Nett eingerichtet. Sehr freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Viel Auswahl an Speisen und Getränken. Portionen groß. Essen sehr gut! Preise fair. Für 2 Personen mit Vorspeise, Hauptgericht, Dessert und Wein lagen wir unter 100 €. Wir kommen sicher wieder!

Die vielen guten Bewertungen kann ich bestätigen. Die Speisen perfekt zubereitet und sehr schmackhaft. Wir haben zuvor nie afghanische Küche probiert und waren sehr gespannt aber auch unsicher was gut sein kann und unserem europäischen Gaumen gut tut. Der Wirt, ein Bruder des Betreibers in Schwabing, hat uns bestens beraten und ist sehr freundlich, wie auch das gesamte Personal. Vorspeisen Auswahl und eine Auswahl als Hauptgericht, wurde empfohlen und ist auch mein Tipp hier. Man muss jedoch guten Appetit mitbringen, so gut schmeckt alles. Da der Gastraum sehr klein ist, muss man reservieren. Man muss die Geschäftigkeit mögen und darf nicht ein ruhiges Lokal erwarten. Zum Teil sind die Tische sehr eng gestellt und kommt kaum daran vorbei ohne Tuchfühlung. Wenn man zu zweit reserviert unbedingt nach der genauen Platzierung erkundigen. Das ist jetzt nicht so mein Fall wenn es eng ist. Die Einrichtung ist einfach aber passt zum Ambiente.

The food is great, but be careful not to order anything here again. Ordered from Wolt four times and got the wrong food four times! How can something like this happen?

Great Afghan restaurant opposite the Müllerisches Volksbad. It's not surprising that there are two rooms relatively close to each other. We ate in the rather small room. This is authentically and warmly furnished. It creates a beautiful ambience. The light was also slightly dimmed, which I found pleasant. The music was still okay in terms of volume. The meal consisted of several dishes, including braised and grilled lamb. I had braised lamb as shown in the picture. The portion is generous and was a bit too much. The nice gentleman packed it for me to take with me. What I can recommend in terms of taste is the grilled lamb. It was very tender and delicious. If you want to try out a new type of cuisine and treat yourself to something delicious, you've come to the right place.

Chopan is a highly rated restaurant near Gasteig offering Afghani cuisine. It's always advisable to make a reservation in advance as the place is often crowded and it isn't easy to get a table via a walk-in. We called for a Shorba-e-Daal (a lentil soup, highly recommend), Narenj Palau ba Kababe Morgh wa Badenjan Borani (No: 36) and Kababe Morgh ba Palau (No: 32). The chicken kababs were excellent and the rice was very flavourful. We enjoyed our meal, although the portion sizes could be bigger! The seating is a bit cramped but does not hamper the experience. The only drawback was the service, at times was impolite and they forgot our drink order. Hence reduced 2 stars on service. Overall - must visit for the the meal.!

Visiting Munich? Even for one day? Then you have to try Chopan. What an amazing food, experience, owner, and staff. Book in advance because it’s always fully booked and no wonder why, the food is exceptional

Unfortunately we were not satisfied with our visit. The food was very spicy, although this was not stated in the menu. To temper the spiciness, we ordered herb quark, but it arrived at least half an hour late when the food was almost eaten. So we could only try a spoonful of it. Nevertheless, the quark was fully charged in the bill. When we asked the waitress about it, she said she had to charge for the quark. Unfortunately disappointing service, hence only 2 stars.

Chopan Restaurant is a timeless treasure! I first came here over 10 years ago, and today, nothing has changed—and I absolutely love that. The food is as delicious as ever, with authentic Afghan flavors that never disappoint. The hospitality remains warm and welcoming, making every visit feel special. The old branch holds so many memories for me, and I truly appreciate how they’ve preserved the same great experience over the years. Highly recommended for anyone seeking outstanding Afghan cuisine!

Always packed but the food make it worth it. Super good Afghan food and great staff - the atmosphere was good but the tables were placed too close together - definitely worth it to eat such amazing food.

The food tasted wonderful, but unfortunately it wasn't a romantic evening for two. The whole time, delivery staff came in and out, right past our table. As a result, it was quite restless and, above all, extremely cold (icy wind outside, the door didn't close properly and was usually left ajar, there is no vestibule). Even with the best food, a cozy evening for two is not possible. The delivery business should somehow be carried out spatially separately. It ruins the visit to the restaurant or is at least very annoying. It's a shame actually.

My husband and I reserved a table at 6:30 p.m., but were there about 10 minutes earlier. At the beginning everything went smoothly and we were absolutely thrilled with the food. We treated ourselves to an aperitif, starter, main course, wine, dessert and tea. The service initially seemed very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately we couldn't maintain this great atmosphere until the end. At around 8:10 p.m. the waitress brought us the bill without being asked and said: “The colleague told me they wanted to pay.” We then said that this wasn't actually the case, but then paid anyway. At around 8:20 p.m. we were asked to finish the tea we had started and to leave as soon as possible because the table was needed for other guests. Since this really spoiled my mood, I told the waitress as I was leaving that you should tell the guests on the phone that the table was only available for a limited time. We could have easily appeared at 6 p.m. The waitress then said that this was normally the case, but we apparently forgot about it. Sure, this can happen. However, I find it very rude to bring the guests the bill without being asked and give a crude excuse, especially when we consumed 117 euros. It's a real shame that the evening had to end like this.

Comfortable atmosphere and welcoming, the service is also very nice. The food was more than 5 stars! I'll be back :-)

Great food, great service and absolutely reasonable prices. The city needs restaurants like this!

We had our reservation at 7pm. We had barely finished eating when we were thrown out at 8 p.m. Because a new reservation would have to come. Nobody told us that this was the case in the store. We didn't have time left for drinks afterwards, dessert and coffee. The dishes were tasty, but somehow everything was the same. Chairs and tables very narrow and uncomfortable. We then looked for another restaurant and ended our evening there. I won't go there again and can't recommend Chopan am Gasteig.

Nothing to say, such a great discovery

We found the restaurant spontaneously and it looked very busy. After a friendly conversation with the service, we spontaneously got a table. Totally transparent that we have the table for 2 hours if that's OK with us. That was completely enough for us. The food was very very very tasty. We went here for traditional dishes and drinks and were completely impressed. We'll definitely be back.

This variant, which is significantly larger than the original restaurant and is two doors down, is very tastefully furnished. The very narrowly placed tables along the wall will prevent some people from sitting on the bench, which is comfortably furnished with lots of colorful cushions, because they cannot get through. After so many years, the food is still phenomenal, excellently seasoned, a pure joy. (Little warning: It's better not to order the flatbread, it's not Nan, but more like Turkish.) Service super nice and friendly. Absolute and unreserved recommendation, make a reservation urgently!

It is the best restaurant in Munich I had visit. Mr.Arian is very supportive person and I recommend all to ask about him because he’ll make your visit unbelievable.

At 1.73 m, I'm not really a giant, but I still didn't know what to do with my legs at the table for dwarves. Very uncomfortable. The rest was absolutely fine, but far from inspiring!

It's a shame that there was a time limit (7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) for eating.

Afghanische Küche kann ich allen empfehlen, die gerne orientalische Gewürze mögen. Uns hat es sehr gut geschmeckt. Geschmortes Lamm, wofür man kein Messer gebraucht hätte, weil es super zart und weich war. Sowie gegrilltes Hähnchen mit Spinatreis. Beides hat top geschmeckt.

Amazing meals, very different than the "usual" western/asian selection, highly recommended. The seasoning of the meals and the usage of ingredients are indeed exciting it is for sure a great experience and an excellent value price ratio.

I can't understand the other four and five star reviews. The store is mediocre at best. The staff tends to be unfriendly, the atmosphere has a snack bar feel and the food portions are also rather small. All in all, not an experience I would value again...

As an Iranian, this was the first time I've tried Afghan food. It was something between Persian and Indian food. Like Persian food with a kick. The food was very good, the portions aren't too big and the prices are reasonable. The place is small though, it's better to get a reservation.

We managed to get a reservation for 9pm as the restaurant was very busy and now we understand why. The food was phenomenal! I consider myself a bit of a foodie and this was absolutely one of the best meals I have had dining out for a long time. We ordered the dahl with Afghan bread as an appetiser. The dahl was delicious and perfectly spicy. We then had the grilled lamb with flatbread which was perfectly cooked and juicy, the chicken with rice and lentils, sweet and spicy and the house special braised lamb with rice and aubergine. What a delicious dish! The rice took me back to living in Saudi Arabia where kabsa rice is the speciality. It was unbelievably tasty and the best I’ve had since that time. The staff are pleasant and attentive also. Well done to everyone. I would love to come back next time in Munich.

Simply the best restaurant in Munich.

The food is very normal, the Bukhari rice is like Sayadiyah rice, the meat is not delicious at all, the place is cramped, and the service is normal. It may be crowded, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

The restaurant requires reservations, but we entered, thank God.. We ordered lentil soup with a mixture / potato appetizer with amazing yogurt and dill sauce / amazing Bukhari rice with chicken / rice with amazing lamb / plain saffron rice

Avoid Avoid ! The waiter will try to sell you buffet menu for group dinners. You will be better off order from the menu.

Meine Frau und ich fahren regelmäßig extra in die Stadt um im Chopan Essen gehen zu gehen. Das Lokal ist sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und bietet ein schönes Ambiente. Das Essen ist ein Gedicht. Die Kürbis Vorspeise ist sehr zu empfehlen.

We had reserved the table from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.! It wasn't until around 6 p.m. that we were asked what we would like to drink and eat. At 6:40 p.m. we were asked to pay because the table was supposed to be free at 7 p.m. 2 minutes later they were cleared and it was repeated that the table was reserved from 7 p.m. At 6:45 p.m. we were asked to leave now! Too bad! There was probably no dessert or coffee left!

Very good Afghan restaurant in Munich. It's rather small, but that makes it all the more comfortable. The decor is very oriental and the service is very friendly and attentive. The food was very tasty, authentic and fresh. The tea is also a pleasure, I recommend the “date tea”! To be on the safe side, you should make a reservation as there is a lot going on here even during the week. I'll definitely come back.

I can’t really rate it because after arriving to the restaurant about an hour and a half before they are set to close, I was turned away. They said the kitchen was “closed” but before that I could hear and see them going back and forth about whether they wanted to seat another person since it seems they were winding down. Seems one guy said it was fine but the other didn’t want to do they sent a hostess to tell me. Funny enough there were still plenty of other people sitting waiting for their meals still (so the kitchen is not closed?). It’s a shame because I wanted to try this place and only had one opportunity to go.

The small, simple dining area here belies the big taste and complex flavors waiting for you at this restaurant. The pumpkin appetizer was delicious, and the chicken was tender and juicy. The eggplant was similarly tasty, and the drinks were well-crafted. Definitely worth a visit.

We walked by this restaurant during the day when it was closed and I said immediately that it wasn't for us. However having read reviews and encouraged by the fact it was close to our hotel, we decided to give it a try. We arrived without a booking on a Sunday evening and we were fitted in as long as we could relinquish the table by 8pm ... no problem! The restaurant was buzzing, the smells divine!. Based on a previous review we ordered the pumpkin appetiser to share ... yummy!! Served with afghani bread ... 2 pieves each. Then for mains we tried a chicken dish and a lamb dish ... both with perfectly cooked brown badmati rice with almonds, sultanas, shredded carrot. All washed down with very pleasant red wine by the glass. Before we left the restaurant we made a booking for the next night at 7pm. A Monday night .... restaurant really busy ... food just as good as previous night (same starter to share, chicken dish, veal dish and the chefs special desert to share). If only we weren't returning to the UK on Tuesday we would be back ... thank you for 2 memorable evenings

Best Afghan restaurant - service is great and friendly, food was the best. "Custom" order for Slow cooked lamb version of no 20. was recommended, and it was amazing. The dessert of Firni was very good. The Yoghurt mango drink was perfect for a hot summer's day. Price was very good as well.

My dish was number 55 in the menu. It was absolutely delicious. 47 was also beautiful. There was a full house, yet the service was good and fast. Strongly recommended 👌🏻

The visit was on August 24, 2024 in the afternoon An Afghan restaurant a little far from the city center and the tourist area. The food is good and the service is good, but the place is hot for me as a Gulf citizen who is accustomed to air conditioning and the food is very expensive.

Very tasty food and the boss is very nice

This was the third time that my table was not reserved (I had called two times to confirm) I was hosting a dinner for family and we were put in the smaller restaurant instead of the main one, as a last resort. Not only is the ambiance very sloppy in the smaller restaurant, the food there is not half as good as the main restaurant, plus the service was awful, the waiter was rude, he was slamming the menus on us, after confirming the order he came back to say that one of the dish ordered was not available, the Chopan Mule had no alcohol in it and later the waiter decided to add on a tip for himself without confirming with me. I am so disappointed I don't think i will ever be returning back to Chopan again.

The vegetarian dishes taste great, but the portions (main course) are too small and the proportion of rice to the side dish is almost 75:25. The vegetable dishes in particular could be filled with more side dishes. It doesn't cost any more than meat and is then acceptable in terms of price/performance ratio. Service good and quick. You sit very closely and your neighbors' conversations are unmistakable. Appropriate music could help. Let's see if I come back

Mega! Super delicious food. We relied on the staff's recommendation - exactly right. Sooo delicious. I don't really like lamb. Had chicken once and lamb once. The chicken was super tasty! But the lamb was a little better. Highly recommended. Main courses around 20,- Staff really nice and accommodating. Actually 6 stars instead of 5 :-)

It’s so delicious, this is a must try restaurant. We tried Quabeli Palau with Aubergine curry(49) and Quabeli Palau with grilled lamb and potato curry (54). Firni as dessert is great too. It’s recommended to reserve before hand.

Chopan am Gasteig is a charming restaurant and the first Afghan restaurant in Munich. The hosts are extremely friendly and attach great importance to offering authentic and traditional Afghan cuisine. The menu includes dishes made according to Mom's recipe, such as pumpkin in tomato sauce and a kind of lentil stew with dried plums. A visit to Chopan am Gasteig promises a culinary journey to your Afghan homeland.

Racism from the restaurant staff towards Arabs and Gulf people in particular. My family and I came and he said I needed a reservation and I accepted the situation, but suddenly a foreigner came with his family without a reservation and let him in. When I inquired from the employee, he said a table had been separated and the restaurant was empty. I wanted to warn that the restaurant staff are racist against the Gulf.

Small Afgan restaurant near Deutsches Museum. Excellent food (be warned: plenty of salt). Full bar and draught Bier. Reservation recommend.
