Black Lion äthiopische und Eritreische küche in Frankfurt am Main

We discovered this restaurant through the Barometer book with the voucher for 2 for 1 main courses. There were four of us with two books, which wasn't a problem. The owner (?) was very friendly and attentive. We opted for the two platters (vegetarian/meat) each for two people. The vegetarian platter was very good, the meat platter was similar, with a little (quite a bit of meat, one was beef... but no one could figure out the other), otherwise the platters were identical. The injera arrived without any problems and was really delicious. Rather unassuming from the outside, but very cozy inside.

The restaurant was a wonderful discovery for us, thanks to the 2025 Autumn Gourmet Weeks. Unassuming from the outside, cozy inside, wrapped in warm colors and with pleasant, bluesy, soft background music. We received a very warm and friendly welcome and friendly service. The food was delicious, both the appetizers and especially the mixed meat and mixed vegetarian platter. And plentiful. ;) I can't judge whether the food is authentic due to my lack of experience, but it was a pleasant change from the European and Asian cuisine we're used to. Definitely a recommendation, and we'll definitely be back. Many thanks to the restaurant team on October 10, 2025. :)

Fantastic. We discovered this restaurant during Gourmet Week. Really good starter, main course, and dessert. The portions, especially the main course, are more than filling. Authentic spices. The service was very attentive. Our first African experience, but certainly not our last!

One of the best places to try if you truly want to experience the authentic taste of Ethiopian cuisine. Although it's not located in the city center, it's definitely worth the trip for the delicious food and the warm, friendly owners.

We became aware of this store through our b my voucher book and were thrilled with our visit. The service was excellent and very warm. The food came in a very short time and was extremely tasty, the portion size was also just right - neither too much nor too little. With the Black Lion Platter you get an insight into several African dishes. All of them tasted excellent - for us, the best Ethiopian we've eaten at so far. We will definitely come back and can warmly recommend the restaurant.

The visit to this restaurant was the first time when I tried Ethiopian food. I like that I had a mix of spicy and non-spicy foods in my dish. It is definitely not the type of food I am used to, given the spice taste, but it was an interesting experience. The dish I had also had meat which was very tender and well cooked. The food presentation was gorgeous, the plates were colorful and interesting. Besides, the staff is very nice.

The atmosphere was very nice. The music was at a comfortable volume. We took the mixed platter and liked the meat dishes best. The vegetarian dishes could have tasted stronger. At the end we had a delicious chocolate souflé, which was really tasty!

Hello. We were at the Black Lion Restaurant / Frankfurt-Bockenheim on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to get food for the World Cup final. We had lamb and injera and vegetables to take away for three people. The food was wonderful and delicious and very tasty. The staff at the Black Lion Restaurant is very friendly and professional.. We were very happy with the food and were able to relax and watch the World Cup final. Thank you Black Lion Restaurant for the delicious food. See you soon

After traveling for several hours, we arrived in the afternoon as the first guests of the day right when the place opened. The lady/host/cook was very nice, and even asked if we needed more Injera. They got great soda options like banana, coconut, hibiscus and more. I don't eat meat while my friend does, and both of us enjoyed the food a lot

When paying, they thought we were all foreigners and asked for cash, saying they didn't accept foreign credit cards. But we were German locals and we had German credit cards, so why not? This also doesn't work. I checked and found that they had disconnected the communication line. Because of this, I spent about 30 minutes paying. If there were no Koreans living in Germany, I would have been deceived. Even if I go to Germany again, I don't think I'll ever do it again.

Because of the previous recessions, I got food from there. And was extremely disappointed. It's not a restaurant but a pub and the food was accordingly. The chicken must have been at least a day old and it tasted as if I had just warmed up the leftovers. Totally loveless… What a shame!

We came across the restaurant, which looks inconspicuous from the outside, by chance through a voucher app and first of all: we were thrilled! The owner was really super friendly and gave us detailed advice, which was necessary because I like spicy food and my girlfriend doesn't. With the help of the advice we chose two great meals, consisting of a sourdough flatbread and tartar-like lightly fried minced meat, which was really well seasoned. My friend received a meal that was fried at the table with an open flame, which was also very tasty! Overall, it was an experience and for a long time I had the feeling that I had tried something completely new again. I can fully recommend the restaurant and would advise everyone not to be put off by the inconspicuous exterior!

Ordered food online, Uber eats for delivery. after they take payment, they tell me to come and pick up the food, very rude. I wasnt able to get the resturant, and when showed up the following the, I was meet with hostility and rudeness. I told her to keep the 20 euro and that karama is around the coner. hence why iam writing this review. WORST PLACE TO EAT IN FRANKFURT!!!!

The worst experiance. They have mice and cockroaches in the resturant and they serv with dirty cultery and the lady who work there is some what misrable and angery. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

Very inconspicuous from the outside, comfortably and invitingly furnished inside. Service impeccable. An intolerance (wheat no, spelled yes) was responded to perfectly and extra spelled flour was organized. That didn't detract from the meal. We ordered a platter for 3 people. Nicely prepared, very tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

Quiet a lovely Ethio-Eritrean restaurant. Tasty food and very friendly staff. The traditional Ethiopian coffee and the baklava with vanilla ice cream were amazing.

We had the vegan mixed platter. All I can say is very tasty! The starters (dumplings and falafel) were also very good. The decor is nice and the staff is also very friendly. I can only recommend!

Der Service in Black Lion war ausgezeichnet, die Gerichte waren reichlich, die Preise erschwinglich, und die besonderen Kaffee- und Teesorten waren ausgezeichnet. Es handelt sich um äußerst authentische äthiopische Küche. Wir werden definitiv wieder kommen.
