Trostloseste Currywurst ever. Dann lieber von der Karte nehmen.

Wir waren in einer Gruppe von neun Leuten unterwegs. Die Bedienung hat sofort Tische zusammengestellt und dafür gesorgt, dass wir gemeinsam Essen und trinken konnten. Alles in super freundlich. Preise waren vor allem bei der Lage wirklich günstig. Das Essen war zwar sehr einfach wirkte aber frisch und war schnell fertig .Ich war zufrieden und das Preis Leistungsverhältnis war richtig gut. Besonders bemerkenswert war aber einfach die Freundlichkeit und die Bereitschaft des Service.

Unfreundliches Personal, wir haben keine 5 Minuten Zeit bekommen, um den Katalog anzusehen.

Wir kamen mit einer Gruppe von 9 Personen spontan vorbei. Wir wurden freundlich begrüßt und es wurden direkt für uns Plätze im Schatten organisiert. Wir mussten bis auf eine Ausnahme, deren Essen vergessen wurde(es wurde sich entschuldigt) sehr schnell mit Getränken und Essen versorgt. Es hat allen durchweg sehr gut geschmeckt und das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist sehr gut.

Eine tolle Location zum Entspannen, schlemmen und den Blick auf den Platz zu genießen. Super Service, tolle Ambiente und faire Preise.

Das Restaurant Marktstube ist bei jedem Heidelbergbesuch unsere erste Wahl. Wir kommen immer wieder sehr gerne hierher. Das Essen ist wirklich köstlich, frisch und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Besonders schätzen wir das freundliche, herzliche und aufmerksame Personal. Man fühlt sich vom ersten Moment an wohl und willkommen. Wir können es aufgrund des hervorragenden Essens und des exzellenten Services uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Vielen Dank an alle Beteiligten. Wir hoffen, Sie bald wiederzusehen.

Man sitzt hübsch und sehr touristisch. Das drückt leider massiv auf die Qualität (Kaffee aus der Fertigmaschine, schmeckt verbrannt, Essen überschaubar). Service durchschnittlich.

Ein richtig tolles Lokal! Es gab reichlich freie Plätze, sowohl drinnen als auch draußen. Das Essen war super lecker – echte, traditionelle deutsche Küche, und das Bier hat auch hervorragend geschmeckt. Der Service war erstklassig und total schnell. Die Kellner waren so unglaublich freundlich, dass einer von ihnen uns sogar von sich aus angeboten hat, ein Gruppenfoto von uns allen zu machen. Kurz gesagt: Alles war perfekt und super lecker! Absolut empfehlenswert!

Getränke top. Preise stolz. Zahlung bar und mit VISA möglich.

Tolle Location. Tolle kalte Getränke. Besonders Eko ist ein super Typ. Toller Service, gehen auf jeden Wunsch ein. Klare Empfehlung

Hochgradig Enttäuschend! Nicht einmal einen Stern wert. Eine geschmacklich enttäuschende Bratwurst mit wenigen Pommes für 10,90 € – völlig überteuert und absolut kein angemessenes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

Der schlechteste Kundenservice, den ich je erlebt habe. Nie wieder.

Für eine kleine Pause saßen wir im Außenbereich auf dem Platz. Das Ambiente und der Standort waren hier aber das einzige was uns überzeugt hat. Der Service war nicht wirklich freundlich und auch das Essen lies qualitativ zu wünschen übrig. Beim nächsten Mal würde ich mich für ein anderes Restaurant entscheiden.

Zum Trinken ganz gut, ziemlich teuer, aber bei solch einer location verständlich, das essen kann man aber, vor allem bei diesen Preisen, in die Tonne schieben. 19€ für Fertigschnitzel mit Fertigsauce, beides frisch aus der TK-Abteilung sowie einen eher dahingeschissenen Beilagensalat. Wenn ich noch studieren würde, wäre ich lieber in die Unikantine gegangen, da hätte ich für ein Viertel des Preises das gleiche erhalten. "Ausgerechnet Heute" würde das Kartenlesegerät nicht funktionieren, was laut anderen Rezensionen scheinbar öfter der fall sei, kombiniert mit einem falschen Datum im Kassensystem stellt sich die Vermutung bei mir auf, dass hier außerdem Steuerhinterziehung betrieben wird.

Die Lage ist gut. Das Essen war mittelmäßig. Der Service war unterirdisch. Der Kellner ignorierte meine Bitte um die Rechnung zweimal, sodass ich selbst zur Kasse gehen und bezahlen musste. Dann versuchte er, mein Wechselgeld als implizites Trinkgeld einzubehalten und mich einfach wegzuschicken. Ich wollte sowieso etwas geben, entschied mich aber dagegen, nachdem er meinte, ich hätte ihm sagen sollen, dass ich mein Wechselgeld zurückhaben möchte. Halbherziges Essen, schrecklicher und anmaßender Service. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Very rude service, cake heated in the microwave, coffee okay. Warning: They have trouble issuing receipts and try to cheat by giving you a printout of your order!

The place itself has tables inside the restaurant but also serves outside in the plaza. I sat down to order some beers and food, but the owner approached me very angrily, saying he wouldn't serve me or help me because I arrived with a snack I had previously purchased. He was completely unfriendly; I don't recommend it at all. In fact, he didn't seem to be a local. Don't go there.

Cozy little café with a lovely view of the square. The coffee was delicious, and the prices were really fair for the location. Unfortunately, the restroom smelled a bit strong, and there were no soap or paper towels, but otherwise a pleasant place.

Don't eat anything here; the service is terrible, and the food is also very mediocre. A burger from the local football clubhouse is better. Even if you order five fries, there's no mayonnaise. And when you ask for it, you only get two packets. And when you ask again, he looks at you like a bumper car.

Expensive, tastes worse than McCes

The atmosphere inside is very strange, and the service isn't particularly friendly either. The food is most likely all ready-made and doesn't taste particularly good. Card payments aren't accepted; cash only.

Very expensive for what you get, like the bratwurst with potato salad. It cost €16, and for that you get a salad, a small bratwurst, and a small dollop of potato salad. My boyfriend felt really sorry for me. For that price, I would have expected a full plate, and on top of that, the waiter interrupted us during our meal and demanded money instead of checking the bill before or after.

When you sit down, the waiter arrives quickly to take your food, and is very friendly. However, once the food arrives, you don't see him again (except when you're sitting at the window in the shop, just like the other waitress with her phone in her hand). You can forget about reordering or anything like that. The schnitzel is way too small for this price. The sauce is pre-made and lacks any love. The fries were good. However, the dish is absolutely not recommended. Non-carbonated drinks. An uncut half tomato on the salad? Cards are stuck together, generally not a neat appearance. The price-performance ratio is not justified.

The boss doesn't want us to sit with him because we had Lindt ice cream with our children. Unfriendly customer service.

Service was excellent. The food came quickly. The fries were very good, but the schnitzels (Jäger and Wiener) were a disaster.

The food was OK, but you can't find good, quality food anywhere else. The friendliness of the service matched that. To top it off, the waitress didn't want to split the bill, saying we should settle it between ourselves; she just charged the entire table at once. Competence...? = 0 Edit: Apparently, this review is defamatory, which I don't agree with, because we can't be held responsible for the waitress' behavior.

Don’t go here if you are a tourist the owner is racist. I went here with my family. My parents had ice cream from Lindt and when we sat down they told us to move. We understood that it’s the rules so we moved. But me and my brother didn’t get any ice cream so we just stayed while my parents went away and we wanted to order drinks. But they still refused to let us order even though we didn’t have ice cream. The owner was very racist and said it’s always you “Arabs and Americans” even though we are not even Arab. Racism crosses the line for me so I wouldn’t go here if you’re Arab or American. They literally refused to let us order

Cold sausage, dead beer, stale bread. Very lazy and poor service. No sign at all that payment is cash only. Move on!

Not a bad little place. The food was tasty and quick, but we had basics, bratwurst & sauerkraut, eggs, and fries. The waiter was friendly, he struggled a bit with English. Between my bad German and the waiter's English we made it work. It is cash only, for its location maybe a bit dated, but not the only cash only business by far. Great for a quick bite.

Cold coffee (good) and apple trudle with ice cream. The ice cream has been frozen and thawed so much that it tastes like it's gone. The atmosphere is a throwback to an East German era (decor, friendliness, etc.) Even if it's raining, don't stop there.

Disappointing Experience – Rude Service and Outdated Payment Policy We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food was extremely basic – edible, but nothing to write home about. We also ordered iced tea, which turned out to be the powdered kind you mix with water – definitely not what you’d expect when dining out. The real problem, however, was the payment situation. Nowhere on the menu or anywhere else did it mention that they only accept cash. When it came time to pay, we were told we needed to go find an ATM. When I pointed out that this should have been communicated beforehand, the owner responded very rudely, saying it was "our problem" and that "I don’t have to mention it and I don’t need to discuss that with you." In 2025, in a city like Heidelberg that sees so many tourists, it’s hard to believe that a restaurant can operate like this – refusing card payments and being openly hostile when customers are caught off guard. It’s especially frustrating when they don’t even make the cash-only policy clear upfront. We won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to others. There are far better options nearby where both the food and the customer service are taken seriously

This atmosphere doesn't even deserve a star. The food is disgusting, nothing homemade, ready-made food, and the service is terrible. We went there yesterday with our stag and hen party group, and it wasn't great.

I wanted to pay by card, but the waiter said they only accept cash, just so he wouldn't have to go inside and get the POS machine, and didn't allow me to pay by card. I can clearly say that he was a rude waiter. I don’t recommend!

Disaster, food reheated somehow... I don't know, microwave? The waiter was really super nice. But it's no use... in such a great city and with this beautiful market square, they could really make something of it. Swimming pool kiosk level. Such a shame 😪

To be fair my currywurst and chips was,not the best, but the beer on a boiling hot day was a life saver! The staff were friendly towards us, so no complaints there,

I took the chair from the table next to me to sit on a more comfortable chair, but the waiter asked me to put the chair back in a harsh and rude manner, and when we got up, he shouted after us in the square and called us back. We have never seen such bad behavior for a long time. Definitely do not enter.

Esta fue la peor discriminación y trato agresivo que he visto, especialmente porque el trato fue hacia los ancianos muy respetados con nosotros. Al salir de Lindt con helado, queríamos sentarnos y pedir bebidas y nos dijeron groseramente que no y literalmente se fueron. Nos mintieron también y dijeron que no podíamos pedir solo bebidas, teníamos que pedir comida. Luego observó cómo a otros individuos solo se les servía bebidas en la misma área. El tono, el lenguaje y el comportamiento eran más que repugnantes y sugerimos ir a cualquier otro lugar, excepto aquí. Vergüenza para los dos hombres que trabajan allí por tratar a las mujeres de esa manera.

Gran restaurante con una excelente vista del castillo! ¡Justo en el centro de la histórica plaza del mercado! Gran deliciosa comida alemana!

The worst currywurst ever! Somehow heated up, then topped with ketchup and curry powder... the fries were also very meager.

Bon restaurant dans lequel j'ai mangé au cours d'une journée à Heidelberg. Il est très bien placé mais par contre, il est impossible de payer par carte bancaire ce qui est très étonnant de nos jours..

1 Getränk bestellt, 30 min später bekommen. 15 min versucht jemanden zu erreichen, um zu bezahlen. Danach nochmal 30 min gewartet. Und dann werde ich auf Trinkgeld angesprochen? Sie nehmen keine Karten, meckern ihre Kunden an und geben wirklich nur das absolute Minimum, um das Geschäft am leben zu halten.

The interior is surprisingly cozy, with a pleasant atmosphere. The server was also super nice, even though he was serving alone on a Saturday evening. I was very satisfied with my meal (salad with fried mushrooms), and I would give it 5 out of 5 stars. My companions, however, weren't entirely satisfied with theirs (spaetzle rather bland, fries overly seasoned). The women's restroom is unfortunately a bit of a disaster. If the food was prepared with a little more attention to detail, I think this restaurant would be a very popular destination.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience was ridiculous. I ordered an espresso — a very simple thing — and as is standard literally everywhere else in Europe, I expected a small glass of water with it. Not only did they not bring any, but when I politely asked, the waiter looked at me like I was asking for gold. He rudely argued with me, insisting that “they don’t do that here” as if I was out of line for expecting basic hospitality. No apology. No effort to fix it. Just attitude. If a café can’t even get the etiquette of serving espresso right — and worse, treats customers with arrogance and zero courtesy — it’s a hard pass from me. There are plenty of better places in town that know how to treat their guests. Skip this one. You’ve been warned. 👎

A lovely restaurant with seating right on the market square. The service was friendly and quick.

The cake and coffee were okay. However, the service is abysmal. The waiters are irritated and yell at the customers—all the waiters, in fact. Apparently, friendliness isn't necessary with walk-up customers.

Really bad service they told us that they don't accept Greek money as we have euro too then he told us that they don't accept Greek visa card and after we asked to pay with resolute they said they don't accept that either. They don't have any sign saying they don't accept card and they didn't inform us as we sit that we need to pay only cash. Finally they didn't give us the recipe.

The owner here is It was very rude It was slow to take orders and slow to pay, so I called out to them. Then don't stress me out. If you want to tip, get my permission. etc., He said it very arrogantly. It was a very unpleasant feeling. The location is nice, but it's a shame. I won't go again. thank you.

Avoid this tourist trap. The manager growls at everyone, is actively rude including to children, the mediocre food takes ages to come and then you find out they don’t accept credit cards.

Went to this restaurant on the 11th of April, 2025. Ordered a drink, then wanted to order food at 7:45 pm. They had closed the kitchen and there was no option for food. This was frustrating because we picked this restaurant for it's displayed menu. We finished our drinks and when we went to pay were told that they didn't accept Mastercard or visa, only a local German Credit card. We paid cash, but should have been warned at the start that they had closed the kitchen and only accepted cash.

Extremely unfriendly to foreign tourists. Even if you don’t order food, you will be charged a cleaning fee totaling 100 euros. Even giving 1 star feels luxurious.

LLegamos bastante tarde y encontramos sitio. Se estaba súper bien al aire libre (dentro hay pocas mesas), el único problema eran las avispas, pero están en todas partes, por lo que no es culpa del bar.Servicio de lo más amable, hablando español y todo(el hombre turco nos atendió muy bien).La comida buenísima, sobretodo las salchichas, que es lo que venimos buscando todos los turistas. Después entramos al baño y súper limpio. Quedamos maravillados,volveremos.

Vreselijk eten. Burger is geen vlees. Frieten zijn vettig, en er zijn veel vliegen waar niks aan gedaan wordt... De prijs is klein maar zelf dat is het niet waard.

In my opinion, some of the reviews are wrong. The staff is very friendly and quick too. The food and drinks came quickly and tasted quite good. So perfect if you are looking for Johan and want to take a short detour.👍🤙

Horrible, don't come here. The food is not even real food, the fries are greasy and the price is cheap but not even that price is worth the food I ate. The person eating should be paid by the restaurant to eat this horrible food. The atmosphere is mid and they don't do anything about the flies... I don't recommend coming here.

No card accepted and filthy. They only take cash and it is not shown anywhere. When we told them that we are tourists and do not have enough cash on us told us to go to the ATM machine 500m away. Obviously illegal in a country like Germany. A shame for the city of Heidelberg. Average 2 stars is generous.

Cash only! Tourists, be careful - all the cafés at marktplatz take no credit cards ( I guess same ower or a cartel). None of them are really worth visiting because of aynting else. I would categorize it as a tourist trap.

Best to avoid this place. Food is mediocre, even considering it’s in the middle of the tourist plaza. Service is ok, price is ok. They don’t take card, typical in Germany but frustrating nonetheless especially considering this restaurants location.

When the weather was nice, I wanted to sit down in the market square for a drink and a small snack. I had to wait more than 20 minutes for my drink. The waitress seemed slightly overwhelmed as he had to manage the outdoor area alone. The boss, on the other hand, preferred to focus on the umbrellas outside instead of helping his employee. The parasols were suddenly closed despite the sun, leaving me and other guests sitting in the summer sun. I then decided not to eat a little something.

The market square is very manageable, but the tables are lined up closely together to get through. Tables that are difficult for strollers to access Disastrous service. If you want to eat schnitzel then the place is ok but nothing more. We were told that the Maultaschen were very large. Then you get 3 mini Maultaschen which are also packaged. My wife was still hungry afterwards. Burgers aren't that great either. The cheese didn't even run and the burger bread was a joke too!!

Nicht zu empfehlen! Der Cheeseburger für 9,90 EUR war ein Alptraum. In unserem Salat für 12,90 EUR befand sich nicht nur eine Fliege, sondern auch ein Stück Kunststoff, das aussah wie Styropor. Wir haben den Salat zurückgehen lassen, jedoch wollte der Inhaber diesen voll bezahlt haben. Unfreundlich und überhaupt nicht kundenorientiert.

Tuve que pedir la cuenta 3 veces. Me dijeron que no podía pagar con una tarjeta extranjera, lo que es una tontería e ilegal según la legislación de la UE. Cuando pagué en efectivo, me devolvieron muy poco cambio. Señalé eso a la camarera, ella trató de ignorarme, insistí, después de lo cual dio a la cantidad correcta de cambio. No sintió la necesidad de disculparse. Pura deshonestidad.

No service, we wiped the table ourselves. After we finished eating we paid our tip but the waitress deceived us. We said we didn't want the bill but it quickly left with the remaining money on the table. I'm angry, not because of the few dollars, but because of their attitude. I will not return.

We have here on May 24th. Ate a salad with chicken strips and a Jägerschnitzel. My colleague had the Jägerschnitzel. Two hours later, my colleague became ill and has had intestinal tract since then. Apart from the fact that the portions are very carelessly prepared and the prices are way too high, the kitchen also looks very dirty. Bottom line: the vacation is now over and my colleague only has stomach cramps. The health department has been informed. Thanks for that.

Really terrible here never again

I have the cafe Recently visited and had an extremely disappointing experience with the owner's demeanor. I was just standing outside looking at the menu, deciding whether to enter, when the owner stormed out and aggressively accused me of blocking the entrance, even though no one was trying to enter or leave the place at the time. It was completely empty. And be Tone of voice was incredibly rude and unwelcoming. If this is the first impression the owner gives potential customers, it's no surprise that the cafe has such a low rating of 2.5 stars. I certainly won't be going back any time soon and encourage others to think twice before supporting such disrespectful behavior.

Had a decent lunch here, nothing special, though. Later stopped back for coffee at one of their many outdoor tables, while my wife went to Lindt store next door. When she came back and had a hot chocolate from Lindt the waiter came out and told her it was unacceptable for her to sit there with a cup from Lindt. They were quite rude about it too. This is a busy shopping area with many shops. I would think they would want husbands to sit for a coffee or a beer while their wives shopped. I encourage you to spend your time and money elsewhere. For a restaurant in a busy tourist area, they aren't very friendly.

Nous avons seulement mangé un appelstrudel. C'était correct sans être extraordinaire. Les prix pour la nourrir étaient correct mais c'est presque un fast food.

As tourists we were looking for something to eat and shelter from the rain. Stumbled in by chance and was immediately greeted very warmly and felt welcome. The food was very good and the service was very nice and child-friendly. Don't let appearances fool you. It's worth a visit! Thank you again!
