relax and watch the World Cup final. Thank you Black Lion Restaurant for the delicious food. See you soon

After traveling for several hours, we arrived in the afternoon as the first guests of the day right when the place opened. The lady/host/cook was very nice, and even asked if we needed more Injera. They got great soda options like banana, coconut, hibiscus and more. I don't eat meat while my friend does, and both of us enjoyed the food a lot

When paying, they thought we were all foreigners and asked for cash, saying they didn't accept foreign credit cards. But we were German locals and we had German credit cards, so why not? This also doesn't work. I checked and found that they had disconnected the communication line. Because of this, I spent about 30 minutes paying. If there were no Koreans living in Germany, I would have been deceived. Even if I go to Germany again, I don't think I'll ever do it again.

Because of the previous recessions, I got food from there. And was extremely disappointed. It's not a restaurant but a pub and the food was accordingly. The chicken must have been at least a day old and it tasted as if I had just warmed up the leftovers. Totally loveless… What a shame!

We came across the restaurant, which looks inconspicuous from the outside, by chance through a voucher app and first of all: we were thrilled! The owner was really super friendly and gave us detailed advice, which was necessary because I like spicy food and my girlfriend doesn't. With the help of the advice we chose two great meals, consisting of a sourdough flatbread and tartar-like lightly fried minced meat, which was really well seasoned. My friend received a meal that was fried at the table with an open flame, which was also very tasty! Overall, it was an experience and for a long time I had the feeling that I had tried something completely new again. I can fully recommend the restaurant and would advise everyone not to be put off by the inconspicuous exterior!

The worst experiance. They have mice and cockroaches in the resturant and they serv with dirty cultery and the lady who work there is some what misrable and angery. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!
