Löwenbräukeller - Das Original in München

This is one of the most well-known beer houses in Munich. It was a pleasure to drink a beer we already enjoy in person. If you're curious, stop by.

Good food good beer. Service was a bit slow but I can be impatient

The layout of a normal beer house is normal, the dishes are normal, and the service is not full. However, five people have to squeeze into a square table. There is a group of five people sitting at a long table behind us. They kept asking if we had finished eating. I don't know why. I think there should be better options. The band played the birthday song at the next table, and the atmosphere was great.

We had made a reservation by phone. From the outside, it looked like what you'd expect from a typical Bavarian brewery. Unfortunately, the inside isn't. But that's a matter of taste. We were given a table in the middle of the hall, only to be told we were fully booked. Our listless waiter took our drink order. 2 Maß (literally "liter") and 2 Radler (shandy), but we got 2 Helles instead of Radler. Okay! The food order! It took about 3 minutes, then the industrial kitchen food arrived. Haxe (roast pork knuckle) and roast pork with rosemary potatoes. They came with potato salad. Swap! Yes... The food was mass-produced, the meat was all fat, the knuckle was dry and tough. After that, the waiter disappeared. But we had the house musicians right next to us for a brief chat. Oh, by the way, the hall was 1/3 full. Sorry, that's not what we were looking for. We don't recommend it.

It was a brilliant experience from my side. It was Oktoberfest and luckily by the time I arrive there were still some seats available. Classic traditional German restaurant with lots of traditional drinking options and German food. Ambiance was super. Service was very good. There was a traditional live music by the time I was there. I had schnitzel and lowenbrau original. Recommended.

The ambiance is typical of a brewery, and the service is quick and attentive. The food (goulash) is mediocre—very tough!

We had a class reunion with 40 guests here, and everything was perfect: it was beautifully set with snack boards, the room was ideally sized, we had a great time chatting (when the brass band wasn't in the room ;-)), the service was prompt and genuinely friendly, the food was delicious, the beer flowed, and it was just lovely.

It was bustling and wonderful during Oktoberfest. The Schweinshaxe was just okay, and the beer was delicious. The atmosphere was great.

We had beef goulash and the grilled sausage platter. Unfortunately I don't have any photos. We're from Leipzig or Munich. It was great to show someone from Leipzig the fantastic Bavarian food culture. The beef goulash had a fantastic sauce. The dumplings were incredibly tasty and the meat was very tender and soft, with great muscle meat. The price was unbeatable for the quality. A really fantastic meal. The location was fantastic for the middle of Munich. We sat outside in the beer garden in the most wonderful October wind. The service was very quick. Unfortunately no photos of the dishes. I did take photos of the picturesque location. The lion in Bavaria at the Löwenbräu can't be missed.

Lowenbrau makes an excellent Dunkel and the Keller is welcoming with its historic look. Unfortunately, the staff is not so pleasant. They seemed to be annoyed with having to work and were often seen arguing with each other. I like Löwenbräukeller but be prepared for the staff difficulties.

We had spontaneously reserved a table, but when we arrived, we were greeted with a very rude welcome. Even though it wasn't full, we were turned away. The unfriendly waitress/server didn't bother to take our reservation. I've been there a few times before, just for a beer, and the waiters were pretty awful. I don't recommend this place, and I won't be going back!!!!!

Visited in May 2025. I was looking for a beer hall and decided to visit after seeing the good reviews! I enjoyed German beer and German food!

If you go to Munich, this is a place you must experience. The taste of real beer, the food of very high quality, and the restaurant's luxurious atmosphere make it a place where couples and families can have the best experience.

Sunny Miami is the best guy in town! He is an awesome server and he sure knows how to party! Lowenbraukeller was perfect even with our party of 30 people. 100% recommend and can’t thank them enough!

We had the best time. Our waiter Marko was excellent! We had a wonderful conversation with him. He answered all of our questions. He spoke great English!

Outside the building is nice. Very traditional in shiny yellow. Inside we were placed at a 6 people table. The light was dark. The menu card was available in English. The dish was not tasty but very expensive. I ordered apple juice but got water with apple taste. I expected a tourist trap and got not disappointed. Come here for taking pictures, to experience the Biergarten, keep your money if your hungry and go to a real restaurant.

This is a traditional Munich beer hall, one of six major breweries licensed to serve beer during Oktoberfest. The cuisine features classic Bavarian specialties: pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe), sausages, pretzels, poultry dishes, and more, all accompanied by Löwenbräu beers. The interior is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is warm, while the Biergarten (beer garden) is particularly pleasant in summer.

I wasn't familiar with the place. A typical Munich beer hall with its original brewery behind it. No party. Adequate. Otherwise, uneventful.

What a disappointment... long wait... the most expensive beer hall in Munich... I had to complain to the waiter several times to get the bill... the Munich beer halls in the old town are much better.

authentic Bavarian experience - awesome beer and strudel

Unfortunately, you have to give at least one star to even be able to rate. The venue is unfortunately completely overwhelmed with the events they want to host. The 2018 Veterinary Medicine Graduation Ball was unfortunately ruined by the Löwenbräukeller's catastrophic organizational incompetence, after what had been such a wonderful day up until then. How can you set up a buffet for around 1,000 people that's laid out like a maze? Unfortunately, most people had to wait in line for at least 30 minutes. The first dishes were cold by the time their plates were halfway full. The most outrageous thing, however, was that the buffet was booked until 11 p.m., but closed before 10 p.m. The only thing that went really well on the organizer's side was the drinks distribution; the beer glass was already removed and a new one offered before the old one was even empty. Guys, that was an absolute disaster.

Marko was the best server. Awesome food. Haven't eaten German food in YEARS and ended up eating more than I should have. 10/10

I was shown to a table by a very unfriendly "waiter," and when I immediately wanted to order a beer, I was told, "Someone will come and take your order." I then sat there for 30 minutes without any of the staff paying any attention to me, let alone being served. I was really hungry and thirsty. When I finally called for attention, the waitress pointedly turned away. I haven't experienced such poor "service" in a long time. I left and will certainly not waste my time there again. A very unpleasant experience with this kind of "hospitality."

Too noisy if you do not get drunk.

Today we ate at the Löwenbräukeller for the first time. A very friendly waitress named Yasmina welcomed us and recommended roast pork with cabbage and cheese spaetzle, which was very delicious. I would definitely recommend it.

Unfortunately, we waited 45 minutes for service. Despite several different waitresses and waiters coming by several times, our order wasn't even taken. It's a shame, but we'll eat and drink somewhere else.

I'd been sitting there for almost 45 minutes. No one came over to take our order. One waitress said, "A colleague will be right there," but nothing more. Really disappointing, since I was told it was pretty good there. Unfortunately, I didn't see any of that.

We were a group of 50 people, and honestly, the service was terrible. Unmotivated waiters and the food, well, that's a matter of taste. As a guest, you're practically brushed off, and that doesn't exactly create a welcoming atmosphere...a real shame. With that in mind, cheers!

Unfortunately, the visit was unsatisfactory. You don't feel welcome here. Hospitality doesn't look like that.

Unfortunately, our visit to the Löwenbräukeller with a group didn't meet our expectations at all. You're literally rushed off the counter so you leave as quickly as possible. The service seemed to be based on the motto: "Be glad you're even being served." The lady in particular was extremely unfriendly and even tried to lecture us about ordering several things at once. Do we now have to conduct a survey in a group of over 30 people before we dare to order? :’-) . When water, beer, and other drinks arrived, they were simply passed from the opposite side of the table, making it impossible to reach them. So, all guests were expected to help the waitresses. No thanks! If you don't want to work in the waiting area, you should leave and instead water plants or pick up the soil, but please don't do anything that involves guests. The appetizer was really good, but the other courses followed so quickly that there was hardly any time for a break. Dessert was simply slapped down on several people, even though they weren't even seated. They didn't even ask if they wanted a coffee or something similar. There are plenty of nice restaurants in this city, but I will definitely avoid this one in the future.

Warning! Don't eat anything here... the only good thing was the beer. The liver dumpling soup was inedible, the sirloin was hard and dry, the baked potato was almost cold and tasteless. The knuckle of pork was also not good. The worst meal we've ever had.

A lovely beer garden a little ways out of the hustle of Munich City Centre but easily accessible by public transport. We didn't eat but the food looked good. I would go back but preferred some of the other beer halls/gardens in Munich such as Augustiner Keller or Hofbrauhaus.

The best Bavarian restaurant in all of Munich. Truly unbelievably delicious pork knuckle. Highly recommended!

It was a great spot on the way to the hotel, so we still had a nightcap on the way home. The roast pork with dumplings was a real treat: two nice slices and a delicious sauce (unfortunately, way too much for a retiree). Unfortunately, they don't offer retiree plates anywhere anymore. And, of course, delicious Löwenbräu.

By far the best beer in Munich. The Dunkel is exquisite; you can have several in a row. The atmosphere and decor are incredible. The food is of very high quality. My partner and I sat down, placed our order, and in less than 10 minutes, our dishes were on the table.

According to the website, the self-service beer garden is open until 11 p.m. in good weather. Unfortunately, the pub closed at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (weather permitting) without prior notice. So, unfortunately, we weren't able to have a last round. At 10:30 a.m., the staff sent us away because they were closing. It's a shame, because we were actually celebrating a birthday. We'll go somewhere else next time.

Whenever I,m in Munich I visit this beer hall whenever I can.The food is always first class and on Sunday 24th August I was fortunate to have Sertac as my server.He took time to make me feel welcome and ensure I was well looked after.A great choice of feed and outstanding service together with great beer. Ordered the traditional German pork knuckle (17eur) and German sausage (13eur), which was reasonably priced, generous in portion, and mediocre in taste.

Incorrect financial handling. On a second visit, I was confronted about not having paid the night before, even though a colleague had come to settle the bill. On the third night, we were simply charged €5 too much.

Came here to enjoy a beer, the pork knuckle looked absolutely massive, But delicious.

Unfortunately, the food was abysmal. Extremely over-seasoned, and even a day later, I was still terribly thirsty because of the food. A tourist trap, I'd say: go there once and never again.

It's a bit outside the historic center, but I ate much better than at other pubs and paid much less. You can also eat outside. I also liked the beer better, but that's a matter of personal preference. Recommended.

Terrible service. What happened to beer halls in Munich? It's okay that it's not tasty, but you can just talk to them like human beings. Waiters take a long time to come up to you, and when they do come up, they make a really unpleasant face, killing the whole mood. I don't recommend this beer hall to anyone. And they don't warn you that you only pay in cash, but if you don't have cash, they'll bring you a terminal without any problems, but the price will be twice as high🤷‍♂️ that's such a brazen deception. Europe is going in the wrong direction, this is just barbarism.

Food: Classic Bavarian, nothing special. Service: Waiters get annoyed when you come just for a drink. Otherwise, okay. Atmosphere: Pushy musicians who should pay more attention to their intonation and stop begging for money. Otherwise, it's on a busy street, which you can hear.

A bit expensive but the food was ok.

I went to eat at a German beer brewery that even Japanese people know about. As expected, it's a famous, historic establishment, so I was shown inside the restaurant, told that the beer garden was full. I was shown to a seat by a large white woman. When I asked for the food, she kept saying things like, "Sorry, our order wasn't taken!" and ignored me for over 10 minutes even though I asked for the bill. Even though there were hardly any customers in the restaurant, I said, "Stop ignoring me!" and she finally brought the food and charged me a 10% service charge.

Historical and lovely place with wonderful decorations and totally German style interior. What bothered me a bit though was the vibe of some of the waiters… there was something going on in between the staff and it kind of transmitted to the rest of the space… they were arguing and having bad vibes… it didn’t match the wonderful cozy setting unfortunately. It’s a pity as a restaurant is so much about how the staff is feeling genuinely and it really shines out to the guests. Some of the staff could not speak with the German or English 100%, which was also kind of awkward. It needs to be said, though that some of the staff were really friendly. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back in the near future if they don’t exchange some of the staff so that all of them can meet the expectations of basic goodwill and friendliness

Absolutely outstanding, stylish, and cozy. Very competent, friendly staff, prices are absolutely reasonable, and the beer is delicious, as befits Bavaria.

Overall, the worst dining experience in Munich. We were there at lunch with a reservation. The beer garden is really nice and spacious. The waiter greeted us, showed us to our table, and was distracted/almost unfriendly from the start (more annoyed, 10 minutes after opening). We had hoped for the Weißwurst special, but they're no longer available due to the changed opening hours starting at 12 p.m. We asked for everything to be ordered individually because we wanted to eat Weißwurst for the first time in Munich. My husband and I ended up with two Weißwursts (we actually wanted two each), two pre-packaged mustard sachets, and a beer each, both of which were poured a good 2 cm below the fill line (mine was even lower). The food was rather mediocre. Our son's pork knuckle was good, the rest... When we asked how best to eat the Weißwurst, the waiter laughed and said, "Skim off the skin and eat it"... yes, thanks. Our daughter's Leberkäse was simply greasy, just like the fried egg. An absolute tourist rip-off.

The best beer and typical German food in a spectacular festive atmosphere with a band constantly playing around the tables...

First off, the food wasn't bad, but there were too many poop flies in the outdoor beer garden. There must have been at least 20 of them, so I had to constantly stir my hands, making it difficult to eat and making my stomach churn. When I finally paid, instead of clicking on the exact number of items I had ordered, they just calculated it roughly. The bill was 2 euros more than I'd paid, and when I later asked for a receipt, they said it was too late (they clearly saw the amount when paying and there was a tip option, so I didn't accidentally add a tip). They re-scanned the three items and beer, and only after confirming the 2 euro difference was paid did they give me my cash back. They didn't apologize at all and just dismissed it as a joke, which was very uncomfortable. I won't be back, and the owner needs to train his staff properly. First off, the food didn't taste bad, but there were too many poop flies in the outdoor beer garden. There were at least 20 of them, so I had to keep stirring my hands, so it wasn't just hard to eat; it was upsetting. When I made the last payment, I didn't exactly click on the food I ate, but it was just rough. It cost 2 euros more than I paid, and when I asked for a receipt later, I told them it was already late (I certainly looked at the amount when I paid and there was a tip to choose from later, so I didn't add a tip by mistake). I had to take a picture of 3 foods and beer again, and they returned it to me in cash after confirming the difference of 2 euros. It was very inconvenient to pass it like a joke without any apology. I have no intention of revisiting, and the boss will have to train the staff straight.

I can't recommend this restaurant because I was deceived by the final bill. Two additional drinks that I didn't order were included in the bill. I only found out after I had paid myself (not a preliminary bill) and asked for a detailed bill, which wasn't brought to me immediately. The money was refunded, but afterward, there were no apologies or explanations. It's a shame that such a good restaurant with a world-famous name left such an impression. I came here to get a good mood and left disgruntled. The day was ruined for me and my friends, who had flown in from America and whom I had taken to this restaurant to taste the beer. The beer, by the way, was delicious.
