Food was very good. With live music and a nice atmosphere, always a pleasure.

A very cozy restaurant, with beautiful decoration. The food is very rich and abundant. The staff was very nice, the one who served us was a very friendly young guy. It is important to say that payment by card is not accepted.

We reserved a table for New Year's Eve on our vacation and looked at the menu online in advance. Everything sounded promising. We were shocked that there was only a very small menu for New Year's Eve, but the prices were beyond outrageous. More than double the price just because it's New Year's Eve?? The food was okay, but the portions were quite small. On the last day of our stay in Mittenwald we went to “Gries” again and ordered our dinner and the portions were really good. The Kalbslüngl with homemade bread dumplings tasted excellent and my husband's Cordon Bleu was also excellent and we were full.

Basically, the service was friendly and accommodating - but still only 1 star for service because card payment is not offered. Personally, especially in the catering industry, it really gets on my nerves when only cash payment is accepted: a rogue who thinks “bad” about it. I then had to walk across town to a bank to withdraw money in order to be able to pay at all. Apart from that, it is recommended and therefore 4 stars.

Characteristic place and delicious food! Too bad that no one spoke English but only German! They only accept cash!

Although it was busy, there was still a place for the two of us. The order was taken quickly and served in a reasonable time. Can recommend Economy without reservation. Would love to come again if in the area.

Typical Bavarian place with excellent traditional cuisine, various dishes, good beer, average prices, they don't accept credit cards but they will notify you immediately as soon as you arrive.

We waited almost 1 hour and 20 minutes for the food. The food wasn't really tasty and didn't have much seasoning and was very carelessly prepared. This was the worst restaurant in a great week in Mittenwald. The restaurant is actually very nice. The service is not attentive

We immediately felt very at home and were served very warmly. The service staff were very attentive and the food tasted excellent. The "small" menu for New Year's Eve also had something on offer for every taste. Great value for money. We'll definitely be back 😉

It's nice that we got a table at short notice. It's a shame, the food was delicious but the plates of the knuckle and the dumpling trio were cold and so the dishes came quickly. The onion soup was good and hot.

Very good food and consistent price. We had knuckle, German sausage salad and Kaiserschmarren. All very rich. Friendly service (waiter and waitress). The owner or manager is not... telling off the waitress in front of us. It is not corrected in public, it is done in private. She is also loud-mouthed and rude. He doesn't move aside when customers pass by, he doesn't say hello, he doesn't smile and he just shouts. Made the stay much less pleasant than it could have been.

Seldom visited such a good restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is the best. We've been there 4 times now and everything was great.

From what we heard, we had high expectations But some dishes were not available and during the week when we could have shopped. I had to switch to a different dish and a different beer because what I wanted was no longer in stock. I won't give it up again.

On a personal recommendation, we were there in person for the first time today. Even though the restaurant was full, all orders were delivered to the table very quickly. Very tasteful! From the starter (soup) to the dessert! In addition, the service is very friendly and personable, really on the ball! We'll be back

The ambience was great, the service was moderately quick, the soup was good, the spinach dumplings weren't aromatic but well prepared on the plate, the salad only tasted like vinegar - it's a shame. Service does not respond to dissatisfaction. Guest room very loud.

Great ambience, good food, nice service. Unfortunately there was an argument between the waiters and the chef, which we noticed as a guest. It was very unpleasant for us when the waitress cried. So we paid pretty quickly and then left.

DELICIOUS, COZY AND WORTH IT! Had some of their onion beef with garlic potatoes which was fantastic! And not to mention their “Kaiserschmarn”!! A real feast!

We have been coming to Mittenwald since 2019 and unfortunately we were here for the first time this year. We really liked and enjoyed it. The food was well seasoned and came to the table at the same time. The service was attentive and we had great fun, thanks to Alex and Junior.

When you reserved a table you were met with an incredibly friendly atmosphere. The service can also be highly praised. The most important thing is always the food. Here too we were completely convinced. We'll be back.

So now I'm back home and I'm only now getting around to writing a review. We had dinner at Gries on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, we discovered it too late. That was really a shame. Otherwise we would definitely have been there more often. Our food was first class. Rarely have I had such good pork medallions. Now comes the kicker... Our waitress, Alexandra, is such a warm, friendly and funny person who you just have to love. A very warm greeting from me. This is how you (I imagine) imagine service in the catering industry. The other staff also goes out of their way to take care of their guests. Conclusion: Overall satisfied. A recommendation for good food and a real Bavarian atmosphere. Dear Griesers, keep it up. If I ever come to Mittenwald again, you'll be the first place to eat.

What restaurant doesn't take credit cards??? This one evidently. It pretty much ruined our evening. We had just arrived into town and hadn't exchanged money yet.. The food was good a hour later after having to go to the bank after-hours.

We ate at the Gasthof Gries twice during our 1 week vacation and everything was really good. Very tasty food, nice and cozy atmosphere, super nice and funny service. We are already looking forward to the next time.

We visited with a larger group and we really enjoyed it (very nice service + delicious food) There was nothing to complain about and we can definitely recommend it☀️👍🏻

I've eaten there several times during my vacation, the menu was varied, the food was excellent and the service was extremely friendly and humorous. I felt very comfortable there and would be happy to come back at any time.

Went here for dinner twice this holiday and it was great. The service was extremely friendly on both evenings, the food was very tasty and the waiting time was absolutely reasonable. I felt very comfortable. A stay in Mittenwald without a visit to the Gasthof Gries is a waste of time. Looking forward to next time.

The service was nice, but forgot to order drinks, unfortunately my food was too salty, both salad and main course. My husband thought his food was ok. Last year the quality was better.

Ambience very good 👍🏼 the food was good but nothing extraordinary... that doesn't mean it was bad... it was appropriate for the price... and nothing more, nothing less... solid. However, the service was overwhelmed. Even if they tried not to let this show. The staff was impeccable and friendly at all times. But often moaning and "breathing loudly" which created a somewhat strange atmosphere in the guest room. Reorders were taken but not fulfilled and not shown on the invoice. We waited a good 45 minutes for the first part of the meal. It was a tomato soup that was supposed to be served with fresh herbs (you couldn't see them). The main courses were sent (there were two of us) at clear intervals. Stupid if you want to eat together and both dishes should still be hot... The house could have made more of the evening... Conditionally recommended

Mittelwald is a really nice village! Lots of cute painted houses just across the Austria/Germany border. Delicious German dishes eaten in this beautiful authentic restaurant Gasthof Gries run by one family. We ate work dishes. Beautiful outdoor terrace.

Hello, It's quite nice to sit outside there. However, the lentil soup was quite sour and the deer ravioli from the daily menu was not at all price/performance ratio.

Very nice beer garden, somewhat overwhelmed service. Food is good, but clearly too expensive. Very dark in the guest room.

I can only report positive things. Super hospitable, great food. I think the price is a bit excessive. Otherwise tip top. I can recommend it to everyone.

Unser spontaner Besuch am Abend wurde leider ein Flop. Das Restaurant in Mitten der historischen Kulisse macht von außen einen soliden Eindruck. Die Karte eher deftig und gutbürgerlich, aber mit einigen modernen Gerichten. Da wir nicht reserviert hatten wurden wir an einen Tisch mit anderen Gästen platziert. Das war okay, allerdings warteten wir auf Karte schon 15min, bis die Getränke und Essen aufgenommen worden weitere 15, dann 10min bis die Getränke kamen und das Essen gar 35min. Der Laden war gut gefüllt, aber tendenziell war noch Luft. Als Essen bestellten wir Schnitzel und Cordon Blue. Beides eine Enttäuschung. Fettig vom Schmalz, viel zu kross, trocken da ultradünn gehämmert und Panade ohne Luft. In Wien wäre das ne glatte Sechs. Dazu keine Beilagen, einfach nur traurig. Für 50€ war das ein Satz mit x.

Very nice place, normal price, only that the day we went in the afternoon, they no longer had the Schweinsaxe 🤷‍♂️. Quite small portions for the price. The waitresses were very stressed but they tried to be friendly, there was a young waitress who was not friendly at all, we hope that perhaps on the next visit everything will improve.

Unfortunately, the meat on the grill plate and the Swabian pan was fried to death! The service was friendly and quick.

It was a huge surprise to find half a duck so tender and crispy and fried to perfection. Simply 😋 😋 😋

So in advance. Card payment is not possible. But I wouldn't give it a negative point for that. But that should be possible by 2024. Unfortunately, I was really dissatisfied or unlucky when it came to eating. I just chose the turkey schnitzel instead of the normal one because it had herb sauce. There was so little herb sauce that it was barely noticeable under the lemon. Unfortunately the food was stacked. Actually, it speaks absolutely positively for a restaurant if the plates are preheated. But not if the salad is stacked between a hot plate and hot schnitzel with hash browns, so that it is almost warmer than the warm dish. Unfortunately the salad was not edible. It simply makes more sense in a separate bowl. Schnitzel and Rösti weren't bad but not special either. Unfortunately the portion was too small for the price without salad. Points for the ambience, as you sit nicely. Music that plays really too loud while you eat. But a matter of taste. Service nice and friendly. However, a little more staff would probably help the waiting time. We ate for two and when one was finished, the other came.

We go there often and always eat excellent food. Without long words, I can recommend it to everyone with a clear conscience. It makes sense to reserve a table in advance by telephone.

Nice beer garden with nice service. The cheese spaetzle tasted very good, nice and creamy and not too spicy. The browned meat loaf was also delicious. The portion sizes were sufficient.

Every now and then the drinks are forgotten or no one comes past the table. The Kaiserschmarrn is highly recommended A year later I was back at Gasthof Grieß, service was great, food was very good and plentiful. We got a table at short notice even though it was very full.

Great Bavarian restaurant with a cozy atmosphere in Mittenwald's "old town".

The staff were friendly and attentive. We had a positive impression of the restaurant. Unfortunately, you couldn't order everything from the menu for dinner. It can certainly happen, it was quite late. The wait for our food was quite long, but the restaurant was also very busy. The food was good, unfortunately a little too little for the price.

This year we were at the Gasthof Gries again. And then three evenings in a row! But the food, the ambience and also the quick ladies made it impossible for us to go somewhere else in the evening. Many thanks again to Claudia for the apricot schnapps “You two are due today” 😄 We will definitely come back next time we visit Mittenwald!

The portion was definitely not enough! The food was tasty, but the portion was too small. Three small dumplings on a little salad! Either you make the dumplings bigger or the salad more lush. But unfortunately that wasn't enough for the price of €18.90!

During our visit today to the really nice Gasthaus im Gries, half of the duck from the daily recommendation was almost raw and still inedible after trying it three times, so I can't recommend this place to anyone!!!!!

Very friendly reception. Table service great. The Mittenwalder Cordon bleu filled with Obazter was a feast for the eyes in terms of taste. A 10 out of 10. Highly recommended.

The food was really very tasty. I had the roast pork, which was really excellent, but in my opinion there was a bit too little quantity. Maybe it was because I was very hungry, but two slices of roast, a handful of red cabbage and a small dumpling weren't enough to fill me up. I would come back at any time, but I wouldn't order that dish again.

After reading so many positive reviews, we wanted to eat there today. At 5 p.m. there were only two tables occupied in the outdoor area; the other guests had already eaten, which you could see from the empty plates on their tables. The two conditions (an older lady with light hair and a younger, slightly rounder woman with dark hair) initially stood comfortably at the entrance and chatted, after about 10 minutes the local village musician was warmly greeted and immediately served. In the meantime we had taken the cards ourselves from the neighboring table and chose food and drinks. We were therefore well prepared to tell the waitress our order. The lady with the dark hair had now disappeared into the restaurant and the other lady was busy setting up the other tables outside. After more than 15 minutes we decided to leave the restaurant and will definitely not visit this restaurant again. By the way, the guests at the table in front of us were so annoyed that they went into the restaurant to pay... keep it up...

Very nice restaurant with a typical Bavarian look. The food was very tasty and there was even a free fruit schnapps for my birthday.
