Very nice ambience, food was good, service was very friendly.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a large knuckle of pork at 20.30. I was really looking forward to it.

Today we simply missed the warmth, hospitality, and smiles. We also had to constantly make ourselves known to order. We would have loved to stay longer, but it was easier to pay the bill than order more drinks. We also missed the very attentive Christopher (who unfortunately moved to St. Bartolomé), whom we had grown fond of over the years through many visits. What a shame.

Two of us ate knuckle of pork. It was the best in our lives. The service was also super friendly and they often asked if everything was okay. The beer was good too. We will come again. (Also recommended after a long mountain hike; we were previously on the Göll.)

We attended a local evening in the large hall of the Gasthaus Unterstein. I didn't eat anything, but the portions served were quite generous. You can also order snacks. The local evening was a success. There was live music, and the Funtensee traditional costume club performed beautiful Bavarian dances and Schuhplattler. It was a wonderful evening. Despite the full hall, the service was prompt and friendly.

Top-notch, goulash with dumplings is a dream. Burgers are excellent. Great beer. Highly recommended.

A holiday in the Berchtesgaden region is simply a MUST. We went there twice, once to the beer garden with traditional brass music. It's beautifully situated, the food is delicious, and we were never bored. The band was fantastic. Then came the local evening... you do need to make a reservation for this :) but it's definitely worth it. The local traditional costume clubs put on their best performances; it was a simply fantastic evening, and the service here in the hall was always very friendly, and the food was absolutely reasonably priced. If we ever make it back to the Berchtesgaden region, we'll definitely stop here again. We highly recommend it.

Our first contact with the waiter was "Do you have a reservation?" After we said no, we were told we could order and eat, but we had a maximum of one hour. The food arrived quickly, but the goulash was tough, the roulade was dry, and the bread dumplings were very hard. Once, and never again.

We spontaneously stopped by the beer garden there. From start to finish, the waitresses were very attentive, friendly, and always eager to please. There was live music, and our dog was immediately given water and a treat. If you're in the area, you absolutely have to stop by.

My son recommended that I have one of the best knuckles of pork he's ever eaten there. 🫡 My husband had the snack platter, and I also recommend it. .....it was a delight 😋 -> see pictures The next day we went back and had the Kaiserschmarrn and the potato Voglersalat with the fried chicken. This was also very tasty and looked great. Our dog was given water and treats by the attentive and courteous waiters. For me, this is the most beautiful beer garden in Schönau. The food, drinks, and service are phenomenal!

Perhaps I forgot about a guest in a restaurant? I was dependent on the restaurant as a single guest because everything else was closed and I needed food. The waiters weren't very happy about it. I didn't feel welcome at all, but rather guilty for wanting to spend my money there. Understaffed, staff rushing around like crazy, creating a tense atmosphere. The food is just what you get in German restaurants, only more expensive. It's unlikely to change much anyway, as the selection is limited.

Excellent food at Gasthaus Unterstein! The wheat beer cream soup with scampi and the chanterelle cream soup were excellent. The cheese dumplings and crispy roast pork were simply fantastic. Very friendly and attentive service – highly recommended.

The staff was extremely friendly. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and shown to a table. The only downside was the pork knuckle, which unfortunately turned out a bit dry.

In short, we weren't that satisfied. The burgers were very good, but the knuckle of pork was unfortunately not at all good. €25.90 for a large knuckle is simply too much when it only comes with a small dumpling and no sauerkraut or salad. The knuckle was indeed very large, but could have been more tender. Therefore, we won't be returning.

There are better value restaurants around Berchtesgaden. Fries were too salty with the burger, and the Schweinsbratl served in an awkward pan where skin was chewy rather than crunchy !

Not really satisfied In my opinion, many dishes aren't freshly prepared on-site, but are delivered frozen and warmed up here in-house. I wouldn't recommend the Kaiserschmarrn or the dumplings.

We've been enjoying Unterstein for years and have been coming here often. Whether it's for a local folklore evening, other events, or just a "normal" evening, the staff is always on the ball and very friendly!! The food is amazing 👌🏼 We always look forward to Unterstein and, of course, the entire staff 😍 Keep up the good work!!!

The food was okay. But we expected more. Dry ribs, tough steak, but a delicious chicken skewer! That, along with the sauces, saved the grill. The fish tasted mediocre and a bit like a pond, but the burger was good. The beer was delicious, of course. Service was very friendly. Maybe the time was just not right.

We tried several dishes, and all were delicious, beautifully presented, and absolutely worth the price. On Tuesday evening, we visited the Gasthaus Unterstein. We received a very friendly welcome and were seated at a table in the large, beautiful beer garden. The menu offered a very wide selection of dishes, with something for every taste. Dinner was delicious for all of us, and it was a wonderfully pleasant evening with Bavarian music and very friendly service. We highly recommend this place, and we'd love to come back!

The food overall seemed rather lackluster, while the ambiance was excellent. The restaurant's prices are on the slightly higher side, so we arrived with high expectations – and were unfortunately disappointed. The food was served lukewarm. With dishes like goulash and roast pork, it shouldn't have been a problem to bring them to the table hot. The pans were probably not preheated, which caused the food to cool quickly. The crust of the roast pork was also difficult to cut in the pan. The fact that the coleslaw sauce ran over the roast also didn't help the already cold meat maintain its temperature. The already flavorless sauce lost all of its flavor when mixed with the coleslaw. The pans are perhaps not the best way to serve it. The portion sizes also gave cause for criticism: The goulash consisted of only five pieces of meat – barely enough to fill you up. In contrast, the children's dishes were surprisingly large. The overall flavor lacked spice and heartiness. Without salt and pepper, the appetite for eating was lost. The soup was also rather thin and lacking in flavor. We lost our appetite for dessert during the main course – fearing further disappointment. We would like to highlight the dumplings: They were excellently prepared and flavorful. Unfortunately, they couldn't save the overall experience.

After a phone call, we were able to reserve a table for three people plus a large dog. Upon arrival, after taking a wrong turn into the beer garden, we were kindly escorted to the dining room. A perfect spot for both dogs and humans. The food was fantastic. Burgers, onion roast beef, and roast pork were truly perfect. Especially after the disappointment at another restaurant in town, this was a true treat. Very friendly service, pleasant music, and a great atmosphere. We'll be back! The food was absolutely delicious; Unterstein is a must-visit in Schönau. The staff were very attentive and friendly (thanks, Anna). The atmosphere is fantastic, complemented by the live music. Since we've been here for two weeks and enjoyed it so much, I've included more pictures of the food, which has always been a culinary delight.

I'm super happy with everything. Great food, great service, great value for money. Simply everything is top-notch. And you can also pay by card, because some people complained about it. The reception is different in the mountains. The service team works together perfectly. A perfect team. All in all, tip-top 👌🏼 I love being there and would gladly come back.

Despite the full guest book, as there was a local folklore evening with a show scheduled that evening, we were given a very friendly welcome without a reservation. Water was immediately brought for our dog without being asked. When other guests arrived with dogs, they were considerate and escorted into the hall from the other side. We were served by Steffi, and I can only say that this is what service looks like. Thank you 👍

Visits to Unterstein have been a staple of our vacations for years. A great beer garden, delicious Bavarian cuisine. The homemade lemonade and the roast beef with onions are especially recommended, but the burgers are also delicious. The service is fast, always friendly, and with a smile, even when the place is "on fire." We always enjoy coming back!

Today was rib day, they were very tasty and a good portion. The children's portion of pasta in tomato sauce was very good and sufficient for our daughter. Card payments were accepted without any problems. We'll be back.

A nice beer garden in itself, but it was very busy that evening and we couldn't choose our own table. The drinks arrived very quickly - we had barely ordered them and they were at the table. But the food took a very long time, even though our table only ordered salads and a few sandwiches. My salad cost over 6 euros and consisted of a small bowl of almost entirely green leaf lettuce and half a cocktail tomato. The 3 small sandwiches with butter and grated horseradish, also for 6.90, were also quite expensive. The wait for them was at least 45 minutes. The friendly staff and the good weather made up for a lot.

We were here for dinner today. It was quite delicious. We had roast pork. Unfortunately, the food wasn't very warm, and the coleslaw was a bit hard. You couldn't pay by card, which is a bit backward for such a large restaurant. Bavaria isn't really up to date in this regard.

Tonight at the Gasthaus Unterstein...I had pork knuckle with bread dumplings, and my wife had asparagus cordon bleu. Fantastic, great quality and outstanding service. I even ordered more of the excellent sauce. An authentic inn that I highly recommend!

Aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Meinungen die hier zu lesen sind waren wir zuerst ein bisschen skeptisch, wollten uns aber eine eigene Meinung bilden. Wir können uns den sehr guten Beurteilungen nur anschließen. Insbesondere das Serviceteam war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. auch was aus der Küche kam, war sehr gut und in einen Zeitrahmen der keine Wünsche offen lässt. Beeindruckend war auch die offen einzusehende Küche. Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Abend in einem schönen Ambiente und kommen bestimmt wieder. Dem gesamten Team vielen Dank dafür. Das einzige was ich vielleicht ein bisschen negativ bewerte ist dass man nur Barzahlung akzeptiert. Das ist aber nicht dem Team anzulasten, hier müssten die Eigentümer aktiv werden. It just lacked taste. Small portions that don't taste as good, but are priced like a Michelin restaurant. Service was top, friendly and attentive.
