Katerschmaus in Berlin

Beautiful place on the water. We wanted to have lunch here and came in at 1:45 PM but they couldn't take any more orders because they close at 3:00 PM. It was also very busy but there were still more than enough tables available. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the terrace upstairs and returned for dinner. Service varies. A very friendly waiter and the other was moody to say the least. We had to wait a long time for the food and first received the order from another table. It took a long time before we got the attention of the waiter and the plates went straight to the right table, which then received a cold dish. The price quality is certainly not in proportion to the service level and quality of the food. I had a special, cold asparagus with rock hard potatoes and 2 pieces of chicken. I expected a lot more from this, but that's personal of course. They could have sold many more drinks but we constantly struggled to get the attention of the staff and our glasses remained empty. All in all we had an enjoyable evening but don't think we would return here.

Great food, nice ambience and cool place to have dinner as a group. The service could have been a bit faster and more attentive for my preference.

We had already been sitting for 20 minutes and had chosen... no one came to order... when we asked the waitress, she took the cards and ran away... what AMAZING! We sat on the terrace for 20 minutes only to be told it was too full. What an impudence!

Food was very good, but unfortunately took extremely long. However, the service was top notch with a wonderful group of servers who were personable, friendly and made the night great. Incredible views on the water, great selection of drinks.

Brought meat instead of the vegan dish. There is a vegan Bolognese and one with meat on the menu. When we asked whether it was really vegan, the waiter said that it had been ordered vegan but that the chefs had unintentionally brought the Bolognese with meat. Unfortunately it doesn't work at all. The waiter apologized sweetly, but the chefs didn't. Sorry, but it's just a no-go, it has to go in here for other vegans.

Better than walking around the center

The place is spectacular. Beautiful, comfortable, and delicious, although it's not cheap either. Very good service. We had a dish of the day, which cost between €15 and €17, plus drinks.

A truly excellent restaurant. Dishes prepared with love in an open kitchen, inviting you to linger in this beautiful and very romantic ambiance. PS: Matze (the manager?) is truly very attentive and one of the friendliest people I've probably met in my short time in Berlin.

I had a very nice evening. Staff are always in a good mood and always “on hand”. For me that evening I only had the tartare because I was too excited about the party. That was great, even the little sauces with it mmhhhh. The cocktails were also delicious. The ambience and the people rounded it off. That evening there was a cozy mix of families, dates and the usual hipsters. My personal highlight is the terrace directly on the Spree. In the evenings there is a fire and you can make yourself comfortable with a drink and a cigarette. I felt the prices were fair for what was on offer. Just one thing. When you use the toilet, you should be careful when turning the water on and off. My brother and I got ourselves completely wet. A waterfall shoots out if you turn too hard. They were nice at the beginning and then when it came to cutting the cake they wanted money for it. The barman was so cheeky that they ruined the whole birthday. I won't give them money so I can eat my cake. They tell us something like that beforehand and not after my great bill is for hundreds of euros. So pathetic

Conclusion: The mood was ruined! Our birthday was a complete failure and we left the restaurant very quickly. My tip: Learn to communicate friendly with your guests! A thank you to the waiter – he was really very nice! I went to this restaurant to celebrate my mother's birthday. We hadn't even had a chance to order food when I went to the waiter and asked if it was okay to bring the little bento cake I had baked for my mother. He replied that it was no problem. When the bartender heard this, he reacted angrily and told me that we had no right to do that - instead we had to pay €4.5-5 per person (there were three of us) and he wasn't interested. I would like to emphasize that he spoke to me rudely. As a matter of principle, I said that I wasn't willing to pay that much and instead asked to at least be allowed to take photos with the cake. He finally agreed to that. How am I supposed to understand this if one allows it and the other doesn't? What kind of politics is this? Why weren't we informed about this in advance? I asked to at least get a discount since it was a birthday. But he categorically refused.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my mother's birthday. Before we could even order anything, my sister asked the waiter if it would be okay to bring a small bento cake that I had baked for my mother. He said that wasn't a problem. But when the bartender found out about this, he reacted angrily and said that it wasn't allowed - instead we had to pay €4.5-5 per person (there were three of us). He showed no understanding and spoke in an unfriendly tone. My sister explained that we were not willing to pay that much as a matter of principle and asked to at least take a few photos with the cake. This was finally allowed. I understand if a restaurant has certain rules, but why are there such contradictory statements from the employees? The waiter was friendly and helpful while the bartender was rude. If we had been informed about the fee beforehand, we might have assessed the situation differently. Conclusion: The celebration was spoiled and we left the restaurant disappointed and quickly. My advice: Make sure you communicate clearly and respectfully with your guests. A big thank you to the nice waiter – his friendliness was the only bright spot of this visit!

I recently visited a restaurant and had mixed experiences. The waiter who served us was dressed in flashy, colorful clothes, which was likeable in a way, but clearly overshadowed his arrogant and cheeky manner. I had to pull myself together. When ordering, I felt like he was rather disinterested and condescending. Unfortunately, this attitude spoiled the overall impression, although the food was actually quite good (a little too dry, unfortunately) and served too carelessly. Plate and a piece of meat and a dollop of sauce, no decorative salad or anything, that's it. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant and welcoming, which was a positive aspect. It would have been nice to have one of the other waiters who seemed friendlier and more attentive. Overall it was a mixed experience. The food and atmosphere were great, but the service took a serious hit.

Very original restaurant with great service, great ambience and excellent quality of food. The restaurant is a bit hidden but is easy to find because it is well signposted. The service was very accommodating and friendly. And the food is beyond reproach. I had the mussels as a starter, what can I say, the best mussels that have ever touched my tongue. The main course (the beef fillet) was on point. My wife chose the fillet of skrei, also perfect. The price of the restaurant is a bit upscale, but the price-performance ratio is good because you really get quality. Absolute recommendation.

One of my favourite places to bring the visitors of Berlin over. My experience has always been fantastic - with food, curated selection of drinks and the staff is just the absolute sweetest. Your guests are bound to stay in awe with the quirky interiors. And let me tell you - I haven’t yet visited this place in the best (warm) season, which definitely gives it a benefit of a gorgeous view and a one-of-a-kind riverbank terrace.

Ein toller Fleck Gastro-Liebe! Großes Kompliment an alle Beteiligten. Service unfassbar gut. Aufmerksam, sympathisch und einfach gekonnt in allem was getan wird. Das Essen ist nicht nur unfassbar lecker, sondern auch sehr gut abgestimmt in der gesamten kulinarischen Ausrichtung. Dazu leckere Weine. Und nochmal: der Service haucht dem Laden mindestens genau so viel Leben ein, wie der gesamte Charme der Location. Großes Kompliment. Hier wird tolle Arbeit geleistet. Ich komme wieder sobald ich nochmal in Berlin bin.

During the day we were exploring Holzmarkt 25 and really liked the area. When we were walking around, we stumbled upon Katerschmaus. We made a reservation for our date night and had a great time!! Really cool place, delicious food and friendly staff!

We had our Christmas party at FAME and were all really excited about the stylish location by the water. The service team was very attentive and well-coordinated and the 3-course menu from the live kitchen was very tasty. Our people had a really nice celebration until after midnight. At the end the tables were cleared away and people danced. The music system is awesome, by the way! Many thanks to Desma!

Nice restaurant, modern, on the water, open kitchen. Prices are quite high. Had to wait a long time for the food. We decided on three components for two, which was a good choice. The fish was also a good portion. For some meat dishes it was quite small. Everything tasted ok. Overall a bit too expensive.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant and I can confidently say that it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambience of the restaurant further with "warm lighting and cozy seating. For the starter I tried the mussels and celery based “Sellerie aus dem Salzteig” these were amazing. I decided to try the fish for the main course and I was absolutely blown away. Every bite was sumptuous, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The attention to detail was evident, from the seasoning to the presentation. It was clear that the chefs take great pride in their craft, and the result was a truly memorable dish. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was fantastic. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful meal in a beautiful setting. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!

Tolle Location, leckeres Essen, sehr guter Service

Ich war mit Nicht-Berlinern hier. Sie sehr positiv überrascht, an dieser Stelle eine so gute Küche zu finden. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall im Sommer wieder, um die ganze Atmosphäre vom Holzmarkt und der Terrasse am Wasser zu erleben. Vielen Dank auch für den sehr freundlichen Service!

We had a business lunch there. I had a Caesar salad with shrimp. It was okay so far, but nothing special. Somehow the pep was missing. The other dishes looked good too. Pleasant atmosphere right on the water, very coolly decorated. Staff was attentive, but could have been a little nicer.

Zauberhaft wie immer, im Holzmarkt zu sein, aber der Mittagstisch im Katerschmaus ist echt besonders. Das Essen ist hervorragend und viel, alles ist liebevoll gemacht und die Stimmung ist entspannt und gehoben.Es war schoen!

A bit noisy and the service was nice, but rather stressful on the way - so we experienced the hangover feast, which offers top food and drinks. Not exactly cheap, but very tasty and definitely a recommendation for going out in this former trendy district. Any time!

The ambience was perfect, great food and very good selection of wines. The service however left a lot to be improved.

We made a reservation for 1930 on a Monday evening about an hour before the reservation time. The restaurant is located in a unique and beautiful market area along the river. The restaurant was a little difficult to find , but once we found it, it was just perfect! Ambience is beautiful, staff were quick and made great recommendations, and the timing between courses was great. It was a busy night and yet the staff were able to meet all our needs. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion, or when visiting Berlin! Will definitely return.

I was there during the Holzmarkt anniversary "20 years of everything and anything" and the place was amazing. Fine section of food, good atmosphere, music and the best people.

Wunderschöne Location mit toller Terrasse direkt an der Spree. Ausgefalle Aperitifs wie den Katersprizz mit Thymian. Tolle, frische und unglaublich leckere Gerichte mit freundlicher und zugewandter Beratung durch die Chefin selbst, deren Empfehlungen man gern folgen kann.

Unfortunately, during our visit the kitchen wasn't really up to expectations. But maybe the chef was just having a bad day. The employees are very friendly and the place is decorated in a cool way. Definitely worth a visit

What a gorgeous setting for dinner, along the Spree. The service was excellent and the dishes prepared with care. The tomato salad had the perfect mix of flavours and the salmon just the right amount of crunchy tasty skin.

After more than one hour waiting I didn't get the food. My waiter said due to a mistake she forgot to send my order to the kitchen. I couldn't believe it, it's never happened to me any time in good restaurants. Not recommend.

I can only give 5 in everything, I would give more if there were more 😊 great atmosphere on the Spree. The food was delicious and the waitress was super friendly!

Ambience is great! And the food was ok too. But you can't repeatedly insult and reprimand a group that spends thousands of euros on an evening. So service was really difficult.

The food was quite average and there were limited vegetarian options. The service was poor and seemed to have an attitude. One of our drinks had a fly in it, and when we asked for a replacement, the server acted as if he needed to prove there was no fly, despite it being clearly visible. All our food arrived at different times, with a 40-minute wait between appetizers and mains. We had to remind the staff about forgotten items, and we were laughed at when requesting to split the bill. Won’t be going there again.

The place and the food were absolutely amazing. The only comment that I have is for the waiter behaviour - when I asked for ice and an ashtray, he replied sarcasticly "Anything else, a massage for example?" 🫤

Excellent experience at Katerschmaus! I had the pleasure of dining at Katerschmaus in Berlin recently and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The ambience is unique and charming, a perfect mix of cozy atmosphere and urban chic. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was simply fantastic! Each dish was carefully prepared and the flavors were perfectly balanced. I would particularly like to highlight the creative and innovative combinations that you cannot find on every menu. The presentation of the dishes was also at the highest level. The wine selection was also impressive, and the service staff's recommendations were spot on. Overall, the evening was an absolute highlight and I'm looking forward to coming back soon. Katerschmaus is definitely a must for anyone looking for great food in Berlin!

Es war alles gut, bis auf das Rauchen am neben uns gestellten Nachbartisch (wir hatten einen klienen Tisch, neben einem anderen kleinen Tisch). Ich finde das beim Essen störend. Da es ein offenes Lokal ist, ist Rauchen erlaubt.

Very nicely located restaurant with a great ambience, unfortunately I also have to criticize the female service. We only had something to drink and we were immediately told that we had to get up if guests wanted food... a guest who only had a drink today would definitely eat next time if the service was right...

Mega delicious food. I got the one vegan dish there was. The pickled radishes tasted absolutely fantastic. The cassava was interesting and had a delicious texture and sweet taste, but didn't taste like much more than the delicious sauce that was on the plate. It was the same with tempeh. The asparagus tasted really nice and simple. Good options for wine. The other dishes tasted absolutely fantastic. My food was not 5/5, but the others enjoyed their dishes so much that the food gets 5/5. The service was nice and cozy and calm. The atmosphere was fantastic. So delicious to sit right down by the water.

The restaurant is located directly on the Spree, with a terrace right on the water. The atmosphere is made very inviting and cozy by numerous plants, warm lights and tasteful decorations. I had the beef fillet from Emsland. The Emsland beef fillet is tender and juicy, accompanied by a great truffle mousseline that is rich and creamy. The bacon beans add a savory, slightly smoky note, while the jus adds a full-bodied depth. A very harmonious dish.

Unfortunately I had a very bad experience with the service today. Every special request seemed to be too much for the waitress; no anchovies in the Caesar salad seemed to be a big problem. Could I get the side salad in a normal size? Impossible. In general there seemed to be a very tense atmosphere between the kitchen and service. Since we were sitting right next to the kitchen, we were able to see the whole thing really well. And to be honest, I would also expect that if 1 out of 4 Halloumi's that we paid extra for fell on the floor, we would get a replacement. The restaurant was on my list for a long time and I was very disappointed. Please invest in friendly service, then your guests might come back.

Today we got a table at Katerschmaus for the first time with friends who were visiting Berlin (we didn't reserve in advance because it was a spontaneous idea). The service was very friendly and very good at the beginning, but when 2 out of 5 people "only" decided on a salad, the waitress' mood immediately changed ("o-ton: if we had time to order more, that would be nice, they would have." no"). We were speechless...I've never experienced anything like that! The ambience and the food were great, the service at reception was wonderful. The service, however, was not service-oriented or friendly. - Addendum - Thank you very much for the quick, friendly and professional response! The waitress was female, I hope you can clarify it accordingly - it would be a real shame if the great atmosphere and the good food were ultimately remembered in such a way because of unfriendliness.

Food was good, and location is awesome. The service was below average on this day. Not friendly, not able to adapt menus or answer questions and even sarcastic jokes about questions

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such bad service and rudeness in any restaurant. The last place I would ever go too.

I went there twice: once on a date and another time with my family. The location on the river is lovely and it is always fun to go through Holzmarket. This restaurant is a wonderful option to go to before, during or after a session at the Katerblau club next door. The food is good and the service is subpar on the gruff side

We had a corporate dinner there and all of the people who ate beef that night got food poisoning. It was terrible experience and affected our business trip.

At this somewhat hard to find place the food itself was delicious & artfully prepared. We happily ate every bite of our shared beef tenderloin. Unfortunately the server was unbelievably rude and judgmental about just about everything we ordered. No matter what we ordered she tried to convince us to order something else,including an improbable vegan ceviche (jackfruit).
