As a Hamburg native, I stumbled upon the restaurant by chance and luckily got a seat on the spot! I'll tell my Munich friends that they should definitely visit Hewad if they want to experience special dishes with particularly friendly service! Next time, the Hamburg native will make an appointment in advance so I have time for a special dessert!

Delicious food, friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere!

The food was fresh and the portions were generous. However, that was the only positive thing about the evening. The service was hectic, exceptionally unfriendly, and inattentive.

Terrible service ruined incredible food. Unfortunately, what was some of the best food of my travels was ruined by the service when it came time to pay the bill. The waiter balked at the tip I left, then made a show of turning to my partner and pointedly asked them to confirm the tip amount. I’ve always left a fair amount, but have never been so directly pressured to leave more. Extremely unprofessional. On the the food - immaculately flavorful. Rich, intense, deep flavors permeate every part of all dishes. Extremely tender meat was cooked to perfection. I understand why so many people order takeout to avoid the in-restaurant service.

Fabulous meal at Hewad! They squeezed us in without a reservation and were so kind. Great service, but the food is the real star of the show. We ate the manti dumplings and even though we were full, the gluttony kicked in and we cleaned our plates.

We were in Munich for a concert :) And we stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and spontaneously stopped in. And we were absolutely thrilled :) It was super delicious, very well seasoned, and the rice and the quark were so divinely delicious. The portion size was also great. If we're in Munich again, we'll be back :)

The location is super quiet, the food is incredibly good, and the service is very friendly. We even got a free dessert. 10/10, I highly recommend it.

The food here is absolutely spectacular. So flavorful and delicious. The service is so good and it is a beautifully decorated space. I liked the Hewad Water (water with Elderberry and fruit) so much i drank 3 of them 😁 Give this place a try. You will not regret it!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely thrilled with this restaurant! You feel welcome as soon as you enter, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu offers a great selection, everything is freshly prepared and creatively presented. The starters were particularly delicious, but the main course also exceeded my expectations. A perfect place for a relaxing evening with friends or family – I'll definitely be back!

Very good food, friendly staff, and a cozy atmosphere. The music isn't too loud (you can easily have a conversation). The lighting inside is dim, making it suitable for people with light sensitivity (e.g., those on the autism spectrum like me) without being too stressful. There's a bit of a wait for your food (about 20-30 minutes), but that's only logical given that it's freshly prepared.

The Afghan restaurant was a wonderful experience! The kabab was perfectly grilled—juicy, flavorful, and full of authentic spices. The warm hospitality and cozy atmosphere made the meal even more special. A true hidden gem for anyone who loves delicious Afghan cuisine!

Very good food. I myself have Afghan roots and was privileged to experience being cooked for like my mother used to. This cuisine is very authentic. It's definitely worth a visit.

The staff needs to be reworked. They're extremely rude and arrogant. Customers laugh at you if you don't understand something and lecture you. No thanks, and tips are NOT a given.

We had a very pleasant evening. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. We were even allowed to stay a little longer than our reservation. The food was wonderfully flavorful. We actually wanted to take photos, but our appetites were too great. By the time we remembered, our plates were already half empty... we'll be back!

Mein Frau und ich wollten im Hewad Restaurant zum Abendessen gehen. Meine Frau bat bei einem der Gerichte aufgrund einer Nahrungsunverträglichkeit eine einfache Änderung (Salat statt Reis). Der uns bedienende Mann hat nicht nur sehr barsch und rigoros abgelehnt, sondern meine Frau auch in einer derart frauenfeindlichen und herablassenden Art behandelt, dass es nicht nur uns, sondern auch den anderen Gästen peinlich war. Wir sind daraufhin gegangen ohne zu bestellen und werden das Restaurant auch mit Sicherheit nie mehr aufsuchen.

Super delicious and quick: a successful evening at Hewad! The food was freshly prepared, very tasty, and there was a wide selection. We easily discovered several tempting dishes and were spoiled for choice. But any other dish would probably have been just as delicious as our two dishes (one grilled chicken, one braised). The dessert was also amazing 👍🏻 Tip: Be sure to try the potatoes with peas in a richly spiced sauce!

So good. This was my first time trying Afghan cuisine, and it's very original; it's nothing like Indian or Middle Eastern cuisine. A charming welcome with an English-German menu. We really enjoyed it.

Amazing experience in Hewad. The food was super super nice, I've tried the suggestions from the waiter and all of them were delicious. The lamb speciality and the drink which is made of yogurt and mango, too. The service was quite helpful and charming. The menú was in english so quite easy to communicate with them. I will repeat again, recommended to everybody :)

We spontaneously decided to visit the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and the food is delicious. However, our visit was marred by the behavior of the waiter, who unfortunately treated us very condescendingly. It's a shame and really, really unpleasant.

TOP service - incredibly great hosts!

My wife and I and our twin boys were absolutely happy. All main courses and all drinks were perfect, the portions were large but not excessive. Our waiter was very kind, patient and helpful. I've eaten at 5-6 Afghan restaurants in Munich over the years, none better than Hewad! We'll be going back soon...

Chic little restaurant in the heart of Munich. You will receive a friendly welcome even without a reservation. We were served attentively and advised on the menu in a friendly and patient manner. The dishes were extremely good and also of high quality. Here we cook with love and work with joy.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant. I can only recommend it. Food and service is outstanding.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Munich. We get the lamb grill with the pumpkin appetizer, absolutely delectable. This time we also tried the dessert (photo) which was also unlike anything I've had before, a treat for the taste buds. Great service here of course compliments the meal. Definitely organize a reservation in advance to make sure you get a spot, lots of people also think this restaurant is great. Looking forward to the next time!

The food was good, but the service was unfriendly, arrogant and even abusive at the end. I wouldn't recommend it. There are other very good Afghan restaurants in Munich.

Unfortunately, the food took a back seat during our visit as we were repeatedly complained about unpleasantly by the waitress. The reasons why we were picked on/looked at strangely, as a warning to future guests: -We were 2 minutes early -2 people canceled at short notice -We couldn't immediately guarantee whether a friend would come -We didn't know how to pronounce the dishes correctly -We pointed out that our order was not complete -We didn't know that the reservation was only for 1.5 hours and we had to leave immediately afterwards -Because a friend was smoking outside the door when we had to pay -We asked to be allowed to collect our bags and cell phones before our table is cleaned If you stick to all of these points and behave accordingly, you can enjoy delicious Afghan food in a somewhat hectic atmosphere.

Spontan haben wir einen Platz bekommen. Das Restaurant war sehr gut besucht, hatte aber trotzdem eine gemütliche Wohnzimmer-Atmosphäre. Sehr freundlicher Service und leckeres Essen haben diesen Besuch abgerundet. Beim nächsten Besuch in München gerne wieder.

My favorite restaurant in Munich! I have never eaten such fantastically seasoned food in a restaurant. There is (also) a great selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. The people who work here are sooo nice. You feel totally welcome. It should also be noted that it is really comfortable to sit on. I highly recommend Hewad Restaurant! 😍

All I can say is: palate-friendly, simply good Cozy atmosphere and very friendly service

Reservations are only possible by telephone; I was hired on January 2nd. Unfortunately, at 5:30 p.m. I had to wait several minutes with the receiver next to it until I hung up. That doesn't give a good first impression! Afterwards there was a nice call back and the reservation was made. But it is only possible for 1.5 hours! And this is also the case with six people: we had to pay after exactly 85 minutes in order to leave the restaurant after 90 minutes. We were given ONE bill for everyone, which we were allowed to divide ourselves. We were warmly greeted and served. What bothered me were the delivery men from WOLT and LIEFERANDO who were constantly coming in and out. Tip: reserve space in the back areas! The restaurant is small and cozy, the seating is quite tight. You can't click on the menu online. Neither with the Android cell phone/Google Chrome nor with Firefox on the laptop, see screenshot from February 27, 2025. Emails drawing attention to this remain unanswered Price examples: 0.5 liter shandy €4.70 0.2 l Lugana €6.90 Main courses between 16 and 22 €, e.g. B. "Kababe Morgh ba Palau" (=grilled chicken on brown baked spiced rice with almonds) €16.90 or mixed grill plate €20.90 "Quabeli Palau ba Goscht" (= gently braised lamb with brown baked spiced rice, almonds, carrot strips and raisins) €18.50. The food was very good, the portions were large. We would go there again for the food, but unfortunately the service isn't that great.

Wir waren an einem Mittwochabend vor Ort. Es gab bei der Reservierung zwei Essenszeiten 18 Uhr für 2 Stunden oder ab 20 Uhr Open End. Da wir uns immer viel zu erzählen haben, wählten wir die späte Essenszeit. Als ich vor Ort ankam, war das Lokal bis auf zwei Tische komplett belegt. Einer der beiden Tische wartete schon auf uns. Es waren 3 Gesellschaften mit 6-8 Personen, ansonsten 2-3 Personen pro Tisch. Geschätzter Platz für max. 40 Personen. Ich stand etwas länger an der Tür, da die Servicekraft gerade Essen servierte. Obwohl eine zweite Person hinter der Theke stand, war diese offensichtlich dafür nicht zuständig. Die Tische stehen sehr eng und es war insgesamt auch sehr laut, so dass wir uns fast anschreien mussten, aber dennoch versuchten, leise zu sein. Ich rechnete mit einer Heiserkeit am nächsten Tag. Wir wollten mit einem Cremant anstoßen, welcher für 5,90 Euro angeboten wurde. Leider gibt es den nur noch als Flasche. Stattdessen bot uns der Service einen Prosecco an, der nicht in der Karte stand. Die Gläser kamen sehr gut gefüllt, bis zum Rand war nur noch ein Millimeter Platz. Leider war er auch etwas zu warm und eher halbtrocken. Mit nur 70ct Preisunterschied zum Cremant lt. Rechnung. Aufgrund der späten Essenszeit sollte es für beide nur ein Hauptgericht werden. Ich entschied mich für eine der gegrillten Chicken Specialties, nämlich Kababe Morgh (17,90 Euro), dazu konnte ich Reis und Gemüse wählen. Ich entschied mich für traditionellen gebackenen braunen Reis mit Mandeln, Karotten und Rosinen sowie als Gemüse den Spinat nach afghanischer Art. Meine Freundin wählte Narendj Wa Badenjan Borani (18,90 Euro). Hierbei handelte es sich um scharf marinierte gegrillte Hähnchenbrust mit gebackenem Safran Basmati Reis, Mandeln und Zesten von süßer sowie saurer Bitterorange dazu gebratene Aubergine in Tomaten-Zwiebelsauce. Beide Portionen waren völlig ausreichend. Meine Freundin war begeistert von ihrem Gericht. Genau wie bei mir war das Fleisch schön gegrillt, die Fleischportionen genau richtig. Die Auberginen leicht rauchig im Geschmack und der Reis al dente. Auch mein Reis mit den Rosinen schmeckte nicht übertrieben süß, gerade die richtige Anzahl an Beeren. Der Spinat war gut gewürzt. Alles in Allem volle Punktzahl. Wir entschieden uns dann noch jeder für ein Dessert. Leider gab es den Reispudding nicht mehr also verzichtete ich. Meine Freundin orderte Ferni (5,50 Euro). Dabei handelte es sich um eine afghanische Creme mit Kardamom, Safran und Mandeln sowie Orangenscheiben. Ich durfte probieren, aber mir war das ganz etwas zu cremig. Ihr hat es geschmeckt und darauf kommt es an. Kurz nach unserer Ankunft wurde quasi jeder Tisch neu belegt. Das System funktioniert also. Allerdings ist uns das zu hektisch, auch bei der Geräuschkulisse. Schade, dass Essen war wirklich gut.

The taste of the food was really excellent, even if the portions were rather small. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing - the staff seemed unfriendly and uninterested. What was particularly annoying was that we were asked to leave after exactly two hours because the table was reserved from 8 p.m. I had to hastily drink the cola I had just ordered. It's a real shame because the kitchen is impressive. However, if you value pleasant service, you're better off at Chopan - the food there is just as good, but the treatment of guests is much friendlier.

We were there on Monday evening without a reservation and the service made it possible for the 3 of us to get a table, despite the restaurant being full. The food was incredibly good. Lots of flavors that you don't necessarily get to taste in Germany. We would love to come back and I can highly recommend everyone to eat there. - Reservation is just a clear advantage.

A restaurant that deserves its name - Hewad means home, and that's exactly the feeling you get with every visit to this cute little restaurant. From the first moment you feel welcome. Although it is always quite busy, the waiters make every effort to please every guest. A reservation is definitely recommended, but even without it, the staff always try their best and are flexible to accommodate any request. The dishes are prepared with special care and love. If you like rice, you're in rice heaven here. The ingredients are fresh, the spices are perfectly balanced and you can literally taste the tradition and dedication behind every preparation. I love the variety of flavors and have been coming here regularly for years now. I used to have little idea of ​​Afghan cuisine, but I am grateful that at Hewad I can get to know at least a small piece of this wonderful culture and loving people.

A fantastic restaurant. Great food. Very nice staff. Very fond of children. We were two mothers with 4 children. We felt so well taken care of. Our children love the food. Especially the yogurt dip and rice. We always enjoy coming back. Thanks.

I didn’t have a great experience with the service at Hewad, but the food was incredibly delicious (one of the best meal of the last months) that I don’t want to give any rating below 5 stars. Also, the lack of service it’s not done on purpose. Regarding the food, I cannot recommend it enough. I hope they will improve their service cause some situations were quite unpleasant (dirty glasses with traces of lipstick, being left at the door for 5+ minutes with the table immediately available, all the dishes served at the same time etc) But all things said, it is a good restaurant and I still recommend to go (armed with a little patience maybe)

Das Lokal ist klein und war voll besetzt. Wir waren zu Fünft an unserem reservierten Tisch; die Reservierung war schon recht mühsam, da das Telefon nicht gut besetzt ist. Die Einrichtung und der freundliche, bemühte Service kamen bei uns erstmal gut an. Das Essen schmeckt vorzüglich und wir genossen die gute Qualität und die ausgesprochen intensiven Aromen der verschiedenen Gerichte in vollen Zügen. Auch das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist voll in Ordnung. Zwar wussten wir, das die Essenszeit unserer Sitzung um 20:00 Uhr endet. Jedoch hat das sehr rigorose Verteilen eines " Infodruck´s " der sich als Rechnung herausstellte die Stimmung deutlich gedrückt; und das gleich an vielen Tischen. Die anschließende vehemente Abkassierung machte den faden Beigeschmack, sich als Gast nicht wohlfühlen zu können komplett. Das Restaurant ist um 18:00 Uhr nur für eine kurze Essenseinnahme z. B. nach dem Büro geeignet.

The food is great. The service is underground. We arrived five minutes before eight o'clock and were sternly told that we wouldn't have the table until eight o'clock and that we were too early. The restaurant was full and it was cold outside. We stood around stupidly until we could get to the table. We couldn't order an aperitif either, we were again strictly informed that he didn't have time to take our order and we would have to wait. In the end, the four of us felt like little schoolchildren being reprimanded. It was also cool in the restaurant because the door kept opening and the cold winter air came in. The atmosphere is rather uncomfortable. Our mood was clouded. This is not how you want to be treated as a guest in a restaurant. Even though the food was good, unfortunately we won't be back.

We really enjoy eating here during the fair. Yesterday we had dinner again with a large group. It was delicious! Great food in a great atmosphere. Absolute recommendation!

Not easy to get a place. It's best to reserve well in advance. Since I prefer to eat out spontaneously, I've only had luck once so far.

The food was good, no question about it, but - as mentioned several times in other posts here - we were treated disrespectfully and deceitfully by the employee who was responsible for us. We would come back for the food, but would switch to another restaurant because of the service.
