Giovanni Rocco in Hamburg

Unfortunately our reservation was lost when we wanted to visit the restaurant on November 23rd, 2024. It seemed we weren't the only ones feeling this way. The already very cramped restaurant was full of people who were supposed to be put off with a glass of champagne. We were supposed to wait 10 minutes, but after that there was still no table available and more and more people came, so that the restaurant was completely overcrowded and the staff was overwhelmed. We then decided to go….

Super great atmosphere there, very, very nice employees and also very open! A great place to celebrate your birthday🥳

At Giovanni's you can eat very, very tasty food. I can also recommend the house recommendation beetroot gnocchi. The staff was very friendly and quick. There is a point deduction for the ambience because it gets very loud in the restaurant when there is a lot of visitors.

Very nice atmosphere not far from the Reeperbahn! Had a very good meal there! Get a free Prosecco at the beginning and a schnapps afterwards! The waiters very friendly and helpful! The only negative is that I would have liked to reserve a table, but I couldn't reach anyone with the number posted online! Nobody responded to emails either! We'd love to come back!

Cozy and authentic Italian that makes you feel good. There was a welcome aperitif. Starters were very tasty. The pizzas were okay, but the pasta looked great. You should reconsider the “paying area”, it is located right next to the toilets. If it's really full and you have to wait there for a short time, you'll quickly get a door in the back.

Inconspicuous Italian not far from the short break. Friendly owner, brilliant food... And ordered pasta from an Italian restaurant for the first time. Great if you, as a tourist, want to eat very well not far from the Reeperbahn. Keep it up.

I have been eating out for years and it is one of the rare places where I enjoy both the cuisine and the close attention of the staff. I would like to thank the owner and the staff wholeheartedly.

Lens can be given 5* here. Personally, it was too small for me and at times too loud, but that's what makes it so charming for some others. The pizza is original Italian, the base is perfectly thin. The portions were good, there was a sparkling wine on the house, bread with herb butter as a starter, also on the house. The service is very friendly and you feel like you are in good hands here.

A very lively and cozy restaurant near the Reeperbahn. The service is very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is narrow, but that's what gives it a special atmosphere. The food is top and the prices are moderate. We will definitely come back on our next trip to Hamburg!

Oh well... To be honest, we didn't particularly like it. The store was so incredibly crowded and loud that we could barely hold a conversation. The pizzas were okay, but nothing special. The service was great, there was nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, we wouldn't go back again.

If you prefer it quiet, this isn't the right place for you! True to the temperament of Italy, it is loud, but more like being at home in a kitchen with an extended family, it is rustic! You feel invited to a shared meal with fine ingredients, balanced and coordinated spices, delicious wines and a relaxed atmosphere that is not often found these days. Now the food: simply great. Quite apart from the fact that the price-performance ratio is absolutely excellent, you really get the most delicious dishes served here, the preparation of which you can also watch from the front dining room, as the dishes are made in an open kitchen. We'll definitely be back!!!!

Quaint Italian restaurant, delicious 😋 food, nice ambience, nice people...

The four of us spontaneously went in and were immediately given a table with the information that it would be needed in an hour, which was completely fine with us. Everyone is welcomed with a small Prosecco to groove into. As always, the restaurant was packed, loud and hot - in a nice way. Food came quickly and - as previously mentioned - starters and main courses at the same time. It was awesome. The lamb fillet melted in your mouth, the bruschetta was fresh and tasty, the truffle sauce was delicious. Big praise and respect to the team on site for the service that is still offered during the evening business.

Three of us dined here on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was very busy even though it was during the week. Good thing we reserved a table in advance. You can do this on the homepage and then you will receive a confirmation by email. As soon as we sat down we were given a glass of champagne, bread with garlic butter and a bruschetta each on the house. For the main course we had homemade porcini mushroom ravioli with truffle cream sauce, tagliatelle with mascarpone/chestnuts/scampi and spaghetti with prawns. We were very enthusiastic about the delicious food and of course we didn't miss out on dessert. There was tiramisu and tartoffo strawberry. Unfortunately, the dessert didn't blow us away as much as the pasta. But that's not a bad thing, next time we'll know what's going on and we'll order a portion of starter or pasta instead of dessert :) Giovanni Rocco is what you would imagine a typical Italian restaurant to be: loud, crowded, narrow, cozy and warm. I thought it was really great, thank you very much! I'm already looking forward to my next visit there :)

The service here was really first class. Before the menus were given, an aperitif was put on the table and greetings from the kitchen. I have never experienced the huge burrata like that before. After the delicious pizza there was a schnapps on the house. I can highly recommend this Italian restaurant.

The food was delicious. The service was so unfriendly and after an hour told us to pay and leave. Cash payment only. It's a shame that you had to experience such unfriendly service because it ended the evening in a bad mood.

Food was very tasty, a bit cramped but cozy. Unfortunately, our waitress was very unfriendly and, despite a reservation, simply threw us out after almost an hour, even though we still wanted dessert and coffee. The argument was that they told us we would only have the table until that time, which was never the case. With this disrespectful treatment, even good food is of no use.

After standing in vain in front of closed doors at two other locations on a Tuesday afternoon, we tried our luck at Giovanni's and were not disappointed! The nice service employee had already seen our suffering and was very accommodating, nice but not intrusive. All three of us had pizza, which was ready quickly, tasted great and was more than enough. Absolutely great value for money, we would love to come back.

The Giovanni Rocco restaurant in Hamburg is a good address for Italian cuisine. Particularly noteworthy are the pasta with boiled beef – a successful combination of tender meat and perfectly prepared pasta. Even if the shop is a bit old, it still exudes a cozy charm that invites you to linger. The prices are absolutely justified, especially considering the quality of the food. Another plus point are the extremely friendly waiters who look after the guests attentively. Definitely worth a visit!

I had dinner there with my family yesterday and I have to say it was really tasty. The service was really nice, there was a glass of Prosecco on the house and delicious bread with a very tasty herb butter dip. The pizza was amazing, it was so big that it didn't even fit on the plate. Price-performance ratio was top. It wasn't the last time we were there. Highly recommended.

I had dinner there with my girlfriend for our anniversary. We were greeted warmly at the reception and shown to a comfortable table. The ambience is quite narrow, but at the same time cozy, which creates a pleasant atmosphere. However, the volume in the room is quite high, which is understandable given the size, but makes conversation difficult. A nice touch was the champagne and bread that were served to us as a welcome - the bread was particularly delicious. As a starter we had Vitello Tonnato, which tasted very good and is definitely worth recommending. For the main course: I had the penne with truffles and I have to say they were fantastic. Since I come from the catering industry myself, I have high standards, but the taste was really excellent - light and perfectly balanced. My girlfriend had a pepperoni pizza. It was typically Italian, very thin, but a little too thin for our taste. Nevertheless, the topping was excellent and the overall taste was above average. All in all it was a very successful evening. The pasta in particular was my highlight, and we would definitely come back. Great service, nice ambience, friendly boss and clean toilets. We even drove two hours that evening – and it was absolutely the right decision!

We spontaneously went to eat at the restaurant and got a table inside. The place is really chic but it was extremely loud inside because everything was pretty full. We were served quickly and the drinks were quickly at the table. Food also came a short time later. I had a lasagna which was okay. Most of the others at the table had pizza, and they were really, really good.

Unfortunately, the four of us had to wait over an hour for our food, even though the people at the next table came 20 minutes after us and got their food 15 minutes before us. When we finally got the food and were finished with it, we were told that payment was only possible in cash. Then we went to the next ATM, which wasn't so bad anyway as your bottom was really hurting from the hard, uncushioned seats after all that time. The food is good in terms of price-performance, but with the service with repeated requests for the food and no card payment, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone for a relaxed evening. Too bad...

We “only” had bruschetta and a Margherita pizza, but it tasted so boring and bland that we added more seasoning. Payment by card was not possible. It would have been nice to have been able to point this out before ordering. So we first had to run to the bank and get cash. The aperitif was of no use either, especially since the glasses weren't clean.

Das Essen (Pizza) war geschmacklich weit unten den Erwartungen von einem 4,7 Sterne italienische Restaurant. Da der Betreiber auf Google aber alle negativen Bewertungen löschen lässt, kein Wunder das der Laden immer voll ist. Nicht blenden lassen und lieber woanders eine Pizza essen.

Super toller Empfang mit leckerer Vorspeisenplatte. Mega aufmerksam und auch einen leckeren Aperol zu Beginn. So kann ein Abend doch starten. Waren mit 13 Leuten da und das hat alles prima geklappt. Auch die Speisekarte mal etwas anders als normal. Daher eine top Bewertung!!!

I've never had such good pasta. We came across this insider tip through a friend. Everything was occupied except for the last table! Hammer! Nevertheless, all the employees tried very hard and delivered Even gave us a drink outside on the house. Such nice staff, great cuisine and great service. If I'm in Hamburg again, I will definitely visit this restaurant again.

Pasta was good but the pizza was mid. The staff was very welcoming but increased the tip on the paying machine without us noticing (could be a mistake). The atmosphere on the outside terrace, on those big tables was very pleasant however.

If you haven't eaten here yet, you should do so as soon as possible. Top service, top team and very tasty food. You watch the cooking and are amazed. The place was “packed” and the food was on the table in 10 minutes. When we are back in Hamburg we would be happy to visit you again.

Update: Of course I also received a lawyer's letter about this review, it's unbelievable. In short: In my experience one of the worst restaurants in Hamburg, where I ate one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. That's why the restaurant has been trying every means possible to have critical reviews deleted for several months. You can therefore in no way rely on the reviews here and should definitely avoid this restaurant. For background, if you're interested - I think this entire process speaks for itself. I wrote an innocuous two-star review several years ago: "★★ Not good pizza." This review was based on a visit several days earlier where I had eaten a Pizza Funghi that didn't taste good at all - one of the worst pizzas I've ever eaten. Of course, the rating expresses this fact in a completely permissible way as a subjective expression of opinion. Several months ago, Google informed me that the restaurant "Giovanni Rocco" had reported this review as "defamation" and wanted to have it deleted. I then provided further information and Google then informed me that the content was acceptable and had been reactivated: "Google has decided to reactivate the content based on the new information provided by the complainant." Yesterday I was informed that the restaurant "Giovanni Rocco" had reported exactly the same review as "defamation". I then informed Google that it had already decided that the post was legitimate and had been restored and asked whether I really needed to send all the information again. Google then informed me today that the review will remain deleted. I think this entire process speaks for itself. You should definitely avoid a restaurant that has to have a harmless review such as “Not a good pizza” vehemently deleted several times as “defamation” over several months.

The food is delicious and they really make every effort to please all of the guests! The ambience is of course a matter of taste, but so much for that... You won't find a romantic restaurant here. Our recommendation... Now eat your food outside in the summer...

On Friday we had another incredibly lovely evening with 10 friends at Giovanni's. I have never ordered from the menu but, as always, I ordered a starter and main course as a surprise meal for my friends. Incredibly good. We have never been disappointed!!! Thanks to Gio and team

Professional reception, familiar, almost historical atmosphere, quite a bit of noise. Then super delicious food, Prosecco at the beginning, Ramazotti at the end. Great price, warm farewell. Giovanni at his best. Visited again, simply super brilliant location. Perfect all around.

Actually, I have always been very satisfied and come to the restaurant regularly. As always, the food was delicious, unfortunately our service employee was so unfriendly yesterday that we were about to leave. He (black down vest) initially ignored us and then was so unpleasantly unfriendly and annoyed with every interaction that we considered changing tables to hopefully get another waiter or leaving. But as I said, the food was great as always.
