We went to dinner today, and everything was very good. However, we noticed that the other guests got a free shot of schnapps after dinner, but we didn't. Even though our sales weren't too small. It's not about the schnapps, but we felt somehow excluded.

Discovered by chance. Simply amazing! Super friendly and fast staff. Great Portuguese food at reasonable prices. Thank you so much for the unforgettable evening with you!

We received a very warm and friendly welcome, attentive service, and the food was excellent. I was able to pour myself the free schnapps; four bottles were placed in front of me, and I was asked to choose my own schnapps. I would be happy to come back.

Our friend doesn't eat meat and is allergic to fish. Perfect conditions for a Portuguese restaurant. The kitchen conjured up a vegetarian dish like I've never seen before. The rest of the menu was excellent. We'll be back.

Small, quaint restaurant in the Portuguese Quarter. Unfortunately, the chef was probably having a bad day that day; The grilled ox cheeks were inedible, even a steak knife couldn't cut them. The braised cheeks were good and tender.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Hamburg! “A Varina” has been my culinary retreat for years – my regular restaurant with which I have many wonderful memories. Everything is just right here: the service is always warm, attentive and personal, the food is authentic, fresh and simply delicious. Whether with family, friends or alone – I always feel welcome and in good hands. The quality is consistently high, the atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed, and you can taste the love for Portuguese cuisine in every dish. A real piece of Portugal in the middle of Hamburg – highly recommended!

By far my favorite restaurant in Hamburg. The steak with garlic sauce in a clay pot is super delicious. As soon as salad, potato slices, etc. are empty, everything will be refilled upon request. Highly recommended

The food and service were great as always. Very authentic cuisine and really nice service. It wasn't my first time here and I'd love to come back. It's a welcome change from the otherwise very commercial dining area in the district. It's a bit reminiscent of the restaurants in real Portugal.

Wir waren mit einer kleinen Gruppe vor Ort zum Abendessen. Es war ein Herzlicher Empfang und schnell hatten wir unseren Platz. Wir hatten zum Start einen bunten Mix aus Vorspeisen alle waren sehr lecker. Im Hautgang hatten wir einen Mix aus Fisch und Fleisch. Auch hier war es hervorragend lecker. Also 5 von 5 für Geschmack und Qualität.

Cramped in a cozy way, small, a bit noisy when it gets busy. The boss was very friendly. Unfortunately I had a bit of bad luck with the grilled fish platter, a piece of it smelled and tasted very strange and was not edible. Slight communication problems with the waiter became noticeable when I told him this and he just shrugged his shoulders. We also ordered a glass of wine and received a carafe. The paella was plentiful and tasted good. The side salad was very salty but somehow funny. The house wine and Portuguese beer were also good. A small special was priced as a large one on the bill, which we unfortunately noticed too late.

The food was really delicious. Very good pork cheeks! The aioli is just not my thing, but that's my personal taste. What I was missing, however, was a larger selection of little things. I love eating tapas. And several of them. The selection here is very limited, which is a shame. No piementos, I missed them. But again: what was there was very tasty!

Yesterday I managed to visit the small but very fine Portuguese restaurant for the first time. It was a real culinary delight! The prices are very moderate. The owner and his colleagues are extremely nice and accommodating. A visit is definitely worth it!! Tip: A reservation might be recommended given the size ;)

I recommend calamari with potatoes baked in the oven. It couldn't be better. And then the service is so nice.

my wife and i ate paella. food was good and portion was big. yet, the owner is a grumpy guy who never smiles, he made us wait 20 minutes just to bring us the check. when i come to hamburg again, i will go somewhere else... if one does not know how to smile, he or she should go into restaurant business...

We can really recommend this restaurant without reservation. The service is very courteous and friendly, we immediately felt completely at home. The food was simply delicious, all the dishes tasted great and were very filling. The house wine is also highly recommended, we were even allowed to try a glass each beforehand to decide. The food was delicious and the advice was good. The two of us had a fish platter, first of all scampi fried in garlic. We could have been fed well with 3 people, as the platter came with two kinds of potatoes and salad. At the end you were allowed to choose whether you wanted a schnapps/liqueur on the house. We decided on liqueur and 4 bottles and 2 glasses were put on the table for us to serve ourselves!! We were allowed to try everything as often as we wanted. Really nice. The furnishings are rather simple and a bit old. Toilets very tidy with cloth towels per person. But the food was really very good!!

So inconspicuous from the outside, but from the inside you feel like you've been transported to Portugal. And then the food!!! I have rarely eaten food that was as delicious as it was here and as rich as it was here. I was able to choose between braised or grilled ox and then you got both, great. Normally the restaurant should always be packed. Absolute top tip

Very nice place. Must order the Gambas as starter, eat them with your hands!!! delicious. perfectly grilled. Followed by the Lamb clay pot. comes with two types of potatoes. They even offered to add more meat for free but i wasn’t in the mood to go into a food coma. Note that the english menu has the old prices but marginally higher. If you are in the area drop by. They are even pet friendly. table near by had a dog and they brought him a bowl for water.

I ordered Grill Fischplatte and as you can see the amount of food served for one person is humongous. And the quality and taste of the food was excellent. All the fish served were very fresh. The ambience isn’t fancy but gives the vibe of an old Portugese restaurant. The wait time is hardly few minutes for the food… Highly recommended place 😊♥️

Were on July 26th. with 14 people for dinner there. From the first to the last minute it was an unforgettable experience! Very friendly welcome, super attentive service and we felt like we were invited to good friends. The Vinho Verde goes perfectly with food, fresh and tasty. And now for the food: we were served a nice selection of starters, bread with aioli, ham, salami, cheese, scampi, grilled sausage, baked sardines... Everything was absolutely delicious 😋. The main courses served, on which we were also given friendly advice, left nothing to be desired. Meat dishes (Iberico pork cheeks, lamb fillets, braised ox...) and fish dishes (seafood rice, sea bream, zander...) were all a delight! I myself am a master chef and take my hat off to these professionals, chapeau! We'd love to come back!

We visited this restaurant for Paella, and it was great. The portion for two turned out to be more like a portion for three and delicious. 😁😋 We also ordered two side salads; however, they were too expensive for the quality provided. 🫰🤔 Also, thanks to the staff, they found a table for us on a busy Saturday evening, though we had no reservation. 🤗

Nothing negative to comment about this restaurant. The fried cod with onion was 10, they also served us a tapa of fried fish on the house while we waited for the food. The attention was impeccable, they were attentive to us at all times and even asked us if we wanted to repeat and the dishes are very complete. The atmosphere is very calm and cozy, with fado music in the background. Completely recommended.

Delicious food with very nice owners. Inexpensive drinkable wine. There was bread and aioli, along with salad. The tapas, hmm. Were OK. The rabbit very good. Add the fried potatoes, hmm. I would have preferred the rosemary potatoes, which were served with the dish of the day, sole. The pudding afterwards was also delicious and you were given an open bottle of port wine to taste it with. Nice.
