I wasn't at the Schulauer Fährhaus but at the fish sandwich stand next door.

Beautiful ambiance, fitting for the surroundings. Learned a lot while greeting and bidding farewell to the ships. The restaurant is full of information and pictures from days gone by. Service was courteous and quick.

We stayed at the Fährhaus with 8 people, including 2 small children. The food and service were good. The spot on the terrace was a bit unfortunate. Even though the plastic tarpaulins were closed, it was extremely drafty, which was especially noticeable when the heaters were off, which was unfortunately quite often. The coded access to the restrooms is also poorly designed. The keypad is too small, especially for seniors. We were unlucky that the door wouldn't open even after entering the code. The worst thing, however, was that despite spending over 300 euros on food, we still had to pay a 3-euro parking fee (we had 3 cars, so 9 euros). Parking should be free for guests who eat. Anything else is a rip-off.

We visited the NEUE Schulauer Fährhaus restaurant on September 9, 2025. The food was not recommended for the price: the plaice was dry, the veal schnitzel was too thick and completely tasteless, and the salad had no dressing. Not recommended due to poorly prepared food at high prices, plus parking fees for guests.

It was really nice to see and hear how large ships were welcomed in Wedel upon arrival and also bid farewell upon departure with the anthem of the respective country.

My experience with the Fährhaus snack bar: Sunday, early afternoon, beautiful late summer weather, while strolling through Wedel, I glanced at the snack bar's menu: fish and chips, I'm hungry now ;) It's a food truck, so it's self-service. A "pager" to pick up the food, while I search for a seat: all the free tables were dirty or occupied with used dishes. Well, the dish return was also jam-packed, a vicious cycle. Then we picked up our plated meal. "Really, are they serious?" My first thought. Yes, I'll pay for the location, but even for €9, you can put in a bit more effort. And the cake fork was just the icing on the cake. The fish sandwiches that were eaten around looked good, and were nicely presented in fake newspaper. But I can't comment on that, because I had 7 mini fish nuggets with fries carelessly placed on a plate and eaten them with a cake fork, and that was really unpleasant.

Always worth a visit. Very friendly and accommodating service. Lunch and cake are highly recommended. The location is, of course, a factor, but you know that beforehand.

We celebrated a wedding there with over 80 guests on August 23, 2025, and were absolutely delighted. The preparations, service, and food were top-notch. Children, vegans/vegetarians, and allergy sufferers were catered for, and no effort was spared. We were thoroughly satisfied and can only recommend the Neue Schulauer Fährhaus to anyone planning a wedding/celebration or other event and looking for a suitable location.

I couldn't order a portion of fries (€9.50 on the children's menu) because I'm too old for them. The waitress tried very hard to explain, but I still don't understand it. Especially since the price is extortionate in my opinion. I also pointed this out to them. As a result, I was given a handful of fries "for free." I was still hungry, though.

I only went to the beer garden. The service was very friendly, but the portions were very small; I had to order two dishes to feel full. Restrooms were very clean.

You can tell they've put a lot of effort into it, but since it's described as 'new,' I was expecting something different. However, the food is very good. The service is also positive. If you get a table right on the promenade, you can watch the ships go by.

It was a very nice breakfast and a great atmosphere.

We were there on Sunday, August 17, 2025. We wanted to have a leisurely coffee, but that didn't happen. After 45 minutes, we got up and had coffee somewhere else. The staff seemed overwhelmed, even though it was very quiet. They looked over at us, but that was it. They didn't feel like serving us, and other couples were also dissatisfied. We were there for breakfast and can't complain about anything. Everything was great. The only thing that really annoyed us was the parking fee in the restaurant's own parking lot. We had to pay €3.00 or €4.00 depending on when we arrived. I mean, we ate there, and it wasn't exactly cheap, and then as a paying guest you have to pay parking on top of that—it's simply outrageous.

The announcements were incomprehensible. The surroundings were too loud and the speakers were silent.

It's mainly business. We were here on a Saturday and unfortunately, even after an hour of waiting, no large ship playing the anthem of the country under whose flag it sails was passing. We then went to ask the "captain without a ship" (the one who plays the anthems) when one would pass, but it was supposed to be in two hours, so we left. The captain was extremely helpful, nice and helpful, but the same cannot be said about the rest. The restaurant has a direct connection to the waterfront, but for some incomprehensible reason there was a chain and a sign that the area was monitored by cameras. If you wanted to go inside, you had to go around the whole thing. Probably if you don't want to eat there, they don't care about you. Forget that you would just have coffee and lemonade there while waiting for a passing ship. The parking lot is the same, I'm sure there was a sign saying 1 EUR/hour and we paid maybe 5 EUR for that hour. That place is definitely not "willkommen".

A large restaurant with a boat boarding facility right on the Elbe River. The menu is clear and varied. The prices are quite high. My meal was delicious and arrived quickly. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. I was able to pay conveniently by credit card.

We had a sensational wedding celebration with you in Wedel and thank you for a fantastic performance, even with 100 guests in the main ballroom alongside regular business hours. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the service was always attentive and on point. Not only do you have a fantastic location on the Elbe, but you also have a fantastic team. Thanks especially to Cem and Jörn, who were always there for us from the planning stage until the final whistle at 3 a.m.

Everything tasted good. We had breakfast there. Everything was excellent. I highly recommend it! Get your parking ticket stamped; it only costs 1 euro.

Typical tourist restaurant. The ship greetings are original, and you have a beautiful view of the Elbe. The ambiance is as lifeless as the staff. If you don't want a Bavarian snack, there are no snacks or special menus for seniors. It's just as pleasant to sit and enjoy a snack at the snack stand next door.

Typical day-trip restaurant. Overpriced. They also serve cheaper food in the beer garden, which, unsurprisingly, was closed. If you have nothing better to do, for lack of alternatives, you'll get your money's worth. I opted for a piece of cake.

A place with lots of light and even more shadows We had made a reservation for a group of seven people to celebrate a milestone birthday, hoping to end the special day on a high note. Our verdict is unfortunately very mixed, as there were some real bright spots as well as some deep dark spots. What we noticed positively (The Bright Spot): The unique location directly on the Elbe River with a view of the passing ships and the accompanying announcements is and remains fantastic. The food itself was also very delicious for everyone and arrived pleasantly warm. A big compliment also to most of the young waiters, who were very friendly and helpful. What significantly spoiled our experience (The Dark Spot): Despite our reservation, the restaurant seemed unprepared for our group. We had to find our own tables and were only able to arrange them to a limited extent to accommodate everyone. The spot we found was only partially shaded, which resulted in two of us getting sunburned on a hot summer day. The absolute annoyance, however, was the behavior of a single employee, apparently the head waiter. His condescending attitude culminated in two situations: * When I asked to be allowed to order a smaller senior portion because I couldn't manage a regular portion, this was dismissed with the inappropriate comment that I wasn't 12 anymore. * After I couldn't finish the large portion I was forced to order, I asked for the rest to be wrapped up. This was not possible; they could only give me 'a bit of aluminum foil.' The same applied to a piece of cake we wanted to take away. Given the prices and the standards of the establishment, that's an absolute no-go. Although the food was delicious, the value for money of some dishes was questionable. The chanterelle mushroom dishes contained a disappointingly small amount of chanterelle mushrooms for the very high prices. The customer-unfriendly conditions (€1 parking fee per hour despite consumption and a PIN code for the restrooms) complete the negative picture. Conclusion: The beautiful setting and the excellent food are unfortunately overshadowed by serious service deficiencies from a manager and poor organization despite reservations. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot recommend the Schulauer Fährhaus for a special occasion where you want to feel completely at home.

We were a group of 12, and many ordered the Schulauer Pannfisch (cooked fish in a pan). The plate looked very tidy: three small pieces of fish, some fried potatoes, and a thin mustard sauce in a mini sauceboat. I'm not sure what cold cucumber salad was doing on warm fish. The small salad that was served separately was very limp and bland, garnished with a halved cocktail tomato and a few small diced cucumbers. Overall, everything was very carelessly presented. The price of almost €30 was the complete opposite. Our group was extremely disappointed. We mentioned this when paying. The friendly waiter took note of it and wanted to pass it on, and that was it. The value for money wasn't right today; perhaps a substitute cook was on duty. As Hamburgers, we know what good Pannfisch should be like.

A special ambiance with a beautiful view. They serve excellent wines from the Palatinate region. The kitchen is open, allowing you to watch the food being prepared. They also offer set menus. Whether it's an appetizer, main course, or dessert, everything is highly recommended. The ingredients are of high quality and delicately seasoned. Passing ships are greeted and introduced by a retired captain. The prices are high, but reasonable.

There wasn't even a slice of bread with the appetizer. Only after asking several times was a slice served.

We had seen the restaurant beforehand on television. The atmosphere was a bit sobering when we were there, and we didn't eat. Therefore, I can't comment on it. What's nice is the pier overlooking the Elbe and the ship's anthem. I thought it was only for large vessels over 6,000 tons.

Brunch is a no-brainer... Poorly made, sloppy filter coffee, not even a cappuccino or anything similar is included for almost €50... Otherwise, good ideas poorly executed - having an unmotivated chef throw cold pasta into a Parmesan wheel unfortunately doesn't lead to a tasty result! Plates pile up on the tables, no one asks if you want anything else, abysmal... And the food isn't suitable for children at all. Even the view of the Elbe doesn't save it, simply disappointing! It's a shame the ambiance offered so much more potential!

The Schulauer Fährhaus (Ferry House) boasts a relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful view of the Elbe River. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, no matter how busy they are. We really enjoy going there, usually for coffee. The captains at the ship welcoming station always provide interesting information about the ships, which also makes every visit special and deserves special mention! Service, food, coffee/tea/cake, ambiance, everything was great 💙👍

We entered the restaurant very hungry and were served quickly and very professionally. The food was delicious and plentiful. We left feeling stuffed and satisfied. We will definitely go there again as soon as we get the chance.

This is most definitely not a "top secret special" but special it is, and I must say that we enjoyed it to the max our last three times (spanned over a few years, we do not live nearby). The place aims at a slightly upscale level, achieves it foodwise and servicewise and the only deficit were the loose toilet seats. Special feat is a real, experienced Captain at Sea at the controls of the Ship Welcoming System: He is in permanent contact with Hamburg Harbor, can give all details about the passing vessels and their current trip and he is a nice person to talk to. Special thanks this time to Mr. Vasili Zavrakis who served and managed us yesterday evening.

The restaurant itself, however, is getting increasingly dingy. Some of the staff aren't even able to understand an order placed in German. That would be fine if they were at least friendly. But here, it seems as if they're cutting corners everywhere. Given the prices, that's simply inappropriate and overpriced. We've enjoyed going to the Willkommenshöft for years. But since we've had the same bad experiences on several visits, we're now looking for another restaurant. What a shame!

We've been to the Schulauer Fährhaus several times, both for the extensive breakfast brunch and for a relaxed lunch – and every time it was simply perfect. From the moment you arrive, you feel warmly welcomed. The entire team is attentive, professional, and at the same time wonderfully warm – especially to our children, who are always greeted with a smile. This warm child-friendliness is something you don't find everywhere and makes our visits special every time. The weekend brunch is a real highlight: a large selection of freshly prepared delicacies – crispy rolls, croissants, various cold cuts, smoked salmon, egg dishes, pancakes, fresh fruit, and much more. Everything is lovingly prepared and of excellent quality. Our children were particularly enthusiastic about the sweet treats, while we adults were able to sample the diverse buffet. The Schulauer Fährhaus also impresses with its lunch menu. The menu offers a beautiful selection of seasonal and regional dishes that not only look great but also taste outstanding. Each plate is prepared with great attention to detail. The atmosphere is modern yet cozy, with a stunning view of the Elbe River – perfect for enjoying a quiet meal with friends and family. Every time we visited, we felt that everything was just right: the quality of the food, the excellent service, the relaxed atmosphere, and the special hospitality. A place where you simply feel at home – whether for breakfast, lunch, or a quick coffee. A big thank you to the entire team for this consistently high quality and for making such a wonderful time possible for us every time. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

It once was a lovely day-trip restaurant, also suitable for families. Unfortunately, it's now only for those with deep pockets. The parking fee is exorbitant: €5 for an hour. If you eat something worth at least €10 in the restaurant, you have to validate your parking ticket and pay only €1 per hour. To use the restroom, you have to ask the waiter for a code to open the doors. The waiter immediately points to the barcode taped to the table. You have to scan it with your phone to read the menu. So, this has nothing to do with service or customer friendliness. We can no longer recommend the restaurant.

Luckily, we got something to drink. After we had chosen our dishes from the menu, service ended. She walked past us at least seven times, but there was no time to take our orders. So, there was nothing to eat. The condition of the men's restrooms was particularly appalling. We won't be going there again.

If you want to watch ships and sit comfortably, drink, and eat, then you should head to the Willkommen-Höft. Of course, there are other locations like the Alte Liebe in Cuxhaven, but this one is still worth recommending. It always seems to be busy, whether for parties or just the usual crowd. I ate Labskaus here for the first time. I found it a bit bland, but I have no idea what it might have tasted like. The fish soup was delicious, though. The announcements about which ship was passing by weren't always easy to understand, as many guests kept talking and weren't listening.

The food was quite good, but by German standards, very expensive. And serving the wine after the main course is a no-go. Hence two stars deducted. The staff should also be taught how to pronounce French dishes correctly; then they wouldn't have to list them on the menu. And for 48 euros per person, they should serve a Château briand in portions instead of piling it all onto one plate.

After seeing the price of herring, we decided not to go there. €26.90 is excessive, and you're probably paying for the location.

A house with history, a view of the Elbe – and a striking indifference towards its guests. The reception itself is emblematic of the visit: none. Despite repeated requests, no table is assigned; the assembly of our group is left to us. We even do the moving of the tables – a surprisingly sporty feat at these prices. The terrace resembles a field experiment – ​​tables and chairs sway in unison on the uneven ground. Glasses bear water stains, cutlery is carelessly thrown into the middle, and a place setting is completely missing. The service: slow, overwhelmed, and barely reachable. Clearing is done in stages – like a tactical maneuver, not like serving the guest. The food? Solid craftsmanship, but soulless. The roast beef was perfectly cooked, the salad a wild bouquet of arugula – more decoration than culinary contribution. Charging €40 for a surf & turf is bold – but boldness is no substitute for quality. The only bright spot: the idea of ​​accompanying passing ships with announcements. But even here, it remains symbolic: the voice is barely audible.

What the hell was that? Location isn't everything. Plastic table with a foil number, not set. Ordered entrecôte with asparagus and béarnaise sauce. Asked to swap the sweet potato cream for fried potatoes. What arrived? A carelessly presented plate, with the asparagus sitting on a thick layer of sweet potato cream (like it came from a scotch whiskey glass). Making it clear to the waiter that this wasn't what was ordered wasn't easy. The plate was returned, and another waiter apologized. The plate came back, but the meat and asparagus weren't béarnaise... The waiter apologized again and got a light custard sauce (hollandaise sauce). This was then also booked as an extra. Never again at Neues Schulauer Fährhaus 😡👎

On the terrace. Bucket of lettuce of the worst kind, half a tap of beer from the deep fryer, and thin Bavarian beer. The kitchen has outdone itself.
