The fish goulash is incredibly delicious. Whenever I'm in Cuxhaven, I always take one or two portions home with me. One small request: a reusable packaging option!

Very good fish. However, if you have an allergen list on the menu and offer a dish as gluten-free, but still use flour on the fish, you're doing a lot of damage. It could even lead to legal action if someone with a severe allergy ends up in the hospital.

We stopped for a short break during a bike ride. The fish and chips were okay, but nothing more. The fish itself was good, but the breading was quite tough around the edges from being kept warm, and the potato salad was only average. (€9.50) The fresh fish counter looked quite good, and there was a decent selection; the prices were generally normal. The service was okay.

We probably wouldn't have found this restaurant without a tip from a local – it's located in the middle of an industrial area, and tourists are unlikely to stumble upon it. But the trip is well worth it: we've eaten there three days in a row now, were greeted warmly each time, and, most importantly, had absolutely delicious food every single time. Fish is definitely the star here – we read in reviews that there aren't enough side dishes. They are indeed not plentiful, but you do get more fish. And the fish – three times in a row – was definitely the star of the show. This isn't the place to go if you're looking for a mountain of fries. But if you want to eat fantastic, fresh fish, this is the place to be.

Delicious fish sandwiches! For us, they're the best in Cuxi and our go-to spot. The restaurant right next door is also very good. They have a wide selection of fish dishes, good service, and we like the atmosphere. The portions are very generous. Always worth a visit, or even several. During peak season, you should definitely reserve a table. There's good parking right at the restaurant.

The little fish box is sensational! We were here a few years ago and haven't forgotten the restaurant. It's simply fantastic again. The seating is cozy, the service is quick and friendly, and the fish is absolutely amazing! A great selection! Fish plain, in egg batter, or beer batter. Steamed too. And there's so much more! Incredible! And then a mouthwatering plate arrives, ready to fill you up! You should definitely come very hungry!!!! A variety of side dishes to choose from! And the remoulade!!!! A dream!!! Go and see for yourselves! Enjoy your meal!!!!

Unfortunately, my redfish fillet in beer batter was almost cold. After complaining to the server, the same fillet was brought to me steamed after only 1-2 minutes – aha, so it was being reheated in the microwave. The beer batter was now just floury and the fish was sticky. On top of that, the fries tasted rancid. Only the remoulade and the small side salad were okay. I can't really understand the great reviews from other guests. My sister-in-law had redfish fillet in an egg coating.

Nice place where you can order either at the counter or in the restaurant. The food was okay. The fish was good, but the bread roll was unfortunately stale and dry.

I've been there several times and the fish goulash is absolutely amazing, I'm only speaking for myself, of course that doesn't mean everyone will agree and there are other delicious fish dishes there too.

I don't understand all the positive reviews. The plaice I had was delicious, but the leftovers on the plate were elementary school-level. Instead of butter and sauce as advertised on the menu, there was only butter. When I mentioned it, all I got was a smile, and that was it.

Whenever you visit Cuxhaven, you'll always visit the "Little Fish Box." The freshwater aquarium is always worth a look. The food is very good.

We stopped by for dinner today... and we absolutely loved it. The restaurant is very clean, and the service was very friendly and attentive. Thank you.

We had two redfish that were only lukewarm. There were far too few fried potatoes and a dollop of remulade. There was no salad at all, and the Coke was still and, of course, lukewarm. You should check out the competition.

A solid 3. The prices were okay. The staff were nice, but the food itself wasn't that good. The roll was really stale, but the fish on it was okay.

It is not small, but the food is delicious

We visited here several times during my vacation and had excellent meals. Friendly service, delicious food. You should treat yourself every now and then. I tried lemonade for the first time, and it was truly delicious!

Very, very good food. We've eaten here several times, and it's more than plentiful, and the value for money is excellent. The ambiance is very nice and fits perfectly. Only the strange picture with the faces didn't fit the fisherman's ambiance at all and somehow didn't belong here. The service was very friendly. We only had to wait a while when we walked in until someone noticed us and assigned us a seat. Even though we didn't have a reservation, this wasn't a problem. The food came quickly, hot, and more than plentiful. Our second order of remolade was also accepted with amiability and brought promptly. Highly recommended.

Unfriendly, overwhelmed service, and on a Saturday afternoon. What will it be like in the evening? We were rudely asked to wait because they wanted to check if a table was available (we showed up spontaneously without a reservation). The table assigned to us was fine. We didn't get to eat because the waiter didn't return. We left after 15 minutes.

Parking right outside, very convenient. A small but stylishly decorated fish restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. The food came quickly, and the selection of fish dishes is large and varied. Everything was very fresh and extremely tasty. A place we'd happily recommend. We'll definitely be back if we find ourselves in Cuxhaven again.

We've been eating here together for 26 years when we're in Cuxhaven. I came here with my grandparents as a small child. The food is always excellent, no matter what we choose. I love the lemonade in an egg shell the most. It comes with a fresh salad and a great dressing. I highly recommend it; it's simply delicious.

Disgusting! My orange juice was served with a little garnish in the glass: LIPSTICK!!! Don't they have a dishwasher or something? Absolutely the worst. Creamed mushrooms drowned in white wine, they oozed off my plate and were just bitter. I'll never come back!

This review isn't about the restaurant itself, but rather about the fish sales area. The tone of voice ranges from inappropriate to unpleasant. No one minds a quick quip or a joke. But the presumption of a salesperson there is intolerable. As regular customers (at least, that's how we call ourselves), we've often had to listen to capricious verbal abuse. The same thing happened to customers before us, which makes us shake our heads. Should further misconduct occur in the future, we will contact management.

June 12, 2024 Restaurant closed. The fish selection for sale was as meager as a pickled herring in a jar. If the rude salesman had uttered one more rude word, the heath and the North Sea would have been dancing rock 'n' roll! Fish sandwiches are no longer recommended. Fried fish mush, and lukewarm to boot. September 19, 2025 1:09 PM The rude, impertinent salesman is still there. We passed!

Perfect, but unfortunately the wait was a bit long. The food was delicious and the service exemplary.

For fish eaters who love quality, this is the best restaurant in Cuxhaven. We've been eating there for over 20 years. However, there are noticeable changes toward cafeteria food, which we're sad about. Price increases are clear, but in my opinion, the portions are smaller and no longer served on cafeteria dishes. Side dishes come in separate bowls. The staff doesn't seem as friendly as they used to be. For the first time, I ate the entire side dish to feel full. We're sad about the changes. We'll go again (230km one way) and hope that the quality remains and that everything will be just right again. I hope it's just the Corona frustration that's passing. Until next time... Sorry for the criticism. Picture: Plaice, €18 served as is. We were there on September 7, 2025, and waited 45 minutes for the food. I asked about it and got a rude answer. Price increase for redfish with fried potatoes. €20, Finkenwarder plaice €25, but the food was worth the 400 km journey. Top quality.

I can't say that until tomorrow, as we've booked a table there for tomorrow evening, but I can tell you in advance that even at lunchtime there were no tables left.

Fish sandwiches and fish to go. The meatball was great, and so was the mayo. At the competition, which tastes just as good, the sandwiches cost a little less but the service is a bit better.

We've been here many times, but these days it feels more and more like a diner. The service was irritated, and it really showed. This time, there were also long waits for drinks and food, which isn't usually the case, even though the place wasn't full.

Simply fantastic! As always! For me, the little fish box has the best fish in the North Sea – super fresh, perfectly prepared, and truly delicious. The side dishes are also top-notch: The potato salad is homemade and perfectly seasoned, the fried potatoes are nice and crispy, and the side salad is fresh and crunchy. You can just tell that the food here is cooked with passion. I'm already looking forward to the next time!

Our favorite fish restaurant. The decor is simple (wooden chairs), and you have to be aware that fish is expensive! We had the Limandes here (as always). We really like the fact that you can choose your side dish: boiled potatoes, rice, fried potatoes, or fries. I had 3 fillets (!) that were perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. They came with a butter sauce, and the salad is served in a separate bowl. During peak times, you'll need to be patient, because the fish should be fresh from the pan! But we're happy to wait for the quality.

Yes, I can recommend it. I had a prawn plate with 5 skewers of 3 prawns each and a large gamba, garlic sauce, sylter bread and a good salad for 22 euros. It was super tasty.

Today I had fish soup, but it had nothing to do with fish soup. It felt like a leek, and the flavor was 0. Oh yeah, I also found two pieces of celery and three pieces of carrot. That told me I won't be going there again (the one star 🌟 is too much for me).

We went to the small fish box in Cuxhaven and got two fish sandwiches. They were absolutely delicious! We had a salmon sandwich and a crab sandwich. The prices were absolutely reasonable, and the sandwiches were freshly prepared for us. All in all, a great snack!

I waited over 15 minutes for service with my grandchildren. Later customers were given priority. We left the restaurant and went to Bohlsen's Restaurant next door. The service and food there were excellent.

Highly recommended, especially for children. There's a play area with two children's kitchens, books, and other toys. There's also an aquarium, which is also very exciting for the little ones. There are endless highchairs, and there are lots of families there, so you don't feel like you're disturbing anyone (parents know what I mean). The food is great, everything is just right, but we were particularly impressed by the child-friendliness. The service is "pragmatic in Cuxhaven," but friendly. Everything is very straightforward.

This restaurant was recommended to me; if you're in Cuxhaven, you have to eat there. And my conclusion: I wasn't disappointed; everything was great!

We were just about to order fish sandwiches at the bistro (a group of 4 adults and 2 children). We only overheard the two employees telling their colleague, "When you come back, you can bring a few more rolls from the back." When it was our turn, we were told, "Well, we're out of rolls for now; there will be more at some point. It might take a while..." It seemed to us that the rolls were simply in the back, and no one wanted to get them until our colleague came back from the restroom or from smoking (or from her break). Even when we asked again, they just said "later." Thanks for the super friendly service and the practical assistance. We then simply went to the next restaurant... there's plenty to choose from :)

Unfortunately, the plaice was unseasoned and very cold. The other dishes weren't particularly warm either, which is a real shame.

For as long as I can remember, we've been going to the little fish box every now and then. Whether in the restaurant or at the snack bar, the food is always excellent. In my opinion, they have the best fish cakes, and the portion with potato salad is more than fair for a snack bar at €8.00. I would go back anytime.

Aside from the fact that every single product tastes delicious and very fresh, I received a very good and thoughtful tip today. The attentive "Markus" asked whether the Kieler Sprats were for us or for our dog. He strongly advised me against giving a dog anything "smoked." He explained to me in detail about long-term damage, etc. Very nice and thank you, Markus. Shopping with you—as always—was excellent.

Never again! Today's special was plaice fillet with fried potatoes. Fried potatoes without onions (I have food allergies) are not possible. Alternative fries. So far, OK. Then I had to pay an extra €3.50 for the "change of sides." That's never happened to me anywhere else. I'll never see this restaurant again.
