According to Tripadvisor this should be among the best ethnic restaurants in Munich. The Schwabing neighborhood is charming and full of nice places to eat and this appears to be the place to be. We had reserved a table outside because in August without ac there was no way yo dine inside. We were brought German menus (thanks google translate) and picked a veal-based and a veggie main course. They were both quite bland and despite being among the most expensive courses, far from abundant. The quality of the overcooked meat wasn’t great. Service was quite basic for us, a table by our side was abandoned for twenty minutes with their menus and decided to leave. I can’t say the food was not good, but easily forgettable, we won’t be back.

They serve exactly authentic Afghan food. I’ve visited several times. Every time the food is excellent as well as the quality. This time I ordered a soup and grilled chicken and both were delicious.The portions are very generous and service was super nice. Be aware, this place takes CASH only. The restaurant always busy, so make a reservation in advance to make sure there is a table for you.

I went for dinner, nothing special. In 2024, the possibility of paying by card should also be given by law. I took one of their specialties n. 27, the meat tasted of nothing and the rest was mediocre. A pistachio Baklava served on a soup bowl, and I didn't know how to interpret it... to give you an idea, it was like a tiramisu with cream... nothing. At the time of the bill we discover that they only accept cash and we are told again that they had informed us, I mean every 2 meters there is a restaurant in those parts if it had been like this we would never have sat down. My boyfriend pays the amount due and we wait for the rest which is given to us only when we call him back. Not only payment in cash, but they also take the tip themselves.

It is a very fun restaurant with a variety of Afghan dishes, including many vegan/vegetarian options.

Absolutely phenomenal Afghan food, perfect example how simple food can be so textured with so many layers of taste.

A very nice, nice and interesting restaurant in the middle of Schwabing with an excellent price-performance ratio and very nice staff. The food is traditional Afghan, but the menu also offers dishes from Iranian and Pakistani cuisine, either way very tasty, as you only know from high-quality restaurants like these. There was a gentleman about 50 years old sitting next to us who looked a bit sad because he had been rejected by a lady. Since he looked wealthy, I think he eats here often. However, the gentleman offered a waiter a tip of 50 euros (probably because of his sadness, which he wanted to put away), but the young waiter refused the money and called the restaurant owner, who replied to the gentleman who had already offered him the tip several times. In the end, the 50 euros were not accepted because they did not want to benefit from their situation. This action alone shows the incredible humility of the employees, who always offer good service with a smile on their face. With such staff I would like to come back again.

The food is bombastic. The service is nice and OK. It can happen that you are overlooked. It's good to sit outside, but it's very tight inside.

I've tried so many Afghan restaurant over the years. This was the best Afghan food I have had out of Afghanistan, truly felt like I was back in Kabul. Service super lovely and friendly on top of the amazing atmosphere and delicious bolani, Quabeli Palau, spinach and eggplants!

The food was delicious but the restaurant is unfortunately very small and therefore noisy.

One of my worst dining experiences. We entered the restaurant at the time of our reservation and had to wait 10-15 minutes just to get the table. The space was very busy. We then proceeded to order four dishes, two beers and a dough. The drinks arrived rather fast, the dough was spilled and instead of replacing it, it was watered down to fill the glass, so it tasted pretty bad. After almost one hour of waiting we got our dishes, well, only two of them, and we were very clear while ordering. The waiter said that the grill was closed, so the one of the dishes needed to be changed. We changed the dish. After 10 minutes the waiter comes back and informs us that the kitchen is closed. We had to share the dishes already ordered. Fun thing is that even after about 20 min of this notice other people were getting their orders, even the grilled ones, so I guess the kitchen was actually open, they simply didn't bother to even try to fix the situation. Initially we were informed that the "rice dishes" we received are on the house, but when paying only the drinks were offered to make up for the mistakes, which was actually less than the other option. At that point I didn't even bother to ask explanation and just paid to get over with it. This is my first and last time visiting the restaurant in Schwabing, as in the Gasteig one I've never had such problems.

Best afghan restaurant tried so far. We went for menu 54 (lamb combined with an afghan spinach side dish)and 47 (veal combined with an eggplant with cream side dish). All perfect. Deserve its 5 stars. You have to reserve a table as it seems to be full at all times.

Chopan Schwabing is an Afghan restaurant near Münchner Freiheit. Food: There is a large selection of vegetarian dishes and meat dishes. Our starters and main courses were all outstanding, Afghan cuisine is really different from other Middle Eastern cuisines. Service: Extremely courteous and fast service, our drinks and food were served quickly. Ambience: There are several rooms: While the room for spontaneous visits is a bit more sparse, the room for reservations is much more pleasant and really cozy. Therefore, reservations should definitely be made.

It was like a taste explosion in my mouth; I have rarely eaten Afghan food so well. Highly Recommended!!.

Really delicious! The dishes have something special and I have never eaten them before, absolutely recommended!

We were there without a reservation at around 6 p.m. The staff kindly welcomed us and offered a table for 4 people. We all ordered Quabeli Palau with lamb with appetizer and sodas. The starter with eggplant was very tasty and we really enjoyed the Quabeli. The toilet is decorated in an oriental style and it is just very beautiful. I would definitely recommend the restaurant.

Visited during peak hours and was impressed by the delicious and plentiful food, especially the mango yogurt. However, the place was loud, and service was slow, likely due to the crowd. Worth a visit for the food, but be prepared for some noise and a wait.

I had been there again for a year and it almost hit me. The restaurant has increased its prices by a whopping 30%, while reducing the portions. The ambience now resembles that of a snack bar, as so many tables have been squeezed in that you are almost sitting shoulder to shoulder with the people sitting next to you. This makes it very loud and uncomfortable. After 20 minutes we were served for the first time, but then at 8.15 p.m. the bill was placed on the table without being asked (cash payment only). And that even though half the restaurant was empty. The food was good, but was lacking. It's a shame, it used to be the best Afghan restaurant in Munich.

Food normal, waiting time too long. Waited almost an hour. Juicy prices, the starter took a long time. First we had to make keklamiere.

Came here for take-out. CASH ONLY Taste was good, service was nice. However, 26€ for a tiny portion, come on! You‘ll get better value for money basically anywhere else.

The food is really exceptionally good and the service is very quick. Unfortunately, the tables are far too close together and the noise in the restaurant is unbearable. We could only hold a conversation with difficulty. Otherwise we would have liked to stay longer.

Luckily we had a reservation (Saturday evening) because it was (justifiably) very well attended. There is a great selection of food, the food was prepared quickly and served hot, and it was simply delicious. Highly recommended store :)

Very tasty food, but service unfortunately not that good. We made a reservation, but there was still a place missing, it was very dark, and the fake candles on the table didn't help. And the two of them weren't very attentive, we often had to ask if we could order something else and then we were told we had to leave because the table was reserved, but when we asked, it wasn't reserved after all. In addition, paying in cash is also very unfavorable given the prices, and we didn't know where the nearest ATM was either.

Wir waren zu zweit da und waren in Summe sehr zufrieden. Als Vorspeise hatte ich eine Suppe mit Nudeln und Hühnerfleisch, die geschmacklich sehr gut und reichlich war. Als Hauptgericht dann 2 x Kalbfleisch, die 42 und die 23 (Spezialität des Lokals) - beides auch geschmacklich sehr gut und große Portionen. Die Karte ist sehr umfangreich, der Service ok und Preis-Leistung für die Lage in Schwabing auch gut. Da muss man mal afghanisch gegessen haben, das ist sehr gut.

Ein echtes Geschmackserlebnis in gutem Ambiente und mit klasse Service! Der Besitzer ist sehr herzlich und ein echter Gastgeber, dem es spürbar am Herzen liegt, dass es dem Gast an nichts fehlt. Wir hatten eine Variation quer durch die Karte bestehend aus verschiedenen super leckeren Speisen! Gerne jederzeit wieder ... eine absolute Empfehlung!

I have to say, most food options seem and taste actually good and are rather sophisticated. However i had ‘narendj palau’ which was just plain rice, sweet tomato sauce and some lamb meat. It was just bland, without any identity and came in a small portion. I paid 24eur for this plate. It was extra disappointing after seeing and tasting my friends’ plates which were amazing. To the owners: you need to either rework this plate or decrease the price to around 15-17eur, which can be fair given there’s lamb meat( which is the only thing worthy of eating in this dish at the moment.)

Ooooh, was für ein leckeres Essen. 🙏 Ich wohne direkt um die Ecke und wurde einfach noch nie enttäuscht. Im Gegenteil, jedes Mal ein Highlight. Auch für Vegetarier geeignet. Alle Gäste denen ich mit Chopan die afghanische Küche eröffnet habe, sind begeistert 🤩

Das Essen ist einfach himmlisch. Geschmacklich ganz klar das beste, was München zu bieten hat. Vor allem das gegrillte Hühnchen, besser geht es einfach nicht! Mein Mann und ich kommen regelmäßig und immer wieder schmeckt es unwahrscheinlich gut. Aber: Bitte kümmert euch um eine Kartenzahlungsmöglichkeit!

Wir hatten gestern einen tollen Abend bei euch! Es war super, das ihr für uns einfach verschiedene Gerichte auf dem Tisch gestellt habt, sodass alle von allem probieren konnten. der Mix aus verschiedenen Fleisch mit Reis und Gewürzen und Beilagen und Schärfen war sehr gelungen und es war für jeden etwas dabei. Sehr herzlich wurden wir bedient. Wir kommen gerne wieder und ich kann es jedem empfehlen der hier mit Gruppen um die 10 Personen Essen gehen möchte.

Alles gut soweit. Es wird nur dringend empfohlen, im Voraus zu reservieren, da man sonst keinen Platz bekommt. Desweiteren muss man berücksichtigen, dass die Zeit zum Essen beschränkt ist.

Hervorragendes Essen Aber wieso steht in Maps dass Kartenzahlung geht wenn das nicht der Fall ist? Keine Kartenzahlung anzubieten, ist auch nicht verständlich

As always amazing food and service. Only problem being space. Cramped and no leg room to relax and have a meal. But the food is so good that we go back each time. Plus they are pet friendly so extra brownie points for Chopan!

Waren das erste Mal afghanisch essen und echt begeistert. Die Gerichte waren unfassbar lecker und auch die Atmosphäre und der Service haben gestimmt. Die #27 ist definitiv eine Empfehlung Wert. Außerdem sind die Portionen echt groß und das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis daher passend. Immer wieder gerne!

Last visit there was short, had only their starter with pumpkin, and it was brilliant! In other visits, I tried a few other vegetarian dishes which were all delicious!
