I wasn't served because the waitress preferred to sit on the terrace, smoke, and talk on the phone. We don't recommend this place. The manager should think about it.

We've been eating here together for 26 years when we're in Cuxhaven. I came here with my grandparents as a small child. The food is always excellent, no matter what we choose. I love the lemonade in an egg shell the most. It comes with a fresh salad and a great dressing. I highly recommend it; it's simply delicious.

Disgusting! My orange juice was served with a little garnish in the glass: LIPSTICK!!! Don't they have a dishwasher or something? Absolutely the worst. Creamed mushrooms drowned in white wine, they oozed off my plate and were just bitter. I'll never come back!

June 12, 2024 Restaurant closed. The fish selection for sale was as meager as a pickled herring in a jar. If the rude salesman had uttered one more rude word, the heath and the North Sea would have been dancing rock 'n' roll! Fish sandwiches are no longer recommended. Fried fish mush, and lukewarm to boot. September 19, 2025 1:09 PM The rude, impertinent salesman is still there. We passed!

This review isn't about the restaurant itself, but rather about the fish sales area. The tone of voice ranges from inappropriate to unpleasant. No one minds a quick quip or a joke. But the presumption of a salesperson there is intolerable. As regular customers (at least, that's how we call ourselves), we've often had to listen to capricious verbal abuse. The same thing happened to customers before us, which makes us shake our heads. Should further misconduct occur in the future, we will contact management.

Perfect, but unfortunately the wait was a bit long. The food was delicious and the service exemplary.

For fish eaters who love quality, this is the best restaurant in Cuxhaven. We've been eating there for over 20 years. However, there are noticeable changes toward cafeteria food, which we're sad about. Price increases are clear, but in my opinion, the portions are smaller and no longer served on cafeteria dishes. Side dishes come in separate bowls. The staff doesn't seem as friendly as they used to be. For the first time, I ate the entire side dish to feel full. We're sad about the changes. We'll go again (230km one way) and hope that the quality remains and that everything will be just right again. I hope it's just the Corona frustration that's passing. Until next time... Price increase for redfish with fried potatoes. €20, Finkenwarder plaice €25, but the food was worth the 400 km journey. Top quality.

I can't say that until tomorrow, as we've booked a table there for tomorrow evening, but I can tell you in advance that even at lunchtime there were no tables left.

Fish sandwiches and fish to go. The meatball was great, and so was the mayo. At the competition, which tastes just as good, the sandwiches cost a little less but the service is a bit better.

We've been here many times, but these days it feels more and more like a diner. The service was irritated, and it really showed. This time, there were also long waits for drinks and food, which isn't usually the case, even though the place wasn't full.

Simply fantastic! As always! For me, the little fish box has the best fish in the North Sea – super fresh, perfectly prepared, and truly delicious. The side dishes are also top-notch: The potato salad is homemade and perfectly seasoned, the fried potatoes are nice and crispy, and the side salad is fresh and crunchy. You can just tell that the food here is cooked with passion. I'm already looking forward to the next time!

Our favorite fish restaurant. The decor is simple (wooden chairs), and you have to be aware that fish is expensive! We had the Limandes here (as always). We really like the fact that you can choose your side dish: boiled potatoes, rice, fried potatoes, or fries. I had 3 fillets (!) that were perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. They came with a butter sauce, and the salad is served in a separate bowl. During peak times, you'll need to be patient, because the fish should be fresh from the pan! But we're happy to wait for the quality.

Yes, I can recommend it. I had a prawn plate with 5 skewers of 3 prawns each and a large gamba, garlic sauce, sylter bread and a good salad for 22 euros. It was super tasty.

Today I had fish soup, but it had nothing to do with fish soup. It felt like a leek, and the flavor was 0. Oh yeah, I also found two pieces of celery and three pieces of carrot. That told me I won't be going there again (the one star 🌟 is too much for me).

We went to the small fish box in Cuxhaven and got two fish sandwiches. They were absolutely delicious! We had a salmon sandwich and a crab sandwich. The prices were absolutely reasonable, and the sandwiches were freshly prepared for us. All in all, a great snack!

Super tasty food, fast and friendly service

The restaurant is closing at 9pm, we arrived at 7:30 and the staff didn’t let us in, as they said they’re closing.. We’re disappointed

We ordered the Admiralsteller (salted beef) and were delighted. It was accompanied by a nice dark beer. Great...

I waited over 15 minutes for service with my grandchildren. Later customers were given priority. We left the restaurant and went to Bohlsen's Restaurant next door. The service and food there were excellent.

Highly recommended, especially for children. There's a play area with two children's kitchens, books, and other toys. There's also an aquarium, which is also very exciting for the little ones. There are endless highchairs, and there are lots of families there, so you don't feel like you're disturbing anyone (parents know what I mean). The food is great, everything is just right, but we were particularly impressed by the child-friendliness. The service is "pragmatic in Cuxhaven," but friendly. Everything is very straightforward.

This restaurant was recommended to me; if you're in Cuxhaven, you have to eat there. And my conclusion: I wasn't disappointed; everything was great!

Unfortunately, the plaice was unseasoned and very cold. The other dishes weren't particularly warm either, which is a real shame.

We were just about to order fish sandwiches at the bistro (a group of 4 adults and 2 children). We only overheard the two employees telling their colleague, "When you come back, you can bring a few more rolls from the back." When it was our turn, we were told, "Well, we're out of rolls for now; there will be more at some point. It might take a while..." It seemed to us that the rolls were simply in the back, and no one wanted to get them until our colleague came back from the restroom or from smoking (or from her break). Even when we asked again, they just said "later." Thanks for the super friendly service and the practical assistance. We then simply went to the next restaurant... there's plenty to choose from :)

For as long as I can remember, we've been going to the little fish box every now and then. Whether in the restaurant or at the snack bar, the food is always excellent. In my opinion, they have the best fish cakes, and the portion with potato salad is more than fair for a snack bar at €8.00. I would go back anytime.

Aside from the fact that every single product tastes delicious and very fresh, I received a very good and thoughtful tip today. The attentive "Markus" asked whether the Kieler Sprats were for us or for our dog. He strongly advised me against giving a dog anything "smoked." He explained to me in detail about long-term damage, etc. Very nice and thank you, Markus. Shopping with you—as always—was excellent.

Never again! Today's special was plaice fillet with fried potatoes. Fried potatoes without onions (I have food allergies) are not possible. Alternative fries. So far, OK. Then I had to pay an extra €3.50 for the "change of sides." That's never happened to me anywhere else. I'll never see this restaurant again.

While searching for a fish restaurant, we luckily landed here. It was incredibly delicious and you could taste how fresh it was. The homemade tartar sauce was also a delight. The service was prompt and very friendly. We sat outside, which I found very comfortable. All in all, it was a really great experience. A blackboard outside also had information about the restaurant's family history and that the fish is boned and smoked by hand. I found that very interesting, too. I had the Admiral's Plate, which was really worth the money.

After a very unfriendly waitress allegedly didn't have a seat available for us, we were called back by friendly guests who were leaving. Since our motto is "kill them with kindness," and we were very friendly to the waitress despite the previous rejection, she kindly let us wait only a little longer than the later-arriving guests. The food made up for this very North German treatment; the fish was juicy and crispy, and the remoulade was exceptionally delicious. Only the potato salad was a bit too heavy with mayonnaise. My fellow travelers enjoyed the vegetarian and chicken burgers.

A very nice restaurant with a selection of fish and meat dishes. We were there right at opening time on a public holiday. About half the tables were already reserved, and it filled up pretty quickly. So, it seems like a reservation is worth it. The staff is very friendly. The food was excellent. We had the two fish platters, which were served without any fuss and to perfection. Simply delicious.

The best fish restaurant in Cuxhaven

No, I absolutely can't recommend it. Some of it was really bad. My boyfriend loves Labskaus more than anything and ordered it. He was so disappointed 🙁 (we two women tried it too). He said you don't put Labskaus in a grinder, and you certainly don't heat it up in the microwave... It wasn't hot all over, but in some places it was so hot ♨️ that you burned your mouth... My mother's potato salad wasn't tasty either. The potatoes were way too hard, and it wasn't seasoned properly. There wasn't even a lemon with the fish; the naked fish was slapped onto the plate, very, very unloving. No lettuce leaf, no grated carrots, nothing to garnish. The fish was so-so, edible, and the potato salad only lasted for three forks. Otherwise, we eat the food we paid for without a problem - no, that was nothing!! I had Limandes fillet with a small portion of fried potatoes, which were delicious, but unfortunately there were only a few... The two fillets were tasty. But we won't do that again... The Alster was also stale... The tables weren't wiped down beforehand, and the service was unfriendly. After we complained before paying, she simply said: *No one has ever said that*... No apology, nothing! It used to be much better here. It's a shame. We'll try somewhere else next time...

Local restaurant in Cuxhaven. 15 minutes walk from the central station. The atmosphere is amazing. There are many Germans, which proves that it is a famous restaurant. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Freshly grilled food is served, and the herring is moderately oily and has a good savory taste. The cod was a little bland, so I seasoned it separately with salt. It goes really well with beer. Germany and fish may not go together, but it was fresh and savory, like eating Japanese fish. You must visit.

We spontaneously stopped by for lunch today... We were lucky and a table just opened up. We had roe perch and cod, both fried plain. The fish was really well prepared... cooked to perfection and very tasty. The price for the food was reasonable... drinks, like everywhere else, were too expensive. The fish really deserves its 5 stars, though. Service had a Nordic charm... But the restaurant was also very busy and very full.

I was approached from outside by "Die kleine Fischkiste" (The Little Fish Box). We were told we had to order our fish in the sales area and take it into the dining room, which was a bit confusing. I wanted to order my side dishes, but was told I would have to do that at the table. Unusual. Then my husband and I went into the dining room. Some tables were occupied, and all the others had signs saying "taken." Where should I put my plate of fish? The waitress immediately started complaining to me before I could sit down at a table. There were only a few seats left at a large table where people were already sitting. The fish on our plates was now only lukewarm and no longer tasted good. The waitress took the money from the people at the table. We weren't served. So we had to swallow the fried fish dry. Once and never again.

The fish is soooo delicious. We often eat lemonade there. The salad is amazing. I've also had pollock in beer batter with homemade remoulade. I can recommend it without hesitation.

Die Größe der Beilagen fällt klein aus, zum Fisch im Bierteig gab es nur 1/3 Schale Bratkartoffeln, nach der Hälfte des Fisches waren die Bratkartoffen alle, auch der inzwischen 6 Euro teuere Beilagensalat, zwar schmackhaft, aber es würde auch fast das doppelte in die Schale passen, preislich so wie im Fischereihafenrestaurant nebenan, aber die Beilagen um die Hälfte oder mehr weniger. Insgesamt aber ein schlechtes Preis Mengenverhältnis.

We were there on a Tuesday, when others are closed. The side salad, which used to be included in the order but was long ago, now costs €6 and was very small. The fish in beer batter was okay, but the side of fried potatoes wasn't even large enough for a child's or senior citizen's portion. We're from the Frankfurt/Main area. With that kind of value for money, no restaurant in the Rhine-Main metropolis would survive for long! On average, we spend between €60 and €70 per visit for two people, so you'd expect to have leftovers on your plate rather than run out of fried potatoes after eating half the fish.

The menu offers a wide selection. We're here for fish and find something we like. The ladies serving us are very friendly, and the food tastes excellent. The salad is also well-chosen with a delicious dressing. The tartar sauce is homemade and very tasty. The dessert from the daily special (raspberries on panna cotta) rounds out the meal very well.

We had a fish sandwich with fried fish. The staff was friendly. You could eat inside, but drinks had to be fetched at the restaurant counter, which meant a bit of a wait. The sandwich wasn't particularly fresh, the remoulade was sparse, and the fish was lukewarm. It tasted okay.

Plenty of seating in the dark restaurant and on the terrace under the awning. The fish restaurant also offers vegetarian dishes, but there could be more. Wait times for ordering and serving are reasonable.

Bad food: baked fish is dry and not juicy, the potato salad probably comes from a bucket and the tartar sauce is almost tasteless. Service is not friendly, therefore not recommended.

Hello everyone, After a nice trip to Heligoland, we went to the little fish box based on a recommendation and crazy, it was worth it! The waitresses were very accommodating and took their time with us. All wishes were taken into account and at the end there were even gummy bears for the “too big” children. There were four of us eating and we all had different versions of fish. I had salmon with fried potatoes, butter and shrimp. I have often eaten salmon and grilled/made it myself, as well as prepared and eaten shrimp, but the culinary experience was special! I highly recommend this meal. The rest of the table was also very satisfied, although my wife made her own mistake when ordering and therefore only looked at our food with envy, but of course she was allowed to try it .. ;) If we were in the region again, we would like to come again. Until then, we wish you all the best and a successful time! The history of the house can be read in the menu and is also very exciting.
