Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it at the moment because, following repeated requests from staff, the beer garden is only open from 3 p.m....and that is in the middle of July...sorry, that's a no-go...in good Bavarian...a...........

A well-known beer garden in Munich. The food is very solid and better than in other Munich beer gardens, and prices are typical for a beer garden. The atmosphere is pleasant. A children's playground is available.

Review – Augustiner Beer Garden Munich On Friday afternoon (July 11, 2025) at around 3:30 p.m., we visited the Augustiner Beer Garden behind Munich Central Station with a group of seven men. The beer garden was sparsely attended at that time, with many tables empty. Reception and Seating: The waiter (last name: Hain) greeted us and asked if we could sit at a previously selected table. We were denied without further explanation – it was reserved for regulars. Instead, we were directed to another table, which we accepted without comment. Dealing with the Rain: After ordering our drinks, we asked the waiter for an umbrella, as the weather forecast predicted heavy rain shortly. Our request was declined, stating that umbrellas were reserved for regulars. We pointed out that several umbrellas were unused in the beer garden. Nevertheless, he refused to give us one – he failed to provide a factual explanation. When the rain started and quickly turned into heavy downpour, we asked for an umbrella again – this time the refusal was communicated even more rudely. Since we were now soaked, we took an unused umbrella ourselves. The waiter then ran up indignantly and snatched the umbrella away from us. An emotional outburst from our group to the waiter was inappropriate in this situation, but the waiter's reaction was completely over the top: He came back, grabbed one of our guests by the shoulder, and aggressively confronted him about the situation. Further escalation: We announced that we wouldn't tip – the waiter immediately brought the bill. Nevertheless, we ordered another round of beer and – contrary to the situation – even tipped. When the beer was served, someone in the group commented ironically that he had gotten it anyway. The waiter then took the beer he had just served back without comment. At this point, the situation was no longer tolerable. We left the beer garden together and went to the neighboring beer hall. Conclusion: The waiter's treatment of us as guests was unacceptable – rude, inflexible, and ultimately even physically abusive. With the beer garden empty, a looming storm, and our generally polite demeanor, there was a complete lack of hospitality. The escalation by the service was neither understandable nor excusable.

Reserve for inside. Biergarten open. Food good and plentiful. Biers ONLY in Mass - 1 liter.

The beer garden is really nice, you can sit comfortably and get great food. We only got something from the self-service menu, so I can't rate the actual service. The self-service itself was impeccable and super fast.

My favourite of all times, nobody should miss the Augustiner even if u r in Munich for 24 hrs ...

We went there for dinner on May 18th and found a pleasant atmosphere in a historic restaurant in the city. A must for anyone seeking good local cuisine without too much luxury. The place was small, and the waiter, with shaved eyebrows, was very nervous and made us pay for dessert, which we didn't eat.

If you want to experience Bavaria, come here. Munich's oldest brewery. Great atmosphere, loud, hectic, yet somehow cozy. Service is a bit gruff but quick. Prices are absolutely reasonable for Munich.

The beer lives up to its name..absolutely excellent! The place itself is great and there are also many food options available if you want to eat with beers. Only downside was the waiter’s attitude toward foreigners, which wasn’t the best. Also, skip the pretzels/bretzels they’re way overpriced. I was hoping for draft beer, but they serve it straight from the bottle, which was disappointing.

First beer garden visit of my holiday to Munich. Followed some 10/10 Reddit advice to skip Hofbrau and come here instead. Great atmosphere. Had a laugh with some locals, people working were very friendly, and most importantly, the beer was brilliant. Visited hofbrauhaus the next day out of curiosity, wish I’d just come here again.

The restaurant is decorated in an antique style and has a great atmosphere. There are waiters at the door to lead the group, so you don't need to find a seat by yourself. It doesn't take too long to wait for the waiter to take you to your seat on non-holidays. The outdoor dining area is spacious and lively, and there is also a band playing. The outdoor and indoor atmospheres of the same restaurant are completely different. The meals are all above standard, mostly German, and seem to suit the appetite of locals, but I think the pickled cabbage is too salty for Asians. The meal portions are small, so boys with big appetites should order more.

I've been to the Augustinerkeller beer garden several times a year. For me it is without doubt the best beer garden in Munich. The reason I can't give it 5 stars is the food. I don't understand why they have to skimp so much on quality. I had the currywurst today and I have to say I've never had a worse currywurst sauce in my life. It's unacceptable that they use an industrial product that has absolutely nothing to do with a good currywurst sauce just to make a profit. And unfortunately the currywurst isn't an isolated case. The sausage salad is a disaster by Bavarian standards. The fundamental problem here is the quality of the cheese and sausage. The whole of Munich values the Augustiner brewery. Please ensure that it stays that way.

Worst restaurant ever in munchen This was the worst restaurant I've ever visited in Munich 1. When I walked in, I said hello~ There were two of us and I asked if I could come in, but they kept asking why I was there^^ They said they didn't know if I was here to drink or eat, and asked me to tell them the purpose of my visit, saying how could I let them in 2. Poor hygiene (I recommend you go) 3. They left the food while banging 4. There was only one Asian person there, and they never asked me how the food was, and they kept passing me the food without looking at me, and they didn't even give me sauce on the sausages^^ When I asked the friendly-looking employee, he said he should have given me someㅋㅋㅋ Even though the beer was empty, they didn't even ask if I wanted more Your experience may vary depending on the employee, but compared to the Hofbrewery I went to yesterday, this was really bad

We were there with a large group of about 60 people. There were four waiters assigned to us. Unfortunately, the waiter at our table of nine people kept getting the drink orders mixed up when repeating them. We tried to correct him, but he kept saying it wrong until we finally gave up; it was pointless. The food was good, but definitely too little for the price (Munich schnitzel for €19.95). (Two thin slices of 4-5mm meat and about a ladleful of potato salad/roast pork, which you had to search for in the sauce.) The beers weren't filled to the gauge line. Not even the non-alcoholic one, which is probably poured from the bottle. Next time, I'd go back to the Augustiner Bräustüberl.

I had lunch. However, beer is the main drink. You can smoke at your seat, so it might be a little difficult for people who don't like it. The food is quite generous, so be careful about how much you order. I think it's too salty for Japanese people.

A typical Bavarian restaurant that not only serves one of Munich's best beers but also some of the best food. The pub and the beautiful banquet hall are a true addition to Munich's traditional pubs. Many Bavarian events also take place here. Update 2025: Portion sizes have become significantly smaller and more expensive, and the food has generally deteriorated considerably. Example May 2025: Roast pork with two small pieces of 7-8mm thick neck ridge, a separate piece of inedible rind because it was much too hard, a small potato dumpling, and a small bowl of red cabbage/or coleslaw for €17.90! (Example photo). The whole thing drowned in a brown, extremely thickened restaurant sauce. The same goes for the small knuckle of pork. A real shame for the six of us. Only the beer and ambiance are still good. The service is still very attentive.

The food was okay, but the price/performance ratio wasn't right. Two mini schnitzels with a handful of fried potatoes for €27.50 is pretty steep. But okay, it's Munich... Still, it feels somehow wrong to leave a restaurant hungry. What was absolutely terrible, though, was the service. It took 3.5 hours from the time we sat down until the food arrived, and there was a wait of at least 30 minutes for each drink. Something is seriously wrong here.

This was our first meal in Munich as it was super near and conveniently located next to the Central Bus Station. The food was decent with a nice spacious dining area. However, service was HORRIBLE. We couldn’t understand why the waiter had to pack everyone to be seated in a long table where there was clearly more than enough empty tables available. From what we observed, when customers requested to prefer a table for themselves the waiter seems to be annoyed and seems unwilling to seat them. We were given attitude by the waitress which served us the moment we said we weren’t ordering drinks (especially beer). She acted like we were a bother. We felt that she was too ‘pushy’ with her service. To make things worse, when we chose not to leave a tip due to the poor service, she raised her voice at us expressing how it is unacceptable. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable behavior. We came in expecting a nice meal, but left feeling disrespected. Moreover, from the same waitress, the old couple seated next to us were too being ‘forced’ to order more when they clearly said that they had small appetite and were planning to order dessert. She didn’t seem to care and insisted they ordered what she think they should order. The service is overall disappointing, making the overall experience unpleasant.

This is the classic German Biergarten. The food we ordered was really good and beer is some of the cheapest in Munich. Lots of people and lots going on.

I am not german. The waiter in this restaurant told me that in germany culture you cannot call the waiter. Just waiting for the waiter to ask you what you want. So, how to do if you want to order something? I saw other germany people call the waiter. I try to send the signal that I want to order something. Nobody service me. So, it is very sad to me. May be this restaurant is racist .If you are asian, don‘t come to this restaurant. They won’t welcome you.

As an American tourist, it was everything I was hoping to experience at a BeerHall / Biergarten - laid back but lively atmosphere, good food, good beer. Kids welcome. Servers in durndels and lederhosen not cliché; it just is. If we had wanted to sit for several more hours, that would have been fine.

I visited this place for a company event, where we had food and drinks in their cellar. The food was nothing special, meat from fatty side with a lot of salty bread and pretzel. I did not like the atmosphere because the facility was not improved to host so many people in a cellular in terms of air quality and noise. I could almost not hear my own voice while I was talking. The staff was not friendly or likable, and they seemed to be like they were working there because they had no better options. I felt like I was treated by German "Beamtes"

Nice ambience in the middle of the city.

We visited Augustinerkeller around 11.30am on Sunday 15th June. We got a table in the huge Biergarten which had started to fill up and the atmosphere was beginning to ramp up. The order was 3 Steins of Augustiner Edelstof and and Edelstof Radler. For anyone who has tried and enjoyed Augustiner Helles 5.2% AVB, the Edelstof might be described as it's bigger brother. The Edelstof weighs in at 5.6%. Served straight from the wooden barrell, this unfiltered Helles is as smooth as silk. This liquid gold must be tried by any lager/beer lovers who want an upgrade on their current favourite 🍺 If you are lucky, you will see the changing of barrels, which is pretty cool. The Edelstof is served in the outdoor canteen area of the bierkeller where mouth watering food is on display, almost forcing you to grab some. The good news is, Augustinerkeller is a five minute walk from Munich Hoptbanhof. If you arrive at the station and your hotel check-in is an hour or two away, pop your cases in a locker in the station for 4 euro and get yourself up for your Edelstof. Enjoy.

A place with atmosphere. Good beer and pretzels. The ground is covered with crushed stone. I recommend dirt-resistant shoes or those that you don't mind, washing the dust off the shoes was a challenge.

I've been searching for hell in Munich for a long time, and here I've finally found it. Extremely aggressive attitudes from the waiters, and even worse, from the entire management. Nobody here seems to have their job under control. Unprofessional treatment of paying customers is part of the basic training here. Chapeau, I've never experienced anything like this before.

We've never been treated worse in a restaurant. The waiters are extremely aggressive. Guests were shouted at in front of us. If you only serve tourists, you can afford it...

Because every waiter is paid based on their performance, completely irrational decisions are made. Zero service orientation and a snotty manager. Profit is the main thing. Once and never again.

Three of us arrived at the beer garden. We sat at a table without an umbrella and with only a few leaves over our heads. Just as our food arrived, it started to rain heavily. We tried to sit at tables with umbrellas or to join them. Since these tables were all in the "territory" of other cellars, we were denied them. Guests were even instructed that no one was allowed to sit there. They claimed it was reserved (it wasn't when we asked) or told us outright that we weren't allowed to sit there - rain or shine. There were plenty of seats available, by the way. When we asked, we were told that this was because the waiters receive a share of the revenue - thus, we weren't welcome in the other "territories." Only thanks to our very nice waitress were we able to eat our food in the dry. With a lot of effort, she managed to find us a table and seat us at other guests' tables. The fact that we and our food got wet didn't bother our colleagues, who had plenty of seats under umbrellas. Other guests felt the same way.

I visited in the evening for dinner with a large group of colleagues (10+ people). I ordered the pork shank with a potato dumpling and a bretzel. The portion and bretzel were both very large. You would need to be particularly hungry to finish them. I enjoyed both, although I found the bretzel slightly too salty. Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant interaction with a server. Later in the evening, he refused to serve beers smaller than 1 litre, even though they were listed on the menu and had just been served to two other customers right in front of us. His response was quite rude and came without any explanation.

The Augustiner Keller on Arnulfstraße, centrally located near the main train station and Hackerbrücke, isn't just a beer garden or a restaurant for me – it's a Munich institution and an absolute must for anyone who wants to experience the true Munich way of life. The moment you enter, you immediately feel at home. The atmosphere is simply incomparable: You sit comfortably together under old chestnut trees in the spacious beer garden, the cheerful chatter and the aroma of freshly tapped beer and hearty delicacies fill the air. Here, tradition meets warm hospitality. The freshly tapped Augustiner is at the perfect temperature and a delight every time. P.S.: The non-alcoholic beer, which is often regularly sold out, is also available. A special highlight that you shouldn't miss is Fischer Vroni's Steckerlfisch, which is grilled over charcoal. The crispy, juicy mackerel and salmon trout are a treat every time and, in my opinion, the best grilled fish you can get in Munich. They also serve a wide selection of classic Bavarian dishes such as chicken, pork knuckle, Obatzda (traditional Bavarian gravy), sausage salad, and Kaiserschmarren (a kind of pancake). And all at fair prices, which isn't always a given in Munich. The service in the waiting area is always friendly, attentive, and quick, even when the (many regular) tables are packed. Whether with friends, family, as a couple, or even alone – the Augustiner Keller is the perfect place to spend some relaxing time, unwind, and enjoy the Munich way of life. As a local, I always enjoy coming here and can recommend it without reservation. An absolute highlight in Munich that you shouldn't miss!

A large event was being held by the employer, so it was held in the hall. The waiters were friendly and the dessert was delicious. The only downside: when we went to the bathroom during the break, our drinks were cleared away, even though there was still something left in everything...

We had to try the landmark restaurant on our last night in Munich and it did not disappoint! It’s very filling and delicious but heavy foods. We tried the dessert too and it was all family approved. We tried a variety of traditional fare and the vegetarian mushroom dish was my favorite

In classic tourist fashion, we went to the Augustiner-Keller and got exactly what we expected. A brewery that serves a large number of people. But still with decent quality. We sat in the puppet theater, the assigned waiter came quickly, and we quickly ordered drinks and something to eat. The price for a liter of beer was still reasonable at under €10. The appetizer (broth with noodles) was okay. The main course (shank of pork and roast beef with onions) was both delicious. However, the price for the roast beef with onions was quite high for the relatively small portion. Overall, 4 stars are fine. You get what you expect, the food is okay, and the prices are generally reasonable.

I was impressed by the size of the beer garden. With so many guests, my first thought was, "Would I have to wait long for food and drinks?" No, I didn't have to wait long. The service was fast and the food was very friendly. Delicious food. I'd be happy to go back.

We visited the Augustiner Keller a few days ago and were thrilled. Even though we hadn't booked and it was very busy, the staff member ran around the beer garden until he found a seat for us (the two of us) in the table service area. Our server was very nice and friendly, even though he was very busy. The food was surprisingly good considering the quantity served there. An all-around successful experience!

The way the waiters demand tips there is absolutely abysmal. We gave the standard 10% tip, and the waiter said we needed more if we wanted to come back, and then he ignored us for a while. It's disgusting how low we've sunk to accept such service in Germany.

After we politely asked for more drinks, our request was simply refused – for no comprehensible reason. The way we were spoken to was unfriendly and inappropriate. I often come to the beer garden here, but yesterday's visit was a disaster: wilted chicken because the service couldn't keep up, and the kitchen piled all the food under mobile heat lamps - sorry, but that was cheeky!!! I like this spot a little further out of the main tourist area. Definitely a win if you are around the hbf. Solid Helles and Dunkel. A small but mighty schweinhaxe, knudel was a fair offering, but their sour kaut was unexpectedly stand out. Heck I would go back just for that! Servers were kind, just seat yourself in the main hall. Don't expect English (also, you are in Germany, try German), do expect prompt and polite service. Do expect authentic vibes, do expect kind locals!

The Augustiner beer garden is a true Munich original! Beautifully shaded under old chestnut trees, it offers a cozy atmosphere and a true taste of Bavarian life. The beer – as always fresh and drinkable – and the snacks go perfectly with it. A great place to relax, whether with friends or family. A definite recommendation for everyone.
