In de Grund in Otterndorf

Unfortunately, word hasn't gotten around that crabs have been available again at reasonable prices for several months now. They are, however, listed on the online menu. The roast beef has also been unavailable for four months, and the side salad (€5.50) consisted of just a few large leaves of lettuce. The redfish was very good. The restaurant was only occupied by eight guests on Sunday, January 4th!

We were a group of 11 guests at De Grund for New Year's Eve. The food was excellent, the service superb. Thank you for a successful start to our New Year's Eve! Keep up the good work!

The plaice was cooked to perfection with a delicious butter sauce. The vegetarian beetroot gnocchi were sophisticated and scrumptious, with a fantastic dressing for the generous salad. Plus, the service was top-notch and the location was great. We would eat here more often if we weren't just here on vacation. P.S.: - €30-40 per person including drinks and a large glass of water. - Only two vegetarian dishes on the menu, but at least one of them was delicious.

We spontaneously decided to have lunch one weekday. We were pleasantly surprised. Everything was delicious and freshly prepared. The service was very friendly and attentive. We'd gladly come again.

We had reserved a table for a group of seven. It was beautifully set in the club room. After ordering, the food arrived promptly and for everyone at the same time – whether vegetarian, fish, or meat. Everyone was very satisfied with the quality. The price-performance ratio was excellent. The service was attentive and unobtrusive, even though we were there for a good three hours. We would gladly return if we are ever in the area again!

I really enjoyed the ambiance, but unfortunately, the food didn't measure up. We had the "Medenschmaus" (Meden dish): fried herring, salmon, and matjes (spiced herring) with fried potatoes and scrambled eggs. I was expecting a piece of fried salmon, not smoked salmon (this should be more clearly stated on the menu!). The fried potatoes were bland and very greasy. Overall, we were disappointed with the food. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and the long wait for the food was unclear to us. Unfortunately, even after we informed the waiter that we wanted to pay, we had to wait a very long time for the bill. There's not much room for improvement in any area, especially with the prices.

We visited "in de Grund" shortly after it opened, and it was a disaster. But that's changed completely. Very tasty food and friendly service at fair prices. I'd gladly go back.

We were there at the end of our vacation, and it was my husband's birthday. The beautiful table decorations and the excellent food were truly wonderful. Our two dogs also felt very comfortable. The service was very attentive and friendly. We would love to come back.🥰

Very good, small fish restaurant with pleasant ambience

We were thrilled. There was absolutely nothing to criticize! The ambiance (especially outside on the terrace), the service, and above all, the food were simply excellent. There's really nothing more to say. The selection is homely and simple, but the quality is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for the lovely evening!

The food is delicious. Everything is freshly prepared. The service could be improved. Very friendly, but basic service skills are lacking; wine glasses are touched from above, through the opening. The food is placed 20 cm away from you, with the hope that the plate will find its way to the middle of the placemat, to the guest. There is no non-alcoholic beer, but there is for the table next to you. Schnapps is not cold, only warm. A little training for the staff would have been appropriate. We will still come back because the food was very good. The service was very friendly. This may be a complaint or a suggestion at a high level, but it is nevertheless important feedback for the owners.

We recently went there for lunch with eight people. The food was exceptionally delicious. The menu was good, not overly extensive, and there was something for every taste. The service was very friendly and attentive. The wait time was reasonable. We highly recommend it. Water for our dog was delivered without being asked. Reservations are recommended on weekends.

The food wasn't that great. The fried potatoes were very greasy. We had to wait a long time for the second drink. It could be better.

We were there in August 2022. It was great :) We'll be back this October. Then again in 2023 and 2024. And everything was great ♡ The fish platter was amazing... everything was top-notch. Then again this year... We were really looking forward to it. But unfortunately... the fish platter... there was no salmon on it like usual, and it says so on the menu. No side salad anymore. The other people's food wasn't that great either. Our child's Fanta tasted musty... really old... What a shame. The service was friendly, as always. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back for a while... we were too disappointed.

We were recommended this restaurant by a local and were not disappointed. The fish (we had the fish platter, the plaice platter, and the Medem platter) was excellent. The only thing we didn't like were the fries, and there were actually way too many of them for a small children's portion 😅 Another minor criticism was the wait time. We were the first customers in the restaurant and had to wait 50 minutes for our food, but the restaurant quickly filled up, so much so that some customers were turned away.

Eine Riesenenttäuschung, für die wir als Entschuldigung eigentlich nur den Zeitpunkt des Besuches, nämlich scheinbar ausserhalb einer Saison gelten lassen würden. Also, nach dem Betreten des sehr schönen und gemütlichen Gastraumes wurden uns die sehr bescheidenen Speisekarten gereicht, dazu als weiterer Hinweis eine Aufzählung von Gerichten aus der Karte, die leider aus waren und dann nur noch wenig Alternativen zuliessen. Nachdem wir dann doch noch notgedrungen fündig geworden waren, kam die Bedienung ca. 10 Minuten nach der Bestellung wieder an den Tisch um uns mitzuteilen, daß das bestellte Gericht leider ebenfalls aus war. Mir wurde dann als besonderes Highlight gebratenes Fischfilet mit selbstgemachtem Kartoffelsalat ohne Preisangabe angboten, was dann auch genauso als Fisch und Salat lieblos angerichtet an den Tisch kam. Der Fisch, zwar auf den Punkt gegart, aber leider im Fett schwimmend, so daß die anfangs knusprige Panade nach wenigen Minuten nur noch als undefinierbare Pampe auf dem Teller schwamm. Der Kartoffelsalat, leider noch halbroh, reklamiert, jedoch die Reklamation mit dem Hinweis, daß es sich um festkochende Kartoffeln handelt, die von Natur aus halbroh sind, abgelehnt. Das Hähnchenbrustfilet meiner Frau dafür total übergart und strohtrocken, nach der Hälfte nicht mehr essbar. Reklamationen wurde mit einem leisen, "tut uns leid" abgetan. Der Schock dann beim bezahlen, denn der "Imbiss mit 2 kleinen Fischfilet und halbrohem Kartoffelsalat" wurde mit € 22,.-- abgerechnet. So etwas nie wieder, dann fahren wir lieber die wenigen Kilometer nach Cuxhaven. Einziger Lichtblick, die sichtlich überforderte allein im Gastraum anwesende Bedienung, die sich sehr höflich große Mühe gab.

Sehr gemütliches Restaurant mit zivilen Preisen und leckeren Essen. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder und werden es weiter empfehlen.

Excellent food. Excellent service. My family and I had just finished a long day of travel/touring when we walked into in de Grund. The staff had clearly just finished cleaning up for the evening, and they took us in anyway. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the stand outs were the mushroom soup and the pork dinner.

We had reserved very early and had a very nice evening. The service is very attentive, even when you changed your order, you could handle it with a smile. Of course she was alone, but she did so with a calmness that I really appreciate. The food was very good. Only at Labskaus could a fish fillet be more. Tasted great. The restaurant has a great ambience and as a chef I can happily recommend it. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Otterndorf... of course also to this restaurant. I wish the owner continued success and perhaps some support on good days in service... I know about the problems in the catering industry.😪

A very nice restaurant with a great ambience. The menu is varied and always includes seasonal dishes. The service person was very nice and courteous, even though she was alone in the full restaurant. Our meals were all very different but all very tasty. We will definitely come back when we are nearby.

We had a delicious meal of smelt last night. We didn't know it before and found it really tasty. Whether it's fish, fried potatoes or cucumber salad, it's really delicious! The atmosphere is also really nice and the service was great! Reasonable waiting time and very friendly. When we are in the area again we will definitely come back 😊

The restaurant is very nicely set up, the only waitress that evening was very friendly and tried to process the guests well and quickly. To the negative points, we ordered a steak that was supposed to be well done, but it wasn't, the steak only tasted like water, the mushroom sauce tasted old and the mushrooms were like rubber, the steak smelled musty, the fried potatoes with it were lukewarm and wobbly, the herb butter was rock hard and tasted strange. The schnitzel we also had was partly not fully cooked and the fries were still raw in the middle and not salted. You had to ask for ketchup and mayo and they weren't offered. The Aperol that was ordered with it was so diluted that you couldn't taste it, it just tasted like ice cubes and water and the orange was missing. Instead of a normal 0.4l Coke you get a light Coke and a 0.2l plus a small bottle extra and no ice cubes even though it was ordered. Regarding the staff, the waitress was super nice and did her best, she was the only waitress in the restaurant, she was totally overwhelmed trying to close all the tables at the same time, and then you also hear that the boss doesn't like going to the tables and prefers to just do the counter work. In addition, you were insulted by the boss herself after you asked for a reasonable receipt with the words “you can say something like that from the start.” Will you then be treated better? She also yells at the waitress in front of the customers if she didn't know which table that was and what they were doing was simply a bad habit of portraying his employee like that. You can only feel sorry for this woman. Disrespectful towards the customer, you are addressed as he or you, it still means you.

We were in Otterndorf for a week over New Year's Eve and ate here 4 times. I think that says it all. Great kitchen. Friendly service. Attractive atmosphere and clean and modern toilets.

This place still has to earn the name GAST-STÄTTE. Reason: I wanted to have a coffee and a beer with my wife in “de Grund” this afternoon. First we stood in the entrance unnoticed for a long time because something wasn't working with the cash register. When we were finally noticed, I told the lady our wish. However, the unfriendly lady at the entrance told me that, even though there were still several tables available, she no longer had a table for us. I then asked the lady politely if I could quickly go to the toilet. The lady told me that I wasn't allowed to use the toilet. She also said what I would say if people at my house rang the bell to go to the toilet. With this information, every thinking person should consider whether such a company should be supported with their visit. I would have given 0 stars if there was such a rating.

Despite a telephone reservation made 4 days in advance, there was no table available. There wasn't even an attempt to find an adequate solution. We were sent away with the statement: That's the way it is now, there's nothing we can do about it... I have never experienced such bad service. But it was a good one. We then found a restaurant where the service was excellent.

I always enjoy coming here. There are delicious, regionally typical fish dishes. The staff is very friendly. In the summer months you should definitely make a reservation as the restaurant on the Medem is very popular.

The food was ok 👌 the ambience was very nice, unfortunately we waited a very long time for our order, a little over 1 hour, which wasn't that nice. Only when we asked if they had forgotten us were we told they had a lot to do, well 1 hour is ambitious in my opinion. We were then offered something on the house, which I found to be very nice.

Solid food with very nice and attentive service in a nice location. Unfortunately, the lady in service was all alone, which led to slightly longer waiting times. The lady can't do anything about it - she really made the best effort - but for the guest it still means waiting time and is therefore mentioned here.

We were there last night and I was very disappointed. The food was okay, but unfortunately a bit expensive. However, service was the biggest problem. Changes to the dishes were not possible at all (for example replacing fries with fried potatoes). If you want a small dessert, you will also be disappointed here. There is a small portion, but only children can order it. Even our suggestion to order the small portion at the large price was rejected. Instead, you should take the large portion and leave half of it. It was possible to pack, but there was only one piece of aluminum foil and you had to pack it yourself. Given the reviews, ambience and prices, I would have liked more for a lovely evening.

If you're a vacationer and want to go out for a mediocre meal that's way too expensive, you've come to the right place. Flexibility is not given, food is not adaptable. Unfortunately also very disappointed with the service. Absolutely unsuitable for vegetarians/vegans.

Very nice location right on the water. The interior is also very attractive (although the decorations from the last party have not yet been removed). However, we were disappointed with the service. At first there was a bit of a mix-up with our drink order - so far it wasn't dramatic - drinks can be brought quickly. However, the lady explained this by saying that working with new colleagues would not be so easy. However, she had prepared the drinks herself before our eyes. Unfortunately, there was another problem with our food order. The female employee also recorded these. Parts of two dishes were missing. The very committed young colleague brought this to us immediately when we asked and apologized several times. However, one dish was completely missing. Very annoying, even if a side salad was brought after a bit of a wait. Finally the last dish came - and everything tasted very good. What really surprised us that evening, however, was that shortly afterwards the employee asked her younger colleague to call it a day because the collaboration wasn't working. To be honest, we were very surprised because, in our opinion, he was very friendly and attentive and “ironed out” his colleague's mistakes. Later she mentioned several times (at different tables) how difficult the collaboration had been (because it was unusual). In our opinion, the problem that evening was not based on this fact.

Unfortunately, we can't report anything positive at all, according to their website, warm food is served until 8:30 p.m. and at 7:45 p.m. we are informed that the kitchen is already closed and there is only enough left for baked potatoes or currywurst. So that's really no customer service anymore, which is a shame. And that where opening times are until 10 p.m., holidays and weekends.

Very good location on a river. But outside there were old plastic tables without tablecloths. The food was tasty. But it was only served with inexpensive ingredients. But a high price is charged for this.

We had pre-ordered Stint and were really excited. Best quality, senior plates possible, very fast service and elegant ambience.

We celebrated Dad's 89th birthday there and we are thrilled with the ambience, food and friendliness. Matjes and zander fillet are highly recommended. Pork fillet with fried potatoes and princess beans were also very tasty. We'll be back.👍

Nice, pretty restaurant with a good selection of (regional) fish and meat. We had requests for changes to the supplements, which were happily fulfilled at no extra charge. The service employee was courteous and answered our questions about the dishes competently and friendly.
