Cafe Cenmoro in Heidelberg

I don't understand the good reviews. We went to Cafe Cenmoro today for coffee and cake in the outdoor area. The cake is frozen and very expensive. The service was disorganized and chaotic. A real shame considering the great location.

The reactions to the food were very mixed. However, everyone had one thing in common: we didn't feel so good afterward. It's hard to say whether this was really the reason. Therefore, I'll just rate the taste and portion. Both were very varied. Different amounts and different levels of quality. There was everything from delicious but little to awful and plentiful. The condition of the restrooms, however, was different. This is unacceptable. It doesn't make up for the beautiful location or reasonable prices. The service was absolutely fine.

As a professional in the hospitality industry and with many years of experience as a bartender and bar manager, I would like to provide constructive feedback on my visit. We sat down around 8:00 p.m. that evening and initially wanted to eat, but then learned that the kitchen was already closed and only drinks were available. This is understandable, but the drinks order revealed clear weaknesses in service: The employee had to be referred to the menu when choosing soft drinks, water, and a strawberry daiquiri, which indicates a lack of product knowledge. The preparation of the cocktail was particularly problematic: It was served in a martini glass with ice – unusual for the bar, as cocktails in this glass are usually served without ice but well chilled. Furthermore, the drink was overly strong and unbalanced in its mix, making it barely enjoyable. When I politely suggested to the bartender that I try an alternative cocktail, I was denied the opportunity to try it and was treated unprofessionally as a guest. This came across as rude and disrespectful, and does not meet the usual industry standards. Conclusion: There is significant room for improvement in the staff's product and menu knowledge, proper cocktail preparation, and professional and respectful interaction with guests. This establishment could benefit significantly from an open attitude, proper cocktail technique, and training for the team.

We would be completely forgotten, service was really not great even on such a busy day.

It's a shame that I have to base this review on the very unfriendly condition... but this kind of attitude is completely unacceptable. One can be understanding of everything, but taking someone for a fool is completely unacceptable. There's a pad and pen, and you can write down your order, just drinks! Too bad :-(

I ate a rump steak, no idea what kind of meat it was. Even the fries were soft and therefore half-raw. The tarte flambée at the next table looked very decent, though.

The waitress that serviced our table seemed really annoyed by her job and was rude towards us. She made us feel really unwelcome which is why we decided to leave after drinks. Eventhough it seemed possible to pay by card at this restaurant the waitress forced us to pay in cash without a clear reason.

A waiter woman with a huge bare belly in front of the guests’ face doesn't respect her superiors at all, throws menus at my table, draws conclusions about my country of origin, and is very biased, even though I was polite at first. By the way, there’s a good waiter Arsen, he was caring and polite.

It's not even worth giving them one star. They don't accept credit cards, and they ask me to pay with cash because they don't have change. The service is terrible, and I won't be coming back.

The service was excellent. The staff was full of energy. The crepes were like the ones you get anywhere, but it was nice that they didn't smell of egg.

The servers were very quick, attentive, and had personality. They also spoke English well, which helped me a ton. The food was very good, the beer as well. Indoor and outdoor seating was nice.

Pay attention if you are tourist. At the moment of paying they say that you cannot pay by credit card!! Only cash! This is not fair!

We stumbled upon this place because there was no room at other restaurants. We were looking for a place to have breakfast, and despite the late hour, we were still able to find one. We ordered the Bella Italia, but were very disappointed. The ingredients didn't seem 100% fresh, and the egg, for example, was very greasy. The service was unfriendly, and it felt rushed; the bill was rounded up without approval.

We dined here on July 17, 2025, and had tagliatelle with chicken and cream sauce. It was delicious. I highly recommend this cafe. The price and quality are just right.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but our experience here was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to share. First, we were served a bottle of wine that had clearly already been opened. It wasn’t sealed properly, tasted off, and when we brought it to the staff’s attention, they were dismissive rather than apologetic. To make matters worse, my daughter was given the wrong drink, not even close to what she ordered. She tried to let the server know, but they seemed rushed and uninterested. Overall, it felt like customer care was an afterthought. Between the poor service and questionable quality control, we won’t be returning—and I’d recommend others think twice before dining here.

The hunter's schnitzel with plenty of chanterelle mushrooms and the grilled turkey schnitzel with cream sauce, which we skipped, were both delicious. The fries were seasoned just right. It was accompanied by a fresh salad with dill dressing, delicious. The service was very polite and gave us time to choose. We ate in the evening sun on the market square.

Should have considered other comments here about the waitress. Was either quite rude or abrupt, depending on how you want to put it. Snatched menus away. Spent a fair bit of time smoking, drinking and chatting with a mate on a table just outside the entrance. Worst bit was it was a very hot evening and I watched her sit outside wiping the sweat off the soles of her feet and flip flops with a serviette, then her pits and chest before carrying on serving people clearly without washing her hands. Food was basic fare but you get what you pay for. Toilets stank. The square in general and Heidelberg was beautiful though.

What if the food is delicious? The waitress demands a tip, takes more than 20 minutes to give you the menu, and is late in serving and paying because she smokes and talks on the phone. She sighs right in front of you and is extremely racist. There are many reviews saying they are friendly, but it seems to be limited to Westerners. If you are Asian, don't waste your time at this trashy restaurant with a good location and go to another restaurant.

We were there for lunch on June 11, 2025. We sat outside on the market square. The many umbrellas provided plenty of shade. Unfortunately, a street musician who played by the fountain and then begged the customers was a bit annoying. I had rump steak for dinner. It was cooked to perfection, but the meat lacked flavor and was a bit tough. Not the quality I expect from a restaurant. I would have liked to tell the staff, but unfortunately, I didn't ask if everything was okay. The wait for food and drinks was okay, and the prices were fair for a downtown Heidelberg location. When paying, it took a while until a card reader was available. When I went to the restroom, I also saw the interior, which is comfortably furnished. The restrooms in the basement, however, needed a quick clean; one urinal was broken and covered with a trash bag, the floor around the drain had been temporarily patched, and there were clear traces of urine on the floor around the urinals. There's still room for improvement here. They also offer cocktails, seasonal drinks, and a lunch menu, although we didn't try any of them. Would we come back? Not for the food, but maybe for a cocktail in a cozy atmosphere.

Disappointing. 3 points only for the good location. We wanted to enjoy coffee and cake and would never have guessed that the cake was frozen. The young waitress was very nice. Another waitress (female) sat at the next table, smoking and ranting into her cell phone, which was very unpleasant.

The restaurant is centrally located on the market square. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our food was delicious and the portions generous. We had herb pancakes and mushroom-filled ravioli. There's a very extensive food and drink menu. Our cocktails were also delicious. We were here for the first time with the Schlemmerblock (snack menu) and will definitely be back.

Disrespectful waitress, throws menus at the table like a napkin and doesn't even give you time to finish your order before leaving. Tables are dirty and not cleared. It also took half an hour for someone to come and take our order. The cocktails were pretty good, though.

We went there with the digital gourmet guide. The food is good, but nothing special. It's a tourist spot, and they probably cater more to casual customers. A shandy is €5.50, but you're sitting in Heidelberg, near the castle, right on the market square. That's totally fine.

We wanted to redeem a voucher we had for the café. When we paid, however, they claimed the voucher wasn't from the café – even though we knew the employee who issued it, but apparently hadn't worked there for three months. We then left the restaurant, but were treated very rudely and disrespectfully, especially by the bartender. Went there for the first time yesterday. The food was really ok for the price. But would that make me come back? Rather not. The service is in great need of improvement. I don't think it's appropriate to talk on the phone behind the counter while guests want to order something. Unfortunately, there is no clear line to be seen either, and the menu is too confused and overcrowded with dishes. If you want to stand out from typical tourist towns, you should definitely think about this.

Wir kamen bei schönem Wetter hier an und hatten eine Soda und einen Flammkuchen zusammen. Der Service war nett, die Lage am Platz ist sehr schön. Auch gab es Decken, die ersten kalten Tage brachen an. Leider fing es dann an zu regnen, so dass einige der anderen Cafés die Sonnenschirme aufspannten. In diesem Restaurant gab es leider nur einen, der aber nicht aufgespannt wurde und dann Möglichkeiten am Gebäude selbst. Wir haben dann unsere Sachen gepackt und sind ins Lokal rein. Drinnen war das Ambiente sehr nett, es gab einen Gastraum vorne, in dem leider eine Fensterscheibe zerschlagen war und dann einen Gastraum weiter hinten oben und unten die WC Anlage. Es schien etwas Personalmangel zu herrschen, weil man uns weder beim Umräumen half, noch darauf aufmerksam machte, noch den (einen) Schirm draussen aufspannte, noch zeitnah die Scherben wegräumte. Wenn meine Begleitung mich nicht darauf aufmerksam gemacht hätte, hätte ich mich in die Scherben rein gesetzt. Kurzum, wir bekamen drinnen einen Platz aber auf Eigeninitiative. Der "Umzug" an sich machte aber keine Probleme, wenn der Service innen etwas schneller gewesen wäre, hätten wir noch einen Kaffee getrunken. Dem war dann aber nicht so. Inzwischen wurden aber die Scherben weggeräumt und weitere Gäste kamen ins Lokal von draussen. Alles in Allem dem Personalmangel geschuldet, etwas überfordert aber nicht unfreundlich. Das Abkassieren lief reibungslos, die Toiletten im Untergeschoss waren etwas klein aber okay. Aber jetzt auch nicht unbedingt ein Lokal zum Wiederkehren.

During our visit to Heidelberg today we went to Café Cenmoro for lunch. Location: The café is located in the corner of the market square by the town hall. You can sit both inside and at numerous tables outside. Mood/environment: From the tables in the square you can easily watch the hustle and bustle of the people, enjoy the sun and relax a little from the hustle and bustle of the pedestrian zone. Coziness: Unfortunately the chairs are a little uncomfortable. Food/Drinks: There is a plentiful selection of food and drinks. There are also plenty of vegetarian dishes on the menu. There are also two special daily specials every day. The food, schnitzel with fries and salad, and the baked potato were ok. Service: The service was nice and friendly, but unfortunately not very enthusiastic about us wanting to pay by card.

Hoy no tenían sopa de hongos, así que tuvimos la sopa de cebolla, que era bastante agradable. El espagueti de mariscos fue uno de los mejores que he probado en Alemania hasta ahora. We stopped for lunch at this lovely little cafe in the square recently and whilst the service was bit slow the food was delicious, tasty and good value. The beers were also excellent. We would definitely go there again

We had a voucher for the store. When paying, we were told that the voucher had not been purchased there (the employee who issued it was known, but had apparently not worked there for three months). We then left, but were treated very rudely, especially by the barman, after his insinuation. The menu wasn't up to date, so you suddenly had to pay more when billing. This has not been done transparently before. No recommendation, rather visit one of the alternatives in the immediate vicinity.

Really good for public viewing, but late and unfriendly service. Card payment was only possible inside and you were forced to go in to pay in the middle of the game. The raspberry part of the mocktails tasted as if you had just dropped a spoonful of raspberry jam into it and not stirred it. There was a lemon floating in the beer, which seemed a little strange to me.

I was initially nervous because of other reviews The service was honestly very friendly and accommodating. The lady that our huge lunch group (12) had was absolutely lovely. This menu had great food to include options for some odd picky eaters in our group. The table and atmosphere was so great. We had a cool view of the church. Overall this place positively surprised me and I would return.

Top location, beautiful interiors. The food wasn't particularly outstanding but I think it was OK for the price and the top location. Fresh pizza may be good, but the other dishes taste more like frozen goods. Enough to fill you up, but if you want to eat delicious food, this is the wrong place. Service was organized a bit chaotically. You had the feeling it was your first day in the restaurant business. You could do a lot more with it here.

Tomato soup and onion soup only tasted salty or like soup seasoning, large soggy baguette cubes were served as croutons, Black Forest tasted stale, drinks were ok. Service was very good. Overall not recommended.

Only cash payment possible! Unfortunately, you only find out about this when you want to pay and not before! €20 for two cheaply made cocktails and a small glass of Sprite. La camarera, una señora mayor, que nos sirvió fue lo peor; en primer lugar se tomó unas confianzas improcedentes en el trato , en segundo lugar intentó apropiarse de una propina desproporcionada: para pagar una cuenta de 130€ le entregué 150 € en tres billetes de 50 que se guardó en la cartera alejándose de la mesa, cuando le reclamé la vuelta del dinero restante se justificó, con malos modos, diciendo que como le había entregado el dinero en mano eso significaba que podía quedarse con los 20€. Ni la comida, ni mucho menos el servicio, merecían semejante propina. Devolvió el dinero (de mala gana). Aunque al final le dejé propina me arrepiento de haberlo hecho. Por cierto que no aceptan tarjetas para pagar.

Very bad! Had to wait a very long time to order and then had to wait another long time for the drinks! Drinks were mediocre, not really tasty and therefore way too expensive for what you got. Toen ik wilde afrekenen gebaarde de serveerster dat ik moest wachten tot ze haar sigaret op had. Daarna werd mij op een erg onvriendelijke wijze gewezen op het feit dat ik fooi MOEST geven. Niet normaal. Hoe is het mogelijk. Erg jammer.

One of the worst places I ate, it's a shame

This cozy restaurant has left one of the best impressions at the heart of Altstadt in HD. I must say, I enjoyed every single bite of the meal in Café Cenmoro. Our waiter was awesome, the staff was polite and worked as a team in bringing and cleaning up our food.

Nice stuff and good food, on Sundays they serve Exotic Iranian brunch which was good.

I came here with a group of 6 girls. We all got a drink and had a good time until we had to interact with the waitress. The waitress saw that we were American and decided to up-charge us. The prices on the menu did not match what the waitress told us our individual totals were.
