First Diner in Heiligenhafen

Owner/Service were great, despite nutritional limitations of mine. Liked the atmosphere a lot and felt welcome. Food was, especially considering that, satisfying.

I really enjoyed it here. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy, reminiscent of a classic American diner like you see in movies. The service was very friendly and even had time for a quick chat. The food was very good. The homemade milkshake was delicious, and the chicken wings were cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned with the sauce. If I'm ever in Heiligenhafen again, I'll definitely plan another visit.

We highly recommend the burgers and fries! Very tasty and plenty of them. We ordered the Iowa and New York Burgers with regular and sweet potato fries for pickup, which worked out great. Everything was very well packaged and arrived without any loss of quality or flavor. Thank you very much!

Four of us, plus our child, ate here and had an all-around great visit. The restaurant exudes a true American diner feel while offering fair prices. If you're expecting a small "Mecces" burger, you're wrong – the burgers are a good size and, above all, really delicious! Vegetarian options are also available. Milkshakes and cheesecake are offered for dessert (the milkshakes were great, but the cheesecake was unfortunately sold out). Overall, a very family-friendly restaurant that we definitely recommend. Reservations are essential!

Very pleasant atmosphere and very friendly staff. Today it was very busy, but the delicious food still arrived within about 15 minutes. The server was also very friendly, and at the end, there was a lollipop for the little one. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but they offer these options at no extra charge, according to the menu. I think that's cool. I can really recommend it!!!

We visited First Diner and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. We ordered two burgers – I had the chicken burger and my boyfriend had the Boss Burger with ground beef. Mine was just about edible, though honestly I could make a better one at home, and the bun didn’t resemble an American-style bun at all. My boyfriend’s burger, however, looked so unappetizing that it made us both lose our appetite – and I should add, we try a lot of burger places, and even when they’re not the best, we always manage to finish. This time, we simply couldn’t. On top of that, my boyfriend’s chocolate milkshake was served in a beer glass and was basically just store-bought whipped cream – which was obvious since the can was left out on the counter in plain sight. The interior itself was clean and could have provided a nice atmosphere, but the service completely ruined it. The older man, most likely the owner, seemed irritated from the very start – when we walked in, instead of greeting us, he immediately asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, he looked annoyed, even though several tables were free. Other guests who came in after us were directly told they were “out of luck,” despite empty tables being visible. A couple sitting next to us waited a long time before they could even place an order, and the waiter only realized it when he confused their table with ours. At the end, when clearing our plates, he looked at mine (which I had covered with a napkin, not to offend by leaving food) and sarcastically asked if I had eaten anything at all. It honestly feels like the owner has never been to the U.S. and created his own idea of a “diner,” but in reality it’s misleading. To sum up – clean interior, but poor food, unfriendly service, and an atmosphere that made us feel unwelcome. Definitely not a place I would recommend if you’re looking for a good burger and genuine hospitality.

So, first of all, the service itself. It's a disgrace that people who arrive before you are completely forgotten and have to sit there hungry while you're already getting your food. The older gentleman with the gray hair and glasses who "plays" the waiter there is very repulsive, doesn't take his job seriously, and is very unkind to the guests. Guests who don't have reservations, even though there are several free tables and there's another floor upstairs, are turned away with great disrespect. You could almost say that this guy is just plain silly. Now, the food: The burger patty wasn't prepared properly, doesn't taste fresh at all, and you'd think the meat was a cheap frozen product (which I assume). Additionally, when eating the burger, you get the feeling that they definitely didn't serve fresh food. Next up, the biggest disaster: the milkshake. In general, all drinks are served in very ugly beer mugs, which is very tasteless and has nothing to do with America. Creative and simple/logical thinking was clearly lacking. Furthermore, the cream in the shake is stored at room temperature, the shake is served with too much milk, and as a result, the shake looks disgusting and literally "puke-worthy" even after a few minutes. Thanks for making me feel sick while writing this review of the First Diner in Heiligenhafen! In conclusion, I have to say that this diner is a pure tourist trap and doesn't even compare to a proper American diner! Not recommended for people who just want to eat something delicious and be served respectfully!

A truly culinary burger experience. Rock 'n' roll meets modern tastes. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are catered for here. The chef himself serves with impressions from his time in Canada. We all enjoyed it. Correction: Impressions from the USA There's also an American beer that's out of the ordinary.

Very tasty and very good service

While strolling through the streets on our vacation, we stumbled upon this place. It immediately stood out from the other restaurants and tapped into our inner American. We were immediately escorted to our table by a friendly staff member and served quickly. For a moment, we even felt like we were actually in a Texas restaurant. Just like in the USA. 🤣 The food came very quickly and was incredibly delicious. The fries were crispy and well-seasoned. We highly recommend the chicken fingers! We would come back again and again because we were completely satisfied! A clear recommendation for anyone who doesn't just want to eat expensive fish dishes on vacation and wants to indulge in American cuisine!

It was like stepping into a diner on Route 66 in the 1950s. Top-notch burgers—we had the Boss, Chicago, and Cheeseburger. They also served delicious fries and sweet potato fries. We tried a variety of beers, and they were also delicious. The service was attentive and humorous. Absolutely excellent value for money.

Sometimes you really wonder what goes on in some people's heads. I've read a few of the one-star reviews – and honestly, I've rarely read so much intellectual garbage. People are seriously complaining that the waiter "didn't pay attention to the dog." Hello? This is about burgers, not therapy for pampered mutts. And then people show up early for their reservation, think they can just grab any big table, and get offended when that doesn't work out. Are you actually noticing anything? We had a fantastic evening. The food? Fresh, hot, delicious – burgers as they should be. Crispy fries, everything homemade, nothing carelessly thrown together. And the beer: American, exceptional. If you're a bit curious, you'll have a real good time here. But of course, if you'd rather cry about dog kennels and table times, you're missing out. The waiter was on the ball, friendly, and attentive. Our daughter immediately had something to play with, without us having to ask. Children are welcome here, not disruptive. The place was clean, tidy, and relaxed—exactly what you'd expect from a good restaurant visit. Anyone who sees problems here is probably bringing them on themselves. Anyone who thinks their pet is the center of the universe or that reservation times are "just a rough guide" should perhaps work on themselves before criticizing others. Sometimes the rating says more about the reviewer than about the restaurant. And if you're walking around with this much frustration, the burger probably isn't the real problem. In short: If you know how to behave and don't go to a restaurant with false expectations, you'll have a truly top-notch experience here. Everyone else: maybe just stay home; the dog can sit on the table, and no one will mind your chaos.

An absolute must-visit if you're in Heiligenhafen or the surrounding area. This is my second time here in 2.5 years (because we don't live around the corner) and I'm even more impressed with the food, service, and atmosphere than the first time – and that was hard to beat! The menu is manageable, and everything I've tried is unbeatably delicious! By the way, if you're going there, definitely try a shake! =)

Unfortunately, the food didn't taste homemade, but more like store-bought. The cheese sauce was very reminiscent of taco sauce from a jar. The schnitzels were also nothing special and looked very similar. The ambiance is American, and the music is a loop that played the same thing for an hour. The service was very friendly, and even our dog was welcomed. The prices are a bit excessive for our taste, but that's probably due to the restaurant's location in the harbor.

We had the 220g Boss Burger and a Kinder Cheeseburger. The burgers tasted excellent – ​​unfortunately, the fries were way too salty. Hence, one star deducted. We ordered takeout – had we eaten at the diner, we would have returned the fries. The service was super friendly; we'd be happy to come back.

My family and I visited the First Diner in Heiligenhafen at the end of October 2024 and were very impressed by the ambience. The service was extremely friendly and accommodating. The burgers were very tasty. The cheesecake for dessert was also excellent. Clear recommendation!

We were there on the “trainee cooks” evening and were more than satisfied! The menu is significantly reduced on these evenings, but what ends up on the plate is impressive. A really good burger with enough sauce and fresh ingredients that you can taste. If we're in the area again we'll definitely come back :)

We were at First Diner for the second time today. Today was “The trainee cooks” day and the food was perfect. The ingredients were fresh and requests for changes when ordering were implemented immediately. The service leaves nothing to be desired. The frozen cocktails are also recommended!
