Super schön gelegen an der Spree Ambiente und Personal sehr sympathisch und freundlich

What once was a stylish place with great ambience, food and memorable service, has now became overpriced tourist trap with small portions, sloppy and inattentive service. Summer time you might still enjoy the lovely terrace and have a drink with a bite, but for special occasion that we celebrated as group of friends, spending +€100 each on what was at best a mediocre meal with absolutely terrible service, is something I will never repeat again.

The city's most beautiful terrace right on the Spree river, top-quality food, a fine wine list and fantastic service!

Super schönes Restaurant mit einem sehr angenehmen Layout. Wir wurden freundlich empfangen und alle bedienenden Mitarbeitenden waren wirklich äußerst professionell, relaxed und zuvorkommend. Genau die richtige Menge an Aufmerksamkeit und Zurückhaltung, hier blieb kein Wunsch offen. Essen und Drinks ebenfalls fantastisch, alles flott, lecker und sehr gute Portionsgrößen. Alle Gerichte waren angenehm bodenständig, teilweise mit einem leichten Twist, und jede Zutat war in ihrer Einfachheit überzeugend. Wir wurden relativ kurzfristig per Mail und zusätzlich vor Ort darauf hingewiesen, dass es abends eine kurze musikalische Performance geben wird. Diese hat unseren Geschmack nicht getroffen und hat den Abend leider etwas abrupt enden lassen, da wir aber Bescheid wussten, konnten wir uns vorher darauf einstellen. Insgesamt für einen schönen Abend bei gutem Essen und entspannter Atmosphäre sehr zu empfehlen.

We went to Katerschmaus in Berlin yesterday and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. For starters, we chose the beef tartare and the tuna tartare – both excellent, perfectly balanced, and absolutely spot on. These two dishes are definitely a must-try. For our main courses, we had beef fillet and salmon, both cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. The quality of the ingredients and the care taken in their preparation were clearly evident. The service was attentive, warm, and professional, making us feel instantly at ease. Overall, a very harmonious evening with fantastic food in a relaxed atmosphere. We'd love to come back.

It's a really nice location with good food. Unfortunately, the prices are now far too high, and the service wasn't particularly friendly. When we asked to split the bill, the response was, "I'd rather not, but I have time." Overall, it seemed as if the staff expected us to order dishes costing €30 or more. The food itself was of excellent quality, but the portions were far too small for the price. They used to offer larger portions and a better selection.

The place and the ambience is really amazing, right at the spree and the service is excellent. Food is quite good and the deserts are amazing. The staff was very helpful and speaks perfect English. Only challenge was that The location was really tricky to find and there is no parking option nearby.

Came for a dinner with colleagues and the food was ok, we had a mix of meat and vegan optioms (team preferences) but it was the "smart remark" by one of the waiters when a colleague asked if they had a vegan dessert option. If you don't like your job, do something else. Ruined the night won't be coming back.

We visited the restaurant for a work meal, and our group had a range of dietary requirements. Since the menu includes several vegan and vegetarian dishes, we occasionally checked with the staff to confirm which options were suitable. When we asked about vegan desserts, one of the waiters reacted in a way that made us feel quite uncomfortable. He stared at us, replied abruptly “we don’t”, then added “well, the sorbet”, and after an awkward moment said, “I’m sorry. I’m just mad curious, but this is a steak house.” The comment and the tone felt dismissive and out of place, especially given that the restaurant does offer vegan and vegetarian options. It left us wondering why those dishes are on the menu if customers with different dietary needs are going to be made to feel awkward for asking about them. The waiter was insanely rude and the food was not even great

We discovered this restaurant through Taste Twelve. From the phone reservation to the service on-site, we felt incredibly comfortable. My husband and I ordered two vegetarian main courses (butternut squash and "duck" with red cabbage). Both dishes were absolutely delicious. We finished our evening with chocolate mousse. The restaurant has a charming, rustic, nautical atmosphere. It was a bit noisy, but we could still have a good conversation. Thank you again for the wonderful evening; we will definitely be back.

Delicious food and fantastic service! I used the TasteTwelve book to celebrate a friend's birthday at Katerschmaus: it was a complete success! Even the delicious homemade bread with top-notch olive oil and pomegranate syrup put us in a great mood – especially combined with the warm welcome from the exceptionally friendly staff! One roast duck and one vegetarian "duck" later, we were completely happy (those dumplings!! And the chestnuts ❤️), but simply too curious not to choose desserts as well – the chocolate mousse was the icing on the cake and indescribably delicious; the crème brûlée couldn't quite compete... Not exactly a bargain, but it tastes exceptional! We'll definitely be back soon!

Small but excellent menu. Very good cuisine. Very good service. Higher prices in the evenings. Pleasant atmosphere right on the Spree River, with a terrace in summer, in the unique setting of the Holzmarkt (wood market).

We were here because of the Taste Twelve voucher book, and we absolutely loved it. The food was great; the salmon and steak were cooked to perfection. The taste was truly exceptional. We weren't expecting that at all. Why I'm giving it one star less: overall, the atmosphere was wonderful, but the noise level—especially after 8 a.m.—was quite high. In a restaurant where you can easily spend €60 per person, I'd expect to be able to have a decent conversation. On top of that, the server obviously felt we didn't tip enough when paying. He became very tight-lipped and didn't even say goodbye. We wished us a nice weekend... The manager was super nice, though. (Tip: if tipping is so important to you, you could perhaps suggest a service charge to the manager...)

A place with too many pretensions. Delicious food, although riskily sophisticated. Very slow and unfriendly service. The location of the place is very difficult at night.

The place is a little hard to find, but the location is great once you’ve finally found it. This is the first restaurant where I’ve waited 40 min before a waiter comes with a menu, or even some water. And we also had to go get the waiter and menu ourselves, they never came to us. There was a couple next to us who came 5 minutes after us, and it was the same thing with them. It was not busy in the restaurant when we were there, so I don’t know why this happened. Now apart from that, when we first got to order the service was nice, the food came quickly and it tasted excellent.

A very nice restaurant right on the water with very friendly service. The food selection is also very good. I had the butternut squash, which was unfortunately a bit disappointing. It tasted okay, but the portion was quite small. So, as a starter or dessert, I definitely recommend it.

Stumbled on this gem. It’s a bit difficult to find but worth the search! Food is great. Had the tuna tartare and short ribs. They were both quite good. Would definitely recommend it.

Great location right on the water. Very friendly and excellent service and truly fantastic cuisine. The prices are very fair for the quality. In addition to the very high-quality dinner, a visit for lunch for €20-30 per person is highly recommended.

Update: the restaurant tried to remove my review due to ‘defamation’, keep in mind that they remove one star reviews when making a decision to visit this place. Dishonest practice… Staff was super rude. After spending an hour in the restaurant, my partner and myself used to bathroom where we were told rudely ‘this isn’t a public bathroom’. Told her I was a customer and was met with an equally rude response.

Great place, friendly, and honest! Attentive, friendly service. The lentil soup is absolutely fantastic! View of the Spree. Certainly a hot spot in the summer, and rightly so.

Went out for lunch with the office folks. Nice place with the river view and the service was good. The only problem with the chicken dishes - the chicken was raw. They did replace it without any questions.

We went there on a Friday night for the party upstairs and spontaneously ended up in this restaurant. We had one of the best Beef Tartars ever, served as it is supposed to be, with the running egg yolk on top and all spices and condiments on the side and not destroying the beef taste by throwing everything on top as many others do. The fresh water fish baked in palm leaves was very very delicious and truly enough for two. Only negative is that there was strong cold air stream in my feet from the terrace door. and there restrooms could be cleaner.

Few options and expensive for dinner

OVERRATED!! We were here for the first time. The location itself is cool, beautifully situated by the water, but unfortunately, there were hardly any shady spots. After finding a table whose reservation had expired an hour ago, all we had to do was be patient. We waited forever for the menu, then 25 minutes for our bottle of wine. The guests around us experienced the same thing. Although the service was friendly, they were completely overwhelmed. After what felt like an eternity, our food arrived: a salad, a vegan bowl, and a tarte flambée. ...I've rarely eaten such a mediocre meal. The wine was really not good, the food absolutely not worth the money, and the service was really bad. For just under €100, a real disappointment, considering you just had to eat here at least once. This was the first and last time! The icing on the cake, however, was that the service was lousy, possibly due to a lack of staff (it was full - holiday, nice weather) - the manager, who was there, didn't care. That was unbelievable. Any good manager would have just pitched in. So sad!! You shouldn't invest any more money here! Despite the cool location, we definitely won't be back. All in all, a truly mediocre restaurant that only survives because of its name. What a shame.

Such a lovely place! The food was excellent, the service was professional and the atmosphere was palpable. Great spot for fancier dates and get-togethers.

The service was simply perfect. Appetizer: The mussels were good, with an Asian touch. In my opinion, the spring onions could have been fried briefly. Main course: I had the fillet steak with green beans, bacon, and truffle mashed potatoes. The beans were nice and crisp, the mashed potatoes were flavorful, and the steak was cooked to perfection and tender; it melted in my mouth. I also had a lovely Portuguese wine that went very well with the food. Dessert: Espresso, very, very good. I highly recommend the food here.

I really enjoyed it once again. The place is sensational, and so is the service: It still brings a smile to my face when I think of all the hosts. The only thing that didn't completely satisfy my palate was the food. It was the vegan main course, and I found it uninspiring. But everyone's experience is different. It's definitely a recommendation!

Fantastic gem hidden behind Holzmarkt right by the river. Really delicious food, super friendly service and great atmosphere. The decor - especially the door to the toilet - is an experience in itself.

We had a particularly lovely evening at Katerschmaus. It was our first time at this restaurant. Although it was a bit difficult to find, we were amazed at the fantastic location on the waterfront, which is admittedly a bit quaint. With the fantastic weather, we naturally sat outside and were able to watch the boats sailing by while we ate. The food was outstanding. We had steak, and the kitchen cooked exactly as we ordered. That's not always the case in some restaurants. The staff were very friendly, and we received prompt service. The prices are a bit high.

We went on a rainy evening. Didnt really get a view of the spree. Food was ok, we had salmon 4/5, potato and cheese croquettes that tastes like gnocchi 1/5, baked cauliflower with curry powder maybe 4/5, potato gratin 3/5 spinach with cream 3/5 ;u probably do well with just drinks. the service staff were of extremes. Two acted like we owed them but another was extremely inviting. Good luck

The food was quite good. The location was nice, too. However, the waiter was extremely rude. I've never experienced anything like it. A typical Berlin attitude. It really ruined our evening. We had to constantly call a colleague to order, and the wrong drinks were delivered. It was also ridiculously expensive. Overall, not recommended.

Beautiful place right on the water

If you want a Berlin style dining experience, this place has to be on top of your list. Right from the location of Holtzmarkt, to the staff, everything about the place is Berlin.

Proper little hidden place that we only found because we were sheltering from the rain... just stopped in for a couple of beers and a bowl of fries, and sat on the terrace, while the rain subsided. The food being served did look good though...

Zero points for the service. It was unfriendly, inattentive, slow, and arrogant. The waiters here think they're kings. Anyone who has ever enjoyed fine dining in Baden-Württemberg, the Palatinate, or Franconia must be shocked by the careless way the service is delivered here. This isn't typical Berlin style or charming; it's bad - period. We weren't given good advice on our meal selection, we weren't asked what we thought of the food, we waited forever for the bill and had to ask three times. The same thing happened at the neighboring tables: a party of four wasn't allowed to place their order, nor was a young family with children allowed to receive the bill. Terrible. The food was overrated. Too average for the prices. The location was great, the decor too. But overall, a tourist rip-off. No Berliner who knows fine dining goes here. I told several friends and colleagues about this restaurant experience, and they all had the same bad experiences. I assume the good reviews are fake. If you want to eat really well and be served appropriately, go somewhere else.

Order the family style chateaubriand with the green beans & bacon! It'll be the best meal you've had in a long time. Great atmosphere alongside the river as well.

Awesome place. View of the Spree. The food is sophisticated and something completely different. The menu changes regularly. The ambiance is very industrial. It gets especially beautiful as it gets darker, thanks to the many small fairy lights. If you prefer something more rustic and alternative, stay upstairs at the Holzmarkt. Also nice. Open air.

Simply excellent. The seating is very pleasant, right on the Spree, the service is excellent and attentive, and the food is well worth the very high prices. It's ideal for celebrating a special occasion.

Schöne Location. Nettes Ambiente. Speisekarte übersichtlich. Tolle Lage. Kellner super nett. Kommen gerne wieder. Abends unbedingt reservieren.

Traditional atmosphere, nice place where to eat alongside the river. Food we tried were good and tasty. The surprise came when at the bill we discovered the price of a small amount of white plain rice we asked for as side: 8€. Couldn't believe it!

The experience I had today in this restaurant is something I have never had before. My girlfriend and I were at the Holzmarkt and wanted to have a nice meal for her birthday. Originally we had planned to go to a blockhouse. But when we saw the restaurant from the outside, the ambience looked very aesthetic, so we spontaneously decided to take a look inside. Of course we asked at the reception and were told that we were welcome to take a look inside, which should really be normal, especially as there were only two of us. Once we got inside, the look also appealed to us. As we took two steps further, a waiter came towards us and asked us if we could get help yet. We replied “We are just looking around” because it looked really appealing from the outside. Then came the shock: the waiter's statement: "People eat here, this isn't a museum, so you can either eat something here or please (points towards the exit)." I was shocked at how unprofessional the waiter treated us. And as if that wasn't enough, he went to reception and told the man who had greeted us at the entrance that he shouldn't let anyone in who just wanted to look around. My girlfriend, the receptionist, and I were completely overwhelmed by the situation. But he didn't even apologize. That's how you ruin a 28th birthday for no reason and lose customers.

Ein fabelhafter Abend, der all meine Erwartungen übertroffen hat – und das in jeder Hinsicht. Wir saßen draußen, direkt am Wasser, während die Lichter der Stadt sich im sanften Wellenschlag spiegelten. Die Atmosphäre war gleichzeitig romantisch, aufregend und sinnlich, wie eine Mischung aus Urlaub und einem besonderen Geheimnis, das nur dieser Ort kennt. Jeder Gang, jeder Schluck, jedes Gespräch fügte sich zu einem perfekten Ganzen, als würde der Abend genau für uns inszeniert sein. Es war einer dieser seltenen Momente, in denen Zeit und Alltag verschwimmen – und nur noch Genuss, Nähe und das Gefühl, genau am richtigen Ort zu sein, bleiben.

Great food, so-so service... We ate here on our wedding anniversary, but the service wasn't very friendly, which unfortunately somewhat dampened the atmosphere. With a reservation and stating the occasion, there was nothing. A table in the alleyway, no decorations, and no congratulations. It was just an average evening, and a hefty bill for that. The runner was great, though!

The location is simply fantastic... by the water with sunshine... what more could you want? But the pizza and spritz weren't really that impressive. The pizza wasn't baked in the restaurant or brought out in a box. Therefore, it wasn't very hot. Next time, we'll go a la carte...

I had actually planned to round off a wonderful day with a delicious dinner with my family. The setting was perfect. Then the service came. I can't comment on the food because I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant as I did here, and I left after my glass of wine. I understand that everyone has bad days, but this employee was just incredibly unfriendly. My visit was over a month ago.

A rather interesting and incredibly diverse spot on the Berlin map in terms of appearance and atmosphere. Located directly on the river, it allows for observation of the water and the ships moving across it. The offerings are wide and varied. You can eat, drink, and listen to music during the day, while in the evenings, it transforms into a disco haven for thrill-seekers.

The ambiance gets a half-star deduction for the wooden benches, but otherwise the place is really nice. We also enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, the service was either completely overwhelmed or rude. Good, and especially polite, service is what makes for a successful evening, and unfortunately, we didn't have that.

Fantastic food, excellent service, cool location!

Food was excellent. We took the tarte flambée, asparagus and the chicken. We can feel the products are fresh and well prepared. We also took the thym lemonade which was very good and not too sugary. We were quick to be served by a very agreeable staff in an amazing atmosphere by the river. I recommend the place ! Try to have the tables by the river for an even better experience.

The service was absolutely terrible, the food took ages to arrive and our server would not make eye contact with us. The location is great, the food is ok but there isn't much choice on the menu. The location is great and the place beautiful, I really like the cocktails too, but our evening out was ruined from how bad the service was

Das Restaurant war ein wenig schwer zu finden. Aber die Lage an der Spree ist sehr schön. Die Bedienung war sehr nett, aber im großen und ganzen würde ich es als uninteressant beschreiben. Und das Essen war lecker, allerdings war die Portionsgröße zum Preisverhältnis mehr als mangelhaft!!!! Schade, wir hatten mehr erwartet!

Es war ein perfekter Abend auf der schönen Terrasse bei strahlendem Sonnenschein . Durch die Markise war es nicht zu warm . Die Bepflanzung und das Plätschern der Spree lassen Urlaubsgefühle aufkommen. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und das Essen einfach toll. Absolut empfehlenswert.
