I'm leaving one star because you can't give less! The service is deplorable. Avoid this restaurant if you want to eat and be treated well.

The food in general is excellent. I recommend the Kabli rice with spinach or potatoes and chicken. Reservations are required. Parking is difficult.

Nice restaurant, good food and something different. But I remembered the quality being better.

My first encounter with Afghan cuisine was at this restaurant, and now I regret not having tried it much sooner. Great restaurant with delicious food and very friendly staff.

Very delicious food! We had a meat dish (chicken with plum/rhubarb rice and saffron lentil sauce) and a vegetarian dish (rice with almonds and raisins with eggplant, tomatoes, and quark). Both were excellent, especially very well seasoned! The drinks were also delicious (we had fresh beer and "Chopan water," which has lime, elderberry, and other flavors). The service was very friendly and attentive. We didn't have to wait long for the food either. Since we sat outside, I can't comment on the ambiance inside. Outside, the seating is relatively close to the street and quite close together.

From a pure taste perspective (the spices themselves), it was very good. However, it was much too spicy for me. I didn't order anything exotic, just chicken breast with slaw and flatbread. Even the salad had chili... unfortunately, it wasn't labeled, so I couldn't tell. So I had to. But spiciness is a matter of taste... :-) My boyfriend was happy... two meals for him...

A very excellent Afghan restaurant, and the rice is delicious. I ordered meat and chicken, I think the order number was 55 and 35. The Afghan salad was also delicious. I highly recommend trying it. Reservations are required, but I expect the staff would be helpful and friendly if they weren't there.

The food is delicious even though it arrived a little cold. The staff are a little slow to respond. The restaurant is small and the tables are almost next to each other.

Amazing food. I ordered the slow cooked Chicken with Eggplant tomatoes on the side. The food came promptly and was so well seasoned. I went when then opened at 5pm so I could get a table but make sure you make reservations if you’re coming after 6.30pm as they are very popular!

I’ve never had afghani food so wasn’t sure what to expect f but the menu looked good. I ordered the veal with spinach. It was amazing. The veal was excellent-tender and juicy, covered by a thick layer of stewed spinach. Spinach was perfectly cooked, and i could almost detect the flavor of smoke (probably one of the slices). The basmati rice was perfectly cooked as well. I went around 6pm on Sunday and no problems getting a table, though many other nights I walked past and saw it was very busy. This is a great option especially if you want a break from the Bavarian food .

This was my first time at an Afghan fine dining restaurant, and it honestly exceeded my expectations. The food was super tasty, and the guy managing the place was really friendly and had such a great vibe. We had the Lamb Bukhari, rice with lentils, and the eggplant starter — everything was packed with flavor and really well done. Definitely a place I’d come back to!

I absolutely love the food they have, it is served very nicely plated and tastes absolutely amazing. This places simply never disappoints me. I can very much recommend coming here and also a must try is the date tea.

Absolutely delicious. My group had two lamb and two chicken dishes. We devoured all of it. We were also advised to try the yogurt dessert and it was amazing. Make yourself a reservation, you won't be disappointed.

You've probably all experienced that moment when you decide to cut a visit short because of poor service. Unfortunately, that was the case for me today. After being ignored for almost 30 minutes, I left and won't be coming back.

I really don't understand so many good reviews. Food: we ate there with some friends, my friends dishes were good, not extraordinary, and rather underwhelming. We all agreed that we've had so much better afghan food before. My dish on the other hand, was extremely salty. I wish I had asked them to change it in the beginning, unfortunately I didn't, and I just ate half my food. Atmosphere: It's a rather small and a very cramped place, so it becomes extremely loud, and therefor I really can't recommend it if you want to have a conversation with someone. On top of that, at some point they started playing a music(or maybe it was always there) that was barely audible, but just adding to the noise.

The food was good, but not much for the price. Service was extremely inattentive. The starter arrived quite quickly, but unfortunately without cutlery – it arrived a few minutes later. A fork fell on the table, which the waiter took back but never replaced. After the starter, the empty plates weren't cleared for about 20 minutes, and no orders for the main course were taken. There was always someone else at the surrounding tables, so it wasn't clear who was even responsible for our table. We then decided to change restaurants for the main course.

A unique taste experience! A blend of Indian and Arabic with plenty of spices and herbs – a must-try. For example, the spinach: a unique, wonderful flavor. Or the spiced rice as a side dish, pumpkin and eggplant as a starter with a spicy sauce…the soups – a poem! Very friendly staff, small but tastefully decorated in an oriental style. We'll be back again and again 😊

Ok, I just had Narendj palau ba goschte if I spell that correctly, and it tasted like heaven. The portion was huge, so I had to ask to pack half of it to go 🥹 My food and drink were served in under 3 minutes — I can't even fetch food from my own kitchen that fast. And the staff are so nice and friendly, and the place is beautiful too. This instantly became my favourite place in Munich and I will be bringing al my friends and family here ❤️ P.S. let me add about the drink — dagh (?) or something like that, the first from top on the "traditional drinks" page. Highly recommend with that food I mentioned, or just anytime. It's a bit like a liquid salad, perfect for summer.

We were in Munich for 1 week and are out for every meal...this was far and away the best of the bunch. Couldn't recommend Chopan more!

I came to this restaurant with high expectations after seeing the reviews, and was still incredibly impressed! The food was delicious, great value for money, and came extremely fast — we were flabbergasted. We had never tried Afghan cuisine before but it is a new favourite for us! The chicken was tender, the rice flavourful, and the presentation unmatched. People should put raisins in more food. Our waiter was an exceptional delight and really brightened our day — a true highlight of our visit to Munich. If we lived near here we would eat here whenever we could.

This is the first time in my life that I have tasted Afghan food to its fullest. Honestly, it is wonderful. I wish this restaurant was in Saudi Arabia. We ordered and had it delivered today. The food was good, but what I found disappointing was that my vegetarian eggplant dish had exactly two pieces of eggplant. The rest was tomato.

A very nice restaurant with a beautiful interior. The food was good and tasted completely different than expected. I particularly enjoyed the pumpkin starter. The main course was good but nothing special. I found the meat a bit dry. But all in all, a very nice restaurant for a pleasant evening. The price, however, was a bit higher than expected.

It is a place that can be recommended due to its excellent mixture of flavors, but does not shine for its customer service. Super arrogant and conceited personnel. We wait 30 minutes for the simplest order and when we called them, they did not attend us. To finish off, they poured the cutlery in the reception and noise of the metal leaves us deaf.

It's fascinating that everything works so well despite such a small space. The restrooms in the separate room are tiny. I found that funny.

To our delight, every visit to Chopan am Gasteig is pretty similar: a full house, efficient, never hectic activity, and a mix of anticipation (guests still waiting for their food), mostly quiet enjoyment (during the meal), and deep satisfaction afterward. The quality of the food has remained consistently high (excellent) for many years, the service prompt and courteous, and the bottom line is: When will we be back?

The best Afghan restaurant, very beautiful. If you haven't tried their food, you've missed half your life. Honestly, it's delicious and worth a try. I tried their beef with Bukhari rice and meat with lentils and bread. It was amazing. It was the first time I've eaten something like it. Don't forget their yogurt, which is made in a special way.

Too many spices unfortunately, as an Afghan I know how the food is made and unfortunately everything was too spiced and had no taste inside, while this is what it should be. Also the prices were too high for what you get despite it being over-seasoned and lacking in flavor.

At 1.73 m, I'm not really a giant, but I still didn't know what to do with my legs at the table for dwarves. Very uncomfortable. The rest was absolutely fine, but far from inspiring!

The atmosphere is more reminiscent of a fast food restaurant. The meat dish was actually sophisticated, especially with the bitter orange, although relatively dry. Vegetarian: Not recommended at all. We visited Chopan to celebrate an occasion. The food was amazing. We ordered the braised and grilled lamb with rice filled with almonds and carrots. I would definitely recommend to taste the lamb dishes. It was juicy and tender. The roasted egg plant in tomato onion sauce is unbeatable. The restaurant is packed usually. But we were seated quickly. Highly recommended for its flavor and tender meat.

My husband and I reserved a table at 6:30 p.m. on December 7, 2024, but we were there about 10 minutes earlier. At the beginning everything went smoothly and we were absolutely thrilled with the food. We treated ourselves to an aperitif, starter, main course, wine, dessert and tea. The service initially seemed very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately we couldn't maintain this great atmosphere until the end. At around 8:10 p.m. the waitress brought us the bill without being asked and said: “The colleague told me they wanted to pay.” We then said that this wasn't actually the case, but then paid anyway. At around 8:20 p.m. we were asked to finish the tea we had started and to leave as soon as possible because the table was needed for other guests. Since this really spoiled my mood, I told the waitress as I was leaving that you should tell the guests on the phone that the table was only available for a limited time. We could have easily appeared at 6 p.m. The waitress then said that this was normally the case, but we apparently forgot about it. Sure, this can happen. However, I find it very rude to bring the guests the bill without being asked and give a crude excuse, especially when we consumed 117 euros. It's a real shame that the evening had to end like this.

Mein Mann und ich haben am 7. Dezember 2024 um 18:30 einen Tisch reserviert, waren aber schon ca. 10 Minuten früher dort. Zu Beginn lief alles einwandfrei und wir waren vollends begeistert vom Essen. Wir gönnten uns Apero, Vorspeise, Hauptgang, Wein, Dessert und Tee. Auch die Bedienung wirkte anfangs sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Diese tolle Stimmung konnten wir leider nicht bis zum Ende beibehalten. Um ca. 20:10 brachte uns die Bedienung unaufgefordert die Rechnung mit der Begründung: “Der Kollege sagte mir sie wollen bezahlen.” Wir sagten dann, dass dies eigentlich nicht der Fall sei, bezahlten dann aber trotzdem. Um etwa 20:20 wurden wir dann gebeten den noch angefangenen Tee möglichst bald zu Ende zu trinken und zu gehen, da der Tisch für andere Gäste benötigt werde. Da mir dies ziemlich die Stimmung vermieste sagte ich der Bedienung dann beim Gehen, dass Sie den Gästen doch bereits am Telefon sagen sollen, dass der Tisch nur für eine begrenzte Zeit zur Verfügung stehe. Wir hätten nämlich auch problemlos bereits um 18:00 erscheinen können. Die Bedienung sagte dann zwar, dass dies normalerweise der Fall sei, aber scheinbar ging dies bei uns vergessen. Klar, dies kann ja mal passieren. Dennoch finde ich es sehr unhöflich den Gästen unaufgefordert die Rechnung zu bringen mit einer plumpen Ausrede, vor allem dann, wenn wir für 117.- Euro konsumiert haben. Echt schade, dass der Abend so enden musste.

Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert, wurden dann allerdings an einem Platz am Eingang, direkt im Durchgang und Zug platziert. Obwohl wir hier regelmäßig vor Ort waren, wurden wir so behandelt und abserviert, als wir einen anderen Tisch wollten. Leider werden Gäste hier nicht so behandelt, wie es eigentlich sein soll. Diese Unfreundlichkeit uns gegenüber hat mich sprachlos gemacht. Ich werde hier definitiv nicht mehr Speisen verzehren. Außerdem finde ich es eine Frechheit, Bewertungen, die der Wahrheit entsprechen, löschen zu lassen, nur weil sie negativ sind.

Really great food and friendly service. Very child-friendly. The ambiance is also nice, but a bit cramped. My only major criticism: While we were there, a photo shoot for the restaurant was taking place – right at the peak of the evening. The constant flashing of the cameras visibly bothered several customers. This should be done separately from normal business in the future. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Unglaublich arrogant und unfreundlich am Telefon. Zwei Tischzeiten am Montagabend (!) 18.00 Uhr oder 20.30 Uhr, keinerlei Flexibiltät bei der Tischreservierung. Die arme Gastronomie... Ich habe jetzt in einem anderen afghanischen Restaurant ohne Probleme zur gewünschten Zeit reserviert.

The food was delicious. I strongly recommend the "quabeli palau wa borani badenjan". The meat was tender, the rice cooked well with many spices, and the tomato sauce was addictive. I would definitely like to go back next time I visit Munich. PS. The place is small and a reservation seems necessary to get a table.

We went for dinner and were lucky enough to get a table without reservation but I highly recommend to make a reservation because they have limited space and gets really full/busy. We had a ziegenkäse salat, which was really good considering i don’t even eat salat but this one i tried and it was great! For our main course we had the numbers 28 and 48 (i dont remember the names 🙈) and i just have to say, i would definitely go back to this restaurant! Aside from the food being really good, the service was also really nice and friendly and created a great atmosphere!

Me and my boyfriend went to this restaurant on Valentines day! We made the reservation one week before it and they got us a table for 2 at 21h, which turned out pretty good since we had a full day planned. The environment of the restaurant i would say it’s very traditional and cozy, at the same time it is elegant and sophisticated. The food was a big amazing surprise. We went already with big expectations and the food didn’t disappoint at all. The price/quality is perfect, considering that you get a big portion for a max of 25€ for the main course. And the quality of the food was just phenomenal. A mix of spicy and tasty food combined into a very balanced dish. It was simply delicious. 10/10 would recommend. We spent in total 95€ with tips included. We had two drinks each, both different types of Spritz, we ask for a starter to share and then one main dish for each. So i would say, for Munich, it is not an expensive restaurant for the amazing gastronomy experience you get! ⭐️

Nett eingerichtet. Sehr freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Viel Auswahl an Speisen und Getränken. Portionen groß. Essen sehr gut! Preise fair. Für 2 Personen mit Vorspeise, Hauptgericht, Dessert und Wein lagen wir unter 100 €. Wir kommen sicher wieder!

Die vielen guten Bewertungen kann ich bestätigen. Die Speisen perfekt zubereitet und sehr schmackhaft. Wir haben zuvor nie afghanische Küche probiert und waren sehr gespannt aber auch unsicher was gut sein kann und unserem europäischen Gaumen gut tut. Der Wirt, ein Bruder des Betreibers in Schwabing, hat uns bestens beraten und ist sehr freundlich, wie auch das gesamte Personal. Vorspeisen Auswahl und eine Auswahl als Hauptgericht, wurde empfohlen und ist auch mein Tipp hier. Man muss jedoch guten Appetit mitbringen, so gut schmeckt alles. Da der Gastraum sehr klein ist, muss man reservieren. Man muss die Geschäftigkeit mögen und darf nicht ein ruhiges Lokal erwarten. Zum Teil sind die Tische sehr eng gestellt und kommt kaum daran vorbei ohne Tuchfühlung. Wenn man zu zweit reserviert unbedingt nach der genauen Platzierung erkundigen. Das ist jetzt nicht so mein Fall wenn es eng ist. Die Einrichtung ist einfach aber passt zum Ambiente.

Great Afghan restaurant opposite the Müllerisches Volksbad. It's not surprising that there are two rooms relatively close to each other. We ate in the rather small room. This is authentically and warmly furnished. It creates a beautiful ambience. The light was also slightly dimmed, which I found pleasant. The music was still okay in terms of volume. The meal consisted of several dishes, including braised and grilled lamb. I had braised lamb as shown in the picture. The portion is generous and was a bit too much. The nice gentleman packed it for me to take with me. What I can recommend in terms of taste is the grilled lamb. It was very tender and delicious. If you want to try out a new type of cuisine and treat yourself to something delicious, you've come to the right place.
