Everything about our visit was five star greatness, from the dark beer to the wine to the Weiner schnitzel to the spaetzle to the Frankfurt green sauce. Wow. The patio out back was full on a hot night so we had to eat indoors but that hardly mattered given the fine service and quality of the food. If you’re in Frankfurt, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a totally enjoyable experience.

Great restaurant, friendly service and very tasty food.

Both the apfelwein and schnitzel were really well done and did well to revive my appetite after a 12 hour flight.

The food is really outstanding, but there is room for improvement when it comes to service.

You can always trust the portion there if you are very hungry, and what I like very much is that they also have a smaller schnitzel portion (but with cheese on top) for those who doesn’t want to eat that much meat. Their green sauce is also very tasty (although still not the best in town) They also have a nice backyard for outdoor seating. I definitely recommend this place for tourists as well as the locals.

I sat down here for a nice bit of bread and savory spreads and an Apfelwein. It was quite busy, so the servers were a bit confused and all over the shop, but I got a nice spot in the garden. I made some weird requests to modify my order and they were really forthcoming in accommodating me. I even asked for more bread and asked them to charge me for it, and they refused, bringing it to me for free instead! The food itself was fantastic. I fully recommend the Spundekäs, it is a magnificent thing to experience!

Good food but unfortunately such poor treatment by the staff. Ordered drinks that were forgotten which is completely understandable that you forget sometimes but when we were going to pay we were called stupid and treated in an unacceptable way.

Great food at reasonable price.

Actually everything was perfect, but the waiter's oriental perfume fogged up the entire dining room and also the food. We left quite quickly. Too bad!

Gemütliche Apfelweinwirtschaft in Sachsenhausen mit ausgezeichnetem Essen, freundlichem Service und köstlichem Apfelwein. Der Tafelspitz mit Bratkartoffeln und grüne Soße ist der beste, den ich in Frankfurt gegessen habe. Auch andere Gerichte wie Lammbraten, Frankfurter Schnitzel, Spannferkel sind sehr zu empfehlen. Hier kocht man mit Leib und Seele, die regionalen Zutaten werden zu köstlichen, äußerst schmackhaften Gerichten zubereitet. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist TOP, meine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung!

If you have a quick stopover in Frankfurt, I highly recommend it. The Schweinhaxen here is really delicious. The price is reasonable and the beer is, needless to say, delicious. I don't remember the other menu items, but there wasn't a single one that wasn't delicious. I really recommend it!! That sauce is really delicious

I was a little worried about the discrimination issues mentioned in the one-star reviews, but everything turned out to be amazing! The staff were super friendly and nice, and the food was excellent. The wait for the main courses was a bit long, but it was totally worth it in the end. I’ll definitely recommend this place to our friends and other tourists from Asia.

If you are looking for typical German food, this is the perfect place. The dishes are very well served and the service is spectacular. The outdoor space is "shared", so we had to sit at a table with other people.

Some time ago it was absolutely great, one of the best. Unfortunately just OK today. Food was average and quite expensive.

Went to Atschel for the first time on Monday. What can I say, everything was fine. Super young, nice team, we were given seats in the cozy garden. Food typically Frankfurter, rustic, good portions and super tasty. I will come back.

For an hour we stayed patient and waited; giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were having a busy night. That was until we noticed the blatant differential treatment. For instance, the waiter would ask the other tables (french couple speaking english too) how’s the food etc but pretty much ignored us. Maybe because we looked asian and they weren’t sure if we could speak english but look, we didn’t need the chit chat - we just wanted to be served our food. We had to chase them for our food after more than an hour and they didn’t even serve us the right items. The schnitzel tasted hastily cooked, oily and not well seasoned. This isn’t our first rodeo in Germany and we know that what we had was downright bad. At the end of meal, they tried to charge us for the food that didn’t come. Luckily we checked the bill. They charged us for a schnitzel, additional green sauce and a roasted pork dish even though we only received the 2 plates of oily awful schnitzels. Couldn’t be bothered to try explaining or arguing so we just paid and left. What a pity because we were so excited for the food and even took an uber all the way down to try the food. Awful service, sloppy food and overall horrible experience. P.S. don’t blame it on miscommunication because we are singaporean (we are native english-speakers) and even made sure to code-switch so that we spoke comprehensible english. I have hardly ever experienced such unfriendly staff. Also extremely impatient. We weren't able to enjoy our (otherwise not super bad) meal.

We got a place for two without a reservation. Service staff are all really very nice. The store was full! Food was super tasty and great value for money. The cashing process was a bit confusing because there were drinks on our bill that we didn't have, but after a short discussion with the waiter, the problem was quickly resolved.

Typical and traditional apple wine bar in the middle of Old Saxony. Delicious food, good apples and lovely service.

To repeat without a doubt. Fast service, exquisite food. Handkäse mit Musik, cheese in a small saucepan with water and pieces of sweet onion eaten on bread with butter, snitzel mit grünen Sauce. They were very tender breaded filets with a cheesy and spiced sauce that seemed to me like some kind of Philadelphia cheese with crushed cucumber. It was very good. Apfelwein must be ordered pure, otherwise it is usually mixed with sparkling water.

The bacon soup is a must try. Absolutely delicious. Good mashed potatoes. The sausages and the saurkreut are so so.

Traditional apple wine restaurant in Sachsenhausen.

It is probably one of the oldest Äpplewoi restaurants in Frankfurt. Located in Sachsenhausen. Food and drink ok (tasty/good portions). It was full and the service staff seemed completely overwhelmed (it took forever to place the order and for the food to arrive). Nevertheless, it is recommended, maybe a little faster the next time

The food is fantastic, service is great, and the summer garden is perfect with cider and food!!

Bored staff even though there wasn't much going on. Then ordered salad was served incomplete. Jägerschnitzel too dry and the sauce was good but under (!) the schnitzels and also too poor. I have often been to the Atschel in the past and have always found it to be very good. Unfortunately, things went downhill after the tenant changed after several visits. Unfortunately, the atmosphere that the Atschel once had is no longer there. There are now better alternatives in the immediate vicinity. A pity !

Food was good, but unfortunately that was it. The service is very annoyed, by the guests, by each other or by general stress. The football game was advertised, but apparently only shown reluctantly. With a delay of more than 2 minutes, there is little atmosphere when you can already hear all the goals from outside.

Unfortunately my expectations were too high and I was disappointed. My wife and I came from further afield and reserved a table two months ago. My wife orders the slaughter platter and I order the pork cheeks with red wine sauce, vegetables and spaetzle. The cheeks were lukewarm in the middle only the sauce was hot, after my complaint I got my plates back, exactly as I had given them back, only with more sauce and warmed up in the microwave. This caused the cheeks to be tough and the vegetables to be mushy. Sorry guys, this is a complete nonsense. When paying, they kindly canceled it and apologized. Advice to the boss, just make a new portion. Unfortunately it was the first and last time there.

A classic German restaurant, the beer is excellent, the food is second to none! I got pork knuckle, crispy on the outside not so tender on the inside. Sensational back patio, clean restrooms

If you are looking for a tradition restaurant in Frankfurt Gaststätte Atschel is a great choice. Nothing fancy but original and authentic is the name of the game. Inside you are seated in big tables with wooden benches, there is a covered winter garden as well as a nice outside area in the back. Of course the traditional apple wine ( Ebblewoi) is served along with all the specialties form the region. From well know things like Schnitzel ( but here with the special green sauce from Frankfurt) as well as pork knuckle or sausages. If you want something really unique try “Handkäs” a cheese made of curd marinated in vinegar and apple wine. Oh one important thing! You can pay by card only for bills of 50€ and above. So bring some cash if you split the bills

Must be a specific German food cooking style or something along those lines. The crispy knuckle was intriguing but turned out to not be my style at all. Frankfurt knuckle I thought was known for the awesome brown gravy. Overall it was not what the ratings led us to believe.

Despite a lot of stress because of the international soccer match for the European Championship, very good food and nice service Keep it up

Authentic German food worth visiting. The atmosphere was exactly what I hoped for. The food exceeded my expectations and made me want to return the next night for another fantastic meal. We ordered like it was the last supper in order to try everything and wow is how I would describe what our reaction was.

We had a very nice evening at Atschel. The portions were huge, but also very tasty, although there could have been a bit more mushrooms in the hunter's sauce. Service was quick and friendly, we would love to come back!

Always happy to go to Atschel... Today, on the opening day of the European Championship, you could easily get a place. Roast pork, schobbe and medlar tasted great. The highlight was a very entertaining conversation with the people sitting next to us at the table. That's how it should be...

The food was delicious and very fresh. The service was good. I highly recommend this restaurant while in Frankfurt.

We ate very well and the place is really nice. Unfortunately the service is poor. On a Saturday night with the place full of people, they lost our order only to find it 1 hour later. Meanwhile they served the other tables. When we complained they responded like this: "obviously you arrived last, you have to wait". The only solidarity we had was from the other people near us who were amazed by what had happened. In short, the food is good, the location is wonderful, but the service needs to be seriously reviewed. When it came time to pay, being from 2 different companies we asked to split the receipt and we were denied, furthermore if the amount to be paid is under 30 euros they only want cash. It's really a shame that it's still like this in 2024...

A very nicely decorated apple winery with a very nice outdoor area. The service was first class. It just took a while to collect. The food is typical of an apple winery in Frankfurt. We were very satisfied.

Typical Alt Sachsenhäuser Äbbelwoi restaurant with original Frankfurt specialties. The restaurant has been lovingly renovated, and despite the restaurant being full, the staff is friendly and quick. The food is surprisingly cheap for the excellent quality. The roast pork is amazing. If you are looking for delicious, home-style food and a Sachsenhausen ambience, Atschel is the right place for you. Thanks for the good hospitality, we'll be happy to come back

BEWARE NEGATIVE REVIEWS WILL MAKE THE RESTAURANT DELETED!! We were here last time 2 years ago. The service was very unfriendly and the food wasn't particularly good either. Very much degraded compared to before! My wife wrote a review at the time and yesterday received a notification that it had been removed for defamation. Apparently you are systematically having all reviews that are below three removed by Google based on this justification. There is probably no need to explain what to make of this. So it's best to stay away.

Love the food here. The green sauce is delicious and goes well with the meaty schnitzel.

The atmosphere was great . Love the foods & it was mostly traditional German foods . The green sauce so far was the best I have ever eaten here . It was busy so it’s best to make a reservation first . We love the dessert meal the most :) .

I had accommodation nearby. So I looked for somewhere to eat in the area. I got stuck here because my gut feeling led me here. My gut feeling wasn't wrong. An uncomfortable “Äppelwoi” pub with good home cooking. The card can be fully recommended without reservation. Great atmosphere, both the dining room and the beer garden, brilliant staff. I myself had the Käsespätzle, which I can absolutely recommend. Simply crazy. There was also pure apple cider. But you can also get it sprayed sour (with mineral water). Wines and other drinks were also on the menu. I only took photos of the ambiance, sitting outside, and no pictures of the food. These pictures can already be seen in abundance. I therefore gave up on it. Although it doesn't look like it, this place has been around for a very, very long time. Also at this point. A great tradition that is lovingly continued by the operators. Finally, I can highly recommend the fruit brandies, I had nut, or a medlar, a local Frankfurt specialty. Just try it and be surprised. I will remember this place very well and will definitely come back when I am in Frankfurt again.

Went in without a reservation and still got a spot. Service is on point. The food was sensationally good. I had the pork medallions with apple Calvados sauce and loved them. The taste is really really delicious. Amount on the plate is absolutely sufficient. A little more expensive than the restaurants in the area.

Nice taste. A great place to take friends when they come to Germany. This is German food!! It's good to take with you when you're doing it. I don't have a picture of the Pouf Schneezel (with green sauce), but it's delicious!!!

Hidden gem! Gastätte Atschel offers up some of best traditional German dishes in Frankfurt Saschsenhausen. The food quality is great and the service staff are also refreshingly very friendly. You can order anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed, but my favorite is the Schäufelchen (shovel). Its delicious!

Excellent restaurant for the few hours I had in Frankfurt. I visited on a Friday night and was happy to sit in the back patio outside because the weather was nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Since I was in Frankfurt I had to try the schnitzel with green sauce and it did not disappoint. It was honestly on the best meals I had in Europe and had been to Paris and Lyon before that. I also tried the frankfurters and they were excellent too. The portion sizes for the price were excellent as well having just come from Switzerland. The one thing I did not like was the tipping option during payment - which I attribute mostly to American payment systems having tipping built in. That said it's a small gripe and not a huge deal. Overall, Gaststätte Atschel is a wonderful restaurant and I would return in a heartbeat.

I always enjoy being at Atschel and try to set it up when I'm in Frankfurt. The food was again super tasty and super great. We were there with friends and got a large table at short notice.

Wonderful gem in Frankfurt! We loved absolutely everything about this place. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and lively, the Apfelwein lovely. The food was delicious! We had the schnitzel with potatoes and green sauce and the schnitzel with mushroom sauce and spätzle and both were excellent! This will be our first stop the next time we're back in Frankfurt!

Great place to grab a bite. Traditional style menu. It fills up fast (we arrived 30 mins after opening and got the last indoor spot). There is also an outside open air patio that would be great in warm weather. Appears popular with locals and tourists. We had full meals for 2 plus 1 beer and 1 wine for about 40 euros.

Large portion, very good schnitzel and sauces. I am taking away 2 stars for the lack of the card payment ability, and for an attempt of fraud and adding water for almost 5 euros to our already large bill. The women from the table next to us had the same issue, so I don't think it was a coincidence. Food was good, but the rest not so much.

Very tasty food, typically Hessian. Service friendly and quick. The ambience is typical of Apfelweinschenke, very spartan but OK.

After a long closure, the Atschel exists again. Good ambience and still good cuisine and Ebbelwei with unfortunately noticeably increased prices, that's something to keep in mind!
