MARGARETE in Frankfurt am Main

There were five of us and it started out very confusing. The waiter came, brought a wine cooler with white wine that we had ordered and poured the whole bottle into five glasses, with the one guest at the table who had also ordered the wine just a little, like a tasting sip and among other things young man under 18 the wine glass is three quarters full. He explained with an ironic smile whether we would like to have a second bottle because he had misjudged and put the empty bottle upside down in the cooler with filled ice. The problem is that you don't drink the whole bottle of wine in one go before the food arrives - there are also drivers who want to dose their wine differently, especially since you don't pour three-quarters of a glass full to a young man. (Apart from that, a white wine should not get warm in the glass) We waited a very long time for the food and the bread plates that are served before the food with the knife for bread and butter were only cleared away at the end. People kept asking if we would like to order another bottle of wine and our glasses were still completely full - an unpleasant situation because we felt like alcoholics who couldn't get enough. We complained on several occasions that we didn't want to drink white wine warm like tea, people just laughed at it, then a soup came, I can only call it that, dry soup crumbs, then warm water in a cold, huge bowl Plate was spilled. Unfortunately, the tablespoons weren't at the table yet, which means we had to wait for the spoons. The soup was of course cold - but it's worth noting that the prices on this menu don't correspond to the service at all. After a very long wait, our main course finally arrived, although one dish was absolutely inedible. We were offered dessert even though only two people took the menu and they forgot that the other people hadn't ordered a menu. After a long wait, a new waitress was sent to us, who came to the table very ironically. She asked what do you want to drink and we replied we ordered a bottle of water half an hour ago. Please at least clear away the plates for the bread and butter so that we have space, in a strict tone of course. Then an even sterner, louder tone came back, asking what kind of problem we had. We had no choice but to ask the management. It's a shame, we were so looking forward to this evening, a nice way to start the New Year, and we had a terrible evening. The deer back was very expensive and was also cold and dry. The gnocchi, inedible. I hope we are an isolated case. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, but the staff is not able to handle such a standard. A wanted but not accomplished German haute cuisine. In fact, a lady who claimed to be the management came to the table with a serious tone about what the problem was, but after we explained she understood that we were completely right, she accommodated us with a price reduction, we felt We didn't feel good about it because we didn't want a discount, we just wanted good service with good food, yes that was professional and nice of her, unfortunately we went straight home in a bad mood and the evening was over. Oh yes, we're still laughing about it. The white bread and butter in the pretty little pots was excellent

Como todo restaurante de cocina NO tradicional, los platos son minúsculos a precios mayúsculos. Sin embargo, las combinaciones de sabores y texturas son bastante acertadas y distintas a lo habitual en este tipo de restaurantes. Es recomendable SIEMPRE que hayas comido antes.

Reception is friendly, we have burgers on Wednesday 🍔 day. We have just had the time to order and yet we have accepted. Service was very nice and friendly. Atmosphere is okay, I think the evening is better. We were there around lunchtime. I was at first but was really good 👍

We got a table without a reservation thanks to the friendly waitress and were served politely. Unfortunately the food was very salty, the falfel was burnt and not edible. It's a shame, I've always been happy so far.

A culinary experience in a class of its own – that best describes my visit to the Margarete restaurant. From the stylish atmosphere to the exquisite dishes to the first-class service, everything was just right here. The combination of excellent food, stylish ambience and service that leaves nothing to be desired makes Margarete a place that I can only recommend to everyone. Thanks to the entire team - and a very special thank you to Jannick, who made our evening something very special with his extraordinary commitment. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

The Margarete always scores points for me, especially with the sofas at the head of the bar. A good place to be among people and yet undisturbed. The atmosphere is a bit like being in a very spacious living room and the wall of books invites you to browse. Update 2024: Margarete was my favorite shop for a long time (see above), but that has just completely changed. I went there again today for the first time after a long time. The cozy cafe area gave way to fancy restaurant signage. A frantic gentleman greeted me at the door. I asked what happened to the cafe. He replied curtly, “Restaurant!” I said I saw that, but politely asked again what happened to the cafe. He replied again “Restaurant!!”. I explained again that I knew something different and he replied that it must have been a long time ago. A missed opportunity. A friendly “We have changed our concept, but of course you can still get a coffee here.” ... might have persuaded me to leave it at that and not go to another cafe to write these lines. It's a shame, beautiful, loving Margarete... you remain a beautiful memory.

Nice place and also potential. However, the food was just OK and not excellent, as you would expect given the prices. There was also no question as to whether everything was okay or whether it tasted good.

Very tasty food and great menus, plus an excellent wine selection. Combined with the modern and, in my opinion, homely atmosphere and the attentive service, it's a great location - whether for a quick lunch or a romantic dinner. We will still test breakfast. A little more expensive in the evening, but worth the money. The lunch menu is cheap at 15.

Unfortunately we were not served. After ages, my friend went to the counter and ordered a simple cappuccino with oat milk. After 30 minutes it still wasn't there... It's a shame because I used to always enjoy being here.

The service is incredibly friendly and very attentive. We sat outside in the courtyard and it was quite quiet and you didn't notice much of the traffic. Unfortunately, you have to go into the restaurant after 10 p.m. The food was super tasty. There is bread with whipped butter and a greeting from the kitchen. Also ideal for gluten intolerant people, as the menu is well marked with allergens and there was even separately packaged gluten-free bread. The staff and kitchen here are very knowledgeable. The food always came at the same time and the main course also came on pre-heated plates. The food is a bit more expensive, but the price-performance ratio is still very good. We'd love to come back. 🥰

There is still room for improvement. Reception was good, we were escorted straight outside without asking us if we would like to sit there. The aperitif Wilhelm spritz tops the spicy venus flop. Unfortunately, there wasn't that much flexibility when ordering the 3-course menu. I think it wouldn't have been a big problem to serve the intermediate course as a starter, even for an additional charge. The male service staff (with glasses and blonde hair) was more empathetic and sold better than their colleagues. At the end of August I found the amuse bouché as cream of asparagus soup to be very inappropriate. But it was okay. For the starter, the beef tartare with mustard was a bit over-seasoned and the cold melon soup also needed a bit more kick. The fried shrimp with the shell on is a bit difficult to eat with a spoon. The main course, however, was very good. The gooseberry and cucumber ice cream dessert sounded better than it actually was. The two components didn't really fit together. The lemon and meringue dessert, however, was very good. Wine prices are accordingly okay.

El martes en Margarete es un día de schnitzel. Vinimos alrededor de las 13 h y ya no había Schnizel para pedir. El personal dijo que hacen 35 porciones para ese día. Entiendo restaurante está haciendo planes a la hora de aprovisionar los ingredientes para el menue PERO restaurante como este NO DEBE quedarse sin menú diario OFERTA , sobre todo haciendo solo 35 porciones. La comida que pedimos no valía el dinero que pagamos. La ensalada de lado y el trozo de salmón a la parrilla cuestan 27 € cada uno? Almuerzo para dos con una copa 63 €. Por último, no había suficiente personal para atender la terraza. Pobre chica corría por toda la terraza mientras el joven camarero caminaba muy casualmente sin conocer el menú precisamente cuando le hice una pregunta.

Bad service... 1 hour to get the dishes and 1 dish is missing.... I do not recommend... speaking in French...

Extremely interesting restaurant/bistro with ambitious, creative cuisine

Creative menu and very attentive and friendly service. I regularly stop by for a salmon salad at lunchtime. I've also been there for dinner - you can be sure that the quality is always the same.

Opaque menu. At the end there were a few side dishes to choose from and possibly multi-course menus. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any more details out of the visibly stressed but neatly dressed service staff. We therefore refrained from ordering food and changed restaurants after consuming the cocktails we had stupidly ordered before.

Such a great restaurant. I got married in the back and we had the room for 20 people and the back terrace and it was perfect. Very cozy and pleasant atmosphere. They have a disabled-accessible toilet for wheelchair users and there are also parking options outside on the street. The staff were so incredibly nice and the food was vegan, fish or meat. We recommend.

Unfortunately very inflexible when it comes to allergies. Although the service was friendly, it took a long time until the first drinks arrived. Although it wasn't full. In my opinion, the price/performance ratio for the food is not right. At this price, the presentation on the plate should also be more loving/refined. Drink prices are ok. However, I cannot recommend the restaurant as someone with allergies to certain foods.

We have been to Margarete several times now and have always been thrilled. The food is exceptionally good and the new concept (bistro at the front, restaurant at the back) means there is something for every budget. The pasta made from the Parmesan wheel is particularly recommended. We will be back!

While out trying to find a restaurant on a busy night when Germany was playing a football game, this restaurant was a welcome, pleasant retreat. Just out of the main tourist area, the bistro section had a padded outdoor couch awaiting us on the street. Excellent fresh, lemonades, potato soup, and entrees...organic sausages with generous portion of Frankfurter green sauce and goat cheese with apricots and vegetables. Service was remarkably attentive for Germany, as well!

Delicious, creative dishes, courteous service and the small renovation was also very successful - MARGARETE is a top address in downtown Frankfurt!

Dining at Margarete was a highly enjoyable experience. The staff were incredibly accommodating, seating us and taking our order even though the kitchen was due to close in just 10 minutes. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and with generous portion sizes. The ambiance provided a refreshing escape from the excitement of Euro 2024, making it a perfect spot to unwind and savor a wonderful meal. Highly recommended!

We celebrated our wedding here in April with 75 guests. From the planning and organization, to the food, to the last drink on the day of the celebration, everything was top! Here you are dealing with people who know their craft and clearly enjoy being good hosts, especially for children. Definitely a recommendation!

Very good discovery, with quality and well presented dishes. A special mention for the sublime lamb chops and the discovery of Estellman pinot noir which goes wonderfully well with lamb!

I think it's a bit overhyped. Given the prices, my expectations for food and service were higher. We were served very well throughout the evening. In the end, another service person took over, who acted arrogantly and thus contributed to an unpleasant end to the evening. A pity.

Margarete Restaurant is located right in the center of Frankfurt. It is very stylishly furnished. Particularly noteworthy is the extremely professional and friendly service. The menu is clear and suitable for vegetarians. The dishes are beautifully presented and of high quality. I really enjoyed my stay.

Really really nice restaurant. You can happily spend a few hours here. The food was really tasty and very well balanced, coffee 1o/1o. Unfortunately, the dessert was a disappointment - but that's what the deduction was for. Otherwise a real recommendation. It definitely has the potential to become a favorite place.

Zuerst einmal möchte ich den Spitzen Service loben - vor allem den Angestellten Rodrigo, denn dieser hat den Abend perfekt gemacht. Das Essen ist sehr gut und die Portionen sind ausreichend, sodass man sicherlich nicht hungrig nachhause geht. Das Preis-/Leistungsvergältnis war überraschend gut für die Speisekarte und die zentrale Lage. Ich kann das Restaurant sehr empfehlen - wir kommen wieder.

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Abend. Der Service war super, vorallem Alexandra vom Serviceteam war sehr aufmerksam. Immer für einen da und alles ging sehr schnell. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Essen war von Anfang bis Ende sehr lecker. Die Gans war perfekt zubereitet und die Haut sehr knusprig. Der Preis auf der Karte kann vorerst ein bisschen schocken, ist es aber meiner Meinung nach auf jeden Fall wert! Ich würde das Restaurant jedem weiterempfehlen.

Sehr schönes Restaurant und Ambiente. Das Essen war lecker, aber vom Preis-Leistungsverhältnis finde ich zu teuer. Service sehr freundlich, aber lange Wartezeiten. Wir mussten eine halbe Stunde warten, um zu bestellen, danach 45 min. auf die Vorspeise und 30 min. auf den Hauptgang. Bei der Preisklasse etwas enttäuschend.

Sehr schön und zentral gelegenes Restaurant. Wir hatten unsere Ruhe, obwohl es gut besucht war. In vielen anderen Restaurants komme ich mir vor, als sitze ich in der Bahnhofshalle, weil es so laut schallt... hier nicht! Außerdem gute Beratung bei der Weinauswahl und top Service und Qualität!! Extrem leckeres Essen! Wir hatten ein 4 Gänge Menü und jedes der Gerichte war einfach köstlich! Auf der Cocktail Karte fehlte uns was fruchtiges/süßes, ansonsten war es perfekt.

Kurzfristige Reservierung möglich, was unserem spontanen Gemüt sehr entgegen kommt. Das Service Personal war äußerst zuvorkommend, fachlich versiert und sehr proaktiv. Die Getränke waren extravagant uns sehr schmackhaft. Das Essen war schlicht hervorragend. Um unseren Hund wurde sich auch bestens gekümmert, mit Wasser und sogar Straußenleckerchen. Alles in allem ein wunderbares Restauranterlebnis.

Als Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky 1926 die moderne Küche erfand, begann ein neues Kochen und Arbeiten in einem funktionalen Umfeld. Knapp 100 Jahre später widmet das Restaurant "Margarete" in der Frankfurter Altstadt sein Konzept dieser Pionierin. Simon und seine charmante Crew servieren sog. einfache Gerichte, darunter ein tägliches Stammessen für gut 12 Euro, auf hohem Niveau. Schnörkellos, aber aus besten Zutaten. Man sitzt draußen auf Paletten-Möbeln, drinnen in schlichtem Interieur. Margarete wäre begeistert.

Ein super Restaurant. Der Service sowie das Essen haben mich vollends überzeugt. Da es sich um gehobene Gastronomie handelt, ist das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis auch im Vergleich zu anderen Gastronomiebetrieben absolut vertretbar. Immer wieder gerne hier, sofern ich in der Gegend bin!!

What an amazing spot to sit down at and have a coffee and nibbles and watch the passing gay parade goers. The coffee was nice but the more interesting thing were the passing sights.

This is an upscale modern restaurant suitable for a nice business meal or romantic date. The menu changes frequently and I had a grilled carrot appetizer that blew me away - SO good. The pea soup also had great flavor. The mains at our table (salmon and steak) were cooked and seasoned well and I was expecting outstanding taste given the price, but I would say it was just good, not great. Our server Rodrigo was excellent, very friendly, spoke multiple languages including English, and was very attentive, which can be hard to find in Germany. He made our experience special and I would definitely return to this place in the future.

Excellent choice for lunch or dinner close to the Roemembeg Plaza, which makes it very central and well located. The restaurant is quite large with tables outside on the street, as well as in the garden area behind the restaurant. All the seating choices are excellent, and after 7 PM in the summer the back area is shaded, which makes it a better option for seating. The wine menu is quite extensive featuring primarily German wines. The menu choices are limited with only a few featured main entrees that are changed every couple of months with the seasons. We had the steak, which was perfectly prepared with a lentil salad as well as the organic salmon, which was also perfectly cooked with a tomato-based and potato salads. It was really a great dining experience. Well recommended.
