Hafenkater Kloster What can I say...the food is delicious as always. I don't need to post pictures, you have to experience it for yourself. The burgers are also super delicious. I had cod, which was delicious as always. Right on the harbor. Another great experience all around. See you in 2026 😉

Just the right thing for a quick snack!

We've already had the classic fried fish with fries. The food is exceptionally delicious and the service is friendly.

Delicious fresh plaice with a Hiddensee wheat beer... followed by a slice of sea buckthorn cheesecake for dessert... And all this after a sunny, warm autumn hiking day on Hiddensee in the most beautiful weather...

What happened?! 😏 We were always very satisfied with the food and service. But now? The fries are off the shelf, the food is almost cold, the service... well, it's okay. Self-service is okay, but always having to pay for everything immediately, even when you're sitting inside? How can that make it cozy? We've given up. No coffee, no second tea, no dessert for the kids, and significantly less tip than usual. Please get this under control, okay?

The soup cost a lot of money for little taste

A lovely restaurant located right on the harbor in Vitte. The self-service option is certainly due to the extremely tense staffing situation. The drinks are delicious. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, the food is more like a fryer than well-cooked, resulting in very greasy and oily food. This could be improved considerably.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and enjoyed it. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is friendly. The cat lady behind the counter serves quickly and remains relaxed even when it's busy. There's no waitress, but that's not unusual in Nordic restaurants. We knew it from Denmark and Sweden, among other places. And the other local restaurants operate the same way. The food is excellent (we tried the burgers). Large portions and really tasty. Full marks 👍😊😎

Well, the fish sandwich was okay, but the price was pretty high. Especially since the Polish, or other foreign, staff weren't exactly motivated, so I wouldn't go there again. It was all self-service, meaning zero service, so you had to queue and wait. Abnormal.

Friendly staff and good food. Ordering and payment are done at the cash register. The restaurant is located right on the harbor. Extra tip: The "KLEINER KATER" (small cat), pictured, for two people is not only delicious, but even enough for three. At least it was perfectly adequate for us and our seven-year-old son.

We can't understand the good previous reviews (mostly from 2024). The location is positive, however. The terrace is pleasant. The food, on the other hand, is not enjoyable. The herring tasted like it came from a supermarket jar – just sour, with over-salted, mushy fried potatoes and a carelessly dressed salad. I felt a bit nauseous afterward. Unfortunately, due to a lack of contact, this cannot be communicated. The others had fried fish that tasted of nothing. The remoulade with both dishes was indefinable and also seemed to have come from a can. Only the French fries were acceptable. For this, and for a self-service concept, the prices are unreasonable! Not again!

Highly recommended! We visited the Super Wurst Bude yesterday afternoon, located to the right of the entrance to the Hafenkater restaurant. They used to sell delicious fish sandwiches, but now you can enjoy tasty hot dogs and a variety of sausages. I especially recommend the Sea Buckthorn Grilled Beef – a truly unique flavor combination! The best part: Even the kids loved it! I highly recommend this restaurant – a definite plus for Hiddensee!

A drier burger, with regular onions instead of fried onions. Well, if you're going to cut back on service and raise prices, the food should be flawless. Unfortunately, that's not the case! What a pity.

Great service and it tastes very good

Fried fish to die for. With delicious fries, salad, and remuage, it's soooo delicious :-) It was spontaneous, but I absolutely recommend it!

An all-round successful experience. The fish sandwich was super delicious and freshly topped. The sandwich was great, and the combination of cucumber, onions, lettuce, and remoulade was perfect. My best fish sandwich so far on Rügen and in the surrounding area!

Now, I'm definitely not a big fish eater, but the fried fish was amazing. Highly recommended. It's been said a hundred times that you order at the counter here. So, we're in the middle of the season here, and everything was served within 20 minutes. Great! Oh, sorry, no photo, I inhaled it too quickly 😇

Self-service drinks saves staff, but costs a lot of time and does not make beer from the tap cheaper

Unfortunately, the food was not of great quality. The fried fish was over-fried, and the breading fell apart into thousands of pieces while eating it. €18.50 is unfortunately too expensive for that. The potato pancakes for the kids were, unfortunately, frozen and not freshly prepared. We wouldn't go there again and wouldn't recommend it.

Thank you so much for opening the restaurant a little early in the heavy rain and saving us. The BBQ burger with Öhe beef was excellent! A super friendly, pleasant team. The menu is great, so it's hard to choose. Self-service is also a good idea and not at all disruptive. Everything is super fast. Definitely recommended!

Beautiful view right on the harbor. Self-service is the order here, but anything that isn't immediately available will be brought to your table. We had the fried fish and the fish burger, both with fries, and the portions were very generous. The fried fish arrived 5 minutes and the fish burger 7 minutes after ordering, and both were delicious. On really sunny days, the shady spots are very popular :)

Very tasty food, but they charge a €2 surcharge for substituting fries for fried potatoes, which is very annoying. For this reason, we won't be eating there again. Our children don't like fried potatoes, and we've never had to pay a surcharge at any restaurant before. It's a shame that they lose customers like that.

A very nice place with very friendly service. The dish called Scharfer Käpt'n is fantastic! These are slightly spicy and slightly sweet herring fillets, with a nice balanced flavor, served warm on potato pancakes with horseradish sauce and vegetables. Simply superb. The salmon with baked potatoes and broccoli was also delicious. Overall, I recommend both the place and the dishes mentioned.

A true favorite spot on Hiddensee! The Hafenkater in Vitte is always an absolute highlight for us on the island. The staff is exceptionally friendly, courteous, and attentive – you immediately feel welcome and well looked after. The cleanliness of the entire shop is also impressive; everything is lovingly and meticulously decorated. The food is outstanding – made with love and truly delicious! The cocktails and drinks are creative, high-quality, and highly recommended. Whether a cool drink at sunset or a good glass of wine with dinner – everything just fits here. We would also like to particularly emphasize how grateful we are for the commitment of Mr. Schilling, who has created great places on Hiddensee with a lot of passion and a sense of quality. Without shops like the Hafenkater, Tante Hedwig, the Rote Haus, or Schilling's Hafenamt in Kloster, the island would definitely be lacking something. These places bring life, style, and joy to Hiddensee – and we always enjoy coming back. Thank you for these great places – please continue.

Very, very good food. Even the fried potatoes and broccoli tasted better than anywhere else. Highly recommended. And right on the harbor.

Beautifully located on the Vitter harbor. A pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. The food (salmon/broccoli/fried potatoes and hamburger schnitzel/fried potatoes/side salad) was excellent. The restaurant itself is self-service, meaning you order your food inside and it's brought to your table. We'd be happy to return!

Self-service restaurants with frozen ingredients at top prices. You can certainly eat worse on Hiddensee, but nowhere else is the gap between price and quality so great.

A small, cozy restaurant right on Schaprode's harbor. Orders are taken at the counter and brought to your table. You're greeted with a "meow." If you want to know why, you'll have to go there yourself 😜 A huge selection of fish dishes, but the burgers are also highly recommended.

Everything was great 👍, a great alternative to the other run-of-the-mill restaurants on the island.

A few salads, a delicious BBQ burger, and so-called hangover sandwiches (a kind of pita sandwich). Located right on the harbor, with a nice outdoor area.

We had a very good meal here; everyone enjoyed it, and the service was always friendly. I especially like that they also accept card payments! There were crayons and a harbor cat for the kids to color in. The decor is very original and looks really great. We'll be back on our next visit to the island!

We were here once in the afternoon and had a cappuccino, hot chocolate, and two slices of poppy seed cake. Everything was to our complete satisfaction! Our second visit for dinner was also very pleasant. The quality of the food is very good. The attentive, friendly staff deserves special mention. The service is well organized. We'll be getting a delicious fish sandwich on our last day! Highly recommended!

Best burger and fries far and wide

The fried fish was delicious, and the staff were very nice and friendly. The blonde waitress was super nice. You have to pamper her so she'll stay. It's a shame we can't come more often. 👍👍👍

We were thrilled with the great food and the team. The concept was a bit unsettling at first, but after a short time, it was just right. We'll be back.

The large fish platter was a disappointment 🤮. The supposedly fried cauliflower was just steamed and still cold inside 😡. To create the illusion of bulk, the thick stalks of cauliflower were served with it, and yes, they were cold and hard. The fish and potato wedges were okay. What a shame...☹

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture again, but the spicy salmon is divine! The bun that goes with it is fantastic! You can tell from the empty plates that there's nothing left! Thanks!

We visited twice and were pleasantly surprised. The concept is the same as at the Hafenamt in Kloster, but the menu is slightly different. We had fried fish burgers, regular burgers, herring, and schnitzel. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. The service was very friendly and attentive. The marzipan cake is also highly recommended. We'd be happy to come back.

Fish rolls are sensational, says my wife, especially other rolls. Unfortunately only self-service, but that's ok too. When visiting Hiddensee, I can only recommend a visit here!

The location is really very good. The lady behind the counter is really amazing, funny, friendly and warm. The sea buckthorn cheesecake is highly recommended, the fish dishes are also very tasty, only the rice pudding wasn't that convincing. But not everything can suit everyone. Of course the design is also a little feast for the eyes :D We will definitely come back.

You can't get a fish sandwich here after 5. Dramatic

The only nice thing about this location is actually its location. No service because it is self-service. The food selection is very clear. Comparatively expensive. I had soup and salad. Both come pre-portioned in glasses from which you have to spoon it out. The salad was exclusively cabbage and beetroot. No recommendation.

Furthermore, a great, relaxed, family-friendly "haven" for eating and drinking, food is very tasty, fresh, the atmosphere is hospitable, relaxed and creates an enormous holiday feeling, people watching, enjoying the view, sometimes the peace and quiet sometimes busy and all age groups certainly feel at home, always happy, the staff relaxed, confident and always friendly.

Very nicely located in the harbor. The restaurant is right on the water and you can enjoy the great views. We ordered a small fish platter for two - it was simply huge! What bothered us was the baking dough. We prefer natural fish to fish baked in the deep fryer. The whole thing was tasty and the sauces were very good as a side dish. Very long queues for self-service.

All very good. There's nothing to complain about there. If it weren't for the prices. This is really no longer understandable and no longer worth paying for. Very unfortunate. Bringing a bottle of wine and drinking it on the beach is also fun. Too bad.

Everything just fits here! Great food, friendly service and cozy restaurant. Yes, customers have to order their food at the counter and maybe wait 10 minutes for their turn. But no one should stress on vacation and the wait will be rewarded with great drinks and wonderful food. We recommend fish & chips, the fish soup and a sea buckthorn wheat.

After so many good reviews, we were really looking forward to the visit but were a little disappointed. Facility and location: very nice. Service person: very nice. Apparently alone and does everything: take the order, collect the cash, bring drinks and food to the table. This means everything takes longer. When it's really crowded, I wonder how long the line is. The food was ok, nothing more. Fish soup: wasn't that great, too salty for my taste and the fish was unfortunately very dry, but there was plenty of it. Fish roll with Bismarck herring: was a little different, quite large Giabatta roll with a strip of fish, plenty of cucumber and onion. Little fish in relation to the rest. The fish actually tastes so good, but is completely lost in this roll. And then there was tartar sauce on it too... why? The Remou tastes good, no question about it. But on fish sandwiches? It doesn't have to be that way for us, but you could have possibly unsubscribed. Fish & Chips: the fries, chips & tartar sauce were the best. The fried fish: taste really good, fish juicy. But unfortunately the breading was very uneven and mostly very thick, in some places loosely 1cm and then very soft and also extremely greasy. Estimated ratio of fish: breading = 1:2. The side salad: various leaves of green lettuce, some of which are already wilted, followed by a beetroot salad, old sprouts and 3 half cocktail tomatoes. Price-performance ratio: rather bad.

It's right in the port of Vitte. Accessible from the monastery only on foot, bicycle or horse-drawn carriage. Of course, you should first take the ship from Schaprode to the island of Hiddensee.

The best food I ate during our vacation on Hiddensee. The cocktails/long drinks were also very tasty. You can sit very nicely both inside and outside. The furnishings are modern, tasteful and tailored to the cat theme down to the last detail. The waitress was also super nice and funny. We would come back at any time!

The two burgers, one of which is said to have been made with water buffalo meat, which there is no doubt about, were tasty, although the price was quite high at over 20 euros. The restaurant itself only needs to be assessed visually, but the packaging for self-collection is very specific. There is certainly nothing to add to the photos. That's not how you do it, unnecessary, unpleasant. Do you also serve like this in the restaurant?? There are clearly deductions for this. The staff was otherwise nice, the location at the harbor and centrally located in Vitte.

If you sit at the table for ages and no waiter comes, it's because you have to order the food yourself, but it will be brought to you. But from the beginning. We spent a really wonderful day on Hiddensee and wanted to end the evening with a nice meal before the ferry took us back to Wiek. Parked the bikes at the ferry dock and looked for a restaurant. There was a free table here so we took a seat. After what felt like an eternity of waiting for a waiter to diligently bring food to the tables, I happened to see a sign on the door (we were sitting right at the beginning of the terrace, far from this door) telling us to order yourself. Well, I would place this note at the table. There was only a QR coder here that led nowhere. So 2 of us went in while the rest waited at the seat, because there was now a long line waiting for a free seat and we didn't want to give up ours. So we decided what everyone would eat. The lady taking the order was really friendly, there's nothing to complain about. We got the drinks on a tray straight away. Getting this to the table in one piece was a balancing act as you had to weave past the line of people waiting to order and the line of people waiting to be seated. The food arrived in less than 15 minutes and was fantastic. The prices are hefty but I think that's what the island brings with it, things have to be brought here somehow.

Self-service with a little waiting time...

Shortly before the ferry left we wanted a fish sandwich. We were able to order at the counter in a relaxed manner and quickly had what were probably the best fish sandwiches in Rügen and Hiddensee. Absolutely recommend getting a fish sandwich there. We were very excited and certainly weren't there for the last time.

Gute Lage, keine Bedienung am Tisch, wenn man öfters Nachfragen hat (Gläser, Besteck, Speisekarte) wird einem das Gefühl gegeben, dass man nervt. Essen viel Fritiertes und teils sehr fettig. Ingesamt kein tolles Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Wir fanden es hier früher besser - schade!

Without question a great concept, great furnishings, nice and friendly staff. The food is delicious. But why is there only one person who takes the orders?? She did it in a very relaxed and funny way, but the queue was very long. You could think about it again.

The location is very nice and fits the island very well. Right on the harbor, great location! The prices are a bit too high for self-service and the quality of the food. The menu mainly consists of fried food (better fast food), there are few healthy alternatives. Even the vegetables on the side are dripping with fat. The drinks, in turn, are original and delicious! We'll still come back, simply because it's a beautiful place with a great view ;-)

Relaxed atmosphere, food delicious and not run of the mill. Burgers mega-sized, fried fish fluffy, potato chips in an unusual style. When the weather is nice there is a large terrace.

What's particularly pleasant is that you can order inside and the food is brought directly to the table, which makes the service even more efficient. The prices are a bit higher, but the generous portions definitely justify the expense. Overall, Hafenkater is a recommended place for anyone who wants to enjoy good food in a pleasant atmosphere.

Very tasty food. We had the fish burger, the schnitzel and a hangover sandwich with salmon. Everything was really great, especially the fries were exceptionally good. Rather expensive and unfortunately self-service, which wasn't 100% understandable given the number of waiters. But still an absolute recommendation.

The ordering process takes some getting used to. After a long descent, you don't really feel like standing in line and waiting. In addition, it wasn't clear to me at first glance how the ordering process works, which is why I almost sat down... but it could have been a long wait. The food was solid in a nice atmosphere. Due to the virtually non-existent service, there were no tips. You have to pay in advance anyway.

In times of a shortage of skilled workers, a sensible concept of self-service...the prices are borderline...portions large and tasty....
