Lode & Stijn in Berlin

Well, the restaurant will be closing soon. The two of us wanted to get another impression and have a nice evening. A terrible atmosphere for a 1 star restaurant. Wooden chairs without upholstery or padded bench simple. Wooden table varnished so that it looks relaxed and at the same time saves 1500 euros in white laundry per month. Guest room noisy and too cold in winter, heating on level 5 lukewarm. The person sitting next to you at the table should wear simple, thick sweaters and not designer clothes, which are not shown here. A blouse or something similar is not possible as it would cost too much due to the temperatures. A record player plays black vinyl with very special music, often so loud that you can't hear the person sitting next to you at the table. If the music is turned down, it is quickly turned up again... The service sometimes seems thrown together or provided by temporary employment agencies. Preferably in English and poor German. All in all, you celebrate yourself in the special way of the boss in the house until the bitter end of the establishment. In terms of food, there are only 8 course menus yes or no. Optional corresponding wines. The wines were more of a mediocre accompaniment, but matched the courses. In principle, the kitchen can do more than the restaurant offers in its own way. When it ends in mid-December, the operator will rethink its concept. Too casual and “special” for a star, too expensive for anything less. Just an attempt to make fine dining trendy in Kreuzberg. Unfortunately, the spirit of the times is changing more and more quickly. Result of the evening 500 euros for two, in a special atmosphere with very competent cuisine. Others can do that better in Berlin...we felt entertained, but unfortunately not picked up.

If I could give 10 stars , I would ! Most professional and friendly service I ever seen in Berlin. They can definitely teach the high class restaurants how to treat clients. Ole is the most professional cemelie ever , very passionate and knowledgeable . Me and my friend felt really exclusive in dining . I wish them many more successes and I would def come again to any place they choose. Thank you again

Exquisite food, very pure flavours, welcoming and passionate staff, very interesting wines and wine pairings presented by a young talented sommelier who presented her wines with so much passion and joy that it really made our dining experience complete!

Es war durchwachsen. Der Service könnte aufmerksamer sein zumal sie sehr gut gestafft waren und das Essen hat uns leider gar nicht gefallen. Viele Gänge sehr fad, ungewürzt und teilweise einfach frech. Wir hatten gehofft, dass so tolle, regionale Produkte mehr wertgeschätzt werden. Preis-Leistung ist hier leider nicht stimmig.

One of my favorite Dinners ever!!!

I had been wanting to eat here for a while, and was not disappointed. Enjoyed every dish, and each one was surprising in its own way. Scallops were a favourite. The service was incredible, extremely passionate and knowledgeable both for the food and the drinks. Highly recommended!

Ich hatte mein Dessert mit Schokolade abbestellt, da mir so einen Nachspeise zu mächtig ist und bekam ganz überraschend eine leichte Nachspeise. Darüber habe ich mich sehr gefreut! Wir hatten uns gegen Weinbegleitung entschieden. Der Sommelier hat uns einen passenden Flaschenwein zum Menü empfohlen. Sehr gerne empfehlen wir dieses Restaurant weiter!

Abgesehen von den hervorragenden Speisen auch die beste nichtalkoholische Essensbegleitung, die ich je hatte

It’s the second time I visit lode and stijn. And it’s the second time I’m disappointed. I brought my girl friend there and we were sat with another couple so no intimacy at all. It’s something I don’t mind when I go to Sahara Imbiss (no judgement value, I love Sahara Imbiss) but from a fine dining restaurant I would expect having our own table. The waiter recognized me so told me « it’s your second time here ? » Bad luck the first time was with my ex there 2 years ago so I had to explain to my new girlfriend who I was with the first time. If you don’t recognize the girl then don’t say anything ?! We have been asked if we wanted the cheese platter, she said yes but it never arrived. How can one ask and then forget ? write it down on paper if you have no memory. In the end the owner forced me to tip. I tip when I’m satisfied which happens 95% of the time and in all kinds of restaurant but I had honestly one of the worst meal of my life this day. About the food and taste, I can’t deny these guys know how to cook meats and fishes but that’s it. There is no magic, no emotions. I can recommend dozens of fine dining restaurants where I felt that spark but definitely not this one. Only good point : we appreciated the music. All in all, I gave them a second chance but there won’t be any third time. I guarantee. This restaurant is only fine dining restaurant in terms of price and number of dishes. But there is no class at all. One advise for the restaurant : focus a bit less on the Instagram account and a bit more on the service. One advise for you reader : don’t waste your money there if you care about being well treated and you want a truly amazing taste experience.

Das Lode & Stijn hat mir einen wirklich unglaublich schönen kulinarischen Abend beschert. Das Menü ist abwechslungsreich und stets sehr auf die Produkte fokussiert. Teilweise überraschende Kombinationen, die bei jedem Gang perfekt abgestimmt waren. Dazu eine sehr schöne Weinbegleitung, die sehr viele (mir) unbekannte Weine und Rebsorten umfasste und dabei erfreulich viele Naturweine umfasste. Insgesamt ein tolles Erlebnis!

I had seen the place a while ago and we were finally able to go there. The atmosphere is pretty clean and the food was delicious. Throughout the menu the quality was high and extra wishes were taken care of. The service was good. Definitely a good choice for special occasions.

This past week marked my second visit to Lode & Stijn. The first was as a birthday present nearly five years ago; the second was as an anniversary gift. Both times marked special occasions — and proved to be extraordinary. This time, my partner and I were offered an exciting series of dishes and wine — the most creatively delicious yet equally down-to-earth that I’ve experienced in Berlin — which was surpassed only by the quality of service. Being at Lode & Stijn felt like being among the best of friends or family; many of the staff, but in particular Ahriad and Ole, offered a sense of alignment and trust that I have never before experienced at a restaurant, let alone one of fine dining. A heartfelt thanks to you two for lifting up our evening, especially in light of the unexpectedly challenging external circumstances. I hope to have the opportunity to return, even if it be in another five years.

Everything is sumptuous and delicious. The service was impeccable. It feels relaxed without losing any quality. They transform local products into dreamy experiences - and so much better than other fine dining local product restaurants (with Michelin stars) in Berlin. Thank you!

A great experience. The food and the wine pairing just amazing. The somalier cares for a special "touch" when explaining the wines. I've been to few Michelin star restaurants where after getting the bill I felt like it wasn't worth it. Definitely not this time!

Modern, elegant and wholesome food, service was extremely attentive without overbearing. Waiting staff and sommelier for both wine and non-alcoholic pairing were extremely likeable and passionate. Nothing uneasy about the place, cozy and tasteful interior, no foam in every plate like in old haute cuisine. Our four hours here felt effortless.

Wir waren zu zweit gestern Abend da und hatten einen bombastischen Abend. Der Sommelier hat mit viel Wissen und viel Freude an seinen Beruf, uns Wein technisch super durch den Abend begleitet. Der Service an sich war einfach richtig gut. Die puristische, Produkt orientierte aber auch spielerische Küche ist einfach herausragend und man merkt das jeder die Liebe zum Essen hegt. Vielen Dank dafür und absolute weiter Empfehlung!

Too expensive for what you get. Tasty food, but only 2/8 courses really special and remarkably good. 100€ per course on Thursdays, 80€ for Weinbegleitung. My favourite was the delicious home made bread with butter! But you don't need to spend that much for getting all the other courses.

Mehr Tammtamm als tatsächlich serviceorientiert. Super schlechte Kommunikation, auf die Wünsche des Kunden wird nicht eingegangen. Gemessen an dem, was man dort umsetzt, ist der Service wirklich herausragend unprofessionell. Beruflich bedingt halte ich mich öfter in Restaurants dieses Niveaus auf. Jedoch selten mit einem derarten Unwillen, auf die Kund*innen einzugehen. Auf keinen Fall werde ich dieses Restaurant Geschäftspartnern noch einmal empfehlen.

A curious experience. We took the wine pairing to go with the meal but the pacing was all wrong. Often we would receive the wine (enthusiastically given, the sommelier was excellent), but the food course would not arrive for another 15-20 minutes, making the pairing experience non existent. In total we were there around 3.5 hours where a solo diner had come and gone in that time. The food itself was a little hit and miss, some dishes were very good while others felt a little flat. For the price point I had higher expectations

Lode & Stijn, which lies in the fashionable Friedrichhain, offers a set menu at 100,- or 115,- depending on the day of the week, sources its ingredients from named producers and has a Michelin green star. In stead of the suggested aperitif we opted for a bottle of wine. The waiters reaction implied this was an odd thing to do. The wine list is quite something with interesting and niche wines, and could use country/region headers, fortunately the sommelier, which is quite a story teller, helped us pick a 2019 Rully Les Mazieres which turned out very nice, also as an aperitif! The 3 amuses, a spinach roll, bitterballs and flowery toast tasted pure and mildly interesting. I thought the same of the vegetables, wild salmon and zucchini starters. Then came the question if we would like to extend our menu with an extra course of marinated coquilles (at 25,-) and since I love those I could not resist. I am glad to say it was really good! Our bottle of wine ran out, so we started to follow the wine paring suggestions. The veal main course was nice. Then another extension, cheese (at 15,-) which we skipped. The deserts were nice. The wine-paring of the dry cider with strawberry desert was very interesting. The coquilles were great. The other courses ok. I don't like surprise extensions to the menu especially if they turn out to be the highlight. In short: to expensive for what it offers.

Very nice hidden gem in Kreuzberg. Super nice fixed 6 courses menu and superb wine pairing. The waiters are very relaxed but professional and like to make a joke! For sure would have dinner there again!

Restaurant excellent. Le menu unique en plusieurs courses est délicieux, le pairage avec le vins le sublimera. Le sommelier est super et la selection de vin diverse et très fine. L'endroit est propre est accueillant. Endroit Ideal pour un diner en couple ou en famille pour un événement spécial. Les plats de la carte changent régulièrement pour notre plus grand plaisir.

A Michelin recommendation. Great restaurant with selected products. Recommended place for vegetarians. The place is simply decorated, but the dishes are divine. You must be ready for 3 hours meal.

Leider hatten wir eine nicht so gute Erfahrung. Der Service war etwas von oben herab, der Sommelier war nur peripher für uns erreichbar, wenn es um das Bestellen neuer Weine ging. Das Essen war nicht warm. Auf Nachfrage bekamen wir nur eine patzige Antwort.

Hands down the best restaurant experience I've had in Berlin so far. Michelin star is overdue.

Really tasty food, combining very well seasonal products, and served with greatly fitting natural wines or alcohol free drinks. The attention to the details of the cuisine, the fine descriptions of the waiter and the wine context provided by the sommelier made us spend a fantastic evening. Plan 3 to 4 hours to go through the entire menu!

Der Abend bei Lode& Stijn war wirklich sehr schön, die Gerichte sind Exzellent und der Wein ebenfalls sehr gut. Was uns in der Preisklasse dann etwas gestört hat, war der Wechsel der Bedienung im Laufe des Abends, es wirkte danach unpersönlicher und die Beschreibung der Gerichte wurde einfach super schnell und wie einstudiert runter gerattert. Als wir am Ende dann unsere Rechnung von 360€ bezahlt hatten, kam weder ein danke, noch ob es uns gefallen hat und wir mussten unsere Jacken in der Garderobe selbst heraussuchen… auch gab es kein Auf Wiedersehen/gute Nacht etc. Es war zwar ein gelungener Abend, aber das Ende hätte schöner sein können, da man ja nicht alle Tage in ein Sterne Restaurant geht.

Für mich die seit langem beste Fine Dining experience in Berlin. Von der einfallsreichen exzellenten Küche über den mal wirklich kompetenten Sommelier und dem sehr netten Service. Endlich mal Leute, die wirklich etwas können, statt das nur vorzuspielen und sich hypen zu lassen. Sehr befriedigend und schön, selbst noch am nächsten Tag.

Für das Geld zu schlechtes Essen. Bedienung nicht sehr kompetent. Verwechselt häufig die Gäste, bringt falsches zum Tisch. Atmosphäre angenehm. Alles in allem das Geld nicht wert. Es gibt besseres in Berlin.

Eine erstklassige Adresse! Wir haben hervorragend gegessen und hatten dazu die alkoholfreie Begleitung. Diese war eine gelungene Überraschung den sie war nicht minder hervorragend. Abgestimmt auf die verschiedenen Gänge komplett selbst gemacht bis auf das alkoholfreie schwedische Craft Bier. Vom ersten bis zum letzten Gang ein Gaumengenuss begleitet von kompetenten freundlichen Erklärungen des engagierten Teams. Die Atmosphäre und die Einrichtung rundeten dieses Erlebnis ab. Wir kommen definitiv wieder! Vielen Dank

The attention to detail and customer-centric experience that they offer really just take this place over the top. We were even contacted the day before our reservation to double confirm that we had not dietary restrictions. The food is simply sublime! One of the best experiences we have had to date. The service was very friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the food was simple but executed with the utmost finesse so that you could really taste how all the ingredients worked together to produce a harmonious dish. We are looking forward to come during every season to taste the evolution of the menu :)

We ate here one weekday evening, booking ahead (note, there is a hefty no-show fee). The ambience is pleasant, although one of our party found the bench seating uncomfortable. The staff were friendly, although did not know the answers to some of our (fairly basic) questions about the food. You can have a complex mix of set menu with add-ons, with set wine menu or just separate glasses from it. There are lots of amuses to start, all very pretty; pork tartare was particularly charming. A first course of mackerel salad with pear was interesting. Mussels with cabbage likewise; tasty broth. The entree of lamb with eggplant was ok, although the baba ghanoush was a little spicy for my taste, and I would have preferred the lamb less well-done. There were 2 good cheeses, with rose-hip jam. The only dish that really excited us was the dessert of warm cooked plums with sorrel sorbet - excellent! The wines were served with much enthusiasm and background detail; passing around a piece of "terroir" with one, for all to handle, seemed curiously covid-insensitive. I wouldn't go again.

Ich gebe 5 Sterne, aber haben zwischenzeitlich zu 4 tendiert. Warum 4 - siehe unten. Warum letztlich 5: Essen ist hervorragend, Service super nett. Wohlfühlambiente. Wir hatten: Amuse: Tatar, Bitterballen, Melonen/Gurken Sauerteigbrot Rotbarbe Tomaten/Muscheln Zwischengang: Wolfsbarsch Hauptgang: Kalb Käse Sauerampfersorbet Speisen waren hervorragend. Keine negative Kritik. Ich habe zwischen 4 und 5 Sternen geschwankt. Das Essen war so gut, dass ich 5 gebe, aber folgende Kritik: Weinbegleitung: War passend, aber ganz ganz überwiegend Naturweine. Das hätten wir gerne vorher gewusst. Hätten dann eine Flasche gewählt statt der Begleitung. Fast nur Naturwein ist too much. Zwischengang: Herrlich. Aber mit 40 Euro auf der Rechnung. Angekündigt als Überraschungs-Zwischengang. In anderen Restaurants der Preis- und Qualitätsklasse wurden wir immer auf Extrakosten und die Höhe hingewiesen. Hätte ich auch hier erwartet. Ihr verdient den Stern, aber das muss besser sein. Käse: Das mag jetzt unser Fehler sein, aber stand mit 2 Portionen und 18 Euro auf der Rechnung. Wir haben sehr klar gesagt, dass es nur eine Portion sein darf und die soll klein sein. Mein Mann isst nie Käse, nur ich. Hätten wir bei der Rechnung monieren müssen, nicht gecheckt. Sehr ärgerlich. Ich hätte den Käse gar nicht auf der Rechnung erwartet.

Had an amazing menu diner with a wine tasting journey that we’ve started in France, through Italy and Spain and finished with a delicious German wine. Totally recommend this lovely place, they know what they do!

Das Lode & Stijn ist eines meiner Lieblingsrestaurants in Berlin. Das Essen ist grossartig und Preis-Leistung ist in Ordnung. Die Weinbegleitung war gut und passte hervorragend zum Essen. Personal wie immer sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Jederzeit eine Empfehlung.

Good honest food. Not creative though. The service, I am mixed. We had all personalities: smiling , helpful but also a small dash of arrogance. Example: I didn’t hear the explanation of a dish, and when the waitress replied she said “in case it isn’t clear [implying that I should recognise the dish from looking at it], it is tartar.” But maybe I ll go back again and may experience a different atmosphere.

Die Küche ist schon etwas besonderes. Das Team ist kreativ und der Gaumen bekommt einiges um die Ohren. Nicht alles was seinen Weg in meinem Mund fand, fand der Gaumen toll oder beeindruckend, aber das ist letztendlich Geschmackssache. Das Serviceteam ist superaufmerksam und freundlich. Jede Speise wird erklärt. Zum Team gehört auch ein Sommelier. Es lohnt sich ihm zuzuhören.

Great quality food, delicious menu. We went in January 2020 and had the extra course which was pike perch with beurre blanc and pickled elderflower - delicious. The rest of the regular menu was also very good - starts with several amuse-bouche, followed by 6 courses (7 including the optional). Their bread is truly fantastic, I am a passionate sourdough baker and appreciate good bread a lot. If there was one thing I didn't like it was their dessert which had too many sour and bitter components that weren't balanced enough by the sweet Pavlova, at least for my taste. Maybe I am not a sour desserts person though. Will definitely be returning!

Dank des sehr sehr netten Personal(s) - ja, wir hatten bestimmt 3 über den Abend hinweg - wussten wir dann sehr schnell, wie die Bestellung der Gerichte funktioniert. ALLES was wir bekommen hatten, was ein Traum! Fein, speziell, außergewöhnlich, frisch! Es war teuer aber alles war seinen Preis wert! Danke liebes Lode & Stijn Team für den tollen Abend!

I was looking forward to going to Lode & Stijn given the good reviews but unfortunately it was nothing to rave about. The service is all over the place and we were served food by everyone including the front of house, sommelier and the chef (and so no one really knew what was going on). The main issue however was the veryyy long wait between courses (and with a paired menu, this meant us waiting around with nothing to drink!). We had to complain several times but it didn’t get us far - in total the 6 course menu took us 4 hours to get through which is quite remarkable. It’s a shame because the food itself was good - but they need to get a better hand on the service because it really did affect the night.

Although we had a pleasant evening, we would not go here again. It is simply too expensive for what it is. The food is good, but not great and lacks creativity. We had some good wines, but the pairing could be better. We expected more for the price (we paid 300 Euros for 2; 5-course menu + wine pairing and an extra cheese course). Friendly staff.

Lovely space, friendly staff, interesting dishes and goood wines. Totally worth a visit. Charming overall! Busy and vibrant.

Amazing place, amazing food, so full of heart snd soul because the heart snd soul of both chefs are into every single dish. They are floating around each table explaining each dish which is an elegant, exquisite and refined experience in every bite. Highly recommended, and so UNLIKE the typically disappointing famous chef restaurants (e.g., Puck, Morimoto, Ramsay etc.) who just slap their names on restaurants and pass the baton to staff members and chefs who lack passion and deliver an average to ok culinary experience.

We enjoyed every single minute, every dish, the exellent wines, the perfect service. The interior design, the gentle athmosphere, and the Lode&Stijn tandem in kitchen and restaurant is just a perfect match. Difficult to say which dish we liked the most. The amazing combination of flavours, the fresh ingredients, the delicate presentation, just great! Thanks to the whole team for the great evening. We'll be back!

What a fabulous Berlin restaurant. The passion for the locally sourced produce is evident through out the menu and the wine pairing is incredible. The sommelier...what a story teller. If you’re in Berlin, do yourself a favour and head to Lode & Stijn.

Mein Mann und ich finden die Preise ebenfalls vollkommen Fair. Das Gasthaus ist echt äußerst stilvoll eingerichtet. Keine cheap Deko, sondern es war farblich vieles überaus lieblich auf einander angepasst. Gerne komme ich da mit meinen Angehörigen her und kann mich darauf verlassen meisterhaft bedient zu werden. Probiert jene gute Küche, auf der Speisekarte ist in der Richtlinie für jeden was dabei.

Delicious bread, fresh crispy vegetables and a few delighful combinations. Unfortunately detracting from the experience were the lack of balance in the pear/beet/yoghurt combination and the staff's strange obsession with the sugar content of their wines

Insgesamt von der experience und dem Essen her, stimmt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Ebenso das striktlose Ambiente durch das zurückhaltende trotzdem sehr schönem innnedesign, fand ich bei unserem Aufenthalt von 3,5h sehr entspannt! Einzig nur, dass die Kellnerin mit Pony und Brille gefragt hat, ob das Trinkgeld direkt auf die Karte gebucht werden soll, nachdem man ihr sie grad ausgehängt hat, fand ich ein wenig unpassend. Wir geben Trinkgeld immer in bar (geht ja in manchen Restaurants nicht auf Karte). Jedenfalls mussten wir ihr das zwei mal auf ihrer Nachfrage sagen, bevor sie gewillt war, die Karte in das Kartengerät zu stecken. Ähm ok, weird - macht man nicht?! Vor allem war sie die einzige, die unaufmerksam war und verdammt leise gesprochen hat.

The kombucha juices were far better than the juice pairing at Noma. My family and I tried the rose one and the shrub one. Every dish was wholesome, light and perfect for the summer. You could really taste the natural ingredients. The sizings were also perfect, we never felt overstuffed or rushed at any point in the meal. Was healthy and delicious and we enjoyed every moment of it. The desserts were insane. Hope to come back again soon

We loved everything about our evening at Lode & Stijn. The tasting menu and wine pairing worked perfectly and the service was excellent. The seasonal menu was vibrant and the wine pairings were thoughtful and well chosen. We've been so pleased to expand our experience with German wine varieties less prevalent in the US, and L&S added to that growing list. Our evening was a perfect combination of a comfortable setting and host, and creative, fulfilling meal. Will happily recommend this restaurant to friends coming to Berlin.

Auch wenn das Menü alles in allem lecker war, kann ich unser Dinner nicht als gelungene experience abspeichern. Vor allem der Service hat leider nicht gut geklappt. Das lässige entspannte Konzept ist angenehm, allerdings wurde mir nicht einmal das Besteck rechts auf den Tisch gelegt, der Teller einfach weg gezogen, ohne sich nach dem Geschmack zu erkundigen, Getränke zu spät gebracht, etc. Hier würde ich bei dem Preis doch deutlich mehr Sorgfalt erwarten. Der Fisch in den Gängen war jeweils ausgezeichnet, aber die Beilagen meist flach und unspektakulär. Sorry, war wohl mein erster und letzter Besuch bei euch.

Fantastic restaurant. The ambiance is relaxed and beautiful, and the menu is a simple deal: six dishes at a fixed price with drink options by the glass or bottle, with a possibility of wine pairing. The service was done by the sommelier and the two chefs, Lode and Stijn. The food is simply fantastic. Every dish has character, layered flavors and done with top execution skills, and of course delicious. The pacing of the dinner is perfect and the price is totally commensurate to quality of the dinner.

O melhor restaurante em que comemos de Berlim. Menu degustação excelente. Ótimo atendimento, garçons atenciosos e que conheciam e explicavam o que estavam servindo. Ótimos vinhos. Ambiente muito agradável. Mas tudo isso tem um preço, naturalmente. Preço justo, mas caro. Voltaria com certeza.

Probably a little of the beaten track but a great place. Definitely go for the wine pairing. (Always funny to be served in Dutch when abroad.)
