January 3, 2026, Munich ~ Visited Schweinshaxe. I don't usually eat meat, but the Schweinshaxe here was delicious. The atmosphere was great, and the waiters were friendly. I had a wonderful last dinner in Munich. Later, I found out it was a famous restaurant. 👍 Wow.

If you avoid peak lunch and dinner times, you can experience truly delicious haksen! The signature golden crust and moist interior are so memorable. Many reviews say the haksen is charred and hard, but if you go at an odd time, that won't happen. I also saw that the haksen at a table near me was perfectly cooked.

Not suitable for people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease. We called ahead to ask if the pork knuckle would be grilled gluten-free, for example, without beer. This was explicitly confirmed over the phone. It's worth emphasizing again on-site that cross-contamination is also ruled out. After my daughter spoke to the waiter again, the pork knuckle was served without sauce and dumplings. Unfortunately, there was still gluten in the food, and she now has severe stomach pains. It's a shame; there was no need to ask beforehand, because as someone with celiac disease, you have to be able to rely on honest information and careful preparation in a restaurant kitchen! A tip: The pork knuckle grill around the corner manages to do a gluten-free job perfectly!

A first visit – but definitely not the last! It was our first time at Haxnbauer – and what can we say? We were absolutely thrilled! The pork knuckle was simply outstanding: melt-in-your-mouth tender meat and a crackling that's truly legendary. This is exactly what you imagine a perfect pork knuckle to be. The accompanying potato dumplings were superb – light, flavorful, and just right. We were also pleasantly surprised by the children's menu: the kids' meals with schnitzel and pork knuckle were really good, top quality, and a big hit. Another real highlight was the Haxnbauer Duet – absolutely delicious and highly recommended. In short: A thoroughly successful first visit with fantastic food and classic Bavarian cuisine at its finest. We'll definitely be back! 🍻

A Wiener schnitzel with potato salad from a bucket for €39 is definitely too expensive. A typical tourist restaurant with arrogant waiters. You have to put up with being called "mush" by the waiter just because you speak standard German. Sorry, but someone's clearly not in charge of this place!

Years ago, I went on a training trip to Europe with my colleagues. We used the holidays to eat and drink our way through different countries. Good pork shank (no longer the best in Munich in my opinion), beer arrived without foam, waiter speaking Italian (Eastern European origins), truly unprofessional, swearing in Italian during service, requests for Italian customers to stay at their tables so as not to seat other customers, my beer arrived without foam and very carbonated, my partner ordered a soft drink and the waiter laughed at her order... We ordered an appetizer, requesting it be served before the main courses, but instead everything arrived at the same time. I think he's the worst waiter I've ever encountered. Personally, I'll never come back here. There are better places...

Ones of the best pork knuckle in the city. Best to make a reservation during lunch and dinner timing as it can get very crowded. Or go before or after the peak dining time. Sauerkraut is a side order and they have a pretty good one here. Pork knuckle is crispy and if you order a whole one they will bring a few for you to choose from. Sausages are also very good. Well worth a visit if you’re in the city.

I went NYE 2025 for some pork knuckle with my 2 teenage daughters and wife. We did book a table for 8pm prior to our arrival and when we arrived were placed at a table in a side room which had non of the atmosphere of the main room. So we asked if there were tables available in the main restaurant, which the waitress said she would see what she could do, following which we were promptly moved into the main room. We opted to share four mains. A small pork knuckle, fried fish with potatoes, beef cheeks, and the Singapore chicken. We were going to order just the 3 mains but the waitress said it probably wasn’t enough, so we added the pork cheeks which were really good. It was however a lot of food and we could not finish it all. The waitress we had serving us was attentive, friendly, and while we were surrounded by tourists it still felt very authentic. Plus the Italian family sat next to us were delightful. Oh and of course I had the litre of beer which was great also!

We went to five authentic Bavarian restaurants during our visit. This was the least good. Service was poor, grumpy waiters, long waiting time. The haxe was ok. The käsespätsle was really bad. The meatballs was decent, but they looked non-appealing. The wursteplatte was also least good of the five.

The food was amazing. Don’t bother with the Veal Knuckles. We tried the Pork and Veal Knuckle Duo and the star really is the Crispy Pork Knuckles. We had to order a full one of this because it was that good. I’m not a fan of the potato sides which were very gelatinous so we ordered fries. The Apple flambé with vanilla ice cream dessert is excellent. We enjoyed our time here but it took too long coz the wait staff was overwhelmed and forgot some orders. Poor guy was just trying his best.

Terrible service, the receptionist acts like he's doing you a favor by getting you a table! Service 0, organization 0, everything is zero! If the receptionist at the door is a middle-aged man with black hair and glasses, frustrated with his life and job, you might as well turn around and leave because stress and humiliation are guaranteed! The haksen was delicious, comparable to the pho. The skin was golden and crispy, and the meat was tender. The veal was a bit dry, so I think I could have just eaten the haksen. The radler and draft beer were both delicious. The server was very friendly. When she saw that I was searching in Korean, she spoke to me in Korean. She said she had lived in Seoul and Busan, and when she saw the coleslaw, she said it was Bavarian kimchi. Anyway, the haksen was delicious.

I had visited in 2022, and the pork knuckle platter for two people left a deep impression on me—juicy and perfectly seasoned. I was saddened when I saw the restaurant was closed for a long time afterward in 2023. Recently, I discovered it had reopened after renovations, and I eagerly made a reservation, hoping to try it again. However, the experience was extremely disappointing. Not only had the price increased, but the portion sizes had also drastically decreased (picture one is the platter for two from 2022; pictures two and three are what I ate today). The taste was also incredibly bad, a complete disaster! The beef knuckle was bland, and the pork knuckle was excessively salty. Furthermore, even after we explicitly stated we were students, the waiter (who didn't actually offer any service, such as asking about our cravings) still solicited a tip, which infuriated us. I will never go there again and will try my best not to recommend it to anyone. Good memories can only live on in memory!

The place looks wonderful, but the service was very disappointing. While many German restaurants have waiters that don’t check on you or revisit your table, it seems worse in a very tourist-oriented restaurant like this one. When you order, make sure you know exactly what you want as you might not see your server for 2 hours.

Aside from the slightly lacking service in the menu, ordering, and payment processes, the overall experience was pretty good. The braised pork knuckle was really delicious. If you have a big appetite and come to the restaurant alone, you can order the pork knuckle and sausage; you can finish it but won't feel too full.

I just watched the Meat Man YouTube video, and the quality of the meat is quite different from the video. The exterior isn't golden, but dark chocolate-colored, and it's too hard, salty, and flavorless. It's even more expensive and less tasty than the food sold at the summit of Zugspitze, 2,600 meters above sea level. The exchange rate is already so bad that it's even more noticeable, haha.

We were here recently and shared a large Haxenbauer (pork knuckle) platter with three pretzels as a starter. For our main course, we each ordered half a pork knuckle with a dumpling and gravy. Both the starter and the main course were really tasty. However, we would have preferred a larger dumpling with the half knuckle, as the menu advertises a "large potato dumpling." In my opinion, it was a standard size and not a "large dumpling." A shame! But all in all, the service, food, and beer were good. Recommended.

It had been a long time since I'd experienced such terrible service. The waiter refused to serve my partner and me, prioritizing the other tables around us (one table even ordered, ate, and paid before we could order). We waited half an hour to be served (even though the restaurant was practically empty), and we had only ordered drinks, so we decided to pay and leave. We wanted to try some typical Bavarian food, but the awful service made us not want to stay. In the end, we waited another 15 minutes for the bill, and the manager had to come when the other waiters realized we hadn't been served. In short: I don't recommend it.

I went with my partner, and the waiter was still serving the next table when he came to take our order. To begin with, he started speaking to us in English, even though I speak German, which suggests the place might be a tourist trap, but whatever. When I ordered our food, he told us to wait, that we'd get our drinks first, and then call him on his Italian phone (?) (we're not Italian). He never came back to take our order, and after a while, we decided to leave without eating. We waited even longer for the bill, and the manager had to come over. When the first waiter finally came to collect the payment, he came in saying "what's going on?" in a very bad mood and then said it was my fault because I was too distracted talking to my girlfriend (?). First of all, his job is precisely to be attentive to the customer's needs. Secondly, we'd been trying to call him for half an hour, and I don't think it was necessary to get up and look for him to order (which would be very rude, in my opinion). In the end, he charged us rudely while muttering things in Italian (I repeat, we are not Italian).

Read reviews that this place is famous for its pork knuckle dish (Schweinshaxe) and it indeed lives up to its reputation. The meat was tender with a delightfully crispy skin. We also had a really friendly female waitress attending to us and recommending to us dishes. She was also kind enough to accommodate my request to replace the sauerkraut to fresh salad which I greatly appreciate. We had a pleasant time here enjoying good food and great service, highly recommend it!

If you have a non-German name you'll sit right at the back of the restaurant in the 'foreign section'. You're not worth of sitting in the heart of the restaurant. Furthermore the waiter who serves this section is extremely unprofessional unwelcoming, seemingly angry to have to serve us, and missed some of our orders. The food is still excellent. But after last night I won't return. We were clearly second class citizens in this restaurant. Shame.

I came here after watching "Carnivore Man" on YouTube. Since I had a hard time finishing a Schweinshaxe at another place last time, I ordered the duo...? menu (Schweinshaxe and veal). The Schweinshaxe was definitely tastier than other places, but I think the incredibly tender veal was even tastier. It was so good that I'm considering going back the next day to try the veal. You should definitely try the veal, and the coleslaw is really, really good. It's so refreshing.

Great authentic German pork knuckles and sausages. Note that is not the regular mashed potato, but some springy gooey version which I didn't take to. Place was full and most ordered their pork or venison versions. Had a great (Tiger) Radla lemon-flavoured beer. Do make a reservation.

We recently visited Haxnbauer and had mixed feelings. The positives: The pork knuckle is truly excellent – crispy, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Definitely a clear recommendation! I would personally prefer the pork knuckle to the veal knuckle; it was simply a touch better. The ambiance is modern Bavarian and very pleasant. It wasn't too loud, so conversation was easy. The service was impeccable: friendly, attentive, and courteous. The big "but": The drink prices are absolutely exorbitant. €5.70 for a half-liter of beer might be acceptable given the location, but €7.60 for 0.75 liters of water is simply outrageous. I know that restaurateurs primarily make their money from drinks, but selling a bottle of Adelholzener, which costs about 70 cents wholesale, for ten times the price is simply unacceptable. The positives: The drink prices are absolutely outrageous. Conclusion: I would gladly give 5 stars for the excellent food and great atmosphere, but the drink prices prevent me from doing so. Nevertheless, if you're prepared for the prices, you'll be served a first-class pork knuckle. To the owner's response: Thank you for your reply, but your argument about the price comparison doesn't convince me. The fact that other downtown restaurants charge similarly high prices for water doesn't make it any better; it only shows that this practice has apparently become common in the restaurant industry. However, that doesn't change the fact that the price remains exorbitant. The motto "everyone else is doing it" can justify many things, but it doesn't legitimize them. The fact is: you're selling ordinary mineral water for about ten times the purchase price. The customer opens and pours the bottle themselves, so there isn't even any significant service effort involved. This margin on a basic product like water is and remains, in my opinion, outrageous, regardless of what the competition charges. Your cuisine and ambiance are first-class, but precisely for that reason, a fairer pricing policy for water would be a sign of appreciation towards your guests.

The positive is that the pig haxe is really good, actual crispy skin. The service was prompt and courteous. They were willing to switch the usual knödel ball for a hash brown for me as I requested. The downside is there was no sauerkraut or any kind of salad or greens with their haxe meals, you have to order them as sides separately. It only comes with a potato knödel ball and some sauce. And everything aside from the pig haxe is very average tasting. Also the haxe was pretty small, it was only half a portion for 22 euros.

I came here today with a great mood, wanting to eat roasted pork knuckle. The atmosphere was nice, the food was delicious, the roasted pork knuckle was fantastic, and the price was reasonable at €32.70. My Japanese friend also enjoyed the meal, so it should have been a very satisfying experience. However, the entire meal was ruined by the extremely rude attitude of one of the servers. When we entered, we simply asked, "Can we take away?" (We had called beforehand and they clearly said yes), and even translated what I said beforehand to make sure she understood. The server responded with a very disrespectful "Huh?", completely lacking the most basic courtesy expected of a service industry professional. This immediately ruined my mood. To avoid any misunderstanding, we confirmed again that takeaway was indeed possible, but we still received a very impatient response, as if to say, "Why are you asking me?" For a restaurant server to treat customers this way is truly incomprehensible. Later, I want to especially thank the kind Chinese-American guy who patiently helped us translate and communicate. But what was even more frustrating was the rude waitress, who also appeared to be of Chinese descent, yet showed absolutely no friendliness, instead radiating inexplicable coldness and disdain. When it came time to pay, the problem became even more absurd. The restaurant clearly stated that cash, Alipay, Apple Pay, and other payment methods were accepted. We had unfortunately forgotten our bank cards, thinking we at least had cash. However, the waitress simply said: "Cards only." How can a restaurant in Germany operate on the principle of "cards only, no cash, no mobile payments"? Does that mean customers without cards have to go without a meal? This is not something that would happen in normal business operations. Luckily, a friend had a card and paid for us. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to get a meal at all, which is truly incomprehensible. The food was really good, but the poor service ruined the entire experience. I hope your restaurant, especially some of the waitresses, can provide proper training in basic professional etiquette. Working in the service industry with a discriminatory, impatient, and disrespectful attitude towards customers will only create a negative impression. Unfortunately, this experience was completely ruined by that waiter's behavior. I hope the restaurant will take this issue seriously and prevent future customers from experiencing the same treatment.

I was very disappointed with my visit. My coffee was served in a visibly dirty cup, with a chipped rim that could even hurt the lips. When I asked to have it replaced, the server reacted very poorly and unprofessionally. For an establishment like this, one would expect at least basic cleanliness and professional service. I visited Haxnbauer for the first time 9 years ago and despite the venue change and the years that have gone by, the food and service was just as good. It was a very busy Saturday night, although the queue was out of the door, I was seated quickly & there was not a long wait for beer or food. If you visit, and I recommend you do, have the Pork Knuckle 😋

This was my first time in many years at the new Haxnbauer in the valley. I wasn't exactly disappointed, but the atmosphere at the Scholastikahaus was definitely special. The pork knuckle was okay. Top-notch. But nothing special. The service was overwhelmed (the older gentlemen at the old location were sensational). Unfortunately, when I ordered a whole pork knuckle, they didn't offer me a choice (like they used to). So: you can go there. But the good old days are sadly over.

We went to the inn for dinner around 6 pm. The waitress was very friendly, and our drinks arrived quickly. However, the atmosphere wasn't cozy. There was a strange green light, and the place seemed untidy. After a long wait, the food was only mediocre – a medium-rare steak was overcooked. Later, the inn filled up, and the cold atmosphere disappeared. But I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a cozy dinner.
