malzraum in München

Attention tip police!! Unfortunately, I have to write this review. I once gave this restaurant a very good review. Today, I learned that the proprietor explained to me that we (my wife and I) are already known for giving bad tips. What happened? I ordered a Cordon Bleu, which was unfortunately raw in some parts (not good for pork). The mistake was immediately corrected, and the dish was returned. I wasn't actively offered anything to rectify this mishap. When I asked for it, I was offered an espresso. When I explained that I didn't drink espresso at that time of night, the waiter offered me schnapps. I asked for grappa. The proprietor declined because it was too expensive. When I asked for it, the proprietor explained that I was only trying to negotiate for a grappa, which was much more expensive than espresso, etc. He also explained that we were already known to give poor tips to the staff. I don't know what that has to do with the current case, and besides, I'm under the impression that a 5-7% tip is good, apparently not. Dear Mr. Landlord, scaring away regulars for 5-7 euros is truly sad, and then kicking them about the fact that the tips are always too meager is even sadder. A shame and unnecessary. The one star for poor service only refers to the landlord. P.S. The burger was also very raw on one of our other visits, but we didn't say anything because you have to let things slide sometimes. But twice raw is simply not good. Unfortunately, I was forced to revise my good rating after this experience.

I'll join in with the 1-star review. We've always thought the place was great. The food was always good too. Today, as some have already written, my husband got a raw Corden Bleu. Or rather, the pork was raw. The complaint has been adjusted. When it came to how we could get revenge, my husband wanted a grappa and not an espresso because that wakes him up. Afterwards, we were accused of canceling the order for fries in a busy shop. That's not true either. I had to leave early and was paying. The waitress asked if she should cancel it. My answer was: gladly if possible, otherwise I'll pay. To top it all off, we were accused of not tipping enough. So, anyone who can always leave a 10 or 20 euro tip is definitely welcome in this shop. However, when I read the 1- or 2-star reviews, I suspect it might be the fault of the host and his reactions, rather than the guests. Well, they won't see us again either.

Our experience was mediocre. The prices are relatively high for what is sometimes simple, home-style cooking. At full capacity in the evening, the service seemed a bit overwhelmed. We did receive a minimal discount for complaining about a dish, but as a guest, I would have preferred a bit more appreciation or a more service-oriented approach to compensation.

Atmosphere is great. Those lights outside are cute. Service is good, waitresses are nice and friendly. They made an exception for us and dried a table after rain. Also brought us a blanket. The food is mediocrity and is not worth the money. The 20€ burger tasted like 12€, the 18€ salad was more or a 10€ salad, the 8€ truffle chips had no truffle or even truffle imitation and was served blatantly with a generic mushroom sauce. The beer selection is good. Overall it’s just not worth the money. Everything tastes like it should cost 30% cheaper. Somehow pub food quality for restaurant prices. Definitely come here for the pub ambience, but not for restaurant experience.

One of my favourite restaurants in all Germany. Fantastic food made with a lot of care, cheese spatzle was outstanding but everything was really great. Very chilled out place to relax and enjoy amazing food.

Relatively small portions. The food took a while to arrive because the waiters were a bit overwhelmed. While it was tasty, it was still overpriced! It was actually quite nice, but incredibly loud... the louder the customers got, the less the waiters could handle it. All in all, we won't be going back.

Stunned but also comical! My wife's cordon bleu was still raw on the first attempt - it was taken back without comment but then served again. When she asked for a new dish, the same thing was brought back reheated. It was only on the third attempt that she got a different dish. In the end, we still had to pay for both dishes. When we complained, we were threatened with the police. Since we didn't want to wait that long for the officers to arrive, we simply paid the full amount and left. The boss must have a bit of an ego problem when he serves a raw dish and then angrily threatens to call the police. Anyway, the guys who served were correct but unfortunately had to go without a tip. We didn't have the heart to do it anymore - sorry guys.

Unfortunately, I had to significantly downgrade my original 5-star rating. The cordon bleu arrived raw – inedible and disgusting. My polite feedback was met with a rude response, with no understanding or apology. It's especially unfortunate, as the service staff were genuinely trying and even hinted to us that there were frequent internal problems – apparently especially with the chef, who has an ego problem. Very disappointing, and overall, I'd no longer recommend it.

I received raw pork, and after returning it, I received it back the same way on a new plate. I returned it again, ordered something else instead, and had to pay for both. When I complained to the chef, I was threatened with the police. Impossible, not recommended.

A great way to end your stay in Munich. The location is very inviting and cozy, the staff were very friendly, and the food was delicious. The menu offered some truly great dishes. I would definitely recommend it. Keep up the good work and thank you! ✨️

Lively place full of locals on a Sunday night! Good beer.

Vom ersten Moment an haben wir uns im Malzraum in München absolut willkommen gefühlt! Der Empfang war herzlich und authentisch. Die Atmosphäre ist wunderbar gemütlich, genau der richtige Ort, um einen entspannten Abend mit einer guten Freundin zu verbringen. Das Essen war ein echtes Highlight, ein sehr interessantes Menu. Wir haben uns fuer das Wildhirsch-Ragout entschieden und die Zweierlei Ravioli! Beides geschmacklich auf hohem Niveau und gleichzeitig absolut fair im Preis ! Tolles Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis! Beides war liebevoll zubereitet und voller Aromen, die in Erinnerung bleiben. Auch der Service war durchweg freundlich, aufmerksam und zugleich angenehm unaufdringlich. Wir haben ganze vier Stunden dort verbracht und uns dabei pudelwohl gefühlt – ein Ort zum Wiederkommen! Vielen Dank für dieses tolle Erlebnis!

I'm here for April 28th. I had reserved a larger table by email two weeks in advance. Unfortunately we were then faced with a closed door. Without any prior cancellation or message, we were 1. very disappointed and 2. then without a table. Annoying & unfortunate because I had only heard good things about the malt room.

I haven't eaten so well in a long time!!! The service staff were all super nice and the place is uncomfortable! Thank you!!!

For me it's a really nice, rustic inn. Plus delicious food and a nice selection of beer and wine. The staff was also extremely friendly. I will definitely come here more often.

The food was really good, a quiet atmosphere, it is rather dark in the restaurant and very friendly staff. Crème Brûlée was amazing!

There are places with engaging hospitality, you immediately feel at home, the team is attentive and well-coordinated, what is on offer is exciting, and the finely coordinated menu shows a passion for detail. We are thrilled and will be visiting there more often in the future.

Very unpleasant there...there are so many nice shops in the corner that it's easy to avoid the innkeeper's snotty manner. I can't say anything about the food. It didn't come to that...

The atmosphere in the restaurant is very cosy and the food is great. I enjoyed the Malzraum salat and wine a lot.

Very nice atmosphere - you get the feeling that value is really placed here. There is something for everyone in terms of dishes and the price-performance ratio is reasonable. The food is really good. I can also only recommend the malt room for drinks. In summer there is also the option to sit down at a few tables outside - here too it is very nicely decorated and always has a cozy atmosphere

A real shame to have stumbled upon the wrong person (owner/manager/employee?) last night at closing time! We live in the neighborhood and frequent this place regularly given the kindness of the rest of the staff and the quality of the food and service. Returning home last night with my girlfriend, we wanted to have a glass of wine before going back up, aware that it might be too late. We entered and asked with extreme kindness and without expectations if it was possible to have 2 glasses of wine, even to take away eventually. The gentleman in question responds in a completely inappropriate ironic way, making fun of us in front of 2 other customers and staff, inviting us to come in, saying that they had just opened and that he was waiting for us. A rude, impolite, not even funny and useless behavior given the situation, where a "sorry we are closed and we can no longer serve drinks" would have been sufficient. Such a pity..

The burger was very tasty, the selection of drinks is very large, the service staff was extremely pleasant and friendly, the ambience was pleasant in terms of volume and well filled for a pleasant crowd on a Wednesday evening

Unverschämter Service, sehr durchschnittliches Essen und total überteuert. Besonders wenn man Feedback gibt, ist das Personal total überfordert. Uns hatte das Essen nicht so gut geschmeckt und als wir dazu ein Feedback gegeben haben, wurden wir sehr aggressiv behandelt und fast bedroht. Fazit: keinesfalls hingehen!

If you want a good , hearty meal and do not want to fall for mistakes, Malzraum will take care of you- they curate their dishes without flaw; it has quickly become one of my favourite places in Munich to celebrate special occasions. The ambience is cosy and warm ; service is good and reservations are always recommended.

We found the prices too high. You now have to order the side dishes separately, which means that it is significantly more expensive than it was six months ago. Here the price is increased dramatically so that the guest only notices when they are there. A pretty bad number. We received a rather harsh reaction to our feedback, including: we can leave if we don't like it. This is outrageous and unprofessional! Therefore only one star for the service. The ambience wasn't so nice this time because all the chairs were put up at 10 p.m. on a Saturday evening. Our conclusion: zero risk of repetition

As good as it was in 2012. Simply a very pleasant restaurant with a smaller, but really well-made menu. Waiters are friendly and respond well to requests/questions

The ambience and food are great. Very comfortable and nicely done. Super nice service. The food was very nicely prepared and extremely tasty. There's also a great beer selection. Unfortunately I think the prices are a little too high, hence the star deduction. Inflation or not, but it's a little over the top. Nevertheless, I would happily recommend it!

Overall, a nice restaurant, but the price is totally wrong. 5.30€ for a half of Augustiner...? The food was very good, but to completely remove the side dishes based on VAT and thereby make an already not cheap meal 30-40 percent more expensive is simply audacious. Unfortunately, that spoils my interest in the store because I feel like I'm being taken for a fool.

Waren mit 3 Erwachsenen und 1 Kind hier. 1 Essen wurde vergessen, auch auf Nachfrage erst nach erneuter Nachfrage Bescheid gegeben, dass das Essen vergessen wurde. Maultaschen und Roastbeef gut, Schweinsbraten leider fest und total versalzen. Apfelküchle als Nachtisch lecker aber Fruchtgeschmack im Vanilleeis?? Espresso besser als der Durchschnitt aber nicht top. Service nett aber sehr langsam. Leider keine Wiederholungsgefahr.

Schade, der gute Eindruck wurde durch die Preise zunichte gemacht. 5,30 EUR für ein Helles in einer Viertelkneipe geht nicht. Die (freundliche) Bedienung sagte selbst, dass es neulich noch 4,80 EUR gekostet hatte. Hier hat jemand den Schuss nicht gehört - ich zumindest war das erste und das letzte Mal da...

Quaint inn, nice conditions, very tasty food, only the Kaiserschmarrn wasn't as expected. Personally, it was a bit too dark and solid for me.

Super gemütliche Location, tolle Getränke und guads Essen!

Wir hatten einen tollen Abend im Malzraum. Das Tafelspitz war sehr lecker, ebenfalls das Roastbeef. Gemüse, Saucen und Bratkartoffeln waren ebenfalls sehr gut zubereitet und angerichtet. Die Desserts sind spitze. Das Tiramisu und das Pistazientörtchen waren frisch (letzteres sogar frisch gebacken) und sehr nett angerichtet. Preise für die Qualität und Menge absolut fair. Der Gastraum ist gemütlich und der Service war nett und zuvorkommend. Schade, dass es unser letzter Abend in München war.

Unser absolutes Lieblingsrestaurant, wir haben hier auch unsere Hochzeit gefeiert. Personal immer freundlich und auch wenn der Laden voll ist gut gelaunt. Sowohl die Fleischgerichte als auch die vegetarischen Optionen sind immer top (Standardbestellung: Zwiebelrostbraten und vegetarischer Burger). Wir freuen uns auch jedes Jahr auf die Spargelzeit im Malzraum. Super Getränkeauswahl, bei jedem Besuch scheint noch ein Bier dazu gekommen zu sein :) Einfach ein Wohlfühlort.

Waren an einem Freitag Abend ohne Reservierung da, aber uns wurde trotzdem noch ein Plätzchen ermöglicht. Hatten Wein, Bier, Cocktail, Schnitzel und Burger, und es war alles ganz hervorragend! Sehr schönes Restaurant mit nettem Service.

Super Wirtshaus! Die Inhaber sind super freundlich, das Essen war super lecker und der Service auch perfekt. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der Kaiserschmarrn! Ich habe noch nie so einen guten Kaiserschmarrn gegessen...

Tradition trifft Moderne. Man stelle sich ein uriges bayerisches Restaurant im hippen Berlin-Kreuzberg vor. Schwer vorzustellen? Dann ab in den malzraum. Perfekt abgestimmtes Ambiente, leckere Speisen zu berechtigt gehobenen Preisen und eine sehr große Auswahl an Bieren. Die Damen des Service sind super freundlich, zuvorkommend und flink. Mein Tipp: Wenn Du auf's Klo musst, hast Du hoffentlich im Bio-Unterricht in der Schule aufgepasst.

Ein wirklich großartiges Restaurant mit sehr guter Küche. Das Ochsentartar war genial, ebenso wie Carpaccio war auch top! Als Hauptspeise gab es Schnitzel und wirklich gute und selbstgemachte Pommes dazu. Es ist nicht zu laut und die Musik schwebt im Hintergrund. War sogar am überlegen, ob ich nächsten Tag nochmal den anderen Teil der Speisekarte probieren soll und wiederkomme! Wirklich lecker!

Eines der schönsten Restaurants, in denen ich je war. Hervorragendes Essen (gut-bürgerlicher Küche, modern interpretiert), sehr schöner Aussenbereich mit Olivenbäumen, Lichterketten und Kerzen. Wenn ich ein Restaurant eröffnen würde, dann genauso. Das nächste Mal in München ist der Malzraum ein Muss. Auch sehr freundliche Mitarbeitende. Dankeschön :)
