Gasthaus Zum Schwanen is a charming and cozy restaurant in Garmisch with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent, the portions generous, and the service friendly and attentive. Overall, it made for a very enjoyable meal, and I’d highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

The food was okay. Nothing more than average. The waitress was friendly until she felt she received too little tip. I've never been treated more disrespectfully in a restaurant since then.

With every 5-star review, it certainly becomes even more difficult to get a seat. But anything else would be a lie. Delicious, refined food, attentive and friendly service, and a modern, traditional ambiance. I'd gladly go back!

The food is really good and prepared to a high standard. However, the prices are clearly geared toward tourists – a side salad for €7 is quite steep. However, those willing to pay a little more will get solid food in a pleasant atmosphere.

In this highly touristy area, it's actually quite difficult to find a place where you can enjoy excellent food. The "Zum Schwanen" inn is a definite exception! We eat here often and have always had excellent meals. The menu is relaxed and straightforward, and the prices are reasonable. The local dishes are of very good quality and creatively presented. The service is excellent. Reservations are recommended. In good weather, you can sit under umbrellas at the bread market.

And now to Monica...I've had many waitresses in my life...she's not only incredibly pretty...she also does remarkable work, with such calmness and endless friendliness.

Definitely worth a visit! We arrived just before the kitchen closed (9 p.m. - as of 8:25 a.m.) and were still not turned away. The ambiance inside was very pleasantly timey, the lighting perfectly suited the mood. The service was very prompt and friendly, and the food, all in all, was very good: For starters, we had bread with herb butter and the "Hearty Beef Broth from Tafelspitz," both of which were very good. However, the herb butter was quite thick, which made it difficult to spread. The broth was very good, with fritaten and "Weißwurst dumplings" (white sausage dumplings) and fresh chives. For main courses, we had the "Original Wiener Schnitzel from Bavarian milk-fed veal," which I (shame on me) ordered with fries instead of potato salad. The schnitzels weren't the biggest, as is typical in most restaurants. They tasted very good, but the breading wasn't crispy and airy as intended, but rather moist and sticky. Hence the deduction for the food. We also had "THE cheese spaetzle," which were fantastic. Delicious onions on top and super creamy cheese. The spaetzle were homemade and therefore particularly good. There was also a side salad, which was particularly good. We can't say what was in some of the ingredients, but it was absolutely delicious. In summary, we can say that it was a very successful visit, with only a few shortcomings. If we ever go back to this area, we'll definitely come back.

The service was very good; even people waiting for tables weren't turned away. Drinks were offered at times. We were lucky and a seat was free. The food—starter, salad dressing, soup, and main courses—were all very, very good. The wait wasn't very long either. I highly recommend it, top-notch.

An excellent restaurant with very good German cuisine. The service is excellent and always strives to make your evening as pleasant as possible. Everyone in our group was more than delighted with the individual dishes, which were of excellent quality. Reservations are recommended, as almost all tables were booked.

Very warm welcome, especially when you don't speak a word of German! Very pleasant setting on the terrace in August. Very good value for money, the plates are very generous, we enjoyed Bavarian dishes. A bit like our Flemish estaminets in France, don't hesitate to stop there before or after a stroll in the old town.

We just had lunch at the Schwanen on a recommendation. Almost all the tables were occupied. We were served quickly. The vegetarian dishes are particularly excellent. My husband ordered the Córdon Bleu, I had the mushroom tart, and we shared a side salad. It all came together. My husband really enjoyed it, and I also tried the fries, which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. He said the portion could have been bigger, but he was still full ☺️ My tart was beautifully presented; it was truly something special. I liked the details, like the pickled vegetables. It was tasty. The side salad felt like it had been dressed for a while; it could have been a bit crispier. The service was friendly.

On a recent holiday in Germany we stayed two days in Fussen to visit King Ludwig's castles and take the lake cruise. Walking round the town we found this restaurant where we enjoyed the first evening's meal so much we booked for the second night as well. The Head Waiter speaks excellent English, welcomed us warmly and gave us some helpful advice. The food and service were first class. The atmosphere was just what one should experience - couples, small groups and families clearly enjoying an evening meal together in a quiet environment. Highly recommended.

Great experience. Friendly welcome. The terrace was always full. We were lucky to find a small table available. The incredibly friendly waiter goes out of his way to find everyone a good spot. We were no exception, moving from our too-small table to a larger one. And the food is truly delicious. Definitely try the schnitzel here. We were about to order it, but the waiter's recommendation made it impossible to resist.

After being so impressed last year, we reserved a table again for this vacation. We arrived, ordered sparkling wine, and ordered the main course, including drinks. The sparkling wine arrived and was delicious, but now you're losing sight of the service. The candles aren't lit. Little things that make a big difference. The main course arrives, but there's no cutlery yet. The drinks are also missing. The best meal in the world isn't complete without tools and the right drink. We asked, and the drinks finally arrived. The food was good as usual, but we sat there with empty plates for a relatively long time. We then paid, and by the time we got up, the table was already being set. A little more time to leave would have been appropriate. I hope that the abysmal service on this day remains an exception. Good food alone isn't enough.

Average. Efficient and fast service, but the beef paupiettes weren't very tender... We were also charged €1 for asking to replace my partner's dumplings with fries (fries that the restaurant already serves with several of its other dishes...). It's only €1, but it's not very commercial in principle, since it's neither an extra charge, nor more expensive than the standard side dish, nor a very "special" request; just plain fries...

Non parlando tedesco il gestore mi ha fatto trovare la seconda e la terza sera il menù in italiano. Mi ha risevato un tavolo le due sere successive alla prima. Carne molto buona e servita bene. Ottimi ravioli con formaggio e spinaci; ottimo l'involtino di cavolo verzo con carne macinata; ottimi i cavoli in pastella e l'involtino di manzo con verdure. Tutto fatto in casa e cucinato al momento. Rapporto prezzo qualità buono. Spero di ritornare. Comunque lo consiglio.

I actually wanted to order meatballs, but unfortunately they were sold out. So I decided on the baked pike. The fish was just about okay, the potato salad wasn't great. The one from Aldi tastes better. The staff is totally weird, and the guests are cringe-worthy and bother you while you eat, like antisocial people. Probably just the thing for uptight squares. Goodbye.

Very friendly service, if there is not a table immediately available they make you wait in a dedicated area and within a short time they make you sit down.
