Food really very good. However, sometimes very loud in the restaurant

We found out about it via the Neotaste app and had a great evening. We really enjoyed it: 1xveggie, 1x lamb and chicken and both were very tasty. Would love to come back

We spontaneously came here with the gourmet block. The VIP menu was recommended to us. Man! That was delicious! Our little snack turned into an excellent dining experience. Highly recommended.

I didn't give it a five, since I made a reservation through TheFork, they tried to cancel the reservation on the same day after having made it more than 10 days ago, they told us that it was canceled because they did not apply the discount without offering us a new reservation. When we insisted that they reserve the table for us, they did so. So stay tuned if you book for such an important date with The Folk, because here are comments from people who have done the same thing. Otherwise, the food was very good and abundant. That is if they force you to eat the menu without having previously notified us, a menu that is not adapted for vegans.

Food was okay, but not recommended if you have a sensitive stomach… Waiter quite pushy, you could think he works there on commission.

I ordered lamb tikka masala with garlic nan. I hoped for tender lamb, but it was a bit hard (maybe it was frozen and not fresh).

Terrible experience. Waited 45 mins to have any service. The owner/ manager was rude and aggressive when we asked if you could order drinks. Do not visit us you want to eat within 2 hours. Table and cutlery dirty. Would recommend going anywhere else than here. Especially when for special occasions like NYE

Enjoyed the VIP menu today. A bit overpriced at €49, but ok considering New Year's Eve!

Be careful, very sales-oriented waiters who recommended starters to us that later cost €60 (starter only). I find that outrageous, even if I could have asked for the price (who seriously does that when recommending the hotel). In total, the three of us lost €190. If you can do that, you would definitely get better food and ambience somewhere else. The urbanized design is hip and well-received, but it shouldn't hide the modest selection of real Indian cuisine. Customers could be trusted more these days. Overall: well suited for customers who are willing to pay and are looking for hip pseudo-Indian food.

Service is bad. This place is scam. They force to buy the foof that you don’t want to eat.

Unfortunately the butter chicken didn't taste good at all. The meat was tender but the sauce had absolutely nothing to do with butter chicken. The waiter was extremely pushy. Really wanted to sell the menu. When this was refused, they tried to force a starter plate on us. After this was also rejected, attempts were made to sell the sauces as an additional accompaniment to the dishes. Overall, the waiter's behavior was very unpleasant. I think the prices for the food are very excessive.

The food and the ambience are the only thing that convinces. Drinks weren't necessarily the best in terms of taste either. The service was only partly okay, the price-performance ratio wasn't right, I expect reasonable service for the prices (for example, we had to pack our own food and we were often ignored). There was obviously a language barrier, it wasn't bad, but we weren't even asked whether the food was tasty or whether everything was okay with us.

If you are a tourist, move on! The boss and staff all rush you throughout the meal and make you understand that you are not welcome. Being Belgian, me and my wife managed to understand the menu but the waiter didn't give us much time to read it and choose. I ended up taking the "vip menu" because the waiter insisted (fortunately the food was good). The waiters are always looking over their shoulders so that we can eat more quickly, as soon as the last fork is in my mouth, they snatch my plate to serve me the dishes. And when I asked him to bring me the bill, he told me it was in the cash register. Well ok no worries I was planning to finish my drink but the boss “kindly” let me off the table because two customers were waiting behind me. In short, good food but unpleasant boss and staff.

I have reserved a table for dinner for myself and my family for Christmas (December 24th). Three days beforehand I received an email informing me that the reservation had been cancelled. When I asked the restaurant, I was told that a large group of around 50 people had reserved. The employee couldn't answer me why existing reservations were canceled for this. He only had space for a reservation at the other location. After I declined, I simply hung up without an apology or goodbye. Service is different.

Amazing Indian food, love this place

The waiter was an imposition - pushy, assertive and provocative in tone. He urged us to order quickly and tried to tell us what and how much to take. We've never experienced anything like this before. The food was okay, but not great, and the noise level in the room was way too high. Prices not cheap. We expected more. A visit we will not repeat.

First of all: The food was very tasty, sufficient and priced at a normal, high level (€22.90 for a chicken curry or similar dishes). Ambience also very nice. BUT: There were two of us and we were put at a mini table at the entrance, even though a sufficient number of normal-sized tables were unoccupied the entire time. At first we sat there all alone and felt forgotten. After 15 minutes we had to get up ourselves and go to the waiter to say that we would like to order. Unfortunately the order was forgotten, so we had to wait about 50 minutes for our food. Mind you, this was only because we went to the waiter to ask. It was very suspicious that according to the card a 0.33l San Pellegrino lemonade was advertised as a can. I got a 0.275ml bottle. When I asked the waiter, they said that only the 275ml would be charged. If this had been noted directly when ordering, it wouldn't have had a strange aftertaste. However, the price for the 0.33l was charged at the checkout. When I pointed this out, I was handed a euro in cash. To be fair, the two stars go to the chefs who conjured up a delicious meal. The rest of the service was not appreciative for the reasons mentioned above. They could have accommodated us by, for example, charging the two drinks on the house or something similar, but in the end they didn't even apologize for the incorrectly billed bottle. As we left, we gave exactly this feedback and hope that it will be taken to heart and future guests will experience more appreciation. PS: Forgetting your food order can happen, but the rest of it is what prompted me to write this review.

Food & ambience 10/10 Service & especially the boss are just unfriendly. Too bad

We came in and had to wait a long time before we were helped to a table. Once we got to the table we were ignored for 20 minutes, but it was busy. But please indicate that. A plate with cutlery was placed and they were gone. Received the menu within 10 minutes and she immediately expected the order. The food wasn't really spectacular either. We often eat Indian food, but I've never had it like that. The Butter chicken tastes like tomato sauce. Unfortunately we weren't very happy. This could all be because there were very large groups, but you expect such a large restaurant to respond to that. Unfortunately!

We had dinner with 5 people. The food was tasteful. However much more negatives than positives. The service was really bad. We had to wait for 20 minutes at the desk to receive the bill. The next day the owner contacted me and informed me that the payment was unsuccessful. Without any excuse or explanation. It was way too busy in the restaurant. They should consider to serve not all tables as long as there’s a lack of employees. We had to wait 45 minutes to see the menu for a dessert. Food was good however not enough. We received just one bowl of rice for 5 people. We finished the rice soon and had to pay for another bowl of rice. For the chicken dishes (like chicken tikka masala) they only use 1 kebab skewer, with 5 pieces of chicken. It was a small meal for €23. They reuse bottles for water. The sparkling water was not sparkling anymore.

Reserved a table for two three weeks ago, was assigned a cat table in the passage, everything else was occupied. In fact, some of them remained unoccupied all evening. The serving plate wasn't clean, a new one didn't come, instead, when the food was served, I made do with what was offered at the neighboring table. Loud, crowded and far too few staff. Food (system kitchen) was OK. We skipped dessert because no waitress showed up. Cash payment expressly requested.

We were at Ginti Essen with friends. The food was okay but not worth 5 stars. A big minus for the owner who unusually separated the bill at the end and pushed the dishes back and forth from one bill to the other, so that we were a bit confused at the end. That's why we went back to the store briefly to understand the bill again. We approached the owner very nicely and wanted to understand the bill. We were immediately greeted with a condescending look and behavior from him. We should take a closer look before we “accuse” him of something, although we simply asked nicely again about the bills. I wouldn't set foot in this store again because of this behavior alone.

wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone because of the fraudulent business practices of the owner. We handed him two 50€ bills to pay for a 55€ meal. However, he only gave us 10€ in change instead of 45€. We had to argue for 45 min before he finally gave us the additional 35€. Absolutely unacceptable behavior.

We were a group of 20 friends and had reserved a table almost two months before last night. When we arrived there wasn't enough room for all of us. We were initially only given 15 seats, the rest had to wait until a neighboring table had finished eating and left. So five people stood around for about 15 minutes. Once everyone was seated, the orders were taken. First drinks, then starters and main courses separately. And then part 2 of the drama began: the starters came relatively quickly, although with a total delay (which is tolerable for 20 people), but were also served in an uncoordinated manner. Sauces were simply placed on the table, it was unclear what they belonged to. Sometimes the sauces were already on the table long before the actual dish. After the starters the long wait began. After about 1 1/2 hours of waiting, we started asking. The explanation was succinct "a lot to do, will take about 20 minutes". After we complained, we were at least given a soft drink as "compensation". After another 15-20 minutes the first dishes arrived. It took another 15 minutes until everyone had a main course in front of them. The sauces were only added to the meat skewers after the meat skewers had already been eaten. You can't wait for sauce until the meat is cold. All in all a disaster. What we found most unprofessional was that the boss didn't even feel the need to intervene and apologize for the chaos. The staff seemed indifferent and rather annoyed with us as guests. I don't understand how a restaurant can be so poorly organized in its processes. It was a Saturday and the place was full, but that's usually how it works. And you can deal with guests more professionally. What remains positive is that the food was delicious when it arrived and was complete.

We came today with 2 friends, we had Chicken Tikka Masala with Naan garlic bread, we liked it very much! We got our food in a reasonable amount of time and at the end we got some Mango Lassi drinks as a nice gesture! I give 4 stars because there was a group of people being a bit loud and it was personally disturbing me and when I asked the server to maybe moving us, he could have done more than just saying it’s weekend and people are having a good mood, there were other tables far way from this group, we could have moved, but we recommend!

We cam to Ajay Gawdi's restaurant today for a 50th Birthday party. The food, cocktails and service were top notch. We live in London and the food was as good if not better than any Indian restaurant there. I would highly recommend eating here.

We were very disappointed with our visit. The operations manager displayed extremely unfriendly behavior, pushing employees around and simply pointing at a table while saying 'there'. We wanted to spend a relaxing evening with good food and be served by a friendly, satisfied team - unfortunately that wasn't the case here. We left the store.

Best Indian restaurant Cologne 😍❤️

Stopped for a drink and a snack, asked if that was ok first and told it was. The next waiter arrived and tried to sell the expensive special, declined and ordered samosas, which were delivered to the table (next to us) quite quickly. After I chased and they realised their mistake one basket of samosas was collected from our neighbours table and shortly after our food arrived. One portion of samosas was hot, the other less so. Food was ok, no complaints. Asked for the bill, was told to go to the till to pay (no one else had to) and was presented with a figure but nothing printed. From the till I could see they had over charged us and pointed that out, bill was adjusted. Mistakes happen but for such a simple order that really shouldn't have been the case and to not even apologise for over charging? Thankfully there are a huge selection of restaurants in Cologne and all the others we tried were excellent, I suggest you go elsewhere.

Definitivamente había un problema con nosotros no pedir una comida completa, pero preguntamos si estaba bien y dijeron que sí. Increíblemente poco acogedor y poco profesional establecimiento, por no mencionar la cremallera del pantalón de camarera se deshizo de toda nuestra visita 🤢🤮. 0 estrellas!

I have rarely visited a restaurant that puts as much heart and dedication into its work as this restaurant. Overhyped, overcrowded, poor chaotic service. At the entrance there are people piling up who want to pay, guests waiting for reserved tables, no reception, no greeting. Hectic bring to table, then 25 minutes until a cellar gets lost at the table. Order is rudely interrupted by boss. Food arrives, then no more contact with the staff. Actually like in a snack bar. Food was ok, but not recommended due to the lack of service. Fun fact: Someone is constantly filming pictures of the full restaurant. The main thing is that it looks good on Instagram. 🙄👎🏻

Overcrowded and chaotic, food was nothing special.

I am shocked at how customers are treated here. My food didn't arrive for 2 hours and was called multiple times because they didn't know what order I had placed or where it was supposed to be delivered. The customer service at Uber Eats also asked how long the order would take and they blatantly lied and said the food was on the way...in fact the order didn't come until an hour later. I think you shouldn't participate in such delivery portals if customers are being ripped off. No apology, no compensation and rude incompetent staff! And I only had a small order of naan and papadum with sauces. Never again!

Unfortunately, the service was so bad that even the food, which was good in itself, did not allow for a better rating. Our reservation wasn't honored (seems to be the case in general), so we had to wait 15 minutes for a table. Once we were seated it took another 45 minutes for our order to be taken, although the waitress didn't know the menu and had to ask several times what we meant. The drinks only came after 20 minutes. To pay, we had to queue again in the entrance area and groups that came after us were charged first. We received no apology or compensation.

Unfortunately, left within 30 minutes. We made a reservation because of the Christmas market crowds. Reservation was not known. We were put in a room that is a terrace in the summer. There is a heater, but unfortunately cold. An appetizer was presented as a “compensation”. Had to pass the drink three times, a particularly strong caipirinha of which I only left half of it. The nonchalant manager wearing an EarPod sends every employee in all directions in an unpleasant way. Doesn't realize what that does to the customers. It feels very grim. The food itself was okay. But because of how I am treated as a customer and how the employees are treated (atmosphere and hurriedness) I will definitely not come back. It has potential, but absolutely not in the way the restaurant presents itself now.

Good food but horrible experience when paying the bill. Owner doesn’t give you the receipt and he doesn’t honor the discounts he promised with The Fork app. You can only pay with cash but they don’t let you know before hand as other restaurants do. I wouldn’t come back.

Super delicious food, especially the butter chicken and the naan, just perfectly seasoned. The service was really friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant was really pleasant. The portions are large, the prices are fair. If you like Indian food, you definitely have to go here :)

The two of us attended the “cooking course” on Sunday lunchtime. My expectations were more than exceeded. I haven't experienced so much hospitality and warmth in a long time. A big thank you to all the staff and the wonderful food we cooked together. Just great !!!

Nothing can be said about the food. High quality and delicious. This review is more of a warning/caution when paying the bill: My second visit here and the second time that we (a larger group) were simply charged for incorrect & additional orders. Only noticed the mistake afterwards and paid €30 too much. It is questionable why in the year 2024/2025 you still have to ask the customer to checkout and then wait around 10 minutes for the boss to enter all the dishes individually into his checkout. Digitalization is not yet an issue here. So dear visitors... be careful!

A real disappointment. In my opinion the price-performance ratio is not right. Yes, the food was tasty, but it was way too expensive for what was on offer. The service seemed overwhelmed and stressed. The women's toilets were not in good condition. We had high expectations - and will definitely not eat here again. The food was very tasty and the location itself is really nice. Unfortunately the service was super bad and we didn't really feel welcome! Plates were simply cleared away, even though they were not yet empty and others at the table were also eating. To pay, we had to go to the entrance and then wait forever while standing in the way in the middle of the aisle (which the staff also made us feel, but unfortunately there was no other way to wait!). To be honest, I think it's a shame given the prices. I would have expected a little more!

Ich habe 2 Gerichte abgeholt. Zuhause musste ich feststellen, dass ein Gericht nicht das bestellte war. Leider war der Chef bei Anruf daraufhin sehr unfreundlich und machte keinen Vorschlag der Wiedergutmachung.Die Gerichte : Lamm Tikka Masala und Jafrezi mit Paneer ( nicht wie bestellt mit Garnelen) waren beide schmackhaft. Es war jedoch das Verhältnis Fleisch zu Soße extrem schlecht. 4 Stücke Lamm in einer riesen Menge Soße. Beide Soßen waren nicht typisch indisch lange eingekocht sondern Sahne oder Joghurt mit Currypaste??.Dazu ist das Preisniveau recht hoch. Da gibt es deutlich bessere Inder.

We were here for my girlfriend's birthday. I had two delicious dishes from the starter street food menu and left well satisfied. I can especially recommend the chicken lollipops. The service was very friendly and accommodating and there was even a little serenade with music and cake on the house. Very sweet ;)

We arrived at the restaurant with high expectations, given the good reviews and all the advertising. The ambience is good, the restaurant is clean and well lit. The food tasted pretty good (the butter chicken had 5 pieces of chicken, was a little bland, came with rice but cost a whopping 22,50€ for the portion size). The flavours were not authentic indian, which I then learned was because it is an Afghani run restaurant. The roomali roti was dry, not the soft ‘roomali’ texture one would be used to in India. The chicken dum biryani also had 4-5 small pieces of meat, plenty of rice and little masala, so unfortunately also lacked flavour. Each dish was very highly priced for the portion size / wholesomeness. Unfortunately what was missing was good service. Even on a Wednesday evening, with no exceptional rush in the restaurant, the waiter was very pushy, not eager but pushy, about placing an order and wouldn’t give time/space even when we requested it. We usually pack leftovers so that they don’t have to be thrown away, so we requested a doggy bag. He unfortunately rudely left me a box to pack my own leftovers to take. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against packing it myself. But it was my first experience ever, world wide, where the server didn’t pack it after clearing up the table, so i was taken aback, unfortunately leaving a bad impression at the end of the meal. Perhaps we had an off day at the restaurant, and it is usually better, but with my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

You really have the best Indian food in Cologne here. I have tried many Indian restaurants and it tastes best here. Above all, there is no skimping on spices and spiciness, so it is really authentic. Of course you can also order the dishes mild. The owner is a very attentive and nice person. By the way, the Mango Lassi is also highly recommended. Only the staff could be friendlier, but since the food comes quite quickly and everything else is fine, the complaining is at a high level. Absolutely recommended!

Absolute disappointment! The ambience is quite nice, apart from the disgustingly dirty window facing the kitchen. Service was unprofessional. To pay you have to stand in a queue in front of the exit! Neither beautiful nor contemporary. Price-performance ratio is very bad. The food is nothing special. For the main course, which costs over twenty euros and only consists of five pieces of chicken, you also have to order and pay for rice and sauce. Then they didn't even bring the right sauce, but a completely different one. What's really annoying is that I got sick after eating!!! We won't go there again!

We were there on Saturday afternoon and were very impressed by the atmosphere and the food! The staff and the boss were very friendly! The portions are more than enough! There is only a point deduction for the sanitary rooms, you could wipe them down every now and then...

I often order from you, the food tastes great but the service from the supplier is extremely bad and unfriendly! Every time he says my car is parked dangerously, the other day I ordered food at the hospital, he comes in annoyed, closes his hand, as if I supposedly have something contagious, FYI I'm a dialysis patient and have cancer, I should be more careful regard!! Then he scolds me for not giving my cell phone number, nobody has to give his/her number. That was the last order I made because I don't want the delivery person anymore.

This Indian restaurant impressed in all areas. The service was super nice and attentive - you immediately felt at home. The atmosphere was really nice, cozy and inviting. There was incredibly delicious food. Everything was just right: the atmosphere, the friendliness of the team and the entire experience. I can really only recommend it and am already looking forward to my next visit. Absolutely great!

The food was simply excellent and the service from the extremely friendly and hospitable boss was great. You immediately felt welcome and in good hands. The restaurant was also very nicely decorated.

The reception went very quickly and we were served directly at our table. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food tops everything. The butter chicken came at the perfect time and was very delicious. Therefore 5/5 stars!
