Bad luck this time! Large salad plate? The chicken breast was just strips, the baguette was a bit stale, the white bread slices, and the tomatoes in the salad were probably made in Holland. Disappointed, that was awful. Went there again today, and the portions are getting smaller and the prices bigger. Fries with lots of black spots and then only a child's portion. I think that's it, we'll find another restaurant.

A very nice guesthouse, located below Albrechtsburg Castle and directly on the Elbe River. The road running past the house is barely noticeable thanks to the modern windows. The city center is just a short walk away. The staff is super friendly! And the food is fantastic! We'd love to come back!

We were only here for dinner. A very nice atmosphere (boatman's pub style, view of the Elbe), with friendly staff and very tasty food. Another plus: Hot meals served all day (11:00 AM - 10:00 PM) during our visit to Meissen. Highly recommended.

The service was a bit unfriendly at first, at least that was our impression. But they quickly became very attentive and friendly, and even more so to our little son.

We spontaneously stopped by for lunch on the weekend. It was very quiet in the early afternoon, and the drinks and food arrived quickly. We ordered two beers, spiced meat as a starter, and tongue with croquettes and buttered vegetables, as well as a large mixed salad with chicken as main courses. The spiced meat was interesting – I'd never had it before and it probably won't be my favorite, but you have to try everything at least once. The salad and tongue were good – I just would have liked a sauce to go with it, as with just the croquettes and buttered vegetables it was a bit dry, but overall it tasted good. The young lady serving was also very friendly, and the price is absolutely reasonable. You can do it.

We ate in the restaurant, which scores highly for its food, service, and value for money. You also get a large portion for your price. The service is courteous but not intrusive. Its location right on the Elbe Cycle Path also makes it very attractive for cyclists. The courtyard is quiet, which makes the home-cooked food taste even better. The rooms, can't, can't, be rated.

We celebrated my wife's birthday here with a large group. The food and drinks met our expectations. As the evening progressed, we were very rudely escorted out. Our request for another bottle of water was declined with the comment, "There's still plenty on the tables." Ultimately, we had to rush through the place in our festive attire, dismantling everything. Some of us were on our knees. See photo. The owner promised to call back to clarify the situation, but there was no response. Conclusion: Certainly recommended for a casual dinner, but not suitable for a more elaborate celebration or client presentation.

As almost always, we found this restaurant based on recommendations here. :) A very interestingly decorated place, almost every corner has something to do with a blacksmith, just like the name of the restaurant. The food is traditional German, the dishes are simple, the portions are huge. If we ever go to Meissen, we will definitely visit again. The only limitation is that they do not accept cards, only cash, so stock up on euros

We stopped by the "Alte Schmiede" in Essen while passing through. The seating in the small, leafy courtyard is lovely, and the interior is also quite quaint. The service was fast and friendly. The food—we had aspic with fried potatoes—was okay, but not a highlight. While the aspic and fried potatoes were still edible, the supposed remoulade was a disaster and didn't complement the dish at all. The sauce wasn't based on mayonnaise, as is usual, but was made with quark (!). That's an absolute no-go, and the flavor doesn't match the dish at all. The chef should reread the recipe. Nevertheless, we were overall satisfied.

Good food, very nice quiet courtyard.

I was just eating there with a friend. At first, they asked for patience because of the crowds, but after an hour, they told me they'd forgotten. I find it a little cheeky to pay almost €20 for frozen vegetables. I ordered the vegetable variety.

During a stop on the Elbe Cycle Path, we stayed at the Alte Schmiede for two nights. Dinner in the cozy courtyard was excellent. The breakfast buffet, served until 10 a.m., was lovingly prepared, fresh, and varied. The room was spacious with excellent mattresses, clean, and with a historic flair. The walk into the city center was a stone's throw away. We enjoyed the direct, unobstructed view of the Elbe, which made the noise from the main road outside easier to bear. We definitely recommend it.

I was invited to lunch today. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately, my food was way too salty. What a pity. The fish plate is just as big as a kid's plate (schnitzel, fries, vegetables). What a pity.

This evening we spontaneously stopped by the old forge and although everything was occupied during the week, we (luckily) managed to organize two places! The team is simply great! The service was super nice and the food was super tasty! We as Hessians felt very comfortable!

Coming from the Baltic Sea, we spent 4 nights in the guesthouse. The room with a view of the Elbe was cozy and very clean, as was the entire house. The rustic guest rooms invite you to linger. The food was very tasty and the staff were open-minded and friendly.

Food is top. Everything goes quickly. The service is very friendly, but the parking situation could be better. There are a few parking spaces in front of the restaurant. There is a large paid parking lot about 100 meters opposite. There is a busy street right in front of the house

Right on the B6. You should reserve if you want to get a table. This in turn means that the restaurant is in demand which speaks for itself. The food was really good and the price was surprisingly reasonable. I already put a lot more money on the table. We can recommend it, right on the Elbe.

Unfortunately there were seats at the entrance and it was like being in a dovecote. Food came quickly, was good and sufficient.

Lovely little restaurant serving traditional German food at reasonable prices. The staff was friendly and helpful, food was tasty and plentiful. Only downside really is that they don't accept any international debit or credit cards, EC (German local bank cards only). They also had no English menus available at the time of our visit.

Today we had dinner in the old blacksmith shop. It was a lunch for a Christmas party. The food was very tasty. The sauerbraten prepared very well. What I didn't like was the discussion about payment. Only cash payments or payment with outdated debit cards are accepted. Giro cards are no longer issued! Debit cards are state of the art. I understand that debit cards also incur fees. But we live in 2024. You have to pass that on to the prices. I don't have 400 EUR in cash in my pocket. So it was quite a hiccup. And that unfortunately ruined the otherwise very good overall impression. Too bad!

We had a room with a view of the Elbe and the busy main street. The windows were doubled, so no street noise could be heard when the windows were closed. Definitely very loud in summer with the windows open. Rooms are clear and everything is available, also very clean. Beds medium soft, but OK. The catering is very good and everything depends on the service and the extremely great and courteous employees. This is the greatest asset of this house. Limited parking spaces are available in the yard. Everything in Meißen's sights can be reached on foot from there. My absolute recommendation.

Für eine Feier, bzw ein Klassentreffen absolut nicht mehr zu empfehlen. Wir hatten gestern 2.10.2024 unser Klassentreffen dort. Nicht zum 1. Mal. Wir hatten Monate zuvor vorbestellt. Nach 21.30 Uhr wurden wir alle abkassiert und zum austrinken aufgefordert. Wir schließen heute um 22.00 Uhr!!! Wir waren gerade alle so schön in Gesprächen untereinander. Obwohl auch die Gasstätte noch gut besucht war, wurde tatsächlich um 22.00 Uhr zu gemacht!!! Wir als große Truppe, hätten mit Sicherheit noch gut Umsatz gemacht. Es war nicht unser erstes Klassentreffen dort, waren sonst immer zufrieden. Aber definitiv war das unser letztes Klassentreffen in dieser Location.

Leider waren wir nicht überzeugt vom Restaurant, Tischbestellung war nicht so einfach da wir gern draußen sitzen wollten, uns wurde versprochen man schiebt uns 2 4er Tische zusammen nix passierte, zum Schluss hat man uns einen 4er Tisch mit 3 Stühlen, für 7 Personen angeboten, obwohl mehrmals Tische draußen frei wurden, die man hätte uns geben können, wir waren echt sauer!!!! Bei über 30 C drin mit stickiger Luft zu sitzen, Mein Essen war nicht besonders, es fehlte an Gewürzen, Butter es fehlte einfach der leckere Geschmack schade, Preis / Leistung mit der Pirtionsgrösse stimmte nicht!!! Essen dauerte 1,5 h bis es kam, Getränke wurden auch nicht wirklich nachgefragt, unsere Stimmung sank in diesem stickigen Raum. Schade wir hätten gern mehr gegessen und getrunken und wären gern bis 23:00 geblieben, aber wir wurden regelrecht ignoriert!!!!!
