Lohrberg-Schänke in Frankfurt am Main

This was my first time at Lohrberg. A very nice place, great for a walk, great views, and the weather was great too. Also great for families with children, as there's a nice playground. And the Lohrberg wine is delicious.😄

Nice excursion restaurant, also very suitable for celebrations. - It was very busy when we were there. We were seated a bit hidden and therefore service was very rare. - Unfortunately my roulade was ice cold...

Es ist ziemlich schade. Der Lohrberg bietet eigentlich eine perfekte Lage für ein Ausflugsrestaurant. Auf der Website präsentiert man sich traditionell hessisch, was die Speisekarte auch genauso widerspiegelt. Doch anstatt einem Römer Pils etwa, bekommt man hier Oberdorfer Helles. Naja, damit könnte man ja noch leben, aber es ist ein Sinnbild für das gesamte Bild des Restaurant. Rundum war das Essen ok. Als Vorspeise eine Handkees Variation ist hier positiv zu bemerken. Das Schnitzel und die Bratkartoffeln schmeckten eher nach Fritteuse, als nach Pfanne. Dafür war die grüne Soße geschmacklich gut. Das größte Manko hier ist allerdings der Service. Es bedienten uns zwei verschiedene Kellner, die offenbar eine Wette untereinander hatten, wer unfreundlicher zu den Gästen ist. Obwohl wir einen Tisch reserviert hatten, musste erst das alte Geschirr von unseren Vorgängern weggeräumt werden. Weiter nicht schlimm, aber als der Kellner uns ein "Wollen Sie mir jetzt beim Eindecken zuschauen?" nannte, führte das zu Stirnrunzeln bei uns. Ich habe nichts gegen einen schön trockenen Frankfurter Humor, aber der Herr schien offensichtlich gereizt, dass er heute zur Arbeit musste. Schlimmer allerdings war die Kellnerin: Ohne Bitte und Danke wurden zügig die Bestellungen aufgenommen und angereicht. Es war generell eine Hektik in dem Laden. Auch hat mir beispielsweise ein "Hat es Ihnen geschmeckt?" gefehlt. Ich hätte also nichtmal mitteilen können, dass der Handkees sehr gut war. Beim Bestellen schaute sie schon zu anderen Tischen und Gästen, anscheinend war es ihr wichtiger möglichst schnell Geld in den Laden zu bringen. Da man uns nach dem Essen im Stich ließ, mussten wir einen Hilfskellner bitten uns die Rechnung zu bringen, er war im Grunde freundlich und sagte, dass er sich drum kümmert. Kurze Zeit kam dann die unfreundliche Bedienung mit der Rechnung. Wir baten sie doch bitte die Rechnung zu teilen, worauf sie entgegnete "Ihr hattet doch ungefähr dasselbe". Ich gebe im Normalfall immer Trinkgeld. Selbst wenn es mir nicht so gefallen hat, runde ich zumindest auf den nächst vollen Betrag auf. Allerdings habe ich es diesmal wirklich nicht eingesehen, für das arrogante Verhalten noch was oben drauf zu geben. Das kam beim Bezahlen offensichtlich nicht so gut an... Wir hatten gehofft hier ein schönes hessisches Lokal mit tollem Blick über Frankfurt zu bekommen, aber haben leider eine Touristenfalle bekommen. Dann in Zukunft doch lieber die Klassiker in Sachsenhausen, wie die Germania oder der Kanonesteppel.

It was very busy... Unfortunately, the waitress was completely alone in the restaurant and initially wasn't particularly friendly or accommodating, which is understandable when you have to serve the entire dining room on the weekend! When it was our turn, she was very professional and friendly. The appetizer arrived shortly, followed by the main course in a reasonable amount of time. For the price and the number of people served, the quality is good. At first, I was about to leave because the friendliness and professionalism were lacking, but the lady made up for it with charm and skill. Unfortunately, I don't know the lady's name, but as a boss, you're lucky to have found such employees in the restaurant industry!!! A little less pressure, and the lady sells even more (drinks, desserts, etc.). Very nice location with a great view! Perfect for a lovely evening with good home-cooked food. A lovely place to end an evening 👌🏻

Here is an extensively rewritten version of the review: We had the pleasure of celebrating at the Lohrberg Schänke with a group of 20 people and were completely thrilled. Our place in the cozy attic offered a wonderful atmosphere with rustic charm. Although the restaurant was busy and there was a wedding party taking place at the same time, the service was absolutely first class. The service was attentive, warm and surprisingly quick - no wish remained unfulfilled. What was particularly impressive was that our food was served almost at the same time, which is not a given for a large group. And the quality? Simply outstanding! Every dish was lovingly prepared, tasted to the point and left nothing to be desired. The Lohrberg Schänke gave us an unforgettable evening with its excellent service and delicious food. We'll definitely be back!

The Lohrberg-Schenke is always worth a visit. In addition to Frankfurt classics, the regularly changing menu offers numerous good alternatives from salad to wild boar goulash. You should always make a reservation at peak times. You can also get lucky on weekdays. It is definitely worth going to the Lohrberg at least once in every season. The tavern isn't far.

Went here to end my training trip for the military. Ended up meeting my Fiance here years back, although didn't know it at the time when we talked. This place was so relaxed and chill, great low-key vibes and great beer. Really glad I got the free time that last night to stop here. This was such a great place to grab some beers and enjoy the night and overlook Frankfurt. I hope to eventually make it back here.

It was my first time here and I was very pleasantly surprised at how close to Frankfurt you can sit in such a lovely rural setting. The food was very tasty (Frankfurter Schnitzel) and the view from the beer garden over Frankfurt is simply great. We will cycle to the Lohrberg-Schänke more often in the future!

On the way to Frankfurt for a concert we were looking for a place to stop for a break. Because of the good reviews and the positive website, we decided to stay here. The place was lavishly filled, in the style of a Hofbräuhaus. We sat down at a table. We ordered the knuckle and the pan feta. Both were large portions and extremely tasty! Really! And at a great price! You can park nearby, but you have to walk a good 3 minutes.

We ordered schnitzel, which unfortunately wasn't cooked through. At first we wanted to take our food with us, but then we decided to eat inside because it was getting too cold outside. Instead of simply bringing us plates, the waitress rudely told us that we weren't allowed to eat out of the cardboard box - and then even expelled us from the restaurant! Before she even spoke to us, she gave the table above our heads to other guests. This is definitely not how you treat customers! Very disappointing - we won't be coming back here.

I've made reservations for groups several times and this time we were in the Jägerstube under the roof, but "nice" is different. You could do something pretty there :-) So what, as motorcyclists we are used to “sorrow” and took it easy. The service and food were great as always! Thanks and see you next time!

We were there on the second holiday and ate with 10 people. The prices were adjusted for Christmas - with 2 people for 84 euros - that was impressive - the drinks were also worth a princely sum. The service was overloaded and probably generated from 535€ of effort, the food was mixed up, the first one was finished and then the last one got their food. Coziness is different, the door was constantly opening and closing, it was as fast as a wind tunnel - and cold too. This year we are reconsidering our choice in more detail. Too bad. No comparison to summer.

Good and beautiful location on Frankfurt's Lohrberg in the Lohrbergpark with great distant views and, when the weather is nice like today, great sunsets with a view of the Frankfurt skyline. Delicious food at moderate prices, but with large portions. Many local dishes are interpreted in a subtle, modern way, for example 2 wild boar sausages with sauce, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and cranberry mustard, delicious. Friendly, quick service, clean toilets and beautiful walking and hiking opportunities in the area, what more could you want. The only limitation is the limited space in the restaurant and the parking spaces. On the other hand, with unlimited space for both, it would certainly lose its cozy charm and lead to mass production.

Disastrous staff, I haven't experienced such uncoordinated and chaotic service for a long time. First we stood at the entrance for quite some time as ordered and not picked up. Several employees saw us, but no one felt the need to greet us, let alone ask how we could be helped. At some point we sat down at a table that didn't have a reserved sign on it. We waited there again for a long time and in vain for someone to ask us if we wanted to order something. After the blonde waitress had finished her long gossip, she came to us. We had been there since 4:30 p.m. but due to non-compliance it was almost 5 p.m. when we wanted to order a coffee. We also wanted to order cake, but they didn't want to offer it to us anymore and when we just wanted something to drink, we were sent to the smoky cubicle outside where terrible music was playing and we had to squeeze in a crowd of people . No thanks. You won't get a cent from me for this. And never again in the future. It's a shame that they're so focused on maximizing sales instead of customer satisfaction that you're only a welcome guest if you order meals. As satisfied coffee guests, we would definitely have come back for dinner because it looked good. But not like that, because there are enough restaurants that offer good food and good service. It's a shame that there is only one gastronomic facility on the Lohrberg.

Awesome place to watch New Year's celebrations

We were there with friends and "invaded" there with "man and mouse" and a stroller. The staff was very, very friendly and helpful, responded to our request to change tables and worked very quickly and carefully despite the restaurant being completely booked! The food was good, the ambience could get a lot more points if the dining room was spruced up. The walk to the restaurant is manageable, I don't want to have to walk it in the rain and wind! It's definitely really great there in the summer in the beer garden!

For days no one answers the phone to accept a reservation. When I reached someone after three days, a reservation was no longer possible...I should have called earlier. People just said “Hello” and were totally unnerved. In the past, the food there was always great.

The tavern is legendary for me, the location with the view of Frankfurt is special. The food was really good, as was the service initially. Anyone can understand why we weren't allowed to order drinks or dessert for more than an hour despite several attempts. The “excuse” when paying would have helped.

The sheet cake was great. Huge pieces. However, we were squeezed into a full round table. The 3 other free large tables were reserved, but were not occupied while we were away, so it felt pointless to sit crammed together.

Yesterday we had our company Christmas party in the tavern. What I found remarkable was that everything related to the organization and implementation went simply SMOOTHLY. Special thanks and recognition go to our hosts Ricky and Josie (hopefully it's okay to mention their names here), who looked after us professionally, quickly, unobtrusively and confidently. When we asked, Ricky gave us tips about the kitchen, took 11 people's orders from memory and later still knew exactly who wanted what - even the extra sausages. He also quickly served the neighboring tables (at least 30 people in the room). The food was delicious, the portions were huge, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and the service was super fast. At the end there was an unexpected little something as a gift from the house - a big thank you on behalf of the company. We were there for the second time and our entire team was really excited about the house again. We'll definitely come back. I hope Ricky and Josie are treated well by everyone, it was noticed that they knew what they were doing - and that they enjoyed doing it. People like that on the team are priceless!

Great location! The lady who met us with an ambitious young boy (probably a temporary worker) on November 30th. "Served" at the family celebration in the afternoon, was terribly unfriendly and reminded of the old times of the Schlecker employees. We (several guests) were allowed or had to tell her that. That's why this comment. I come from Munich, Bavaria also has great views of nature and lakes, mountains etc. And good food, no green sauce. However, if I say that I wouldn't go to the Lohrberg-Schänke again because of these employees, then that might be unfortunate, but it's true.

Nice excursion restaurant on the Lohrberg near Frankfurt. Great view of Frankfurt. Nice beer garden. Always well attended. Home-style cooking, delicious sheet cake in the afternoon. About 5 minutes walk from the parking lot. In summer it is quite crowded there and the parking lots are often overcrowded. Bus stops right at the parking lot, so a good alternative. Also very nice area for walks.

Reserved for six adults plus two children. Were seated at a small table Squeezed into the next room. Waitress obviously not an expert, very rude. Service had the charm of a train station bar. No questions asked if everything is ok. Food OK. The crowning glory: leftovers have to be taken away Guests themselves can be packed in to-go boxes. Thank you, never again.

Saturday evening. A reserved table for seven people. The dining room is packed full. Every chair space is utilized. When we arrive, the tables are rearranged again and more chairs are brought in from outside. My chair is at the back of a pillar. Luckily I don't need a lot of space, but I still hang on the edge of the table. It's unbearably loud. Normal conversation at the table is impossible for the entire evening. Even the hard-working staff loses track of things. In the kitchen, speed takes precedence over quality. Our food order goes missing. Only when we notice that the guests who arrived late are eating do we complain and receive the food we ordered within a few minutes. The kitchen can do that. Food at beer tent level. With the masses that are swept out of the kitchen within a short period of time, you can't expect anything else. You have to look elsewhere for nicely prepared food. One of our group complained about the food being barely touched. This does not appear on the invoice either. Anyway. I had to apologize to my group from Berlin to the Hintertaunus for choosing the Lorberg for our meeting. Never ever, eating out like this is no fun, just trouble

Reservierung vor Monaten, zwischendurch Fragen ob alles ok. Antwort: Keine bzw. Ignoranz. Am Termin: 30 Minuten draußen in der Kälte und bei Regen gewartet bis der reservierte Tisch endlich frei war. Am Wochenende viel zu wenig Personal. Stammkunden (2Personen) wurden natürlich bevorzugt bedient. Keinesfalls am Wochenende zu empfehlen, wenn man Freunden von auswärts etwas Besonderes bieten will. Abfertigung vom Feinsten! Das Essen kann man dann auch nicht nehr genießen. Erstaunlich, dass es so schnell kommt... Rechnung dann auf dem Zettel... Kopfrechnen kann ich besser. Da die Taxis schon bestellt waren, habe ich den "Fehlbetrag" übernommen. Nie wieder !

We left after a long wait without being served. We thought it was a shame, but the Lohrbergschänke also lacks service staff, like everywhere else.

An institution. The location with a view of the city is excellent. The service was quick and very friendly. The food was tasty with decently sized portions. Parking possible about 5 minutes walk away. Unfortunately, the dining room is very cramped and loud. Therefore, an unreserved tip for the summer. In winter there are quieter places. Reservation required.

The Lohrberg-Schänke is much more than just a classic excursion restaurant! The menu offers well-known classics such as schnitzel, which are refined with regional and seasonal ingredients. Particularly noteworthy is the schnitzel with cream sauce and porcini mushrooms – a real treat! The side salad served with it impresses with a wonderfully balanced dressing. The dessert menu is clear, but what we tried was delicious. We will definitely come back more often, especially since the tavern is open both in summer and winter and offers a large terrace. A visit is definitely worth it – highly recommended!

Beautiful beer garden on the Lohrberg surrounded by meadows, grape vines and apple trees. Delicious dishes and great cider. Unfortunately the service is subpar. The waitresses are all friendly, but on nice days they are hopelessly understaffed. There were also difficulties with the kitchen, so that dishes came out wrong or incomplete. If this problem is corrected, I would happily recommend it.

Beautifully located on Frankfurt's local mountain. However, the service was impossible. The sunny part of the beer garden is closed. I was also not allowed to drink a drink that I had bought in the restaurant. I was offered to drink my wheat on a park bench. Guys, are you still okay??

Update: We visited the Lohrbergschänke again on October 11th, 2024. The food was again very good and (almost) everything was good. Unfortunately, we didn't check the bill immediately when paying because we were charged one drink too much. The waiter probably assigned it to the wrong table in the rush (it can happen). Still, we felt a bit ripped off. We therefore advise everyone to only pay after checking the invoice carefully. We also find it a shame and unprofessional that our email was not replied to. Apparently they don't think this is necessary, which really annoyed us. That's why I have to deduct two stars from my rating. On the occasion of a trip to Frankfurt's local mountain, we finally stopped at the Lohrbergschänke. There is a large beer garden area - but we sat inside because of the wasps, among other things. All wooden tables and chairs with lots of decorations on the wall, that's how you imagine the typical interior of a Frankfurt pub/restaurant. The daily menu includes many Hessian and Frankfurt specialties. We really enjoyed the food, which we didn't have to wait long for. I barely finished my schnitzel because the size of the side salad could almost pass for a salad plate (see photos). Good value for money given the decent portions and for Frankfurt standards. The service, which you are called by, was friendly and attentive. Conclusion: We can recommend the Lohrbergschänke in every respect, not just because of the great location.

We have often come here. Unfortunately, last time it was a bit bizarre. The cards were placed on the table without much greeting. The ordered dishes were on the table within two minutes and even before the side salad. The French fries that came with one plate were cold and the obvious rest of the dish. However, upon request, these were replaced - although not in the form of the plate being rearranged by the kitchen, but rather the cold french fries remained on the plate and a bowl of hot french fries was placed on the table. The quality of the food served was otherwise above average. We visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening with a reservation. It was apparently fully booked. Nevertheless, I expect a little more professionalism even in such a situation.

Miserable service, as a guest you are randomly transferred, of course to a much worse table. Immediately afterwards, the original table was also given to 2 people, although the argument for moving it was that it would be needed for several people. When asked about this, an unbelievable apology was made. Never again!!!!
