Hotel-Gasthof Goldener Greifen in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Wir waren ausschließlich im Restaurant essen und haben nicht im Gasthof übernachtet. Der süße Biergarten im Hinterhof hat uns sofort gefallen und sorgt für eine sehr gemütliche Atmosphäre. Das Essen war hervorragend, und der Service war aufmerksam, freundlich und herzlich. Besonders das Fleisch hat uns begeistert – so zart, saftig und lecker habe ich es selten gegessen. Insgesamt ein rundum gelungener Restaurantbesuch, den wir gerne weiterempfehlen! 😊🍽️🌿

Das Restaurant öffnet früher als andere und bietet die köstlichsten Gerichte. Wir genossen traditionelle Würstchen, Schnitzel und das absolute Muss: Gulasch mit Knödeln (das Fleisch zergeht auf der Zunge), und zusammen mit einem dunklen Bier einfach himmlisch! Der Service im Restaurant ist erstklassig!

Lage: Bitte beachten Sie, dass die meisten Hotels im Zentrum 10 bis 15 Gehminuten vom Bahnhof entfernt liegen. Das Hotel Gasthof befindet sich direkt am Marktplatz und am Rathausturm. Eine großartige, zentrale Lage, um die Stadt zu erkunden. Zimmer: Dieses authentische Zimmer aus dem 14. Jahrhundert wurde modernisiert, ohne seinen Charme zu verlieren. Das Hotel wird seit fünf Generationen von derselben Familie geführt. Bitte beachten Sie, dass es keinen Aufzug und keine Klimaanlage gibt, dafür aber große Fenster. Personal: Freundlich, die meisten Mitarbeiter sprechen etwas Englisch. Bitte beachten Sie, dass Sie in der Nebensaison die Check-in-Zeit vorab erfragen sollten. Frühstück: Es gab einen der größten Brotkörbe, die ich je für einen einzelnen Tisch gesehen habe, und eine reichhaltige Auswahl an Wurst- und Käsespezialitäten. Eier nach Wunsch waren inklusive.

Restaurant auch mittags offen, Chefschnitzel, Knödel und Sauerkraut hervorragend // Schäufele und Käsespätzle waren gut. Es wurde individuell auf Wünsche eingegangen, und haben spontan einen Platz gefunden. Nettes Personal und angenehme Location. Gerne wieder.

Sehr schönes und authentisches Restaurant mit gemütlichem Garten. Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker, der Service super und das Personal total freundlich.

Wir waren zum Essen in der wunderschönen Gartenwirtschaft. Das Personal ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend, die Speisekarte hat eine Auswahl an gutbürgerlichen Spezialitäten und auch ein gutes vegetarisches Angebot. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Beim vorbei laufen konnte ich einen Blick in die blitzblanke Küche werfen, was bestätigt, dass man dieses Restaurant auf jeden Fall weiter empfehlen kann.

Wir sind an 2 Abenden zum Essen eingekehrt. Der Service war super nett und aufmerksam, die Terrasse gemütlich und die Gerichte waren sehr gut. Wir hatten den Klassiker Schäufele (super krosse Schwarte und das Fleisch zart), Schweinerollbraten sowie Zwetschgen-Crumble. Wir können es empfehlen und kommen gerne wieder.

Die Nacht war grauenhaft. Ich war auf der Durchreise weshalb ich auf genügend Schlaf angewiesen war. Die Heizung machte die ganze Nacht laute Klack Geräusche welche mir den Schlaf komplett raubten. Zusätzlich dazu sieht es das Hotel nicht ein auf eine angemessene Art und Weise auf mich einzugehen und speist mich mit 10€ ab. Auf Nachfrage online über die Führung gab es keine Antwort. Diese Unterkunft besitzt nicht mal den Anstand mir zu antworten. Das Frühstück ist nicht gut.

Meine Frau und ich waren vor 30 Jahren mit unserer Tochter schon einmal hier und waren begeistert von der historischen Architektur, der ruhigen, zentralen Lage, dem Komfort und dem herzlichen Personal. Wir sind nun wieder für drei Nächte hier und das Hotel entspricht nach wie vor hohen deutschen Standards und ist mit seinen blitzsauberen und modernisierten Badezimmern sogar noch besser. Das Frühstück ist hervorragend und bietet jetzt auch frisch zubereitete Eier und Speck. Wir können keine bessere Unterkunft in Rothenburg – oder überhaupt – empfehlen. Es erfüllt alle Wünsche für ein authentisches bayerisches Gasthaus-Erlebnis.

Super gegessen, super service. Gerne wieder.

Wir haben hier vor dem Einchecken in unser nur 5 Minuten entferntes Hotel zu Mittag gegessen. Wir wurden sofort freundlich begrüßt und konnten an einem Samstagnachmittag vor Ostern Platz nehmen. Mein Sohn und ich teilten uns eine Kartoffelsuppe und eine Bratwurst. Ich bestellte ein Hefeweizen. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Geschichte spricht aus jedem Winkel, sehr stimmig eingerichtet. Schöner ruhiger Cafegarten im hinteren Bereich unter Bäumen.

Wir waren spontan Essen und waren gänzlich begeistert. Das Essen war hervorragend und üppig und der Service äußerst flink,nett und höflich. Wir kommen gerne wieder 👍

Ein hervorragendes Essen mitten in der Stadt. Ja, es ist touristisch, aber der Laden lässt sich nicht beheizen und das Essen war sehr lecker.

Wir sind auf einer kleinen Weltreise, um Lava-Cakes zu probieren. Hier ist unsere Bewertung von Lava-Cake Nummer 20, den wir hier gegessen haben: Datum: 02.08.2024 Bewertung (von 5): 1 Stern Leider war dieser Lava-Cake nicht gut. Er war innen fest und nicht einmal ansatzweise weich. :( Auch die winzige Sahnehaube und die kleinen Wassermelonen- und Ananasstücke konnten ihn nicht aufwerten…

Ein tolles Hotel mit ganz viel Charme. Ich war nur eine Nacht dort, aber könnte mir auch 2-3 übermachtungen vorstellen. Ich war im September 2025 dort. Sehr zentral, man kann auf dem Rathausplatz schauen und hat alles nah um sich herum. Rechte Seite ist ein Steiff Verkaufsladen und linker Seite ist eine Ballen Konditorei. Man kann sich morgens bei einem sehr guten Frühstück sowie abends bei einem sehr guten Abend essen vom netten Personal verwöhnen lassen. Ich werde auf jeden Fall wieder mal ein Zimmer reservieren :)

Ein ordentliches Hotel in einem sehr alten Gebäude ganz in der Nähe des Hauptplatzes. Das Zimmer war geräumig, komfortabel und sehr sauber. Das Frühstück war gut, es gab zwar kein Omelett, aber dafür frisch zubereitete Eier und Speck. Definitiv eine gute Wahl für einen ein- oder zweitägigen Aufenthalt in der Stadt. Es gibt Parkplätze, allerdings nicht besonders viele. Man muss durch die mittelalterliche Altstadt fahren, um dorthin zu gelangen, und sollte unbedingt der Wegbeschreibung in der E-Mail folgen. Vor dem Gebäude zu parken, ist nicht hilfreich.

Rezension für das Restaurant. Freundlicher und aufmerksamer Service. Solide Küche für fränkische Hausmannskost. Faire Preise. Uns hat es geschmeckt. Hier ist man handfeste Speisen wie Schäuferla, Klos mit Soße, Schweinebraten oder das Chefschnitzel.

Ein unglaubliches Hotel! Umgeben von Geschichte, ist es einfach atemberaubend! Ein Gebäude aus dem 14. Jahrhundert mit geschmackvoll eingerichteten, modernen Annehmlichkeiten. Ich finde es toll, wie viele Elemente des Gebäudes erhalten und sichtbar sind. Die Zimmer sind so geräumig, gemütlich und charmant. Das Personal ist so herzlich und der Hotelhund Fluffy ist einfach zuckersüß! Es liegt mitten im Herzen der Altstadt. Man muss nur vor die Tür gehen und schon ist man mittendrin! Nur eine Frage: Kann ich für immer hierbleiben?

Ich war mit Familie zum Essen dort. Das Essen wurde sehr schnell zubereitet und uns zu Tische gebracht, und hat allen sehr gut gefallen. Ich empfehle das Schäufele. Die Bedienung war höflich und humorvoll. Lg

Wir waren mittags im Pub und es war recht gut und preiswert. Die Kellner waren sehr freundlich. Es gab auch vegetarische Gerichte.

Ein feines Hotel direkt am Rathausplatz, also in der Altstadt von Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Das Doppelzimmer war sauber und gut ausgestattet mit recht neuen Matratzen. Das Bad war mit der begehbaren Dusche genau passend. Parkplätze gegen Zahlung im nachts abgeschlossenen Innenhof. Das Essen im Restaurant bzw. die Karte kann ich nur empfehlen. Nettes Personal Abends wie auch morgens. Beim Frühstück bleiben keine Wünsche offen.

Achtung Touristenabzocke! Achtung wer ganz schlecht Essen will ist hier richtig. Touristen Abzocke! Service sehr freundlich. So schlecht haben wir lange nicht gegessen ( Schäufele ) . Diese waren nicht frisch. Das positive daran, auf die Frage ob die Schäufele vom Vortag wären meinte der Kellner eigentlich von vorgestern. Wenigstens ehrlich. Auch wurde sofort ein Schnaps aufs Haus angeboten, haben wir abgelehnt. Schlechtes Essen mit einem Schnaps gut machen geht gar nicht!

Wir waren dort nur zum Essen. Service sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Meiner einen Begleitung hat die Kürbiscremesuppe leider nicht zugesagt, Geschmäcker sind verschieden, dennoch wurde seitens des Service eine alternative Suppe angeboten. Dies empfand ich als äußerst zuvorkommend. In gängigen Lokalitäten wäre das Ganze überwiegend mit einem "es tut mir leid" ohne weitere Alternativen abgetan. Daher mitunter 5*. Getränke und Essen war schnell da, trotz vollem Restaurant. Absolut gerne wieder!

Sehr zuvorkommend und kundenorientiert. Ich musste mein Zimmer leider stornieren, hier wurde mir trotz Kurzfristigkeit sehr entgegengekommen. Sehr zu empfehlen, sobald ich das nächste Mal wieder im Ort bin, werde ich neu buchen.

We went there for dinner. From the outside, I didn't find the restaurant very inviting. But I really liked the dining room. The service was excellent. Unfortunately, instead of a medium-rare rump steak, I received a completely overcooked, stringy mess. I simply couldn't eat it. BUT... I spoke to the waiter, and he responded brilliantly. Within a few minutes, I had a newly prepared portion with a wonderful steak. Still, it's a shame the chef sent the other one like that... We would definitely go there again.

We absolutely loved our short stay here. It is literally in the heart of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. We wish we could have spent several nights as the on-site restaurant was closed during our visit. Breakfast was included and available, which we thoroughly enjoyed! We learned about a currant preserve called johannisbeer which is frequently used in foods and liqueur in the region. We look forward to coming back to this 600+ year old gem when we visit again! The staff was excellent, very friendly and super accommodating.

We went there for lunch. Two people, two meals, two drinks. The food was delicious, and the value for money was amazing! Nice atmosphere, friendly service, no long wait, and the food was fresh! We'd love to come back again.

We went there for lunch. The food was truly delicious, and the service was very friendly. The breading on the chef's schnitzel was incredibly tasty and not your average meal.

I had the Chef's Schnitzel with fries, and that's exactly what it was, just one schnitzel with fries, and nothing more. It tasted good, but no matter, I wouldn't necessarily order it again.

A very small, cozy inn. Finding the way by car is both an art and an adventure. Delicious breakfast and a top location, right on the market square.

Last night, four of us spontaneously went to Greifen for dinner and were, to say the least, very disappointed. The ambiance in the beer garden was very nice, and the service friendly and prompt. But the food was very disappointing. Dumplings with sauce, with soggy dumplings and a sauce that was most likely a convenience product. The spaetzle were also good. The roast beef with onions was quite tough. The "Franconian beer meat in a strong, dark sauce" was a thick, gray mess of flour that only tasted of the bacon cubes floating around in it. Absolutely bland. The beef goulash that came with it was so marbled, and in places just lumps of fat, that it was inedible. I ended up eating only the mushy sauce. At first, I thought maybe it was just the regional cuisine and it was my fault, but after comparing several recipes and the offerings from other restaurants, I unfortunately have to say – it wasn't my fault! Plus points for the absolutely outstanding chef's schnitzel and the wonderful Marlene souflé. All in all, unfortunately, a tourist trap with overpriced convenience food. A real shame.

The atmosphere in the beer garden was great. The service was friendly and accommodating. Opinions about the food were mixed, from total enthusiasm to slight disappointment. The beer-style beef seemed to be full of lumps of fat, and the rich, dark gravy was rather light and, well, quite thick. The chef's schnitzel was excellent, and the onion roast beef was cooked to perfection, as requested. The dark "house beer" was very tasty.

Great hotel on transit. Location is not great, but service and rooms are good. Food is also quite well.

A truly beautiful and charming property: a traditional Bavarian house with wooden furnishings and an internal garden, with parking and, most importantly, on Rothenburg's main square. The restaurant serves excellent food, with a menu that naturally mirrors that of the beer garden. The room was a shame: it was too small and had a separate toilet from the shower and sink, not exactly comfortable under certain circumstances. But I managed to sleep well.

July 17, 2025 Strange place with strange staff. We entered, weren't greeted, even ignored, and were repeatedly not approached to order. The drinks arrived after a long time, quite a bit apart. What's so difficult about water (took 30 minutes) and beer (took 15 minutes)? We kept getting no menu, and were repeatedly told that "the water hadn't arrived yet"... so we decided to pay and leave. Of course, we didn't leave a tip. We still had to go inside for the bill. The water was probably just tap water. The water took a very long time, and we think it was quickly cooled in the freezer. Beautiful garden in the very scenic area of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Unfortunately, you also encounter these kinds of tourist traps. A shame, a real missed opportunity for a restaurant in a prime location, just outside the hustle and bustle of the historic city center. We recommend Frankenbruzzler's Blockhaus in nearby Creglingen. We did not stay here overnight, so can't say anything about the hotel.

Yes, I can only recommend this place. It's very homely and friendly, set in a beautiful historic building, quiet yet centrally located. Lovingly furnished rooms and a fantastic breakfast.

The food and service was terrible. The waiter was rude and never checked on us. We felt like an annoyance. The food was too salty. I wish we would have eaten somewhere else. Absolutely worst meal in Germany. Ate dinner.

The picturesque town is, of course, wonderful, and the hotel's location is truly fantastic. Finding the parking lot behind the hotel is a bit of a challenge, but the staff member on duty was very helpful. The room we booked was very spacious and clean. The only drawback was the frequent chiming of the church bells...

Delicious food and very dog friendly!

I can only say one thing about the restaurant: Nice service, very old-fashioned restaurant, unloving, greasy food! I had two "vegetable cakes" that looked like thick, fried croquettes, with a dollop of greasy "wild garlic curd" (wild garlic quark), rounded off with a small, very simple, and soggy salad. It was, quite honestly, beyond bad! Tourist trap!

A beautiful, quiet house. Good food and service. A nice touch: dogs are welcome. Location close to the historic market square. The access to the parking lot takes some getting used to. Recommended.

A great and central hotel The rooms are top-notch and extremely quiet. The generous breakfast is fantastic. Plentiful, and every wish is fulfilled. For example, the boiled egg is only cooked to order, so it doesn't sit on a buffet for ages. The entire team knows how to anticipate guests' wishes before they even speak them.

The service was great, but unfortunately the food wasn't that tasty. I had the beer goulash and my wife had the vegan rösti. The food wasn't fresh and tasted like ready-made food. What a shame.

Our stay was simply fantastic! Parking is available at the hotel. The receptionist was very nice, and the room was nice and clean. While the room has a medieval feel, in keeping with the building, the bathroom is modern. The breakfast is more than plentiful, fresh, and delicious. I highly recommend the hotel.

I haven't stayed there but had a meal in the restaurant. Food quality and taste were very bad and didn't worth the price. Also one of the waiters was very rude.

We were there on Whit Monday and enjoyed the wonderful festival.

We stopped there for lunch as part of a day trip. The service was friendly and the food was really good—nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, the final impression was significantly tarnished: When paying, we were practically cheated. Instead of the single glass we ordered, the bill suddenly included four glasses, or rather, an entire bottle. That leaves a very bitter aftertaste, and we certainly won't be coming back. It's a shame, because the food would have been enough for a positive review.

My review is about the restaurant. We've been going to the Greifen for several years when we're in Rothenburg. So far, we've always had good food. Unfortunately, that has changed; last Saturday it happened again. I ordered Franconian beer-style meat. Without the bacon cubes, it would have almost been a vegetarian dish. That's how you lose customers. It's worth mentioning that the service staff were all friendly and helpful!

Good food, friendly, humorous staff. However, they should also apologize briefly if someone forgets an order and then only delivers it after everyone else has already finished... ;-)

You can sit comfortably and enjoy a drink, but the small portion of salmon with lots of potatoes in a floury sauce was completely overpriced for the taste experience...

My conclusion: I would never go there again. I found the food bad and the prices too high. We went to the restaurant, and it was the worst restaurant experience we've ever had in our lives. The portions were tiny, and the prices were way too high. The liver dumpling soup was the worst I've ever eaten. The Schäuferle (pork shoulder) was dry, tiny, expensive, and didn't even come with any vegetables. The dumplings looked like they were convenience dumplings, but I don't know. The rest of the dishes were also below average. When we asked the waiter about it, they offered to bring us something else, but we had no interest in any more bad food. The waiter passed on our constructive feedback to the kitchen, and the chef complained loudly that what we were saying was nonsense and our dissatisfaction was unfounded. Unfortunately, his words were somewhat irritated. The most unpleasant thing was that we overheard everything. Because we were so hungry, we ate most of it, but also left some of it back and ate our fill elsewhere.

We went here for dinner and some beers on a warm and sunny May evening, we dined in the biergarten and it was very gemütlich. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. I had the Rinder Gulasch with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. My wife had an enormous Turkey schnitzel with spätzle. The server was very friendly, he made sure that we stayed hydrated. The hotel part looked cozy and we will give that a try next time.

The location couldn't be better. The staff is super friendly. The food is good. The drinks selection is excellent. The rooms are fine, but the beds could use some updating (they creak quite a bit). A guest refrigerator (for drinks) would also be desirable.

Last night I had the worst slice of apfelstrudel of my life, balanced by a good main course...so my 3 out of 3 stars rating.

- Good selection of dishes, also for vegetarians - I think the price/performance ratio of the dishes is okay - I would give it four stars - Location is also very good - Service was good, food arrived quickly - initially, I would have given it four stars. However, after the meal, the plates weren't cleared away for a long time, and those who wanted to order dessert couldn't do so due to time constraints. This can happen when it's busy, but some of the waiters were standing around chatting. I had to step forward and interrupt their conversation so they could pay. Then there was a bit of a temper tantrum because we wanted to pay separately. I would have understood that if it had been busy, but it wasn't. Hence, only 3 stars overall.

Had a lovely stay here, including one of the best breakfasts I have had at a hotel. The property is perfectly located right next to the beautiful market square, yet the rooms are very quiet. The hotel dog is also adorable!

Es gibt wenig zu kritisieren. Schöner Biergarten, kleine und übersichtliche Karte. Essen war gut, auch preislich in Ordnung für eine Touristenstadt. Nur die Kellner waren ein wenig unaufmerksam, leere Gläser und Teller wurden nicht abgeräumt.

Nice staff. We sat in the cozy beer garden. The scoop was good, the dumplings were ok (the incorporated herbs were very prominent). However, for the price you could expect a supplement.

On Monday evening we ended up in the golden griffin by chance. The friendly waiter gave us the last two free seats, all others were occupied or reserved. Ate the chef schnitzel and the pollack in dill sauce. You can't complain about the portion size or the taste. Both meals were very good. Simply decent Franconian cuisine. Side salad - each type was fresh and individually dressed - super good. Service staff very friendly and always with a laugh. The chef is how you imagine a German chef, huge, laughing and with a small tummy. Look into the kitchen - everything is sparkling clean and shiny. When we are back in Rothenburg, we will only eat at the Goldener Greif. Thanks for the nice evening.

As for the restaurant. Were initially ignored by the waitress, there were three of us in a full beer garden. Others who came quite a bit later were already eating when we got ours. I had Franconian beer meat, a kind of goulash. Spaetzle cold, meat tough, lukewarm and little to no seasoning. If I hadn't been so hungry we would have left. The waitress acknowledged the complaint without a face. 1 star is even too much. Never again!!!

We took a short break there and drank a very good beer. Very nice, friendly and cheerful staff. Nice, cozy beer garden. Prices absolutely appropriate. Highly recommended!

Own parking space in the rear area with the “old cellar” entrance Which is very advantageous if you are traveling in the city center. Nine euros per day fee. That's really fine. The rooms are quite nice and moderate. The breakfast was very good and the service is excellent. We felt very comfortable.

Siamo stati a cena in questo ristorante dopo aver letto le recensioni positive. Il cibo era assolutamente mediocre e il personale poco accogliente. Nonostante avessi prenotato con settimane di anticipo alle 19.30 abbiamo avuto il tempo di ordinare solo un piatto, visto che alle 20.30 siamo stati cacciati dal ristorante perché stava chiudendo, senza poter concludere la cena. Alla richiesta di poter ordinare il dolce ci è stato comunicato che la cucina era chiusa, nonostante non fosse necessario nessun tipo di preparazione. Consiglio al locale di non accettare prenotazioni se devono cacciare i clienti a metà cena. Ci siamo trovati male, e siamo stati trattati in maniera scortese. Non consiglio questo ristorante, ci sono locali che meritano di più.

Their breakfast is the most amazing part. They first bring tray of meats, cheese and bread. Coffee is served in a crafe. Then they ask how you want your eggs. Unbelievable!!! Rooms are very clean and modern. Bathroom is also very new! Can't say enough good things about this place.

Beautiful old building, modern clean rooms! Only the shower head should be replaced. Great central location and parking in the backyard. The food in the restaurant has something of a system gastronomy feel to it. Maybe “regional cuisine” for tourists, but okay for locals. Schnitzel breading is softened and the potato salad tastes like industrial goods. The onion roast was medium but a bit small. The sauce and spaetzle didn't seem homemade either, but they were of good quality. Even though we were hotel guests, a reservation was not possible. (Booking time: during Reitelesmarkt) However, we got a table around 5:45 p.m. Service was good and attentive.

Nice restaurant with delicious food (ham spaetzle with egg and a salad). Friendly staff. We had to wait (only) a few minutes for a table as it was very busy. The table was a bit drafty because it was right next to the entrance gate.

I love the beer garden in back, perfect for a rest , a beer or wine and light lunch- or a heavy lunch. Good dinner menus too. I have stayed here in the past. Very convenient

Nice restaurant at the hotel, next to the market square. Nice looking interior, cozy rooms. All this is in an old house, on the second floor in one of the rooms there is something like a mini-museum. The choice of food is not large, but there is a choice, mainly German cuisine. They cook slowly, but quite well. The waiters are friendly and efficient.

Today we visited the Hotel-Gasthof Goldener Greifen restaurant with my family (our opinion refers exclusively to the food, service and drinks). My husband ordered Schäufele, I ordered Wiener Schnitzel, and our 3-year-old son ordered Spätzle. The Schäufele was nothing special, the sauce had a good color, but the taste was bland. The herb was inedible and the bay leaf had not been removed! Any respectable chef does something like that! Such traditional restaurants should maintain the standard of their food. The schnitzel was a disaster to say the least! It was spoiled and fried in fat that was apparently also used to cook fish 🐟. I have an intolerance to fish! This is unacceptable to me! Please inform your guests in advance if you do something like this! Do you know that there are people who are allergic to fish? Our son only tried the spaetzle and then rejected it. We tried them too, but they were bland and overcooked. We reported the discrepancy and were offered a dessert of our choice as compensation if we wanted. However, we didn't want to wait any longer and left the restaurant. The service was somewhat OK, but the wait was way too long even though it was 2 p.m. All the tables around us had long since finished eating while we were still waiting... It was frustrating waiting for something that doesn't take long, especially when it's just a schnitzel that needs to be fried. The drinks were only served cold and are unsuitable for children. Also, while walking we saw that there were toys for children and we wondered why our son wasn't allowed to play with them even though we waited almost an hour for three dishes? For the second time we were disappointed with the restaurants in this city. It was very unpleasant to find that the quality of the food was not maintained. It seems that neither the food nor the guests are respected when spoiled food is served. We do not recommend this restaurant!

We looked around the city and were looking forward to having something to eat in the restaurant after the excursion. We chose the Greif because of the good reviews. When we asked whether there was still a free table, we were told by the waiter that the tables had all been reserved an hour later. We couldn't order certain dishes because it would take too long. It was okay for us because we were pretty hungry too. We were then seated and the drink order was taken and brought straight away. But then we waited in the manageable hallway for a good half an hour without being able to order food. We were completely ignored and finally decided to go to another restaurant. Only when we got up and got dressed did a waitress come back and ask if everything was okay. Guests who showed up after us and also without reservations got something pretty quickly. Such treatment is incomprehensible to us. We will refrain from another visit.

Great hotel in the heart of Rothenburg o.d.T.

The Hotel-Gasthof Goldener Greifen in Rothenburg od der Tauber, Germany, is highly recommended. This is a beautiful old hotel just off the main square in the old town section of Rothenburg. Viewing the art and architecture inside this hotel is as interesting as in any other part of the town. The hotel’s staff are friendly. Everyone we met spoke English very well. Wear your hiking boots when you visit. There were a lot of steps to our third floor room. A. Lot. of steps. The beautiful decor and old woodwork made up for that. Our room was spacious. It easily slept four adults. The toilet was in a small room without an exhaust fan but with a window high up on a wall and difficult to reach. Plan the order of your visits accordingly. The separate bathroom area was large with a big walk-in shower. Be careful - the floor was very slick when wet! There is no air conditioning in the rooms, but opening the windows and turning on the oscillating fan gave us a great night's sleep on a warm July evening. It helped that it rained. The beds are super comfortable with firm mattresses. I do not remember if breakfast was complimentary or if we paid for it when we booked online. The food was good. Don't expect crisp American bacon! It was tasty, lower sodium, and quite wiggly. We checked out of our room in the morning, and the hotel staff allowed us to store our bags in a hidden room while we explored the town until it was time to catch our train. This is not related to the hotel, but if you're visiting the town, you're crazy if you don't go on the Night Watch Tour. It is fantastic, and well worth the 9 euro per person you'll spend for the English version. Ask at the front desk and they’ll tell you about it.

Great hotel! Optimal location, super central. Food delicious and service top. Everyone very friendly. Rooms very clean.

We booked the family room with two double beds for two nights. The historic hotel is incredibly beautiful and decorated with love. Our room was really big and very comfortable, we also liked the beautiful bathroom. Everything was super clean and well maintained. We also enjoyed breakfast, everything was there and even freshly prepared eggs as requested. The location is perfect. Getting there and parking in the yard were super easy. It couldn't have been better. We can absolutely recommend this beautiful hotel with very friendly staff.

Restaurant only review: fantastic place for lunch/dinner in Rothenburg. Very friendly staff and wonderful food. We tried, amongo others, the schnitzel filled with cheese and was delicious. Their soups and creams are also great. We repeated here.

Restaurant only: Unfortunately, the good reviews are confusing. Unfortunately the food wasn't tasty at all. The schnitzel was baked in old fat that smelled like fish (probably from pangasius fillet). Overall, everything tasted like a deep fryer. The side dishes were ready-made products. No love. The service was okay just not very attentive. Overall, the shop probably remained in the 80s, like many restaurants here in Rothenburg. Thanks to the tourists it probably still works.

I can't say anything about the rooms in the inn. However, the restaurant can be recommended. Even if the restaurant is a little old. The Schäufele are particularly delicious here. These are relatively large and fall off the bone. If we are in the area again, we will definitely stop by Inntal again.

We were there as restaurant guests on the recommendation of our landlady. Great Franconian cuisine with very nice staff. We didn't have a reservation, but they still found a place for us.

Rating for restaurant only, we were NOT hotel guests! From the staff to the atmosphere to the food - everything was absolutely convincing and made the evening a real pleasure! We felt very, very comfortable and went home satisfied and full. That's how it should be!

Top in Rothenburg ob der Tauber Are you making an overnight stop in Rothenburg on your journey to or from the south and want to have a delicious and cozy meal in the evening? My wife and I recommend: Hotel-Gasthof “Goldener Greifen”. Nine days ago, an extremely friendly and attentive service gave us an evening that we had never expected in an inn so close to the flood of tourists in Rothenburg's town hall market. The Greifen Dunkel, 0.5 l for €3.30, was malty and tasty and came at the right drinking temperature. With the goulash soup, not only the pot but also the contents were hot and tasted “spicy but not too spicy”. The beer beef melted in your mouth and the extraordinarily tasty beer sauce harmonized perfectly with the side dish spaetzle; a pleasure, also because the kitchen had served up a resolute portion. The selected back steak, which my wife ordered, was tender and juicy, the side fried potatoes were crispy as desired and not too fatty. Both went well with a very tasty beer sauce, which had a different flavor than my dish. Here the chef had shown imagination and good taste. And he loves his work. You could see this on his face. Plum, plum liqueur and sloe spirit at room temperature rounded off this excellent stay. Delicious... Been there in December 2023. All dishes as described above. Highlight: Sweden mug.

Really cool place, big spacious rooms.Staff was real kind. Very private. They did our laundry, very quick and inexpensive.
