Highly recommended! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, and the portions are really generous!

We were in the area, and since it was lunchtime, we Googled a place to go. Since this restaurant had a good rating, we went in to try it. When we arrived, they told us they were running an hour late, if that was okay with us. We agreed and sat down to eat. We ordered drinks: three Cokes and a water. They brought us a glass of water, and then we asked for a bottle of water. Although they didn't bring us bottled water, it should have been tap water, and they charged us as if it were bottled. And it wasn't cold, so we had to ask for ice. They charged us €2.80 for the glass, and €5.80 for the one-liter jug. The right thing to do, since they charge you, is to have served us bottled water. For lunch, we ordered Elsasser Wusa to share, which was good and presented well. And then for our main course, we ordered four Cordon Bleu Frites, which said they took 20 minutes to prepare. At first, they brought us just one Cordon Bleu, and soon the waitress came and asked if we were missing anything else. We told her we needed three more Cordon Bleu. She must have only written down one. They apologized several times for the confusion. We had to wait another 20 minutes, which made the meal take longer than expected. The Cordon Bleu was substantial and very good. The only drawback was that the fries weren't homemade. The service from the staff was good and they were friendly.

The two of us were here by bike. They kindly allowed us to charge our e-bike battery on-site. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the view and refueled. The menu offered a welcome alternative to the usual schnitzel and roast dishes. The three different dumplings were delicious and seemed homemade. The service was also very friendly and attentive. We came across Holzschlägermatte while hiking up to Schauinsland and stopped here for coffee and a beer on the way down. I wish we had discovered it earlier :( the ambience is so cozy and welcoming. The food coming out of the kitchen looked incredibly appetizing, and although we only tried a dessert this time, it was comforting and delicious. I’d definitely love to come back for a proper lunch or dinner!

We were there on Sunday lunchtime; it was quite busy, but not overcrowded. After we placed our order, the drinks and side salad arrived quickly. But that was it... we had ordered dumplings, and the bread apparently still had to be baked. Guests who had arrived a bit after us had already finished their meals, but there was still no sign of our dumplings. When we asked the waiter if it would be long, we were told that it was busy and the wait would be worth it... no apology or anything... after over an hour, the food finally arrived... the wait wasn't worth it; the dumplings were dry on the outside and definitely not freshly made. Our conclusion: No thanks, not again.

Perfect place for a stopover on a tour through the Black Forest. We stopped here spontaneously on a tour through the Black Forest and were not disappointed. We were immediately greeted in a friendly manner and given a free seat. The menu is local, which is very nice. The location is also very nice. I chose the cheese spaetzle, and it was absolutely perfect. Super delicious and extremely filling. Two people could probably share this portion. We would definitely stop by again.

We've wanted to go there for dinner for a long time. And it was worth it. Large schnitzels, the salad was extremely tasty. Refined with home-grown wild garlic. The tarte flambées were also large and delicious. However, the liter of table water for €6.80 seems excessive as it is only tapped from the facility.

The home-style food was a real treat: hearty, freshly prepared and full of flavor. Particularly noteworthy is the breathtaking view from the terrace - simply unique and perfect for ending the day in a relaxed manner. We would like to give special praise to the young waitress, who made the evening even more pleasant with her warm manner, her attentiveness and her sweet smile. From the first minute you felt welcome and well looked after. This restaurant is a real insider tip - we will definitely come back and can highly recommend it!

Ordered food at 1 p.m. and didn't get it until 2:30 p.m. We were about to leave, but the children were understandably hungry and we wouldn't have been able to get anything anywhere else. Unfortunately, the wait wasn't worth it. Fries hard, spaetzle soggy, sauce questionably sour. The children left 3/4 on the plate and I was annoyed that I ate half. I felt unwell all afternoon and by 6 p.m. I was really stressed out. If every table had been occupied by now, there might have been an apology for the poor performance, but that wasn't the case. At the next table, an older couple protested several times that they hadn't paid yet. The waitress said several times that the table had already been accounted for. However, out of decency, the gentleman did not want to leave without paying. Which was granted to him at some point. The older couple didn't give a tip either. It was all very strange. We won't do this to ourselves again. Ps. The salad was OK.

It was an unforgettable experience, in terms of cuisine anyway, but also in terms of the warmth of the employees and the boss: open, friendly and very nice in communication, completely relaxed and simply in a good mood. Respect! Culinary, because the salad is so wonderfully crunchy, the dressing is a hit of sourness, the schnitzel is deliciously breaded very thinly, the fried potatoes are perfect and the spaetzle - they come from another planet, so gigantic in taste and in the combination with cheese and bacon simply hmmm.. For me the pleasure discovery of the year!

We stopped at this restaurant thanks to the Google reviews and we actually had a luxurious meal, with excellent service from the camera that upon arrival brought colored pencils for the children. He helped us choose the dishes and everything was delicious. To repeat if it catches us passing by.

Delicious cuisine, we had the daily recommendation of venison sausage and a Baden plate. Despite the tense staff situation, friendly and fast service. Dog-friendly, in the hot weather there was water for Otto straight away and also a dog ice cream menu. We are very excited and the view is priceless anyway. Thank you for the lovely stay.

Unfortunately we didn't eat anything, but we were told that the kitchen was about to close and we could order quickly. Nice. Friday 2:55 p.m. is strange. Luckily we weren't hungry. Drinks served nice and cold and quickly. Despite being assigned a seat, our request for another table was granted. The panoramic view was simply great, we were even brought a parasol after 20 minutes. If you wanted, you could even lie down in a swing bed and there is also a trampoline and playhouse on the lawn for children. All in all very nice and friendly. Only the parking lot is made of gravel, so you shouldn't park your freshly washed vehicle there, and you should be careful when starting to ride your motorcycle.

In a beautiful mountain restaurant you will be pampered both on the great terrace with a view of the Vosges and in the cozy dining room. After a visit to the suspension bridge and waterfall of Todtnau, we drove back inland. And then you come across another gem. Beautiful location, friendly and fast service. And delicious food. We both had a Flammenkuche, which was great!

Definitely one of my, if not my absolute favorite restaurant at any level in Freiburg and in general. Why? Very easy. Great food in a room where you just feel welcome. Whether as a cozy room with a view of a Black Forest shrouded in fog or with the best view into the distance. And the route to the restaurant also simply invites you to marvel.

Very rustic hut, with lots of wood and a tiled stove. Has a nice terrace with great views. There are regional dishes, especially the Brägele are recommended.

Stopped here after a road trip it was worth it though i'm not familiar of the menu still wanna try something badische essen because that is the purpose of traveling to learn the culture and try new things and taste new Dish. Kids friendly and i loved the black forest cake you must really try while visiting Schwarzwald. Location is amazing looks like above the cloud i Loved it. Price is normal i find it even cheaper with a good service.

Despite its size, it is a very cozy hut with good, down-to-earth food (e.g. cheese spaetzle, goulash with spaetzle, home-made bratwursts, salad plates) and friendly service. You feel welcome there.

Hier wird Freundlichkeit und Service groß geschrieben. Wir haben nach einem kurz zuvor negativen Erlebnis im Restaurant des Berghaus Freiburg. Erlebt wie es sich anfühlt ein gerngesehener Gast zu sein, flott und gut gelaunt wurde uns die Karte gereicht und das Essen kam wohlschmeckend in Windeseile. Danke für solch einen zuvorkommende Art. Wir kommen bestimmt nochmal vorbei. Bleibt so!

Die Holzschlägermatte ist immer wieder ein Besuch wert. Ober super Kuchen tolles Vesper oder ein gutes warmes Essen. Egal was immer große Portionen zu einem guten Preis. Freuen uns auf den nächsten Besuch.

Schönes Lokal, toll gelegen, aufmerksamer freundlicher Service, Essen ist sehr gut. Flammkuchen sehr lecker, Suppe sehr gut und mega lecker.

Das Cordon Bleu mit Schwarzwälder Schinken war exzellent zubereitet und die selbstgemachte Sauce hat das Ganze perfekt abgerundet. Dazu eine außergewöhnlich freundliche Bedienung und ein atemberaubender Blick – ein unvergessliches kulinarisches Erlebnis! Sehr zu empfehlen!

Ob bei einem Zwischenstop beim Wandern, oder mal nach Feierabend, der Weg zur Holzschlägermatte lohnt sich immer, nicht nur bei schönem Wetter. Service,Essen und das ganze drumherum ist in dieser doch sehr schnelllebigen Zeit der richtige Ort zum entspannen und genießen.

Tolles Essen, toller Service, großartige Aussicht. Wir hatten dieses mal das Leberle mit Spätzle. Einfach perfekt.

Herrlicher Gasthof mit Terrasse, toller Blick in die Ferne, nettes Personal, feines Essen und ordentlicher Karte mit sehr guter Auswahl. Und wer auf Motorräder steht, kann die legendäre Schauinslandstrecke beobachten.
