Kuro Mori in Freiburg im Breisgau

We went to Kuro Mori for lunch on Saturday to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant is centrally located in the pedestrian zone and is very stylishly furnished – the open kitchen creates a lively and pleasant atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Although my gluten intolerance was initially "forgotten" (I had mentioned it when making the reservation), they were all the more attentive afterward. I should also mention that they noticed it before the first course even arrived! The food was absolutely delicious – true comfort food with intense flavors. The lentil dish with cauliflower and wild shrimp was particularly impressive – the acidity, the spiciness... it had it all! The value for money is excellent: We paid €180 (including tip) for the four-course lunch menu, oysters, a non-alcoholic aperitif, water, and espressos for two people. We will definitely be back – perhaps next time in the evening to try the wider selection of dishes.

We had lunch at Kuro Mori again today. We come all the way from Schluchsee to Freiburg specifically to enjoy this superb cuisine, and it was, as always, world-class. For me, it's the best restaurant in Freiburg.

Modern restaurant with modern interpretations of food; vegetarian options are available, but rather bland. Tapas portions are too small.

It was another wonderful and enjoyable evening at Kuro Mori. From the appetizer to the main course and dessert, everything was excellent. The atmosphere is very cozy, and watching the chefs at work in the open kitchen is fascinating. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious, even if you sit a little too close to your neighbor for my taste. But I think the service and the food more than make up for it. A truly wonderful experience, every time :)

A very well-located, beautifully decorated restaurant with comfortable seating and exceptionally good food. The selection of drinks is also excellent and complements the artistic dishes on offer. From vegetarian to fish and meat, everything is offered, and each dish is an individual masterpiece.

Excellent food, but the owner completely ruined the experience. We were a group of 16 people traveling together and chose Kuro Mori with great expectations. The food was truly excellent, and our waiter was friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the owner’s behavior overshadowed everything positive. She tried to charge us for four bottles of water that were never brought to the table, at €6 each. The bottles that were served were refilled in the restaurant, not mineral water, and some were brought without being ordered, which caused understandable confusion. There was also a misunderstanding with the wine: the glasses contained only 0.10 L, and we were told they would be refilled later. When the bill arrived, both pours were charged as separate glasses. Despite the disagreement, we offered to pay the full amount, but the owner reacted shouting, making a scene, and even refusing to take the payment. Such a pity, because the food and the waiter’s service were outstanding — but the owner showed a complete lack of manners and professionalism. We wouldn’t return and cannot recommend this place, especially considering the prices and the way we were treated.

What a fantastic evening. Kuro Mori and Markus Dirr as guest chefs. A fantastic menu with delicious wine pairing. Before that, an amuse-bouche and sparkling wine. What more could you want? Very attentive, friendly service and delicious food. We're already looking forward to returning.

Elegant fusion restaurant in the heart of Freiburg. We book a table in occasion of my 30th birthday on a Saturday, and unfortunately despite the reservation, we waited for 45 minutes at the restaurant’s bar. As starters we had the beef tartar, the wild crispy prawns and some delicious sourdough bread with miso butter. Then the schnitzel tonkatsu with a miso-hollandaise sauce and veal cheeks. Finally, we had their version of the Black Forest cherries. In general the food is prepared with care and awareness, the different tastes from the German and the Asian cuisine meet in a sweet spot. We particularly liked the miso-based sauces (e.g. their butter or the hollandaise), the way meat was cooked or fried (e.g. the veal cheeks were spot on) and in general the restaurant atmosphere, with their open kitchen. Cocktails were great too! Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment. The taste was mostly bland; I've had better fusion food at a snack bar.

One of, if not THE, our favorite restaurant in Freiburg – everything is just right here, from the very good and friendly service (we've been here so many times and have never had a bad experience) to the super creative dishes. The combination of flavors is truly a dream, and all dishes are creatively adapted into vegetarian versions :-) The wine selection is also very, very good, with many great regional wines. Unfortunately, you can't sit inside with your dog, but there are also very nice and cozy seats outside :-) Highly recommended! A true experience.

Yesterday, I was there for the first time since Steffen Disch's death. His presence is missed, but the entire team honors him and continues with the usual Kuro Mori quality. He would be proud...

The open kitchen makes the whole experience even more intense – you can see, hear, and smell the passion that goes into the work here. What comes to the plate is bold and refined at the same time: Black Forest produce with an Asian twist, creatively combined but always harmonious. The ambiance is as strong as the cuisine: raw brick walls, warm lighting, a touch of urban style – yet cozy. You feel welcome, whether at lunch, during the fine dining menu, or later at the bar with a really good drink. For me, Kuro Mori is more than a restaurant – it's a meeting place for enjoyment, inspiration, and genuine hospitality. Freiburg thus has a culinary highlight that resonates far beyond the city limits.

Modern fusion cuisine, the menu is always worth a visit. And be sure to always order the tapas as a side dish. And, of course, the top-notch wine selection!

We only had a drink, but were given a very friendly welcome. The open kitchen was already busy preparing food at 4 p.m. Next time we'll go for dinner. Worth seeing are the three works of art on the wall, three chimeras between llamas and geishas.

I was at Kuro Mori a week and a half ago and was absolutely thrilled. The food was incredibly delicious, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was super attentive and friendly. A visit to Kuro Mori is at the top of our list for our next trip to Freiburg!

Nice restaurant, tasty food, but the portions are far too small. The value for money isn't right at all. I wouldn't go back.

Totally disappointed. Dinner with two friends, four-course menu, à la carte wine. Unfortunately, very disappointed with the welcome, the quality of the food, and especially the service. The host was unprepared, they didn't explain the dishes and ingredients to us, and they often forgot about the guests at the table in a very unprofessional manner. Not recommended, not up to the reviews.

Good food at a price that's too high for what it offers. We've been there several times, and I think the service and quality have deteriorated. Considering the restaurant's prices, one would expect attentive and exquisite service, but that wasn't the case at all. They forgot things, and we waited for the bill for over 20 minutes. For the price, I expected more. It's not as spectacular as one might expect. Small portions. Right in the city center, so reservations are recommended.

I've been there twice recently. The food is excellent, as are the wines. But even here, the labor shortage is noticeable; some people were a bit overwhelmed.

First-class! Very friendly, attentive, and competent service. A blessing in the service desert of Germany! A magnificent combination of Japanese and European dishes. Since I know and appreciate Japanese cuisine very well, I know what I'm talking about. The subtle combination of flavors is a true palate orgasm! Beautifully presented, excellent taste, pleasantly filling. This is high-quality cooking. Prices are reasonable. Large selection of wines. Always happy to return!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, it fell (significantly) short of expectations. The price/performance ratio here isn't right. The dishes are visually impressive, but the taste is nowhere near as good. With the exception of the Tom Kha soup, the Black Forest tapas were rather bland. The tartare in brioche was particularly tasty due to the toasted bread, while the tartare itself had little to no flavor – and even when tried on its own, it wasn't a particularly special taste experience. Overall, all of the dishes had a predominance of soy/miso flavors – a bit more refinement, aromatic subtlety, and variety would have been welcome (especially given the price and the visual appeal). The service was very attentive and friendly.

Highly recommended: fine dining with regional dishes that are delicately and lovingly prepared. A truly unique experience :-)

Just fits - from start to finish 🥰

I was excited to come here. The place is beautiful and the staff is really friendly. The food not so much! The bread as appetizer was tasty, fresh warm sourdough. But the Bibiliskäs was bland and the Miso Butter also wasn’t pleasant. So I was excited for my veal dumplings on Broccoli with Shiitake mushrooms. But basically it was 3 frozen dumplings fried to death over two broccoli stems with one button of Shiitake. The sauce on top was ok. But for €26 I expected something fresh not frozen and fried. Unfortunately my phone died so I couldn’t take a picture of the dumplings. I might give it another try but yesterday was definitely disappointing.

Difficult review: has great potential and I will come back, but service was slow, some dishes really worth it some other (Japanese schnitzel) although realised with precision were not worth the price. Will go again and hope to increase stars

Highly recommended! Super delicious food with a unique concept of local cuisine with consciously chosen Asian influences that I have never experienced anywhere else. I find the criticism from other reviews regarding the manageable portion a bit inappropriate. The dishes are sized with several courses in mind (3) and are therefore naturally somewhat smaller when viewed individually. This is not a pub where you stuff yourself with schnitzel from three factory-farmed pigs and a hundredweight of fries. There are very tasty dishes here made from noticeably high-quality ingredients. And with multiple courses, you'll be satisfied even with a healthy adult appetite. The whole thing is complemented by a very pleasant ambience in this beautiful location. Many thanks to the kitchen and the attentive service staff! Fully recommended!

Four of us were at Kuro Mori on Easter Saturday. As on previous visits, we were warmly welcomed. The service was extremely friendly and competent. Despite the packed house, water was always replenished and accompanying drinks were always refilled. The 4-course menu impresses with ingenuity and the best taste. The team does the best work despite the new (also complicated) situation. We could not see any reduction in quality or professionalism. We had a wonderful evening. We cannot understand the negative reviews in the slightest. Maybe your own dissatisfaction is projected onto others. Price performance absolutely justified! Gladly again and again.

Price performance ratio is not only bad but also arrogant. Ribeye steak for 40 euros, schnitzel for 26 and wild gamba 18 euros, tap water still 750.ml for 6 and cola for 3.50. Portions suitable for 3 year old children, not suitable for adults. Only small things are served here. Nothing for vegetarians, wine list boring and expensive. Nothing was freshly prepared. Absolutely not again. Here you only work for your own pocket, not a hint of culinary art and neighborly love - I just stayed hungry.....

Very nice kitchen staff, good food at a high level. However, the service staff is not that attentive, you always had to point out to the lady that the empty glasses should be cleared away. The wine list was only available upon request and we had to order the coffee from the kitchen. Despite everything it was a very nice visit, many thanks to Team Kuro Mori.

Very tasty food with very arrogant service. The waiter slams the menu and the bill onto the table, there is neither a greeting from the kitchen at the beginning nor a homemade praline at the end, which would be more than appropriate considering the prices. Although there is a lot free, for 3 people you have to ask for a better table that is not super small or right next to the cloakroom. The question is why? Food great, service flop!

Delicious and ambitious, a great night that was enjoyable but not fully perfect - as the black forest came short in the fusion. Wir hatten auch schon vor der reservierten Zeit,die Möglichkeit zu essen. Ambiente und Service passen gut zum Motto Fusion Schwarzwald Asien und Waren sehr angenehm. Wir hatten das 5 Gänge Überraschungsmenü und fühlten uns auch überrascht von der Qualität des Angebots und der Vielfalt des Geschmacks. Die Weinkarte war gut sortiert, aber hochpreisig. Auch das Essen fand ich trotz obigen Lobes leicht überteuert.

Wir hatten uns sehr auf den Lunch am Freitag, 07.02.2025, gefreut und das 3-Gang-Lunch Menü bestellt, 2 x zusätzlich mit Saibling und 2 x zusätzlich mit Schweinebauch. Die Vorspeise und das Dessert waren ein Geschmackserlebnis, der Hauptgang jedoch für unsere beiden Fleischesser eine komplette Enttäuschung. Der Schweinebauch war strohtrocken und ließ sich weder schneiden noch kauen. Die sehr nette Bedienung hat unsere Beschwerde an den Koch weitergegeben, von dort kam nicht mal eine Entschuldigung sondern nur die lapidare Mitteilung, dass uns das Fleisch (2 x 6 €) nicht berechnet werde. Das hat uns leider den kompletten Lunch kaputt gemacht, da rettet auch das tolle Ambiente nichts. SCHADE! In der Preisklasse gibt es in Freiburg bessere Restaurants.

I don't understand the reviews at all, it's basically not good food, over-salted, over-acidic, no good quality ingredients, incredibly arrogant service staff

After the Plaza we finally managed a personal visit to the city. Nicely decorated restaurant and a cozy sound concept. Unfortunately, the attentive and friendly service staff only spoke very broken German and the respective courses were memorized when presenting. Originally reserved at the kitchen counter, we decided to eat at a table because the "window sill" seemed very cramped. The table/bench was also quite narrow, so that two people could sit just opposite each other. The service also seems to be encouraged to keep the table as clean/clear as possible. Seems due to calculation. As a starter I chose the bouillabaisse and was disappointed with a shrimp and a few strips of vegetables as an accompaniment. The bouillon was very concentrated and with the covered designer spoon it was a test of patience, which I then stopped. Unfortunately there was no bread either. A small one I also missed greetings from the kitchen in the prices and the associated demands. For the main course I had the schnitzel with fried rice and miso hollandaise, which was flawless. Finally, the quite clear, almost loveless cheese plate with a dollop of chutney. The sourdough bread served with it (from Pfeiffle?) was great, which I had missed at first. All in all, our expectations of the visit were unfortunately only partially met and the price-performance ratio was marginal.

Nice dinning in a nice atmosphere, although it’s a bit of a hit-or-miss. On the lunch menu, the starter was really nice and refreshing with an original mixing of sesame icecream alongside raw fish and the sauce paired well with the pickled radish. But the main curry was really unimpressive, too heavy with little spices and an overcooked halibut, only the bao buns were doing it. Then the quince dessert was again a good surprise, light and fresh. Side note: the bench doesn’t provide much comfort. Prefer the chairs.

Good food and nice service, but can't keep up with fine dining restaurants in big cities like Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Hamburg. Unfortunately it is just as expensive and therefore not really recommended due to the price-performance ratio.

A fancy-looking and (supposedly) fine dining restaurant. A chaotic service, incapable of dealing with unexpected but simple requests or questions, or any sort of criticism. Reading through the reviews, I happened to experience the very same with the "fusion tapas": a very poor mix of sushi, croquetas and God knows what. Yet, it was surprisingly expensive (26€ per person for a couple of bits). The main dishes were okay for the price. The cocktails were very nice too, to be fair. But overall, I'd label this as another "fine dining" German wannabe: no clear concept, overpriced and worst of all, incapable of accepting critical feedback. I'd recommend a visit to any well noted restaurant in Paris to learn what it is to receive quality for half a price.

I had a wonderful evening at Kuro Mori. The menu was excellent, as was the recommended wine pairing. I've never been a fish eater, but what the team conjures up here in the open kitchen is simply extraordinary. Thanks to Kuro Mori, I now eat fish! If only it were that good everywhere! We were there in the summer after I had wanted to visit Kuro Mori for a long time. The ambience is great and the service is professional. The food was very good, especially the dim sum and tartare. Overall just 4.5 - therefore 5 points

- Excellent food with lots of details. The 5-course meal was simply fantastic and was well tolerated by the crowd - Wine accompaniment was highly recommended, especially the white wines - the tables are extremely small - the music (electro/jazz) is not exactly relaxing and takes some getting used to - In general, the hectic pace is too great, the pace of the aisles is too high, you're in the wrong place to sit comfortably. Despite the 5-course meal and consumption of over €300 for two, we had to vacate the table after 8 p.m. and finish the wine at the bar - they should have at least offered us a nightcap

We came with high expectations and were unfortunately partially disappointed. Unfortunately, we decided on the tapas as a starter, which really didn't taste good. The Maultaschen as the main course were ok, but the celery was very good. Maybe next time we'll have to choose the menu to be convinced.

Great place. Something different. Not cheap, but really fun and tasty.

Die Bestandteile des Menüs waren einfachste Produkte (außer dem Tatar). Wenigstens der Hauptgang hätte überzeugen müssen, doch das konnte ein kleines vorgeschnittenes Schnitzel wie aus jeder Mensa nicht. Das wird als japanisches Schnitzel (Tonkatsu) annonciert, hat noch nicht einmal eine Pankopanade und wirkte abgestanden / vorgefertigt. Statt Tonkatsu-Sauce eine únpassende Miso-Hollandaise mit Convenience- Geschmack, als Beilage matschige, unansehnliche Reismischung, im gesamten Menü keine Spur eines frischen Gemüses. Eine "japanische Bouillabaisse": ein eierbechergroßes Gefäß mit lauwarmer dubioser Flüssigkeit ohne jegliche Einlage - eine großspurige Wortschöpfung für eine Nichtigkeit. Leider war auch der Löffel Sorbet mit Crunch kein Dessert, das den Gast erkennen ließ, dass man sich um ihn bemüht. Sehr schade, wir hatten uns auf diesen Abend gefreut.

Kuro mori means Black Forest in Japanese. If that's what the menu means, it's culinary hidden from me. Only well made, but already top class prices. Black Forest and Japanese cuisine are different, both are great. Fusion is an illusion, not a reality. It used to be called a mish-mash. Diversity is hard to do, but easy to say. Two spices are not enough. Replacing wasabi and yuzu is not a “fusion” that brings something new. The helplessness despite being a well-known top chef is surprising. That's the interim verdict - expensive, but ok for the fashion crowd. For others, there is little fulfillment in expectation. Service and wine accompaniment are exempt from criticism. Conclusion: all expectations open. Wallet painfully affected.

Sushi rolls and crispy shrimp had a sour taste. The pork schnitzel and side dish were very salty. Our expectations were disappointed.

Very tasty and interesting cuisine/combination. The ambience is stylish and overall the price is reasonable. After all, you pay for creativity and quality. Unfortunately we had a bit of bad luck with the service. That's the smear. Our waiter was slightly arrogant and would certainly have felt more comfortable in Berlin Mitte. He wasn't really having fun. It's a shame, but it doesn't detract from the restaurant. The cross-over cuisine was prepared with passion and love for the balanced taste. Away from the star, but the Michelin recommendation is absolutely appropriate.

We had the sharing dishes because we like to try lots of different dishes. We got full and of course everything was diverse, delicious and developed our taste buds. It was an exciting trip and a great time. It was also pleasant that the boss was personally on the phone and welcomed us personally.

Unfortunately, price-performance doesn't fit here. Good service. We had 5 courses "all in". The majority of the dishes tasted good and were attractively seasoned with a twist. The beef fillet was classic, but there was that certain something missing. It doesn't take out the duck liver. Minor technical weaknesses (e.g. char fillet cooked a little too far) cloud my impression a bit. The wine accompaniment was of the more boring variety and only partially suited my taste. Some of the wines were not served at the right temperature, but this could be remedied upon request. Overall, you can eat much better in Freiburg for comparable prices. The tables are a bit too small and it is rather uncomfortable to sit at high bistro tables. The advertising cards for the in-house cooking courses on the tables are immediately noticeable and, in my opinion, prevent a more upscale impression. The service staff were consistently friendly and helpful, definitely the strength of the hotel.

Unfortunately it didn't convince me. The tablespoon of king crab was not dressed as a salad, but was "hidden" under the cucumber soup, which masked everything in terms of taste, as the ice cream had little to counteract it. The waitress brought the wine list, but she didn't take the order, so we had to ask another waitress to come. The aperitif also tasted very strongly of cucumber and sauerkraut juice for 16 euros. The tables are small and you have to sit with your back to the busy aisle. The crispy pasta was served in a bowl in which the other ingredients were placed without any tension between them. After all, there was a tension here between hot and cold. The lemon praline was very tasty and beautifully decorated. I really like the idea of ​​combining new things, maybe I'll try something with meat again.

We ordered full menu and two wine glasses. The waitress at first brought us an old opened wine bottle to fill our glasses. Then one of the main dishes was a bit salty with strong seasoning. The atmosphere was toooooo hot we were sweaty while eating. they mentioned that they have an AC but in reality it's not the case. A little disappointed. The other dishes were good.

Very nice Restaurant in the City of Freiburg. Cool, chilly Ambiente very deluxe food in Asian style. Delicious, really. You want to try High class Asian Food combined with regional german products, dont miss this Place. A must see in Freiburg.

The food is amazing! Everything tasted delicious, you can taste the combination of Black Forest and Japan in every course. There is a quarter star deduction because of the uncomfortable chairs outside, but if I could I would give it 5.75 stars. One especially for the cute waiter with the nose ring!

Very expensive, very little food, which was basic... This is not culinaire dining, just overhyped. We did go to another restaurant after becouse nobody was full, mcdonalds it is...

Das Konzept ist sehr interessant, und die Speisen waren auch tatsächlich sehr gut - es gab interessante Geschmackskombinationen zu entdecken. Die Tische auf der Gasse sind bei schönem Wetter sehr angenehm. Die Preise sind eher gehoben, und der Service fiel angesichts dieser Preise etwas ab.

Überbewertet. Langweilig. Bouillabaisse schmeckt wie ein Energyshot aus dem Supermarkt. Tartar im Bun - gähn! Aubergine - würg! Banipuri ohne Kick.

The food was good. Overall, it was more like: it was good, but I don't have to go there again. The waiting time for the main courses was very long.

Were in Freiburg for a day and spontaneously got a table. We have been able to eat in many star restaurants, but this is in NO WAY inferior!!! Top food, super friendly service, great ambience and excellent wines! An absolute recommendation 👍🏼👍🏼 Katja and Alex

Wir hatten das 2-gängige Lunchmenü. Das frisch gebackene Brot mit 2 verschiedenen Aufstrichen war wunderbar. Der erste Gang war bestens komponiert und bot ein wunderbares. differenziertes Geschmackserlebnis zwischen den Salatkomponenten und der Vinaigrette. Der zweite Gang war in der vegetarischen Variante dagegen geschmacklich flach, d.h. die einzelnen Gemüse kaum zu unterscheiden, die Yuzu-Brühe wenig pikant. Die Variante mit Thunfisch mit Fisch-Brühe dagegen hatte mehr Geschmack. Das Lounge Ambiente war für unseren Geschmack allerdings nicht adäquat. Für die Preiskategorie erwarte ich für drei reservierte Plätze einen Tisch und bequeme Stühle, nicht eine lange Bank und unbequeme Barhocker ohne Lehne. Außerdem war es ohne Klimatisierung besonders mit offener Küche viel zu warm. Uns war keine Servicekraft zugeordnet, sondern es bediente, wer gerade in der Nähe war. Da hätte man sich mehr Aufmerksamkeit gewünscht. Alles in allem war unser Geburtstagslunch nicht das, was wir uns erhofft hatten.

Asia meets Black Forest meets overpriced prices - that's how you could describe the experience on a Saturday lunchtime. But right from the start: attentive service, which was probably primarily concerned with not having to walk too far. We were denied access to the rear, unreserved part of the restaurant. Five minutes after we had sat down in the still almost empty restaurant, another guest was seated directly at the closely placed neighboring table. The back part of the restaurant was still completely empty. If you can no longer have a private conversation, even in a quiet voice, a negative air will be felt over the restaurant experience right from the start. Two Tom Ka Gai soup had a sophisticated taste but was a bit too mild because there was probably too much coconut milk and, especially at EUR 16 per plate, it was clearly too expensive. The main course was duck or savoy cabbage from the Lindenbrunnenhof. Duck tasted very good, but the quantity of the dish was at star restaurant level and for 38 EUR I couldn't get enough. Even after applying the two-palate principle, the savoy cabbage had to be rated as having a weak taste. There was no taste of the ingredients ginger and truffle. My conclusion: We have been here twice now in the afternoon when there was only a reduced menu and this made us want more. Today's lunchtime visit was disappointing. The combination of small portions, under-spiced dishes and peppery prices means there won't be a repeat anytime soon. Update March 30, 2024: Kuro Mori is currently trying to have my review removed from Google with the help of legal counsel. Among other things, it is argued that I am not known to Kuro Mori, that they have no legal relationship with me and that my review must therefore be an untrue statement of fact. Fortunately, the ubiquity of smartphones also has advantages: I can use the time stamps and GPS tags of the images on my cell phone to completely document that the entertainment took place on Saturday, February 18, 2023. The soups were served around 12:19 p.m. Duck and savoy cabbage followed at around 12:42 p.m. I'll put a few pictures here. You can also see part of the empty restaurant at the start of our visit, as well as the nearby table next door, which prevented any privacy. I remain calm about a possible legal dispute. My companion is also looking forward to possibly getting financed for a trip to Freiburg to testify. Then we can go out to eat in Freiburg again ;-) By the way, I don't seem to be an isolated case. I discovered at least two other updates to a Kuro Mori review on Google, each of which described an attempt to have the review removed. The owner must know for himself whether this money would be better spent on service quality and the taste of the food. I, on the other hand, will have to ask myself in the future whether the positive overall impression I get when reading the reviews about Kuro Mori corresponds to reality or whether it is distorted because some critical reviews may have been deleted.

My friend and I had a really nice night. We had the Twenü: 1 aperitif, 2 wines, 3 course dinner. The food was really nice, especially the vegetarian starter. We were helped by nice staff. We would come back ;).

We were at Kuro Mori again and it was always a surprise and enjoyment at the highest level. In the summer weather outside, relaxed atmosphere with the best service, it's unbelievable what the kitchen conjures up. Price-performance ratio is absolutely justified and worth every euro!

The food was okay, but not appropriate for the price-performance ratio, especially when you compare it with other excellent restaurants in Freiburg. If you have a gourmet menu over 80€ you can also buy the greetings from the kitchen, I've never experienced that before, thank you very much for that. The service was simply weak: We were only given an explanation of what was on the plate when we asked, we were never asked whether we wanted new water, for example, and you should be able to distinguish between a relaxed tone of voice and obvious disinterest. The ambience was probably trying to imitate a bistro. For us, however, the loud electronic music was simply too much; for short people, the high chairs and benches without proper backrests are not designed for a long, comfortable dinner. Any restaurant can have a bad day, but if you want to treat yourself, I would recommend other places. *An attempt was made to delete this review with a lawyer's letter, so the good ratings are retained. So it's better to keep the receipt

Steffen Disch was already excellent at the Raben in Horben before, but here is a new concept, with a more Asian touch, but as before, the quality is absolutely top notch.

Very pleasant restaurant. Friendly and courteous staff. The food was very good I can recommend Kuro Mori!!!

Really something extraordinary for vegetarians too! It was really great. There should be something like that in Frankfurt Main too.

I ate lunch in the restaurant twice. Miso paradise! The food is excellent 👌 Nice atmosphere. You can also watch how the food is prepared. I think that's very cool. Service could be a little better. We had to wait longer for an aperitif than for food. In return we got espresso on the house. Thanks :) My green tea was served in a broken cup. When I wanted to have the cup changed, the service lady was a little confused, or probably a little overwhelmed. And unfortunately we (and other guests) noticed how the boss was shouting at his employees. That wasn't very cheap. But I would definitely come again 🙏👌

Loved the food and service at the place. We tried their appetizers and everything was perfect from the presentation to the flavour. For mains we tried their gyoza and short rib and it was nothing short of perfect again. Once again such flavourful food with great texture and presented oh so well. Their dessert - black forest cherries was to die for. The service was very friendly with good attention. The only complaint was the ambience - gets warm inside and the tables outside do not have chairs with back rest. Highly recommend the place. They delivered very well.

Restaurant/Atmosphere: From the outside, the Kuro Mori looks quite inconspicuous. A beautiful front but an even more beautiful interior when you enter the restaurant. Due to the paved stone floor and the elongated structure, it has the feel of a passage. What's special in my opinion is the open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs at work. The motto “Asia meets Black Forest” can also be felt in this structure, as in Japan, for example, there are also many restaurants with a counter that goes around the kitchen. All in all, a less upscale but relaxed, nice atmosphere, which I personally welcome. Eat: We had the ALL INN menu which included a starter, 5 courses, bread, water and a “Café Gourmand”. What impressed me was that you can order unlimited amounts of water from this menu at no extra charge. The waiting times between courses were perfectly coordinated - you never had the feeling of having to wait too long or too short. The dishes always came warm (not cold / not too hot). In terms of taste, you get something new here but by no means anything experimental. There is a loving preparation behind the dishes, which is also noticeable in the color coordination of the different dishes. Each dish had its own coordinated color palette and almost every dish had different textures.

Excellent food, an excellent selection of wines and very friendly and courteous service result in an almost perfect work of art.
