August 22, 2025, around 11:45 PM: Even though I ate something there, the staff told me I still had to spend an additional €1 to use the restroom (after the restroom turnstile was out of service for ages, it has now been reactivated). St. John's Eve in Mainz on June 27, 2022. According to a special notice in the branch, it's supposedly open until 1:00 AM, but in reality, it's only open until 10:00 PM due to a lack of staff. The fact that someone is correcting the incorrect opening hours seems to be overwhelming 😡. The most pathetic franchisee ever, in my personal opinion. On June 27, 2022, at 9:48 PM, ordering via the terminals is no longer possible. Instead, there's a massive backlog at the manual order acceptance point. Completely annoying, pointless, and unprofessional! Restrooms are always closed by default during events in downtown Mainz. 😡 Restrooms are closed, supposedly "unfortunately broken," the employee at the checkout counter's face mask is hanging down on his chin, takeout orders are sometimes packed with no napkins, sometimes with only a few (far too few), the screen at the checkout counter for the pickup numbers is always out of order, the terminals sometimes work and sometimes don't (no response to touch, stuck in a program loop), and they often simply close earlier than indicated on the store's opening hours sign.

Horrible place! They're threatening children with the police! Today, my daughter and her friend wanted to buy a drink for 4 euros and pay with change in 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents. They had a total of up to 40 coins. But after we waited in line and ordered a drink, the cashier saw the change and told them to step aside and wait for the manager. The manager came over and said, "This is a restaurant, leave with your change, we have a lot of people from here, or I'll call the police!" Good location, right in the center of Mainz. However, the staff was very unfriendly. I placed a large order (around €65), and they tried to squeeze everything into just two small bags. When I asked them to use more separate bags, they were visibly annoyed. I also asked if they had a larger bag with handles, but they said no and continued to behave in a rude manner.

It was much better, cleaner, and friendlier before the renovation. We ordered something at the ordering terminal and wanted table service. Plot twist: Table service is included at the terminal, but it's not available here. Prices are more expensive than at regular McDonald's stores. Therefore, I think it's become a franchise since the renovation. While looking for a seat, we discovered that almost the entire dining area was dirty. The tables hadn't been cleaned or even properly tidied. There was so much debris under most of the tables that it was no longer appetizing. Some of the benches were also smeared with dirt. When we finally found a somewhat clean table and picked up our food from the counter, despite having indicated that we were eating in, we weren't given a tablet but a takeaway bag with the words: "We don't have anything else." The numbers were also only called out by voice and were sometimes very unclear. A customer was yelled at with the words, "Food ready!" When we unpacked our burgers, my colleague discovered that a raw piece of meat had been served in his burger. When he pointed this out and asked for a new one, he was told, "It's not my problem." He had to insist on his right to a new burger. His second burger wasn't cooked all the way through either. My burger had way too much mayonnaise. When my colleague pointed out his burger, he saw a puddle of liquid in the kitchen. Workplace safety and customer service aren't exactly a top priority here. You can also read here that the employees here are very stressed. Yet there were virtually no customers. And even if you're stressed, customer service is a must in the restaurant industry and should never be neglected, especially not at large chains like McDonald's. This is an area that needs to be addressed. It's in a very good location, but in my opinion you should avoid visiting this McDonald's.

As soon as it opened the doors, I first wanted to start charging my cellphone and was met by a staff who said I couldn't even though the tables each had electric outlets. He could clearly tell I was a bike touring cyclist, but felt I was undesirable, so I left. Not sure why was I met with such attitude, but I think this embarrassing situation that I experienced shouldn't happen to no one.

Stay away from this store! A pigeon was flying around the store, and no employee felt responsible! The pigeon defecated on the tables, and we fled the store. It looked like a garbage dump; the store was maybe half full, and every table was littered with trash. The worst part, though, is that the employees saw it all, but nobody cared. The tray server even dropped something from the tray, didn't even pick it up, and just moved on. I waited 25 minutes for the food. Of course, it was cold because it had been sitting somewhere for at least 15 minutes. Never again!

2 stars – customer friendliness looks different! During Fasnacht you had to pay €1 to use the toilet - fair enough, as you received a €1 voucher that was said to be valid for 3 months. It's just a shame that McDonald's can't remember its own rules. Barely a few days later I wanted to redeem the voucher - and suddenly I was informed that it would no longer be accepted. Justification? No. Solution? Neither. Instead, just a shrug of the shoulders and an attempt to fob me off by saying that the “guidelines have changed.” Aha. And will the customer find out exactly when? When he stands at the checkout and feels like he's making a fool of himself? Honestly, if you're going to ask people to pay for going to the toilet, then you should at least stick to your own promises. Unfortunately, the whole thing only leaves the impression that people are trying to increase their own sales in a questionable way - at the expense of their customers. Conclusion: If you expect reliability and transparency, you've probably come to the wrong place.

This experience was HORRENDOUS! For context, I've visited this McDonald's just after watching a movie, so I'd say it was around 7 PM when I've arrived. First of all, half of the order screens were broken, so I was forced to either wait for a bunch of people to finish ordering or go order upfront. So that's what I did, the employees had no idea how to speak English, had to bring their chief over or something.. everything was CROWDED, so I wasn't even able to find a place to sit in, but after I've finally found a place to sit in, my food came in surprisingly quickly, but that's not something to be happy about, the bread was stale and half of the burger was on the WRAPPER! And I can't even explain how bad it tasted.. it felt like someone sprayed in hand sanitizer in my food..? The fries were cold and for some reason wet and thank god they couldn't get the Cola wrong.. P.S: DON'T GO HERE IF YOU'RE ACTUALLY HUNGRY!!

I still eat full and noisy and sometimes get cold food, but the boss of the shop is the best, he banned 1 girl from the house who was bullying someone and took my order in a very friendly way and responded to my food being warm and fresh and delivered it. We ate at this restaurant with a group of friends on March 2nd, 2025 - and we all got sick. A short time later, each and every one of us suffered from severe nausea, vomiting and fever and diarrhea. The fact that an entire group gets food poisoning at the same time is a clear sign of blatant lack of hygiene or spoiled food. It is irresponsible to put guests at such risk! We are not only disappointed but truly angry at this negligence. We hope that the restaurant takes action - and until then we can only strongly advise against eating here!

I was in this branch today on Shrove Monday and it was an absolute state of emergency. At first I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of guests and just thought to myself: How the hell can I even order now, can I find a seat and will the staff manage to prepare the food? But then I heard a roar from far away, which frightened me even more until I realized... Those two men at the checkout were simply orchestrating the chaos. You could tell they were in the right place at the right time. I was able to order quickly, got a clean seat straight away and went to the front of the food counter, still a bit scared that I would have to wait with a high blood alcohol level for the limp fries that would save me. But these two heroes taught me otherwise. They shouted 262, 263, 264, etc., as if they had been born for this very task. A confident smile on my face, my number is called: 265. A “bon appetit” and the day was saved. These two men should be cast in bronze and worshiped like heroes. The food was so-so but when I was drunk it was a blast.

The McDonald's branch at Gutenbergplatz in Mainz offers the typical fast food atmosphere that you are used to from the chain. While the selection of food and drinks can go uncommented, I would like to comment on the atmosphere and the behavior of the guests. The branch is clearly a popular meeting place for young people. This is positive in itself, but unfortunately this is often marred by loud and disruptive behavior. Unfortunately, dirty tables and leftover food lying around are not uncommon. The staff also seems to be overwhelmed by the situation, so cleaning is often careless. It is unfortunate that such a central location and the associated high frequency of guests is not accompanied by appropriate cleanliness. I hope management takes the situation seriously and takes measures to improve hygiene. An appeal to all guests: Please take your rubbish with you and leave the tables as clean as you found them. A little consideration can go a long way toward ensuring everyone enjoys their visit.

We got there with 20 minutes to “take away” food and walk to the theater parking garage. We chose, ordered and paid at the terminal for about 5 minutes. It took over 30 minutes to prepare this order. You could watch the whole time as what felt like 200 other smaller orders were being passed over. I think you probably spent 10 minutes checking at a snail's pace to make sure you didn't forget anything. Sometimes in twos and threes. Our order was a little larger, 2 menus, Happymeal, and 1-3 little things. So nothing that should throw you off track. Everything didn't seem professional. The frustration is definitely guaranteed, as a follow-up appointment had to be canceled and everything else was messed up...

Plague of pigeons!!! As a loyal and long-standing customer, I was back in your branch in Mainz, Gutenbergplatz 8-12, today. To my horror, I realized again that there were several pigeons in your branch. While I was eating one of the pigeons flew at me. Through his actions I was forced to scare them away. An employee then asked me not to do this and when I made her aware of the health risks, she suggested that I leave the branch and eat somewhere else. To put it mildly, this is more than a complete impudence to prefer visiting the pigeons instead of the customer.

I ordered via the app and once again there were “technical difficulties” so I had to go to the cashier. He said it wasn't paid for. I then showed him the debit receipt with the date and time, which was about two minutes ago. He looked at it and said, "It's not paid. Pay again." I couldn't show more than the payment confirmation, and I was still upset that a multi-billion dollar corporation couldn't manage to install a functioning cash register or develop a stable app, and that the discussion about whether my payment receipt had the current date was too stupid for me and current time is proof of payment or not. Meanwhile, the employee yelled the name of another employee into the kitchen and then disappeared. I left the store and received an email saying “Cup, outside, €0.” Strangely enough, despite the request in the email, I neither liked the cup nor was I satisfied. I just didn't get my money back and now I have to deal with PayPal.

Since my rare visits to this franchise usually have a negative outcome, I was somewhat surprised that things could go differently. The toilet was open and free of charge, the restaurant was clean, at least at first glance, and my table was wiped down. The waiting time at the checkout or for the food we ordered was minimal. The service was neutral but I think that was fine. The French fries we ordered were warm but no longer hot, as were the Big Macs. Both tasted really okay. The Fanta was cool but not so cold that your teeth hurt when you drink it. Conclusion: A positive surprise! I also liked the opportunity to sit outside.

Dirty even by McDonald's standards. Fries were well salted. They could probably spare some of that salt to clean the building.

McDonald's is good, but I won't be going back because of the parking. You get a fine if you overstay by a few minutes. Never going there again, and I won't go to the other places where they have similar options.

Slow service, no terminal. The staff doesn't wear gloves, touching the money and then immediately placing fries in the machine, touching the fries with their fingers.
