Das Java ist ein recht authentisches indonesisches Restaurant in Hamburg dessen gut gekürzten Speisen den Liebhabern asiatischer Küche gefallenen wird. Die Portionen sind aber so gross, dass kein normaler Mensch sie schaffen kann.

Very tasty and authentic Indonesian cuisine restaurant! We tried their legendary Rendang dish 😍 (stewed beef in coconut sauce 🍲🥥). It is a rich meat-based dish that is slow-cooked and braised in coconut milk, can’t recommend it enough!! Also, we took fried chicken breast with peanut sauce (Ayam goreng tepung saos Kacang), it was delicious too! Recommend!! 👌🏼

Food was excellent. Better than any Indonesian place I’ve been in Europe so far. Service was actually good, though I didn’t have to deal with more senior staff. Highly recommended!

Extremely delicious & authentic food - it tastes like back home! We have already tried a few dishes and everything was really delicious! I particularly recommend Wantan Goreng, Mie Sup Wantan with Bakso, Ayam Kremes, Nasi Goreng and Sate Ayam. The service is always very friendly and attentive. I can also recommend the weekend specials, which are always different! (e.g. Nasi Campur, Soto Ayam, Bubur Ayam etc.)

Rather inconspicuous from the outside, very comfortably furnished inside. The food tastes outstanding. Despite the many guests, the staff is consistently friendly, courteous and attentive. The hoisin sauce is to die for!

Even though we were there before 6 p.m. our order was not accepted, they said the boss had already closed the kitchen. It's a shame if you don't even stick to the times given. Even though we were there on time and had announced it by phone, we asked for it again on site but it was not accepted. Because of this incompetence of goodwill NOT recommended!!! If access is only until 5:30 p.m., then you should check this on your website. We didn't need the card because we already knew what we wanted to eat and tried to accommodate them to save time. Didn't know that it was part of their restaurant rules to have to look at the menu. In addition, we weren't told on the phone that access was only until 5:30 p.m., we were told if we got there before 6 p.m. we could then order. That was also the main reason why we were deeply disappointed. But thanks anyway for the tip to take a closer look.

A real insider tip! This family business impresses with authentic and delicious cuisine. The prices are fair and the employees (daughters) always give friendly and helpful recommendations. My favorite dish is definitely the rendang. Highly Recommended!

Unfortunately we didn't like it. The sauces were very bland, one was much too sweet and the other only tasted like sweet soy sauce. The mango was not fresh and the duck was inedible due to the sauce. We know Indonesian cuisine well, but unfortunately the dishes we ordered were a disappointment. The restaurant was very busy and the waitresses were not attentive. We waited over 30 minutes when we wanted to pay. We were ignored, as was the food that was almost untouched. We ended up having to pay at the bar, where the staff was also unfriendly. The toilets urgently need renovation! Attention: Only cash payment possible

The first time I set foot in Germany, I immediately browsed Indonesian cuisine and came across this restaurant, Indonesian cuisine, especially Javanese cuisine, it tastes delicious, the portions are large, 1 portion of fried rice can serve 2 people

Super leckeres und authentisches Essen direkt in der City! Hier gehen meine Kollegen und ich sehr gerne in der Mittagszeit essen. Das Essen ist grandios und die Servicekräfte nett und aufmerksam. Location ist jetzt nicht super fancy, muss ich aber auch nicht haben. Preise sind echt fair!

Heute haben wir uns spontan entschieden, im Jawa etwa zum Mitnehmen zu kaufen. Total nette Bedienung, super leckeres Essen und faire Preise. Kartenzahlung war leider nicht möglich, aber zum Glück Paypal.

Das Essen ist so lecker da 😍 Schade finde ich, dass es abends nicht so lange auf hat. Da schafft man dann leider nur am Wochenende hinzugehen. Aber jeder Besuch ist immer wieder eine tolle und leckere Erfahrung.

Bei einer Suche nach authentischen asiatischen Restaurants sind wir auf das Jawa gestoßen - und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Das Essen weckte Kindheitserinnerungen! Schmeckte super lecker und die Atmosphäre war auch gut. Wir kommen definitiv wieder

Für dieses Restaurant lohnt sich der Aufwand andernthalb Stunden von Bremen nach Hamburg mit dem Auto. Nirgendwo sonst bekomme ich solch authentisch Indonesische Speisen geboten, welche mich an Heimat und Kindheit erinnern. Zugegeben spricht hier sehr viel persönliche Begeisterung heraus und mein Sohn hat am Restaurant viel zu meckern von "Lecker, aber nicht gesund" bis hin zu "durch und durch authentischer Dekoration und Atmosphäre von traditionellen Indonesischen Gaststätten". Aber genau das will ich und genau das bekomme ich hier. Sei es ikan lele, martabak oder es cendol, es ist perfekt Indonesisch. Der Besuch für Landsleute die in Deutschland länger leben nahezu ein Muss um der Heimat wieder ein bisschen näher zu sein. Sei es nur wegen dem sambal terasi. Natürlich bietet das Restaurant auch Speisen an die dem "westlichen Gaumen mehr munden" wie leckere gebratene Ente in Mango-Soße. Kriegt man hier auch, nur keine 08/15 Speisen wie bei pseudo-Mongolen/Chinesen/Japanern im Buffet. Hier ist es a la carte und echt. Preise stimmen auch. Nur manchmal recht schwierig da das Restaurant abgelegen liegt mit schlechten Parkmöglichkeiten. Hinzu kommt das es praktisch immer gut belegt ist. Aber die Speisen sind es wert. Und der rege Kundenzulauf spricht dafür. Selamat makan!

Last week was my 3rd visit to this Indonesian Restaurant and I couldn't recommend it more! We ordered Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), Wonton Soup, Sate Kambing (Goat Satay), and Es Cendol. They were all on point with authentic taste (I know because I'm Indonesian). The portion was also satisfying as you can see in the photo with that big portion of fried rice. The staffs were also very accommodating and friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you're craving for authentic Indonesian cuisine!

Für uns das beste Indonesische Restaurant in ganz Hamburg. Traditionell und von Geschmack, so wie man von der Indonesische Küche kennt. Es gibt den Mittagstisch, große Portion, für wenig Geld. Selbst viele Einheimischen Indonesier, gehen dort sehr gerne essen. Preisleistungsverhältniss bezahlbar und man wird richtig satt. Wenn man mit mehreren Personen dort essen geht, sollte man ein Tisch reservieren. Manchmal auch mehrere Wochen vorher ankündigen. Zur zweit, kriegt man eher ein Tisch, wenn man Glück hat, wenn man spontan hinfährt. Wir kommen immer gerne wieder. Vielen Dank

Das Essen war unfassbar gut. Wir waren zu viert da und hatten Recht unterschiedliche Gerichte, es war alles überragend. Ja man wartet zwischendurch lange auf Getränke, aber es ist wirklich noch ein Familienbetrieb. Das das Essen nicht nur uns gut geschmeckt hat, sondern authentisch ist sieht man auch am Publikum. Sehr leckeres indonesisches Essen! Die Ente in Mangosauce ist sehr zu empfehlen. Die Portionen sind groß und preiswert. Die Speisekarte hat allerlei zu bieten an indonesischen Spezialitäten, auch ein paar „normale“ asiatische Gerichte sind vorhanden. Einziges Manko ist, dass man nicht mit Karte zahlen kann.

Waren zu zweit zum Mittagessen dort. Ja es war voll, mussten warten und bekamen danach ein Tisch zugewiesen. Leider mussten wir auch warten bis die Bestellung aufgenommenen wurde, dafür war die Suppe und der Bratreis schön heiß und lecker. Es waren nur 2 Kellner da vielleicht hat alles deswegen länger gedauert. Alles dort ist Halal, das war uns wichtig!

Heute die 3 Reservierung innerhalb von 6 Wochen vorgenommen. Das sagt schon einiges. Ein super nettes Team und eine tolle Küche. Sehr vielseitig und für jeden was dabei. Das Nasi Goreng war einfach klasse und auch die Wan Tan sind sehr gut. Ich hätte in der City Süd nicht erwartet ein so tolles Restaurant zu finden. Lasst euch auf keinen Fall von der Fassade (Bürogebäude) abschrecken, ihr werdet hier ein tolles kleines Restaurant vorfinden. Alle Begleiter waren ebenfalls begeistert von ihren Gerichten. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Leckeres Essen, wird frisch zubereitet. Für die Mittagspause also etwas Zeit mitbringen, da auch in der Regel gut besucht. Parkplätze sind leider knapp.

We hadden al gelezen dat dit restaurantje goed beviel bij veel mensen. Aangezien wij graag Indonesisch eten was het leuk om te ontdekken dat dit restaurant in de buurt van onze verblijfplaats was. We hebben overheerlijk gegeten. Het was veel te veel ( natuurlijk) en de prijs was zo goedkoop. Een dikke aanrader dus.

Wir warteten zwei Stunden auf das Essen und eine auf die Getränke. Es kann ja mal Stress geben in der Küche aber man könnte es kommunizieren und wenigstens mal ein paar Nüsse und Wasser servieren. Wären wir nicht mit meiner indonesischen Schwägerin da gewesen, wären wir nicht geblieben.

Went in in search for good Indonesian food. Place looks unimpressive from the outside in an office building but was nice and spacious inside. Food was delicious, portions were generous (Beef Rendang, Chicken Satay). Staff was ok, friendly but a bit inattentive - took a bit to place orders (unfortunately not the typical Indonesian hospitality). Still I would come back again. Note: only cash accepted!

Es war unser erster Ausflug in die Indonesische Küche und wir haben es nicht bereut. Wenn alleine viele Indonesier selbst dort essen, ist das allein schon ein gutes Zeichen. Das Restaurant ist einfach eingerichtet. Das Personal nicht sonderlich schnell aber immer super freundlich. Das Essen ist dafür aber einfach nur klasse. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Wir waren für eine Nacht in Hamburg und wollten wieder Mal indonesisch ausprobieren. Haben auch direkt einen Tisch für den selben Abend reservieren können. Leider fing das Debakel direkt mit dem Hinsetzen an. Ja, das Restaurant war voll, es ist aber auch nicht das allergrößte, so dass ich es nicht akzeptieren kann, dass man die Speisekarte erst nach 20 Minuten bringt. Als wir dann bestellt haben, hat es noch 90 Minuten gedauert, bis das Essen auf dem Tisch stand!!!! Wir hatten drei Essen bestellt, die Kinder haben sich eins geteilt. Dummerweise wurde das Gericht für die Kinder noch nachträglich als letztes gebracht, was der eh schon unterirdischen Laune der Kinder nicht gerade zuträglich war. Die Qualität des Essens war super; es war alles köstlich und raffiniert gewürzt. Dennoch geht es einfach gar nicht, dass das Essen kommentarlos so lange auf sich warten lässt. Ich hatte das Gefühl dass man nur alle 15 Minuten Gerichte aus der Küche bringt.

Hatte einen sehr feinen Tofu und Tempe und kann es nur weiter empfehlen! Der Eingang ist etwas versteckt über den Haupteingang ins Bürogebäude, das Restaurant aber schön eingerichtet und der Service sehr freundlich. Achtung: Nur Barzahlung möglich!

Wir waren Freitagabend hier. Etwas unscheinbar in einem Bürokomplex versteckt, hatten wir ein recht gutes indonesisches Abendessen. Es erinnerte mich wirklich an meine Reise nach Indonesien. Scharf und würzig. Freitags und Samstags gibt es noch ein paar Spezialitäten mehr auf der Karte. Der Service war etwas überfordert aber freundlich. Leider keine Kartenzahlung möglich... wer nicht so scharf mag, muss das äußern :-)

Wir gehen gelegentlich zur Mittagspause ins Jawa. Die gebratenen Nudeln sind wirklich lecker, allerdings variieren die Wartezeiten sehr stark. Es gibt Tage, an denen bekommt man sein Essen in 15 Minuten, an anderen Tagen muss man 50 Minuten warten - sehr unglücklich, wenn man die Zeit nicht mitbringt. Die Belegschaft (bis auf eine kleine Stammbelegschaft) wechselt sehr häufig. Fazit: Wenn ihr Zeit mitbringt, bekommt ihr mittags ein leckeres Essen zu fairen Preisen. Aber auch nur dann.

War gestern mit einem Freund in Hamburg auf Besuch und hatten abends Hunger im Hotel. Wir suchten ein Restaurant und sind dann auf dieses gestoßen, da wir sagten ok testen wir es. Nettes freundliches Personal. Für diese Gerichte ist der Preis zu fair. Wir haben beide unseren Teller nicht geschafft und der Preis war mehr als in Ordnung. Die Speisenkarten könnten mal erneuert werden. Im Großen und Ganzen zu empfehlen. Wir kommen wieder.

Vi hittade det här på slump. Lördag kväll men i detta område är allt stängd. När vi gick förbi hörde vi massor med folk igenom fönstret. Här hittade vi en dold pärla! Service var bra (och på engelska) och maten var så god och mycket prisvärt!

We had the Bakso Campur, Sate Ayam Hotplate, Batagor and Nasi Goreng Kambing Pedas. The foods are amazing - delicious, big portion, authentic and good price as well. The place is spacious and clean, so its good to dine with family and friends. But, the service is overrated - they are not kind like typical Indonesian but of course, nothing is wrong here.. it's just does not feel like home when you are Indonesian and eating at Indonesian restaurant, the people are mostly the centre of the whole atmosphere. ;)

We wanted to try Indonesian food that day, as our son was missing it. We thus came for lunch and tried a few our favourites. Service was pleasant and friendly. We tried - to our request - a very spicy Beef Rendang. Although we like it with more coconut flavour and dry, we were anonymous to say that was well cooked with the right flavours. The other dish was Mie Bakso and again the flavours were right. So, not a hip place ; but you eant to try Indonesian food, this is the place to go in Hambourg.

The restaurant was a bit dirty with the floor being sticky and the baby chair really dirty and we had to clean our self. The food was oke, just that 1 dish was not prepared and after telling they bring it afterwards but it was wrong preparation. Ordered a fish goreng but they prepared fish bakar. After posting these comments on instagram before, the owner replied to these comments as big lies and was totaly not ammused. The personal was not realy friendly and had a face that wouldnt invite to go have a pleasent meal there again. To bad this the only one in Hamburg, maybe if there was 1 of two more that the competion would improve their quality of food and services.

The restaurant is located just outside the city center and odly enough doesn't really look like a restaurant from the outside. However once you enter you receive a very warm welcome. Any confusion we had was resolved in detail by one of the waiters and we were also advised certain dishes according to our personal preferences for that night. The food was delicious and fresh, all the plates returned to the kitchen empty.

We had lunch here today and were very impressed. Having lived in indonesia for many years and travelled throughout the country I thought the food was remarkably similar to that found at any warung (cafe) in indo. The recent negative comments from 'paul' are sadly incorrect. However if you do not understand the indonesian restaurant culture then a confused western guest may struggle here. Do not wait to be seated and expect your food to come out when ready not necessarily at the same time. Our waiter was very polite and welcoming, the portions were very big and very good value for money. The drinks menu is again typical indonesian warung style, simple. This is clearly a restaurant run by indonesian's and this reflects throughout the experience. Top marks for me.

Located 10 mnt walk from st. Georg, this restaurant offers you authentic Indonesian cuisine. Recommended dishes: chicken satay, bakso kuah, pecel Lele (indonesian catfish served with tasty chilly sauce). The price is average. Not to miss the happy hour time (weekday from 11 till 16)!

The food is great! You get the Indonesian taste in it. A very simple restaurant that has a big menu with mostly Indonesian staff. A few staff are rude and unfriendly and it was difficult for me to communicate with them because I don't speak German and the majority didn't speak Indonesian/English

After reading good reviews of several diners who have been patrons of this restaurant, we were misled into believing this restaurant deserves a visit. However, our first time will be our last time to come to this restaurant. Here is our honest opinion. Service: Poor 1. After arriving and being sat down to our reserved seats, we waited for at least 20 minutes before being approached by the waiter/waitress. 2. For the price class category of this restaurant, their service staff was really meagre and lacking in knowledge of their menu. We have to repeat our orders 2-3 times. 3. After ordering our drinks, appetisers and main courses, the ordered food did not arrive according to what was ordered. Wrong dishes were served and another dish did not arrive even after we finished eating. 4. The waitress was very impolite and having the sense of urgency that we should accept the food being served even though it's the wrong dish. Food and drinks: Mediocre 1. The choices of exotic drinks are ones that comes from a tetra pack. 2. If you ordered for water, its served in a glass and not from a bottle. Surely you could just imagine the water coming from the tap. 3. The appetisers were acceptable but not that special. 4. The main courses tasted almost similar from one another making us think that we ordered the same types of dishes. 5. The food was served as if it waited long enough in the kitchen (warm not hot). We did not try and wasted our time calling for desserts after having this sad experience. Summary: Not worth visiting Having visited more than our share of authentic Indonesian cuisines, this one will not pass even with great hunger and famish. Bottomline is, the reviewers ought to be objective and should have made comparisons to similar restaurants before leaving their fair share of comments.

It's a surprise to find authentic Javanese cuisine in Germany. The owner is friendly, nice location near a station, clean place and the price is very reasonable too. It also offers lunch menus.

The presentation of the food is nice. The Rendang with pineapple is new for us. The beef of the rendang is also so tender, but we think that the taste is unfortunately already modified into European taste. The kwetiau or the noodle for us is little bit dry, and the beef also tender. The es campur or ice mixed is really refreshing taste. The Martabak is good. The price is not so expensive and the portion of the food is much. The place itself is quite far from the centre and tricky to find.

I visited Jawa restaurant twice. The first one, we came after my husband called them a day before,to ask if they were open on Thursday before Easter break. We decided to call because we couldn´t find opening hours info on the internet. The lady on the phone answered in a rush that they will be open on 07.00 PM (she was in a rush but clearly mention the opening hours for Thursday). As we arrived there at 7 PM Thursday, a girl came and told us that it was the closing time. What?? We were very disappointed, as we came to Hamburg after 3 hours train trip from our city. I told her, how could be it´s already closing time, meanwhile, we had called them to make sure that we arrive on time that day. Without even apologize (even though maybe it was not her on the phone a day before), the girl blamed us saying that "no restaurant starting to open only at 7 PM." But hello..it was your staff who told us. Anyway, we finally ordered for takeaway. Second visit, we arrived on time when the restaurant opened, as I already took the photo of opening hours on the menu in the first disappointing visit. Food are really great. We ordered Nasi Goreng Kambing Pedas (Spicy Lamb Fried Rice), Gado-gado (Indonesian salat with peanut sauce), Sate Kambing (grilled lamb), Bakso Campur (meatball soup with noodle), Ayam Rica-Rica (spicy chicken), all were really good. Especially Nasi goreng kambing and Sate Kambing. Very authentic Indonesian taste and spicy. It´s a bit pricey but the food came in a big portion. A must visit for whom who want to taste Indonesian food. Just remember the opening hours: Monday-Thursday : 11.30 - 19.00 Friday : 11.30 - 22.00 Saturday : 13.30 - 22.00 Sunday : closed. And for any staff who answers the phone, please give correct information and more focus on the phone. It seems impolite when you speak on the phone, but we know that you were not listening--in the end you gave us a wrong information.

Surprisingly, so far here is the only place in Germany where Indonesian's taste is still authentic. They even sell Indonesian's tea (Teh Botol) for the drinks. One thing to remember here, the portion of each food is big and massive.... totally different with European standard of meal portion. The taste is delicious and the price is reasonable as well. To go to this place, the closest train station will be Hamburg-Hammerbrook (S3 line). They only open from 11:30am - 7pm.

Visited with friends. We had had gadagada and noodles. Two of our party and beef with noodles and also we had rice. It was all very tasty and great service. Nice atmosphere in Jawa. The beers were nice too.

Atmosphere is acceptable, food is good, families like to come to this place, so it can get quite loud with children running around, but hey that's life. What counts is the fact that such a restaurant exists... good that you're there!
