ERDINGER am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin

The penne with chanterelle mushrooms was bland and boring. My girlfriend had three small slices of fried bread dumplings with a pot of sauce. It wasn't particularly tasty. But it's a brewery, after all. What's absolutely unacceptable, though, is ordering a "half" beer in a brewery and then getting what feels like 0.45? Unfortunately, it's bitter.

The waiter seemed friendly at first glance. We ordered our food, and it was ready in no time. My daughter ordered spätzel. It was so tasteless that she didn't eat it. My friend and I had half a chicken and a schnitzel. The chicken was as dry as a nut, and my schnitzel and potatoes came out of the fryer. When the waiter asked my daughter if she liked it or not, she replied that she didn't. He then offered her an ice cream from the menu. In the end, we still had to pay for it, and he talked his way around it. In the end, we left it at that and left. Because when I told him I didn't agree, he suddenly couldn't understand me anymore. I give the atmosphere 3 stars because the surrounding area is nice. But we'll never go there again.

The Erdinger at Gendarmenmarkt is always worth a visit. Now, after years, you can sit outside again. Erdinger isn't to blame. The city is making life difficult for restaurants. Always recommended. Best wishes ❤️

Great food and excellent service.

I'm embarrassed by the service at this restaurant. It's incredibly discouraging and lacking in customer service. The height of rudeness was when a black waiter started commenting to his colleague that he didn't get a tip. What was he supposed to get one for? I don't tip for serving my order – and I pay the bill. If the staff isn't interested in me, I just pay the bill. A tip is for something more. It's a disgrace. The food is so-so. I absolutely don't recommend the pork knuckles; they were dry.

The situation that befell us today is simply beyond comment and unacceptable, and concerns the behavior of the waiter from Pakistan, India, or another Bangladeshi. Of course, this isn't about origin or skin color, because that plays the least role. We don't know this "gentleman's" name. After receiving a rather large bill, the waiter immediately held up the terminal, clearly indicating that he should give him a tip... and that's where it all started. We regularly go to restaurants throughout Europe, and I think a waiter should earn that tip. If they think they get a tip for taking your order and saying "Hello," then maybe they should change jobs. And then to loudly comment in front of other guests and waiters that they didn't receive a tip – absolutely pathetic. The lady who brought us our food was completely different – she somehow managed to joke with our children or simply make contact, and we would have gladly left her a tip, because that's our custom :) And this waiter of dubious quality should either be replaced or at least have a conversation with him.

Really good food , and really nice staff !!! The decor is pretty cool and if you sit outside you have a view on the theater !

Authentic Bavarian hospitality. A comforting experience.

The beer and currywurst were really delicious, but when I went to pay, they didn't show me my receipt, instead just showing me the payment screen. I was suspicious, so I asked for a receipt, and they added four beers I didn't order. Please make sure to check your order before paying. We were a group of six, without a reservation, and they didn't give us good seats. We were tired and in the shade, so we just sat and ate. The beer was really good, and the currywurst was delicious. However, the service wasn't satisfactory. I don't know if it was racist or just the way it is.

For me, everything was perfect; the knuckle of pork was absolutely delicious. Very attentive service. Bottom line: a top-notch brewery in a top-notch location. 👍

Excellent value for money. Upscale yet down-to-earth restaurant cuisine. Friendly service. The location on Gendarmenmarkt is fantastic. You can sit in front of the restaurant with a view of Gendarmenmarkt. Or, now back directly on Gendarmenmarkt. Tables and umbrellas have been set up again. PS: The construction work on Gendarmenmarkt is finished!!! (As of July 31, 2025)

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The portions are good, too. But the beer shouldn't be below the calibration mark, not even by 5 millimeters.

Generous German cuisine in this Berlin winstub.

Erdinger is a dependable place for traditional German fare. Location is also great as is the service. I’ve been here often and have tried the Schweinshaxe, the Bratwurst and the Wiener Schnitzel. It’s all been solid, albeit not the absolute best you can get in Berlin.

Rude service and, what I unfortunately noticed too late, I was charged at least €5 too much.

Oh, a real Bavarian house in the middle of Berlin.

Unfortunately, we found the food to be just OK. The goulash was too dry, the spaetzle weren't that great, nor were the dumplings. A little love was missing in the seasoning and preparation. This evening, July 23rd, we had a very nice waitress who was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is nice and clean. But we won't be back; the food isn't good value for money. You can go here for an Erdinger beer.

A top place to enjoy Bavarian cuisine in Berlin. Both the food and the service are top-notch. 👍🏻 It's very busy on Fridays and weekends, so wait times can be a bit longer, but everything is still acceptable. The only suggestion for improvement would be to offer something for little ones. Because my little daughter can't just eat fries and applesauce every time. A mini schnitzel or a small vegetarian dish would be quite good. We'll be back anyway 🫶🏻

We found this lovely restaurant by chance. We had a lovley meal in a great atmosphere. Our 13yo order a plain burger, but they put sauce by mistake despite the fact that we asked not to. We told our server Ali, who immediately apologised and took it back to the kitchen. He brought a new one without the sauce. The food was really tasty (please try the Kaiserschmarrn) , portions good, price appropriate, but what was really outstanding was the service and, in particular, Ali. I strongly recommend this place!

Lovely, typical Bavarian restaurant - we were able to enjoy my terrace and a superb view of the Franzosischer Dom (and the entire Gendarmenmarkt). Good beer and good food, and in this case, for a reasonable price.

Anyone who has made an online reservation or hasn't entered their name in the calendar will automatically be given a table upstairs. There, the rustic seating is cramped and not very inviting. The service is very friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and tasted good. However, don't expect anything special. The restaurant seemed clean overall, including the restrooms. A fantastic view of Gendarmenmarkt is a must if you sit by the window. Bottom line: high prices for a snack with a sensational view.

Nice restaurant with delicious Bavaria-made beer. You can also get some Bavarian traditional tasty food here as well. The staff was very helpful and kind. Highly recommended

The Erdinger beer here is seriously so good... I tried it at other places later, but the Erdinger beer I drank here is the best!! If you go on a nice day and sit outside at sunset and drink beer, you will have a very happy memory of your trip to Berlin 😌🤍

Rather touristic as you’d expect, but the beer is good and cold, and the roast chicken was one of the best I’ve had. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend the potato salad.

I had a delicious Steak, and my friend had a Black Angus cheeseburger, which he described as probably the best burger he's ever eaten. The waiter was great, he spoke very good English (far better than my limited German) and was attentive, without hovering. A great location, opposite the French Church, a very ornamental building, with a musical bell chime on the hour. Obviously, being named Erdinger, the beer was great too,

Avoid unless you specifically request Bavarian food or if you have food intolerances. Menu: If you are lactose intolerant, the salad is simply served without dressing. Vegetarian dishes simply omit the meat. The food has the creativity of white woodchip wallpaper and is swimming in grease. Dessert: OK Service: Mixed, friendly, but as a person with intolerances or non-cannivorous eating habits, you feel more like an outcast. The atmosphere is surprisingly quiet, even at higher occupancy.

Good German food at a good price (I think it's one of the cheapest in Berlin). The portions are generous. It's a good choice for lunch or dinner. They have a terrace on the square where the monuments are located. Friendly and prompt staff.

This bar/restaurant was just round the corner from our hotel and we visited several times while we visited Berlin. It's in a great location overlooking the Konzerthaus and the French and German churches. For us, it was a place to relax and refresh ourselves after a long day of sightseeing and somewhere for a nice, casual dinner. The staff got to know us after a couple of visits and made us feel especially welcome. The food is good, the beer is cold and the prices are reasonable - what's not to like?

Our group ordered several knuckles of pork, which were very, very tough. It was a real shame to get such a poor meal in such a beautiful setting and good weather.

We had one beer and were helped by staff who didn't feel like it at all. We almost felt burdened and too much to sit there on the terrace. Treated very unfriendly... too bad for such a beautiful place.

Felt like an authentic Bavarian dining experience right in the middle of Berlin. Freshly prepared sausages and creamy mash potatoes were well received. Generally friendly wait staff made the experience a good one.

If you want classical German bier and food experience with not globally known Bayerish still tasty and excellent biers that’s the place. One of the best in da city.

The Schweinshaxe was easily the worst I had in any restaurant. I know that Berlin is not Bavaria but Erdinger is from Bavaria and they should know how to make Schweinshaxe.

Waited for at least 20 minutes and had not been served or attended to at all. We gave up at that point and left.

The food was delicious, the setting was very nice, and the service was good. However, I've never eaten such a small portion of schnitzel in my life. It would have passed for a child's portion in other restaurants! Very poor for the price. But it tasted good, even if it wasn't more than average.

Nice location. Service is okay. Food is okay. Unfortunately, it's not as impressive as the restaurant looks from the outside in the sunshine.

Staff saw a storm coming and moved us inside before we ordered so we weren’t interrupted - great work. Meals were very quick. One diner suggested 4.5 stays because a wanted an extra meatball, another thought their meatball a bit salty … but I had no complaints at all.

The online menu doesn't match the current menu in the restaurant. All prices on the online menu must be from the pre-coronavirus era. In my opinion, this is a scam or unfair practice to attract customers. Otherwise, the food is generally okay.

Food is good but sit inside! I had the impression they let the outside tables for tourists and they have the worst waiters there. Very rude and at the end they demanded tip - still I did not give any as they did not deserve it - I never had a situation like this in Germany! I would never come back, try Augustiner on the opposite corner or go to Pratergarten for real german spirit!!!

The ambiance, especially outside at the table, is nice. The food is modest. I had cheese spaetzle with salad. The cut edges of the lettuce leaves were already brown. The dressing wasn't homemade and there wasn't enough of it. The spaetzle weren't homemade or hand-grated either. The beer was okay. But you can't go wrong with that either 😉

Although a touristy spot, some of the food was actually good. We especially liked the classic flammkuchen with bacon. We love eating this dish when we are in Berlin. Sadly, the starter salad was terrible though, soaked in mayo, so we just left it. The outside tables offered great views of the square. It was lovely especially as the sun was setting. Our waiter looked after us well and even offered us blankets to stay warm. The host inside was unfortunately unpleasant to deal with though, he had a very rude demeanour but luckily we only had to deal with him once. We would come back for the flammkuchen but stay clear of their salads and the grumpy host.

Opposite the Koncerthaus, this is in a great touristy location for people watching. Although we’d booked a table in advance ahead of a concert, the first server was very rude and dismissive saying we should only have done so if we were a party of over 20. After that, service was very mixed between the individuals. The salad was not pleasant at all - soaked in enough mayonnaise to drown a bull elephant. However, the classic flammbrucken was much more pleasant and worth trying.

As a tourist I had a nice German meal. It was tasty and not too expensive. Definitely recommended. Service was great.

This was my first time at Erdinger and I was sadly disappointed. The price and quality are far apart. With a craving for a decent schnitzel, I opted for the veal schnitzel with asparagus. When I finally saw my meal, I was amazed at what a tiny schnitzel I had on my plate for 32.50!!! When I asked the waiter about it, he argued that the asparagus prices were high. The veal schnitzel without asparagus costs 24.50, and there are two! of these mini schnitzels on the plate. It's a shame, that was my first and last visit to Erdinger. There are plenty of alternatives nearby where you can get a filling meal for the price.

Yes, it's cozy and delicious. The beer tastes excellent. However, in my opinion, the benches aren't designed for long periods of sitting, so it loses one star for the ambiance.

This is based on the outdoor service. Every time they put a bar outside it’s with the minimum of effort. The location is beautiful, yet the bar they put together is shabby and basic as you like. No effort to make anything look nice. And 5.90 for a small cone of Pommes? It’s a potato… the world has gone mad.

please read if you're from the UK or none German speaking Came for afternoon drinks with a friend. We were served by a tall, grey haired waiter, who was about 55. I've honestly never been so badly treated by a server. My friend who is dutch, speaks a bit of German, its not a language I've ever learnt ( sorry) So she ordered in German and received a very nice response, polite please and thank you's. I ordered in English and was spoken so badly. My beer mat was literally thrown at me. He clearly didn't like me as I was British, even though I was very polite and tried to say thanks etc. In German. He was deliberately difficult when I asked for the beer like the person on the next table. He knew what I meant, he was just being rude. He spoke perfect English. Clearly this restaurant is happy with poor behaviour from its staff, I wasn't. He didn't like me due to my nationality however they should remind their staff that I'm a paying customer. People pay to be treated with curiosity and manners, regardless of their nationality/race etc. So really anyone who isn't German speaking should avoid here.

Here, you feel welcome as a guest – the waiters are super friendly and attentive. We sat outside in the sun and were able to enjoy not only the beautiful weather and the view of Gendarmenmarkt, but also delicious food and a good beer.

Currywurst is very big portion and delicious! Veal schnitzel is also very tasty! I particularly love the sauerkraut side dish! The apple dessert did the trick and filled the spot for sure. All in all, very good experience!

My boyfriend an ik went here two days ago for lunch. The café had just opened, but was busy very fast. We had an amazing host who brought a nice atmosphere. We ordered some nice and cool beers and along with it the mixed sausages. It was really good and we really enjoyed it. Service was fast. I would definitely recommend.

Unfortunately, the cheese spaetzle and the apple strudel were subpar and tasted like warmed-up ready-made food. Clearly not a recommendation.

Very nice service/waiter and delicious Wiener Schnitzel with potato and cucumber salad; and the salad with fried chicken was also very good! Many Berliners also come here...; speaks for itself. With a direct view of the Gendarmenmarkt included.

Nice atmosphere for a good home-style meal at the Gendarmenmarkt. The service was friendly and courteous professional. Unfortunately, the asparagus soup was only lukewarm, but was served hot after the complaint. The Viennese style pork schnitzel was ok (not overly large) and so was the potato salad. Drinks were fine too!

It was nice to sit outside, relatively little traffic, which is very positive. Food was very good!!! Unfortunately the service wasn't that good that day. It took a long time to wait for drinks to be ordered for food.

Tuvimos un tiempo horrible aquí. El personal fue grosero con nosotros desde el principio - poniendo los ojos en blanco y nos hizo sentir muy desagradable. Pedimos bebidas y luego tuvimos que esperar mucho tiempo antes de que nos las trajeran, cuando nos las trajeron - fue el pedido equivocado y nos hicieron sentir como si fuera nuestra culpa.

Repost because the restaurant apparently has bad reviews deleted from Google…. I've always enjoyed staying here, but today's experience was quite disappointing. Despite having a reservation on the ground floor, we were assigned a table on the upper floor. Vaccination records were not checked. Almost all of the waitresses walked around without a mask or with a mask under their noses. It had already been 25 minutes before we ordered, and the very demotivated waiter strolled past us several times without even looking at us. My companion doesn't speak German very well, which elicited the only smile of the evening from the waiter when ordering ("Thanks" masklessness clearly visible...). The food and drinks came quite quickly and were pushed onto the table without another word. Hospitality looks different!

Rustic, great ambience, a must if you are in Berlin.

Good offer. A little more expensive but quite ok. If you're lucky, you can quickly find a parking space nearby.
