Ahoi Steffen Henssler Otterndorf in Otterndorf

Yesterday, October 13th, 2024, we were in the Ahoi Otterndorf, a question: why is the menu getting smaller and smaller (no salmon or tuna anymore, except in bowls; there are no tuna burgers anymore; chicken burgers, no more aioli and no avocado, only as cream), the portions are also getting smaller and smaller. However, prices continue to rise, inflation is actually falling... House soda 0.4l for 6.20 €...., I sincerely hope that this is a misprint that will be corrected...!! In addition, the staff is clearly more friendly and attentive!!! lost. And no, this is not due to the change in personnel. We have known most of them for years. We ate there twice every holiday. This week it will stay at one time, and most likely not at all on the next vacation! The point has slowly passed that we no longer want to afford it, even though we can! It's a shame, the location is great and actually it must be a "money printing machine", but for that the operators would have to think again and listen to the customers!

The food is good but basically just an upscale snack bar. Special combination of ingredients that enhance simple things.

Ultimately nothing more than a better snack. Weak, tight modular menu, significantly thinned out compared to the last visit, special and delicious dishes are now missing. Special components selected for the basic version were only added in disappointingly small quantities. Food too cold, tasty, but not complete and taste no better than good average. Table service was friendly, very child-friendly, supplied missing food components upon request, staff otherwise seemed uninterested. Guest room not very comfortable, very mediocre atmosphere, living conditions not inviting.

We were at Ahoi at 5:45 p.m., four adults and three children. "If we get there early we won't have to wait long" was our thought - the children would be happy. Placing the table (why was the table only put together when we were there?) and taking the order went quite quickly. Then the long wait began, even though there were only about 20 guests in the restaurant at the time. We waited until 6:45 p.m., almost an hour, for a currywurst, 2 burgers, 2 children's schnitzels with fries and a fish & chips. It's not just children who don't like that. The food came and the quality of the burgers and fries was great. The schnitzels were too small even for children and the fried fish had a large hole in the breading. This has the following effect: the breading protects the fish. If there is a hole in it, the frying fat flows into the casing and destroys the fish. That can certainly happen, but we were at Ahoi by Steffen Henssler. I've been in the hotel industry for over 25 years and am not squeamish - but as a chef I wouldn't say something like that. And as a waiter I would refuse to bring it out. Why didn't I complain immediately? I wanted to eat with our guests, especially since the food wasn't particularly hot. How much longer would we have to wait? When I pointed out that this was disappointing, all I got was "oh, yes, I'm sorry about that" A few meters further along the dike in Otterndorf there are snack bars that offer great, honest quality. For a third of the price.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. I still knew the house as “Elbterrassen” over 50 years ago and then suddenly there is a Henßler franchise store in there. At first you expect expensive food of reasonable quantity and quality. Looking at the menu didn't promise fancy food at reasonable prices and that was it. Quite original and in the truest sense of the word "inexpensive", which doesn't mean cheap. But it doesn't have to be. Quality can also cost something. Unfortunately there weren't many tables with a view of the Elbe (due to the design) and I found the chairs to be quite uncomfortable. That's why "only" 4 stars for the ambience. The service could have been more attentive. For example, I had already been sitting with an empty plate for 15 minutes. But that may also have something to do with the fact that there were quite a lot of guests there for an ugly October day and the waitresses were really busy. If you want to walk to the campsite or mobile home site in the evening, you unfortunately have to do so in the dark. You're probably just geared towards drivers. However, the restaurant can't do anything about it. All in all, a very pleasant and tasty evening and therefore full marks overall.

I was always really excited, I always ate a bowl, it was delicious. Yesterday fried fish with chili fries. I didn't like the fried fish at all. Breading was tough and the fish was in a watery sauce? Unfortunately I didn't like it.

We discovered “Ahoy” quite by chance. The staff was very attentive, honest and kind. Honestly, because the terrace wasn't prepared after days of bad weather, but we were still offered a place in the sun, which was now shining again. The location of the “Ahoi” is perfect. Nestled in nature with a view of the ships passing by! The coffee was delicious and the churros were crispy! Recommendation! 👌🏻

Ate there today in wonderful sunshine. Even though the restaurant was moderately busy, we waited 15 minutes for the waiter to come. Well, we have time and vacation. The waiter was anything but friendly, which other guests also complained about. The food was lukewarm towards cold. Eat some lukewarm fries. When paying, I greeted the kitchen, “warm food tastes better,” and the nice waiter said I could do that myself. That's it, we're not going there anymore.

The food: fish & chips was mediocre. Lots of good fries, 2 tasteless fish fillets. The service was friendly, but the obvious "you culture" is not my thing. The name “Henssler” is the only special thing about the restaurant.

Delicious food, nice staff, gladly again!

We were warmly welcomed by a nice female waiter at 5:30 p.m. Our order was taken and the starter and main course were delivered very quickly. So far everything is very good. Up to this point I would have given 5 stars for the delicious food and ambience. A larger group has now arrived and more guests. It's not a problem that you have to wait a little longer. But we were no longer served at all, let alone noticed. And when I tried to make eye contact with one of the male waitresses (responsible for ordering and cashing), she either failed or quickly looked in another direction or even glanced slightly in our direction but didn't respond. We would have liked to have ordered dessert. This was probably not desired. After 45 minutes we also tried to pay several times and even managed to speak to the waitress once when he quickly ran past us again. We sat directly across from the bar, which is where everyone was always walking. I feel like my idea of ​​service is no longer common these days. I thought you would also be asked if everything is OK or if you would like to order something else. That wasn't the case. And no, it wasn't so busy that you couldn't do that in passing. If we had been asked when paying if everything was OK, I would have already said that I was disappointed with the service.

Dined there shortly after it opened on Saturday. The food was really good, but the name is included in the price. It's a shame that it was extremely dirty inside. Crumbs everywhere on the floor and on the chairs. Dirt on the windowsill etc.

We just wanted to spontaneously eat something at Henssler and took a seat on the outdoor terrace after asking a friendly waiter whether we could choose a seat outside ourselves. Then we waited…and waited and waited. Another waiter walked past us at least 5 times. Twice also with menus collected from other guests, which he could have easily left to us. Well, we helped ourselves and looked for the menu online. Bad network, WiFi only with code. After an eternity of loading time, we had already decided on drinks and food before anyone even came to our table. It stays that way. Wait again. Finally we decided to leave. Processes need to be significantly optimized and the team trained. Update: today (September 21st) we started a new attempt and then on a Saturday evening in the best weather you find yourself standing in front of a sign “Today only with reservation”. They didn't even want to offer us a drink on the almost empty outdoor terrace. Sad!

Liebe Besseresser. Ein Besuch im Ahoi lohnt sich in jedem Fall....allein für die Aussicht, für das leckere Essen sowieso (ich empfehle den Teriyaki Burger....köstlich) und als Nachtisch eine Portion Churros mit Eis. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich und uns bleiben die Besuche dort auf jeden Fall in super schöner Erinnerung. Also, macht Euch auf zum Ahoi......

Location and food absolutely top! During a family visit we were served by a charming young man with tattoos who clearly enjoyed his job and kept us entertained throughout the evening. Nice ambience right on the water and very tasteful cuisine. This is what is needed in the catering industry! You'll be happy to come back :)

Es war wie erwartet: das Essen sehr lecker, die Bedienung sehr aufmerksam. Da es ziemlich leer war, kam das Essen sehr schnell. Preis/Leistung bekommt 100% Daumen hoch. Es gibt halt kein Chichi, weder bei den Gerichten, noch bei der Einrichtung. Das Wohlfühlen kommt mit der tollen Aussicht und der tollen Bedienung. Wir kommen gerne wieder

Wir saßen mit tollem Blick auf den kleinen Hafen mit bestem Service von Hannah 🫶 und haben superlecker gegessen. Fish‘n Ships und Shrimps‘n Ships im Henssler Style waren genau das Richtige nach unsrer Tour. Macht weiter so, wir kommen wieder.

We had reserved for 7 people plus baby and dog. We were welcomed very openly by the waiter. He was generally very relaxed and picked us up well. Service top 👍🏻 The map is manageable, but sufficiently large. There is something for everyone. We ordered all sorts of drinks: beer, Aperol, homemade lemonade (very tasty) We ordered edamame as a starter, with a good portion size. Nicely salty seasoned. For the main course we had bowl, fish'n'chips and veggie burger. The portion sizes were generous, so you felt full. The A1 fries particularly stood out! Even the basic version is already perfectly fried and seasoned. You don't need any additional sauce. The fish also came with two large pieces (presumably frozen as they looked too even). But the taste is very good. The veggie burgers were good, but nothing more. Unfortunately the zucchini patty was a bit bland. You can certainly create a better one here. For dessert we had churros and also the chocolate cake. In two out of three tarts the core was no longer liquid, although this was not mentioned on the menu. But somehow you (wrongly) expected it. Still tasted very good. We finally had a really great evening with you! Thank you very much 👏🏻👏🏻

There is something for everyone, friendly staff

Mit großer Vorfreude besuchten wir zu sechs das Ahoi. Wir hatten reserviert und bekamen einen schönen Tisch mit sehr unbequemen Stühlen. Der Service stellte uns beide bestellten Weinflaschen auf den Tisch und fragte ob wir uns selbst bedienen können. Das taten wir dann. Von den bestellten Gerichten kamen dann leider nur fünf und wir mußten zweimal nachfragen wann denn das fehlende Gericht kommt. Die Gerichte waren sehr einfach und konnten uns nicht begeistern.

Unfortunately, I don't understand the good reviews at all. I didn't like it, nor did I like the location, let alone the service. I found the sign right at the entrance very "cool" telling me that if you hadn't made a reservation for "inside" you shouldn't ask for a free table. Finally: as Rhinelanders, we know many places on the Dutch North Sea... Otterndorf and the surrounding area could have a clear lesson here - and not just in terms of cuisine.

From cold food to forgetting food, wrong dips and then discussion that there is only one kind. I don't like tartar sauce and had ordered the chilli mayo - but the waitress refused to bring it to me and argued that there was only tartar sauce. My husband then gave me his chilli mayo. It wasn't possible to reorder drinks even though there weren't many guests there. Online reservations will not be implemented. You can specify special occasions - no one is interested. That was different. It's a shame because we would like to go out for a delicious meal here in Otterndorf and we love the combination with chilli and coriander.

We were there last night. The ambience is really great. At the marina with a view of the Elbe. The food was good, but if you serve fish and chips like that to an English person, he's likely to go home. That was more like frozen fried fish with fries. Lots of batter, little fish, but still tastes good. Service was very attentive and friendly. Some tables were already dirty and hadn't been cleaned. It was well attended, but...... Nice restaurant, food good, I think we will come back.

Actually perfect. Perfect view, atmosphere... just a small deduction for too much parinade. I ate fish and chips, that's how hot I think it was. Portions are generous, you will definitely be there. French fries were super tasty and can be refined with a sause 👌🏼. However, prawns were "dead breaded"...I had wished for a slightly lighter parinade. But that's just my taste and minimal criticism. Das Ahoi punktet in erster Linie durch seine Lage, die wirklich traumhaft ist. Von der Terrasse hat man einen wunderschönen Blick auf das Deichvorland, den kleinen Yachthafen und die Elbe. Da kommt selbst bei Einheimischen aus der Umgebung wie in unserem Fall leicht Urlaubsstimmung auf. Das Essen kann man nicht unbedingt als kulinarisches Highlight bezeichnen, ist aber ordentlich zubereitet, reichlich und lecker. Ausnahme Ponzu-Butter: Die schmeckt wirklich göttlich! Die Preisgestaltung empfinden wir als angemessen. Der Service ist ausnahmslos sehr freundlich, wenn auch nicht immer präsent. Eine vollbesetzte Terrasse dieser Größe mit zwei Personen zu "rocken", ist aber auch eine echte Herausforderung. Wenn hier teils von unfreundlichem Personal die Rede ist, braucht man sich beim Benehmen einiger Gäste aber auch überhaupt nicht wundern, wenn der Service sich hier zur Wehr setzt und das Lächeln dann eben deutlich sparsamer ausfällt! Richtig so! Innen würde es uns nicht gefallen, da zu nüchtern und zu vollgestellt mit Tischen; erinnert eher an eine Firmenkantine. Insgesamt könnte das Gebäude und die Terrasse eine Frischzellenkur vertragen, auf der anderen Seite hat es aber auch wettertechnich in der Lage einiges auszuhalten. Für uns ein wunderbarer Ort zum Entspannen und zum kurzen Ausbrechen aus dem Alltag. Im Sommer sind wir hier sehr gerne zu Gast!

I have always enjoyed being a guest at this restaurant in the past and have often and happily recommended it to others. Unfortunately, my visit yesterday was a bitter disappointment. Despite having an existing reservation, we were asked to leave our table because the waiter had "personally" reserved it for another group. All the tables outside were occupied, which is why we had to move inside the restaurant. Since this treatment didn't make us feel welcome at all, we finally decided to leave the restaurant. Another waitress who looked after us was very courteous and visibly surprised by her colleague's behavior. She explained to us that the seats outside cannot generally be reserved. We were very disappointed by this discrepancy and the way we were treated. I really hope that in the future the restaurant returns to the excellent service that I have so appreciated in the past. It would be a shame if it lost its good reputation because of such incidents.

Alle Tische draußen waren belegt, weshalb wir ins Innere des Restaurants ausweichen mussten. Da wir uns durch diese Behandlung überhaupt nicht willkommen fühlten, entschieden wir uns schließlich, das Restaurant zu verlassen. Eine andere Kellnerin, die uns dann betreute, war zwar sehr zuvorkommend und sichtlich verwundert über das Verhalten ihres Kollegen. Sie erklärte uns, dass die Sitzplätze draußen grundsätzlich nicht reserviert werden können. Diese Unstimmigkeit und die Art und Weise, wie wir behandelt wurden, hat uns sehr enttäuscht. Ich hoffe sehr, dass das Restaurant sich in Zukunft wieder auf den hervorragenden Service besinnt, den ich in der Vergangenheit so geschätzt habe. Es wäre schade, wenn es durch solche Vorfälle seinen guten Ruf verliert.

I've had better burgers, the "Henssler Fritten" are highly praised... Tasty, yes, but only fries with a bit of toppings. The drinks came before the meal - in a restaurant with that name (and in any other) this should actually work. Especially since it was very hot, we sat on the terrace and waited eagerly for the drinks. There is certainly potential for improvement... There was something for the kids to paint...

The food overall was okay. I had a Chrunchy Chicken Burger and my partner had the Teriyaki Beef Burger. Based on the name I probably expected more and then was disappointed that it wasn't anything special for the price. After ordering, the food came very quickly. But then we weren't served for almost three quarters of an hour. The waiter walked past us at least 5 times and served others. Unfortunately we couldn't make eye contact, he just didn't look over at us. By chance another waitress came by and we then approached her to order dessert. The dessert was very tasty. We both tried out which ones were available. Churros and chocolate cakes. The restaurant is well decorated. Unfortunately, the toilets weren't that well maintained. Too bad.

7:45 p.m. Table reserved, was not taken into account because “free choice of seating” (not that easy for 4 people including 2 dogs…) At 8:30 p.m. the drinks arrived (at 28 degrees outside temperature!) Food came 10 minutes later, nothing to complain about here, it was very tasty and sufficient. However, we didn't feel comfortable enough in the area to go again.

Wir haben das Ahoi gewählt weil es am Wasser liegt und wir neugierig waren wegen dem Namen Steffen Henssler. Es war ein schöner Nachmittag mit gutem Essen. Leider lässt sich der Steffen hier nicht sehen. Aber das macht nichts bei der netten Bedienung. Wir kommen wieder.

We were served by Norman and I have to honestly say that I have never experienced anything like this. “The guest is king” is very important here. Without being pushy, Norman was incredibly friendly and accommodating! This waiter deserves a raise!! Really wow!

The beautiful location of the restaurant and view do not match the atmosphere inside. The menu is very limited. - If you don't mind the waiter's flippant comments and his thumb on the edge of the plate in threatening proximity to the lukewarm dish, everything is pretty much O.K.

Great location, nice staff. But minimal use of goods with maximum profit. For the price, the schnitzel is too thin, too much breading, and the meat is too thin. Was that even meat? Any snack bar can do that just as well

Wow, what a great restaurant. The location on the beach, where you can quickly get from the beach chair and still not miss any ships coming or going. The service is super friendly and given the rush, that's saying something. The food came quickly, was well prepared and tasted fantastic. That's why a full 5 ⭐️We'll definitely be back!

Always a highlight! Watch the big pots on the Elbe during an aperitif on the terrace, then enjoy a sensational tuna sashimi... And the fries are always first-class. The service team is relaxed and attentive - it's only a little loud in the dining room when it's full...

Delicious food, good portions and super friendly staff.

The food is super tasty, the service is also very good. Unfortunately, on our last visit we noticed that the menu had become slimmer. Prices have also been increased. We understand the increase in prices. Wages and additional costs are rising. However, the portions were also reduced at the same time. As a result, I didn't feel full when I enjoyed a bowl. I mean, the sushi rice doesn't cost that much. Then you could have added a little more of it. Due to the double price increase there are now only 3 stars. It's a shame, we were happy to use the restaurant as a place to visit when we visited the sauna in Otterndorf. That's all sorted out for now, because you want to be full if you're a couple and spend almost €60 there with drinks. With a starter and dessert you can easily lose €100. That's just too much.

You have to go here just because of the location. The food is just as wonderfully varied, creative and very tasty. The price-performance ratio is such that I would give it full marks. The employees, even when they want to get off work, are very relaxed, very friendly, very accommodating and always have a wonderful smile on their faces. Thank you very much for your hospitality

Fish n chips was good. Likewise the tuna appetizer. The veggie burger was terrible. According to the online platform, the restaurant was fully booked but hardly occupied. The price-performance ratio is not right. For the same money you can eat better somewhere else.

That was the most expensive bad tearki burger I've ever eaten. The patty was as thin as from the supermarket and dry as the sole of a shoe, for the in-house fries lol [ok, they were good] It's cheeky to pay 6.5 euros extra for a little spice and a dollop of sauce. Mayo etc 1 euro well short and good just because of the name no thanks, you can eat better in Otterndorf for the money.

The location is great, the ravages of time are already gnawing at the building and the toilets are extremely small. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The food is at best “snack level”. Shrimp consists almost entirely of thick breading, as does the fish from “Fish N Chips”. The actual taste is therefore “dead” and, apart from that, unhealthy. The prices are clearly too high for the quality delivered, others can do it better. It's no wonder that this concept doesn't work.

Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert, welcher leider vor unserer nase weggeschnappt wurde. Es fehlte das Reserviert Schild... Aber es ergab sich trotzdem ein toller Platz außen, bei tollem Wetter, Sonnenuntergang und vorbeiziehenden Gewittern. Essen sehr gut. Service topp, Preise angemessen
