Food was very good, service wasn't super fast, but it was super friendly!

We were here again for dinner tonight. A lovely, rustic restaurant. Very delicious, flavorful food, prepared with great care. Super friendly service...you wish for that everywhere. It's such a shame that it's closing soon!

Great family-run pub. The Sauerbraten is absolutely amazing and was awarded the best Sauerbraten in Meissen. It's highly recommended. Thank you, and we'll be back.

A quaint and cozy restaurant in the heart of the old town, where you feel like you've been back in the day. The service was attentive and quick, and the food (goulash, red cabbage, and dumplings, and plenty) was delicious. All in all...we were very satisfied and can highly recommend this place.

We arrived in Meissen around noon. Before going to the castle, we happened to notice this shop and timidly walked in, where we were greeted with a lovely smile. I forget the price, but it wasn't that expensive. We ordered by looking at the menu using Google Photo Translate and then pointing at the items. It was delicious. I recommend it.

Small but perfectly formed, a real insider tip when you're in Meissen. The food was truly amazing and incredibly delicious. It's not very big, so you'll definitely need a reservation, but the atmosphere is fantastic.

The prices are very good, but... no one seems interested in the customer. The staff practically avoids the room and the customers. There's no English menu, written in Swabian, which makes it very difficult to read. The food is good, but probably microwaved. We ordered Meissen wine and only learned 10 minutes later that we wouldn't get it because they were out of stock. The tone is reminiscent of communist Poland. You'll feel like you're in communist Poland—customers are intruders.

If I'd been alone, I would have kept saying, "Wow, that's delicious." I still did, but not as often ;) We were very, very happy with the food; we had goulash and sauerbraten. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic. The service was very friendly and quick. Thank you for the lovely evening!

The food here was typical home cooking, exactly what I wanted, and very tasty! The prices are very reasonable for the size and quality of the dishes. The only thing that could be improved is that the staff needs to be friendlier and more proactive; you're often left alone for a long time, unable to order.

We were here in June 2025. Small, cozy restaurant with a small outdoor seating area in the courtyard. An inn with authentically cooked dishes. I didn't notice any convenience food. My photo shows the dark beer goulash with dumplings, which was excellent. The food, service, and atmosphere were good. We didn't find the inn to be a tourist trap and will be back.

If you're ever in Meissen, it's worth eating there. Good, traditional German cuisine. The food was tasty, reasonably priced, and the service very friendly. But not for much longer, as the manager is retiring at the end of the year. What a shame!!! We'll see, maybe the next Italian restaurant will open then. There are only four in the old town.

Quaint restaurant at the foot of the Albrechtsburg, German cuisine, friendly staff, we could sit nicely in the back garden, I can only recommend booking a seat :-)

Absolutely recommended! The best Saxon sauerbraten I have ever eaten. And the buttermilk lentils as we know them from before. Very cozy, small inn. Very nice and quick service, very attentive. Reservation is essential for a guaranteed spot! The prices here are also right. We would definitely like to come back.

Simply great... food like grandma's time. Everything is fresh and homemade and, in contrast to other restaurants, great prices. Small, but very cutely decorated, beer garden in the inner courtyard. Service is very friendly and on the ball. Unfortunately this location is closing at the end of this year.

You get 💯 points just for writing to the Meißen public order office about flower pots in front of the entrance. I hope your objection is successful... This raises the question of whether local gastronomy is still welcome? In my opinion, definitely yes. We also liked to go to the Green Tankard for dinner. Before the fall of the Wall, people were regulars there. Don't let yourself get down. All the best to the Ziegs family team.

Very cozy old style pub. Great food selection. I tried the spots (tripe). Super delicious. My wife chose the cured tongue. And this dish was fantastic too. It's a shame it will close in November. The boss is retiring. Until then, definitely go there! But booking in advance is a must!

An für sich gemütlich,gute Weine und Getränke, urig eingerichtet. Essen völlig unzureichend und überteuert,gefüllte Paprikaschote ist eine Halbe mit etwas Linsen und etwas Deco wie kleinster Salat,alles im Allen ,weder satt noch froh für 18€ ,Materialeinsatz für ca.2€.

Unfortunately there is virtually no vegetarian selection - even on the salad plate there is still bacon in the fried potatoes.

You have to experience a wine festival in Meißen. Especially at Café Ziegler. Always great atmosphere.

We were there for the wine festival and drank Federweiser and ate a little something. Federweiser was very, very tasty. Highly recommended, we will be back soon.

The location of the “Green Tankard in Meißen” is nice, but the offerings on the menu do not meet my expectations. We had planned to go there for a spontaneous meal with the family, but the menu posted outside contains mostly dishes with animal products. Unfortunately, environmentally friendly, cruelty-free and healthy food does not seem to have been included in the offering there yet. It would be desirable if traditional dishes were increasingly offered without animal products in the future, as this is playing an increasingly important role these days.

Wir sind im Rahmen unseres Wochenendausflugs nach Meißen eher zufällig in diesem Lokal gelandet. Wir haben einen Platz in dem kleinen aber sehr gemütlichen Innenhof bekommen. Wir fanden das essen sehr gut und die Priese sind absolut fair. Das Meißener Bier vom Fass ist extrem lecker und gut gekühlt. Für uns war es ein absolut schöner Abend in diesem Lokal und wir können das Lokal sehr empfehlen.

Nice little garden, really a nice but also unfashionable restaurant. Service okay, food really not good. Black beer sauce had nothing to offer in terms of taste, just spicy. The red cabbage was a complete disaster. I also passed this on to the waitress. Unfortunately no response. Food was completely deducted from the bill. Now the restaurant is in the middle of the tourist area. Maybe you no longer have the customer in mind that much.

Amazing place! Very recommended if you are on your way to or back from the Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen. We got to sit in the small yet beautiful courtyard which was very peaceful and quiet. The food was very good. We had the hunter's schintzel (pork) & salmon with noodles. We also were served small salad plates on the house which were very refreshing. The prices of the plates are very good, between 8-17 euros average. The waitress was very kind, even though she didn’t know english.

Called spontaneously and got a table for 3 people. Food, drinks and, above all, the friendly service made the trip an experience. Can only be recommended. 😊

Super nice atmosphere. We sat in the beer garden, which is really pretty. Unfortunately, contrary to expectations, the quality of the food was completely inadequate. The meat was dry and tasteless. The side dishes were also very tasteless. In addition, the microwave could constantly be heard in the kitchen, which would explain the taste. The price of the restaurant suited us, but unfortunately it was very disappointing for us due to the good reviews and the appearance.

Beautiful, rustic restaurant with a great outfit. In the middle of a very beautiful district town, such a gem with exceptionally inexpensive food fits perfectly. Four of us went on a short vacation and were completely thrilled.

Great value for money. Sauerbraten with bread dumplings is recommended. BUT (small thing, but annoying): The Ramazzotti (the ice cream in it) tasted like a freezer and the two complaints didn't lead to a replacement, or rather it was simply ignored. This leads to a significant point deduction! It would have been a small thing to excuse myself and get a new drink with fresher ice. It annoyed me incredibly! Saxon friendliness?

Quaint restaurant, friendly service, good drinks, well priced

The steak was overcooked and the fish pieces were overfried. Only the French fries and fried potato wedges that came with it were okay. Only German menus are provided, and the waiters don't understand English, so communication when ordering is a bit difficult.

An inconspicuous restaurant in Meissen... I found it by accident but I ate very well in a quiet place outdoors... I recommend it

Wenn man reserviert hat man Platzgarantie. Keines Restaurant mit gut bürgerlicher Küche. Die Bedienung ist alleine für Service und Tresen verantwortlich, deshalb etwas Geduld mitbringen. Sie macht es durch ihre freundliche Art weg. Leider ist auf Grund der deutschen Digitalen Infrastruktur nicht immer Zahlung per Karte möglich.

Today we had dinner at the Green Tankard, one salmon and one pork loin steak au four. It tasted great and the service was very friendly. Everything was clean and furnished, like an inn should be. Great, absolutely recommendable.

Ostalgie pur. Schnöde Einrichtung, überschaubare Speisekarte mit einfachen Gerichten zu günstigen Preisen in überschaubarer Qualität und einfachster Tellersprache. Dazu eine gequält freundliche Bedienung spiegelt den lausigen Charme des Hauses wieder. Wir günstig satt werden möchte und keine Ansprüche stellt, ist hier richtig. Geschmeckt hat es ja.

Went to dinner at the Green Tankard, very good food, great value for money. The restaurant itself seems a bit cold, but not bad. The young lady who served there could get more tips for herself if she were a little more relaxed, didn't just smile obsessively and didn't just stubbornly do her job. Otherwise highly recommended.
