Doris Diner in Hamburg

A lovely and clean American diner. The decor is exactly as you'd imagine. If the jukebox still worked, that would be awesome. The owner takes excellent care of his guests, without being intrusive. We only had two milkshakes and the brownie. Both were absolutely delicious. I especially recommend the blueberry milkshake, "Blueboy"!

Everything was fine except the burger

The bar is good, the food is of decent quality, although the patty on my BBQ burger wasn't great. The portions are large and the prices are fair, but the service isn't very polite.

Unplanned, outpatient visit. Excellent service; the food arrived almost immediately after ordering, and the meal (steak with potato and sour cream) left nothing to be desired.

This is a sweet neighborhood restaurant designed like classic American roadside fast food joints. The service and food aren't bad. It's a good choice if you want a quick bite.

We came here on the recommendation of a passerby. The service was incredibly fast and friendly. We felt very comfortable. The curry was especially good.

Caution!!! We wanted to go out to eat today using our Schlemmerblock (a discount voucher booklet), which was valid until December 1st, 2025. We were rudely turned away by the owner, as it was supposedly expired. Never again!!!!

The food is delicious; you can tell they put a lot of effort into it. The service is also very friendly and attentive. It's worth it!

Delicious burgers super friendly service

Unfortunately, disappointing. The burgers were okay, and the Twister fries were delicious. However, the service was terrible. The server was friendly to regular customers, but incredibly rude to us. We had a discount voucher, but it wasn't accepted because the bill had already been printed and, supposedly, couldn't be reversed. The server became very loud and repeated herself constantly, which I found very unpleasant as a woman. We had also ordered several drinks, so I don't understand why they felt the need to be so rude.

This place saw a better days, portions are big, price is fair, but its absolutely zero taste innit.

There were four of us and we had no complaints; it was delicious and the price-performance ratio was okay.

This American bar is located in the popular Grindelviertel district. The prices are really reasonable. They also offer a few vegetarian dishes. €12.90 for a large burger with fries and coleslaw—you really can't complain. The dishes are also served very quickly and piping hot.

The owner is a very good host. The food is always consistently good. They also accommodate special requests outside of the menu.

The food was delicious and filling, even if the rump steak was a bit tough. The staff and service were all the more fabulous! The staff are truly lovely and take great care of their guests. The shakes are also phenomenal, especially the Blue Boy. Highly recommended!

A few days ago, we stopped by the Doris Diner with our gourmet menu and enjoyed two delicious meals. You can't expect a high-end restaurant at the Doris Diner, but we were thoroughly satisfied with the food, service, and everything else. Therefore, the 4-star rating isn't meant as a criticism of the Doris Diner, but simply to demonstrate that there are, of course, other dining options in the higher-end segment. We always enjoy coming back to the Doris Diner and will continue to do so in the future.

Doris Diner American food at the Grindelhof. Had breakfast here today, had the "John Wayne" breakfast: fried potatoes with a fried egg, toast, and jam. It was delicious, but I actually wanted an "English breakfast." Unfortunately, they don't have it on the menu, which is a shame! ☹ Perhaps they should offer it here? They also have American burgers and Mexican dishes. And a nice craft beer, in a restaurant like you'd expect from the USA. Friendly service, and good value for money.

Unfortunately, the food doesn't taste good anymore. Every other burger joint in town offers better quality. It's a shame about this great restaurant. It looked like it had changed hands.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the burger – the patty seemed frozen to me, and the sauce tasted more like pure ketchup. The milkshake tasted okay, but it wasn't really cold and quickly became very thin. The fries and coleslaw were okay. I probably won't be back.

A local friend recommended the place to us. Visually, the place has a cozy American feel. The atmosphere is very pleasant, and the staff had a wonderfully calm and relaxed aura. The service was truly excellent; we were greeted and seated immediately. Both salads were delicious and generously garnished with tender chicken, and the garlic bread also impressed us. The bill came with a few sweets :) A definite recommendation for anyone looking for a relaxed meal!

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic. It also has a very nice outdoor area. Great location. Very friendly service. A varied menu, super tasty food at fair prices. We look forward to our next visit.

Super funny service, great atmosphere!

We come here for breakfast every now and then. Unbeatable value for money! A hearty and very good breakfast for two, along with several drinks, all for under €40. Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere :-) There's also a nice outdoor area.

We spontaneously stopped by Doris Diner; the staff was very, very prompt and really nice. The food was good, but nothing special. However, it was very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I didn't like the BBQ sauce.

Top authentic American diner with good service.

Essentially just a snack bar, but with rather steep prices. They advertise large portions, but in reality, it feels like you only get six fries with an €18 burger, which is nothing special. The owner pressures you to tip. The place is okay, but compared to other restaurants, it's below average.

Diner as it should be! What an amazing Diner dining experience! The vegan burger was absolutely delicious, the fries perfectly crispy, and even the spare ribs were fantastic. But what really made our visit special was the incredible service. The staff were so friendly, engaging, and even entertained our kids! Top it off with great drinks and a cool, authentic atmosphere, and you've got a recipe for a perfect night out. Highly recommend!

Not an absolute culinary highlight, but as a hangover breakfast it's exactly what you want. Different types of fries where you can really taste the differences. Burger was ok. I've definitely eaten worse ones, but also better ones. Milkshakes were really good and big! And every burger automatically came with a version of fries + coleslaw + ketchup and mayo. In addition, the service was very attentive and prompt. The ambience was ok, but unfortunately the interior has already seen its best days. Still, it was cool to sit in a booth like that. 🙂

Just visited Doris more or less by accident. It's a great place that delivers on the atmosphere and good, but what stands out the most is the kind waiters.

A super stylish shop, just like you would imagine an American diner to be. Very courteous service, the homemade lemonade, a dream. The food is also very convincing, so I have no choice but to give it top ratings.

Dear steak roaster, maybe you had a bad day, that's why I gave you a second try, unfortunately without success. Medium rare can be felt from the outside of a steak; it feels like the junction between the index finger and thumb. A raw steak, on the other hand, is very soft when tasted and very chewy in the guest's mouth. Apparently the good reviews are from the old owner, even if the service is very good, the food has to be good when you go out to eat.

An honest “Well”… we were in the mood for a good burger again and because of the good reviews we passed Otto’s and ended up here. The service was great! Everyone was super friendly, very welcoming, we generally felt very comfortable. Consistently Indian/Pakistani workforce. I had a bacon burger with curly fries. And unfortunately everything was frozen without exception. The patty was standard as you would expect from the supermarket, industrially produced and definitely not homemade. Unfortunately, it tasted so lifeless. The bacon was diced small and packed onto the patty with tomato sauce (!?). The taste was rather bland, the typical bacon aroma was unfortunately completely missing. And because of the very thin sauce, everything just ran out of the burger, so I scraped most of the topping off the plate with a fork. You couldn't go wrong with the fries with mayo. Food came quickly, but I wasn't surprised anymore. And it was the first time that my burger bun was not just warm, but actually hot. Due to the good weather we sat outside. Ambience OK, but nothing special. Right on the street, but there is little and moderate traffic. The furnishings inside looked very nice and like a classic US diner. Price/performance was ok, it was relatively cheap. Due to the lack of taste and no kitchen skills of my own, I honestly wouldn't go there again, because I can easily do it myself at home.

Unfortunately, the taste is not a highlight, but the burgers can still be improved a lot. Prices are quite humane. The local clientele is mixed from spontaneous couple visits to groups of friends to bar veterans who could already be counted as part of the inventory.

Burgers? Yes, but very tasty ones with lots of fresh ingredients. That's just what you'd expect from an American restaurant. The menu, however, offers much more – from great salads to chili con carne to pepper steak. No matter what we've tried so far, everything has been freshly prepared and very tasty. The service is friendly and very personal, and the decor is stylish, including a jukebox. A real recommendation, not just for a quick bite to eat, especially since the price-performance ratio is more than convincing.

Great atmosphere resembling the look of a US diner, extremely friendly owner who personally caters to all guests as well as their likes and dislikes, and finally a great selection of food and the best milkshakes in town (must try if you end up here). Definitely a place I would visit often.

I really liked cricket on the TV and I also liked the linguistic flexibility of the friendly waiter. The service was very quick, even at lunchtime, so we were able to satisfy our hunger quickly.

A great diner. We would have liked a little more comfort. But that's always a matter of taste. The food and drinks came quickly. Coffee was hot and so was the food. Also very tasty. The service was quick and attentive. We'd love to go there again.

Delicious food and great service

Nous avons bien mangé dans ce petit restaurant, type diner américain , qui propose essentiellement des burgers, de la nourriture mexicaine et quelques pâtes . Le service est rapide, les frites ou pommes de terre frites maison bonnes et dans une grande assiette, et les fajitas très bonnes et copieuses (3 galettes, une poêlée de légumes/viande à part et 3 sauces). En dessert, surtout des glaces mais pareil sur le reste (quantité et bonne qualité). Bémol cependant sur les vins et prosecco qui n'étaient pas assez frais. Conclusion : un resto sympathique, de quartier , aux prix abordables (5 € le verre de vin, 14€ le plat de fajitas, 7€ le plat de guacamole avec une assiette pleine de chips épicées, 5.50€ les coupes de glace)et ouvert le 31.12 ,

Very nice diner which we found by chance yesterday. We both ate the Porck BBQ Burger with American Twister. The taste was really good and the presentation was also appealing. An extremely friendly service that not only offers an alcoholic nightcap on the house, but also an espresso as an alternative. Nice ambience as you would expect for a diner, only the arrangement of the TVs is awkward, at least if you are offered the space underneath.

The tomato soup and steak I had were average. Maybe it's better to go with the burger options. Helpful staff and quick service. Prices are reasonable.

I've known Doris Diner for a really long time and it's good that the store exists. After the cinema, have something to eat in this atmosphere. The food is not for me. Fries, burgers and fryer stuff. Pure fat and sugar. Even the salads have American dressing. Lots of ice in the spritzers... The quality of the meat and fish is……much better elsewhere. But you really can't expect anything for the prices. Very friendly service.

We asked for a table for 5 people at short notice and got a place. The group in the restaurant was of Indian origin and also talked to each other and gave instructions in their language. However, the boss spoke German very well and was very attentive. Always asked if everything was OK and if drinks were needed without being intrusive. The selection was very good. Something for everyone. The portion sizes were exactly right. Special requests were also implemented without any problems. From the inside it looked exactly like you would imagine an American diner from the movie. Very cozy. The only “negative” thing was that everything seemed to be finished products. From the can or freezer. Nothing homemade. But still everything is of good quality, so only negative in quotation marks.

Unfortunately not good. The statement “best burgers in Hamburg” can clearly be contradicted. Whether a vegetarian burger is the measure of all things remains to be seen, but this was simply one of the worst in a long time. Unimaginative, a tasteless patty made from peas etc. Two "meat" burgers were ok, but absolutely nothing special, the buns extremely boring and sticky. The fries were delicious. Then a word about the store: Renovating is all well and good, but when the dirty ladder is in the restaurant (next to our table!), hmm. The spotlights were hanging loosely from the ceiling and our bench still had the masking tape on the backrest. Hmmmm again. The toilets, on the other hand, could desperately need a facelift. All in all in a major burger scene in HH, this is not a recommendation.

Very tasty food, the bathroom was also very clean and smelled very good. The staff is very friendly and the portions of food are very large.

The food was soooo good, I felt full from just the starter. The burger was so delicious and filled me and my husband more than enough. Fries and the coleslaw were also very good. The service came immediately and was always nice and courteous, even though we had a wheelchair with us that had to be folded up in the aisle. You have to walk three large steps to get into the store. There are parking spaces but we were all occupied. You have to look for something... Check it out and enjoy! P.s the food came very quickly 😉

Great food and a very nice owner who is very concerned about the well-being of his guests. Portions are more than sufficient.steaks on point. Only the music could be more attuned to a real diner. We'd love to come back!

Maple syrup was advertised with the pancakes and was on the menu. When sugar syrup with an artificial vanilla/butter flavor came to the pancakes, I was slightly confused and after asking twice I was assured that it was real maple syrup, which was simply a lie. I was very disappointed with it, was able to throw the pancakes away because I poured the supposed maple syrup over them and I wasn't offered any compensation. The rest was ok, but something like that sticks so much that I get upset about it again after months.

Sehr tolles Diner, ansprechend eingerichtet und sehr schneller, guter Service. Das Essen ist wirklich sehr lecker! Der Cole Slaw wird selbst gemacht und das schmeckt man! Überhaupt nicht säuerlich, sondern angenehm sahnig - wie das Original. Dann hatten wir uns zu zweit den Apple Pie geteilt, auch selbst gemacht und herausragend gut! Portionen sind generell sehr groß und preislich mehr als im Ordnung! Klare Empfehlung!
