Fränk'ness in Nürnberg

We recently visited Fränk'ness in Nuremberg and, given its upscale price range, had correspondingly high expectations for the overall experience. Our table was quite small and very close to the other guests, which made the atmosphere feel somewhat hectic. We had asked if a cut of meat could be substituted during the meal; the server checked with the kitchen, but unfortunately, an adjustment wasn't possible. We enjoyed the pike-perch ceviche, although it was more of a modern interpretation than a classic ceviche. We noticed a few details in the service that didn't quite live up to the restaurant's usual standards: the cutlery for the main course was served over the soup plate, and the table was cleared while we were still at the table. We also would have appreciated a more personal farewell when leaving. Unfortunately, the cooking levels of the main courses didn't quite match our order – the duck breast was overcooked, and the beef fillet was more medium than medium-rare. Furthermore, we were surprised that, for a 250g beef fillet costing almost €60, the sauce and side dishes had to be ordered and paid for separately. Our conclusion: Overall, the visit was okay, but we see room for improvement in the value for money and in accommodating individual guest requests. For the price range, we had hoped for a more cohesive overall experience. We will not be returning.

We were invited to brunch at Fränk'ness in Nuremberg, a restaurant by celebrity chef Alexander Herrmann. As casual foodies, we're pretty much your average folks, so we were quite curious about what to expect. After a friendly welcome and being given our winter coats, we were shown to our table, which was already lavishly set. We were promptly offered a glass of sparkling wine, the head chef gave a short speech explaining the day's program, and then the brunch began. The sumptuous breakfast was followed by a whole array of savory, expertly prepared delicacies such as ramen noodles, char, trout, and roast beef, interspersed with sweet treats like cinnamon rolls, Kaiserschmarrn, sorbet, and panna cotta. These were accompanied by a choice of delicious drinks, including wine, beer, specialty coffees, and lemonade. We were so impressed by the flavors and variety that we continued to feast despite starting to feel full. What we didn't like so much was the service, which seemed somewhat unfocused, forgot orders, or started arguing with us about who was right about what we'd ordered. Having to use your salad utensils again for the main course is something I'm familiar with from the Greek restaurant next door, but I hadn't expected at Fränk'ness. Nevertheless, it was a lovely, enjoyable day in Nuremberg, and I think we'll come back to Fränk'ness again.

We had reserved a table for 7:15 pm. Unfortunately, a table wasn't available yet. We didn't receive our first drinks until 7:50 pm. The service seemed disorganized, bordering on aimless. Orders weren't served in a coordinated manner. Although soups were poured from small pots into pre-warmed bowls, they were still only lukewarm. Overall, the quality and quantity of the food served were completely disproportionate to the sometimes grotesquely high prices. €39 for a small piece of vegetarian "steak" is outrageous. Many side dishes didn't appear freshly prepared, and the meat and fish were blandly seasoned. Franconian cuisine was severely underrepresented on the menu, and there was only one house beer on tap. Furthermore, the seating position at the table was uncomfortable because the chairs were a bit too low. All in all, a very disappointing experience that was definitely not worth the €390 for six people. We therefore cannot recommend this restaurant. Alexander Herrmann should definitely reconsider the concept.

We had delicious steaks, but at €39 for 150g without any sides, we wouldn't go there again for steak. It just wasn't spectacular enough. Maybe if they offer a different menu sometime. The service, however, was absolutely top-notch.

Highly recommended! We stumbled upon this restaurant quite by chance – and were immediately impressed. The food was incredibly delicious, authentically Franconian, fresh, and beautifully presented. You can tell that they cook with quality and great care. The service was very friendly and attentive from the start; we didn't have to wait long and felt completely at ease. A very special thank you to Ms. Winterstein, who took such excellent care of us – attentive, warm, and professional. We will definitely be back! This restaurant is definitely on our to-do list when we visit Nuremberg. A clear recommendation!

The food was delicious as always, but the service was truly abysmal. You have to wait an incredibly long time before someone comes to take your order, and this continues all the way to paying. That's why this was our last time there.

For the price, the service and food were unfortunately only okay. I wouldn't recommend it.

Tonight was my first time at Fränk'ness – and I'm in love! I'm an omnivore at home, but vegetarian when I'm out. I was invited to dinner and had chosen vegetarian. I'd never eaten a veggie steak before – until today! To make sure I don't forget the taste of the plant-based steak made with refined meat, I'll continue to avoid it!! That was the absolute highlight of my evening. So delicious – just like meat!!!! And then there were the staff and their t-shirts. Oh, everything was so lovely!! Thank you!!

"More style than substance" The chicken and char were cooked perfectly. The steak, unfortunately, was tough. It felt like you were chewing it endlessly, and it just kept expanding in your mouth. The onion and potato soups were a total disappointment. Cafeteria quality. The onion soup, in particular, was simply not seasoned well at all. It was like instant soup. The cucumber salad was also a complete disappointment. The dressing was totally watered down. The cucumbers weren't crisp anymore and tasted like they'd been sitting out for hours after being sliced. Price: €160 Next time, I'd rather go to EkkuIn or Sanders Steakhouse for that price.

We went there after seeing it on Google Maps, but once we arrived, we regretted it a thousand times. I ordered onion soup. The visual presentation was quite impressive, but it was honestly the saltiest and most tasteless soup I’ve ever had, and there was barely any onion in it. I couldn’t eat it. If there’s no flavor, visual show means nothing. All the drinks we had — pear blackberry mocktail and cherry cinnamon — were also very, very bad. We deeply regretted going there.

We had a wonderful lunch together in a cozy atmosphere. Tanja's service was perfect. Excellent wine recommendation…everything was wonderful.

We stumbled upon Fränkness by chance and received an exceptionally warm welcome. We were then served a delicious salad and a perfectly cooked duck breast. We were even offered a taste of the red wine before deciding whether to order it, and the seating area is truly lovely. It was a wonderful visit all around. They also offered a reasonably priced lunch. We will definitely be back!

A very relaxed, top-class restaurant with exceptionally friendly and attentive staff, unusual recipes (onion soup, steak tartare), and many delicious small plates. Overall, a wonderful evening at Fränk'ness.

We went here for New Year's Eve dinner. The restaurant was in a fantastic central location. The service was excellent – ​​fast, attentive, and cheerful. The food was delicious; the duck was a little tough, but the fillet, side dishes, sauces, and dessert were all absolutely delicious. The music was a bit too loud for our taste, and the playlist wasn't quite right. But we had a wonderful evening with great food and would definitely come back. The bill for the two of us, including drinks, dessert, and tip, came to €180.

We were there yesterday, just the two of us. Thank you for this pleasant stay. The food was simply wonderful, especially the beetroot salad and the tomatoes in the stir-fried vegetables – a dream! Of course, all the other dishes were also excellent, like the pickled cauliflower that came with the pike-perch. The staff was attentive and thoughtful. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. If I were lucky enough to live in Nuremberg, I would come every week. I'd love to come back on my next visit to Nuremberg.

Thank you so much for the interesting glimpse into the bar area. My favorite food is fish, in all its variations. I ordered a fish pan with winter salad and sparkling wine from a local vintner. The food was perfectly seasoned, and the sparkling wine was the perfect finishing touch. For me, it was a wonderful start to my experience in Nuremberg. The service was always readily available whenever needed. All in all: A truly memorable experience. 👍 Having had to review the tax situation of several such businesses, I know what an incredibly tough daily routine the staff faces. They're just people, like you and me. They work so that we feel warmly welcomed at any time of day or night. Thank you all.

The food tasted good, no complaints there. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the positives end. Despite having a reservation, the restaurant was so overcrowded that we barely managed to get a table. The organization seemed chaotic and clearly overwhelmed. Consequently, the service left much to be desired. We not only had to wait a very long time for our order to be taken, but also just as long for the bill. For a restaurant in this price range, that's simply unacceptable. In our opinion, the value for money isn't there: the prices are high, while the service is significantly below average. The wine was good quality and cost around €100. When we asked about the opened bottle, it wasn't properly repackaged or professionally prepared for takeaway. Here, too, the care one would expect at this price point was lacking. In conclusion: Good food, but inadequate service and poor organization. At these prices, good food alone isn't enough. There's considerable room for improvement.

A bit pricey, but still recommendable, delicious dishes.

It's a nice place in itself, but we paid €70 per person for mediocre food. Why? Because everything costs extra, even the sauce for the main course was €7. And the main course itself already cost €39. I would have expected the sauce or a side dish to be included.

Amazing restaurant, by coincidence we at there 3 nights in a row and the food was amazing every time. File, duck and prime rib. All amazing. Service great!

The worst service I've ever experienced. I never leave negative reviews, but the service was such a disaster that I have to. I ate dessert with my dinner plates without clearing them, and they brought my meal without the wine (even though I'd ordered it 25 minutes earlier). An absolute disaster. As for the food, it was nothing special.

The food is consistently excellent. I've rarely eaten so well. No frills, just down-to-earth cuisine reinterpreted and of the highest quality. However, the service is not commensurate with the price (I sat in the restaurant for 15 minutes before anyone asked about drinks, waited an hour for the appetizer without any "just a moment," and the staff were dressed in T-shirts and gossiping while the place was packed). Sorry, but that's not worth the price.

We visited this restaurant for the first time on a recommendation. The food was absolutely outstanding. Despite our expectations, we were very pleasantly surprised. The service was also exceptional. Tanja looked after us throughout our visit and made it a truly enjoyable experience. We also had the opportunity to chat with the chef, Loraine, who prepared the food with love and perfection. The ambiance was also very inviting and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

I personally did not like the food. The duck was swimming in blood and my beetroot salad was very sour. My tea and cosmopolitan drink were good. Staff is friendly but the overall service felt slow. They did offer to fix it but I was at that point too hungry to wait again. Personally I would not recommend. Although the atmosphere is cozy, you need to be prepared to stink as whatever it is served there which is not something I appreciate.

Hello, my wife and I were there two weeks ago. We had a wonderful time, the staff was fantastic, and the food was great. I would drive from Leverkusen to Nuremberg just for the dessert (apple strudel). Thank you so much for the wonderful time we spent at your restaurant. P.S. Very attentive and friendly waiters. They can speak English, apart from German, without any problems. The restaurant has a modern vibe to it. The food was good, but on the upper scale price-wise. If you don't mind spending a bit more, then this is the perfect restaurant to have a nice evening.

A very good choice in the center of Nuremberg, a fresh start with a rosé sparkling wine from the Am Stein winery, we would also be pleased with a larger selection of wines by the glass in the Silvaner, Riesling or Pinot Noir varieties, but we had a very good Cuvée from the Pfalz. The food is excellent at a reasonable price-quality ratio, Alexander Hermann's signature is evident.

We were there last night (Saturday during peak hours) and were absolutely thrilled. The service was top-notch, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was divine. The four of us had the Exporten Brettla (a mixed grill) and it was a truly memorable experience. Everything was beautifully presented. The flavors of the dishes were simply wow! 🤩

We had a very good meal; we started with a salad and beef tartare. Both were delicious. For our main course, we had Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) and the goat cheese pan. The atmosphere was great, and Tanja's service was excellent.

I was absolutely shocked. The food was a complete disaster, and then to top it off, it cost €190 for a lunch for five people, each only getting a drink. The taste was awful. Canteen food is better. It was an absolute disgrace. The chef should find another profession. It was awful from beginning to end. I'm furious and sad that €190 wasted. It's truly sad that a chef would serve something like this, no matter how much he cares or he's happy.

Franconian-inspired cuisine with a modern twist. Delicious. The restaurant is very centrally located and has a bright, modern interior, contrasting with the whitewashed brick walls. There are private dining rooms with unique themes. Our server, Tanja, was very attentive and friendly. The only downside: you need to allow plenty of time; we were there for a total of two hours.

Great food (Franconian Burger Deluxe and stone-baked fish pan), plus delicious homemade lemonade. The warm and friendly service greets you as soon as you walk in. Thanks to Loraine in the kitchen/at the pass and to the lovely Tanja in the front of house.

That was an exceptionally lovely evening in Nuremberg. We were served a delicious autumnal menu, accompanied by fine wines. We thoroughly enjoyed our Franconian experience.

Unfortunately, much worse than expected. The reviews were excellent, and what we'd heard seemed to confirm it, especially since we're talking about a more upscale restaurant. We didn't receive any drink menus (only after asking), and only 4 out of 5 of our group received a food menu. Two of the steaks we ordered were cooked incorrectly. Mine was cooked correctly at first, but unfortunately, it was tough and overcooked in most places (I ordered it medium). The side dish (garlic bread) was also over-toasted (though it was actually quite tasty). Our drinks were empty, and we weren't asked if we wanted more. Towards the end of our meal, two more people spontaneously joined us for drinks, but they weren't greeted or offered a seat. The price simply doesn't reflect the quality. It's a shame, really, because there are definitely much better restaurants around here.

The four-course menu was very, very good (€82 per person). And with the spiced bread (absolutely fantastic) and the herbed cream cheese beforehand, we were very full.

We arrived at Fränk'ness on a whim, without a reservation, and were immediately given a table at the bar. Perhaps we were just lucky – but we were delighted nonetheless. The food was excellent, and we were truly satisfied with a shared appetizer and a main course each. We simply couldn't have eaten dessert. It was fascinating to watch the chefs at work, and they even took the time to chat with us. Thank you. The waitstaff could have checked in more often, but at least we received an (unsolicited) apology. Of course, we would have loved to have met Mr. Hermann there – perhaps next time. 😉 Dear Mr. Hermann, if you get in touch with us, we would be happy to share with you privately what we didn't find so positive – it would be unfair to discuss it all here.

So the service deserves 10 more stars. Both our server (we think her name is Hanni) and the wonderful cook. As far as I can tell, given my own intolerances, I haven't eaten more varied food in a long time. Everything was checked, discussed with me, and the food was great! The short conversations were also helpful. You almost feel like a thief with allergies, especially when changing your order... Truly, we've rarely been treated so kindly and accommodatingly, and no other restaurant is as helpful. Plus, the great show kitchen, the lovely atmosphere, and the high quality of the food – wonderful! Thank you for the evening and the excellent food!

Super delicious, the staff very accommodating as we were using a wheelchair. The restroom is easily accessible via the elevator. The lunch was super delicious, and I would gladly come back.

Despite having a reservation, we were seated at a "cat table" in a remote corner of the restaurant. For an aperitif, I had a non-alcoholic Spritz, which was good, and my husband had a non-alcoholic beer. We chose the four-course menu. Delicious warm bread with spread arrived as a welcome from the kitchen. The appetizer was shrimp in tomato sauce – it was ice cold and tasted okay. For the starter, we had vegetables from the stone oven, which was OK. I ordered a house soda to go with it. The main course was veal cheeks with new potatoes. Unfortunately, it tasted like it had been warmed over, and the potatoes were hard inside. The sauce also lacked flavor. I then ordered a different soda, with apple. Unfortunately, it felt like sawdust in the mouth. For dessert, my husband ordered an espresso – which never arrived. The dessert, according to the menu, was vanilla ice cream with cheesecake foam. What arrived was vanilla ice cream in a glass with a visually indefinable mush and 10 chocolate balls. What a shame, we were so excited :-(

We were at Fränk'ness for the opening dinner ahead of the it-sa trade fair, and it was fantastic. The menu was incredibly delicious and, as mentioned in some other reviews, sophisticated. The Nuremberg chefs were truly impressive with their sauerkraut for the starter, and the duck for the main course was spot on! The Kaiserschmarrn (smothered pancakes) was different than expected, but it rounded off the dinner beautifully. The service was very friendly and always prompt. A complete success!
