We were in the little potato sack several times and were more than satisfied. The small rustic restaurant enchants with its charm, excellent cuisine and of course the great personal service. From vegan to meat-based, everything is represented and labeled on the menu. Regional classics such as game goulash are prepared exceptionally well. The highlight: Since we had reserved for the next day, an extra surprise was prepared for my vegan friend. Thanks alot!

We are currently on vacation in Mittenwald. Since I eat a purely vegan diet, I quickly chose this restaurant. The menu shows quickly and clearly which dishes are vegan. Perfect! We were warmly welcomed and the service was really attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is very cozy, we feel comfortable here. We are thrilled with the food. Very tasty and the prices are fair. We would love to come back. :)

Wir sind schon seit der Übernahme des kleinen Kartoffelsacks von Johann und Johanna hier Stammgäste und können nur ein ganz großes Kompliment hier lassen. Eine auf das Lokal und seine Gäste ausgerichtete Speisekarte ergänzt mit Tagesgerichten, einem freundlichen und netten Service, einem Koch der sein Handwerk versteht, und das bei einem ausgewogenen Preisverhältnis, was will man als Gast mehr. Von mir eine 100% Empfehlung.

Heerlijk gegeten en voldoende keuze.. Je moet hier wel op tijd zijn want voor buiten reserveren kan niet. In de zomer moet je hier niet binnen zitten. Wij hadden daarvoor gereserveerd en gelukkig kwam er al snel een plekje vrij buiten.

Our little insider tip in Mittenwald. It's super comfortable inside. 5 small tables and you basically sit in the kitchen. The owner cooks alone and is super friendly and attentive despite the stress.

We ate there on the terrace today and it was fantastic. We had the turkey steak with potato gratin and the game goulash with spaetzle. Everything was perfect! Greetings to the chef at this point. A very nice young woman served us. Afterwards we treated ourselves to dessert... buttermilk mousse with strawberries and lime.

Today we finally had dinner in the Little Potato Sack. We came on a recommendation and were not disappointed. Venison goulash was very tasty, as was the large baked potato with matjies. Food just great. The whole menu up and down. Unfortunately, the dining room is a bit small, so you have to be lucky to get a table without a reservation, as the restaurant is an insider tip.

There were two of us in “The Little Potato Sack”. The service was extremely attentive and friendly. I had a large salad plate. There were fresh and varied leaf salads, but the rest wasn't so fresh: corn, carrot salad, coleslaw - all canned. I found this to be completely overpriced for €12.99! And the taste was disappointing too! Afterwards I had a vegetable gratin. The vegetables were al dente, but only a frozen product. Taste OK. It's a shame when you have to pay so much money for it and the quality is so poor! By the way, there were countless flies on the ceiling of the bar area. It is very unhygienic and something urgently needs to be remedied.

Clear recommendation for delicious food. I can highly recommend the venison goulash with spaetzle and cranberries. The portion is generous and the price is completely reasonable. The oven potatoes with various toppings are also recommended. The only downside is that no card payment is possible. You just have to know.

Today is our last evening in Mittenwald. Where can we go and eat something good? We decided on the small potato sack. What a good decision. The weather was great so we ate outside. In a warm breeze in the pedestrian zone with a view of the pretty little houses, we ordered a potato gratin with onions and bacon. What a taste experience. We received friendly and competent service. The accompanying drinks, wine and beer, were also great. The quality of the food in the relatively small kitchen is impressive. We will be back!

We ordered Mittenwalder schnitzel and goulash from the local game. The schnitzel is very delicious, but the potato is overcooked and tasted bitter. I highly recommend it! But the goulash is not that good… it is super dry… and unfortunately, they is indeed prepared in microwave in their small kitchen, I have to say that the flavor is much better than what you can expect from the microwave. We also tried Mittenwald beer, very good! Maybe because we speak English, so the service was not that good. Atmosphere was okay, just tables were too crowded. But it is cozy.

The mittenwald schnitzel is more of a pork fillet with cheese and tomato, it's strayed so far from a schnitzel I don't think it's in the same category. Having said that it is a nice surprise balancing tangy and cheese. The coffee and hot chocolate were kinda light so there's room for improvement. The goulash was typical and about what you'd expect to get.

Very good potato gratin. The combination with smoked salmon is super delicious. Rump steak is also a culinary delight when combined with gratin!

After a while I ate again in the small potato sack. It is always admirable how the delicacies are conjured up in the small kitchen. You should try the top quality steak and the homemade lemonade. Potato lovers have come to the right place. The service stands out in the place. Top. Keep it up Team Potato Sack.

The location does not have a high ranking on Google. The food is very simple and not sophisticated - as a completely novice cook without experience or taste would prepare. The service was pleasant, everything is good here. But overall it's not above 3 stars. We won't come again.

Little insider tip! We have been happy to stop by for many years and enjoy wonderfully delicious potato dishes in a cozy atmosphere. All dishes impress with their freshness and absolute deliciousness. There is also an extensive selection of drinks - both in summer and winter. The small restaurant is very cozy. Just drop by, enjoy the good cuisine or simply a schnapps - cheers to the cosiness!

Ресторан типично немецкий, для настоящих любителей картошки. Маленький но очень удачный ассортимент, представленный почти целиком из картофельных блюд. Цены низкие, в 30 евро обойдется стакан пива, десерт и собственно основное блюдо. Не понимаю негодований мол еда с микроволновки и т.п... нам готовили еду минут 20, и вкус был явно свежим и нам как любителям картофеля очень зашло) Рекомендую. Один нюанс, без брони сюда не попасть, место маленькое и по сути тут всего 4 стола, всегда занятые, поэтому просто так с улицы не зайти - заказывайте за неделю заранее.

Es ist eine sehr kleine Gaststätte die sehr eng ist. Dort stehen nur 5 Tische (3 mal 2 Plätze sowie 2 mal 6 Plätze) Reservierung muss sein! Das Personal ist super nett und das Essen sehr lecker.

We found this place during our hiking trip around the Zugspitze. It’s really good food. We had the Gratin, one with turkey meat and one vegetarian with vegetables. It was hot, delicious and not too salty. Also the service was amazing. If we ever visit Mittenwald again, we will come back. Thanks a lot for the lovely dinner!

Unser Standardredtaurant für Mittwochs. Gerichte werden zügig serviert und sind lecker. Wenn man draußen sitzt hat man einen schönen Blick auf den Obermarkt. Drinnen ist es sehr beengt mit nur wenigen Sitzplätzen.

Hier ist alles perfekt. Das Essen wird mit Liebe gemacht und das bringt auch der Service rüber.

Servus, wir waren heute vor Ort zum Mittagessen. Wir können alles nur Loben, das Essen war Spitze, Überbackenes Schnitzel, Ofenkartoffel mit Lachs und Kartoffelsuppe. Liebevoll angerichtet bis ins kleinste Detail,die Suppe war ein Traum. Inhaberin "Kellnerin" super nett und Aufmerksam. Gott sei Dank bietet ihr keinen Lieferservice an sonst würde mein Mann Täglich die Suppe bestellen Es lohnt sich sehr und ein großes Dankeschön für die nette Zeit bei euch.

Die Bedienung war schnell und freundlich. Die Portionen waren reichlich und lecker. Es gab leider keine Kinderkarte, wir sind dennoch fündig geworden.

My wife, sister-in-law and I were in Mittenwald yesterday, April 19, 2023. Since this is not yet the busy tourist season, not many restaurant choices were available or at least obvious as being open. With a quick Apple Map search we found this wonderful 4.5 star restaurant. As others have mentioned it’s a small 5 table restaurant with kitchen at one end operated by a couple. The chef prepared hot delicious meals. Two of us for ordered potato au gratin, one Bolognese and the other veggie - so delicious! The other dish was schnitzel with potato au gratin also fantastic. The ghoulish soup also best we’ve had. Stop in here to have a meal, you will not be disappointed!

Piccolo locale con tre tavoli da due e due tavoli grandi, molto accogliente con molto legno negli arredi; noi abbiamo preso zuppa di patate, insalata di cavolo cappuccio fresco e le baked potatoes grandi con abbondante salsa, tutto semplicemente delizioso. Gli avventori erano tutti tedeschi. Abbiamo provato il dolce: un’enorme fetta di strudel con crema di vaniglia. Ci torneremo!

Wir waren nur am Nachmittag auf ein paar Getränke im Außenbereich vom Kartoffelsack, aber diese zwei Stündchen hat uns dort gut gefallen. Die Kellnerin war wirklich auf Zack und das Glas war nie lange leer. Dazu immer ein freundliches Lächeln und der Nachmittag war gut.

Wir haben spontan dort zu Abend gegessen. Übersichtliche Karte für jeden Geschmack! Für unsere kleine Tochter wurde extra eine Portion Spätzle gebracht. Bedienung sehr freundlich und aufmerksam! Wir können das Gasthaus empfehlen.

Ein wirklich schönes, kleines Lokal. Die jungen Wirtsleute sind sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Das essen war sehr lecker!

Der kleine Kartoffelsack, seit Mitte 2020 wird das kleine Lokal von Johann und Johanna mit Leidenschaft geführt. Mit der Corona-Krise habt ihr gleich zu Beginn schwere Zeiten durchgemacht. Aber ihr habt durchgehalten. Seit der Neueröffnung haben wir als Stammgäste des alten Sack euch des Öfteren besucht. Das Fazit: Der kleine Kartoffelsack ist eindeutig noch besser geworden. Die Bohnen für den Kaffee kommen jetzt aus der Murnauer Rösterei und nicht aus unbestimmter Quelle. Das schmeckt man. Der Kaffee ist vollmundig und ausgewogen kräftig im Geschmack. Er ist weder bitter noch zu schwach. Zum Essen: Heute gab es von der Tageskarte Schweinefilet an Pfefferrahm mit leckeren grünen Pfefferkörnern und einem Gratin mit Rosmarinzweig als Gruß aus der Küche. Man kann uns nicht leicht überzeugen, wir sind sehr kritisch. Aber dieses Gericht war wirklich ausgezeichnet. So manches sogenannte gehobene Restaurant (auch vor Ort) darf sich daran gerne ein Beispiel nehmen. Die drei Filet-Medaillons waren auf den Punkt gebraten, die Sauce war leicht cremig und angenehm leicht pfefferig. Gerade die Konsistenz der Sauce zeigte, dass sie wirklich selbstgemacht war und nicht aus einer Tüte ihren Ursprung fand. Die leckeren grünen Pfefferkörner rundeten das Bild ab. Das Gratin dazu war angenehm leicht und schmackhaft. Alles war sehr schön auf dem Teller angerichtet und die Menge war mehr als ausreichend aber nicht übervoll. Ein Teller muss nicht immer überquellen, nur damit dann die Hälfte weggeworfen werden muss. Euer Teller hat daher auch hier voll überzeugt. Als Nachspeise gab es ein großes Stück Apfelstrudel mit Vanilleeis. Dazu nur eins: Lecker. Fazit: Das Essen war ausgezeichnet. Ein großes Lob an den Koch, wie er aus der kleinen Küche solch ein Gericht zaubert. Der kleine Kartoffelsack ist mein Geheimtipp in Mittenwald. Hoffentlich liest es jetzt keiner, sonst bekomme ich demnächst keinen Platz mehr. ;-) Dazu habt ihr uns sehr freundlich und angenehm bewirtet. Hier nochmals ein großes Lob an die Chefin des Service. Trotzdem es viele Gäste draußen gab, seid ihr ruhig und freundlich geblieben. Das mag ich als Gast. Einziger Tipp von meiner Seite: Zu diesem Schweinefilet würde ein einfacher roter Franzose, Italiener oder Spanier super passen. Rotier Gaillac, Merlot oder ein einfacher Campo Viejo. Aber ehrlich gesagt: Das ist jetzt jammern auf höchstem Niveau an einem Ort mit eigener Bierbrauerei. Volle Sterne geben wir euch für heute. Macht weiter so. p.s.: Eidesstattlich versichere ich: Wir sind weder mit den Inhabern verwandt, verschwägert noch bekannt. Wir haben alles selber bestellt und bezahlt und bleiben unbekannt.

We had gone to Mittenwald on January 6th as a day trip from Munich. Sadly, the 6th is a holiday (Epiphany) and 99% of Mittenwald was closed. So we walked town admiring the pretty painted buildings and the Alps and looking for someplace interesting to eat. And we saw Der Kleine Kartoffelsack. How can you go wrong with a name like that? With an adorable metal sign featuring a dangling potato sack. It's a teeny tiny little place- 5 tables, 2 stools and an old wooden cupboard holding some knickknacks. We were both in the mood for soup- my husband ordered potato soup, I ordered the Hungarian goulash soup. Both of them were very very good. Mine was spicy with lots of absolutely necessary (to a Hungarian) paprika, my husband's was thick and rich and creamy. For dessert we shared a delicious germknodel with a prune filling that tasted like the lekvar my grandmom used to put in her homemade cakes. Everything definitely tasted homemade even if my husband did complain that his mother did not make her knodels that big. The waitress said that was because Mittenwald's were traditionally made in the Austrian style instead of the Bavarian style. A wonderful meal in a very scenic spot.

We visited this restaurant three years ago and loved it then. We stopped there during our recent visit to Mittenwald, Germany and found that the food is as good as it was during our last visit. Everything has something to do with potatoes and the recipes are wonderfully prepared. The owners, Veronica and Christina are very nice and treat their customers as if they were family. We just love eating here.

We had lunch in this lovely little restaurant on a cold and snowy day in Mittenwald. It's warm and cosy with lovely alpine decor. The service was excellent, a lovely friendly cook/waitress we had 2 potato gratin dishes and they were delicious.

A great little place to stop for local cuisine. The owner/staff were wonderful and treated us very well... they even had an English language menu. The specialize in potato dishes, and they had a great variety of beverages. I high recommend this little, quaint restaurant, if you are traveling through the area... especially if you are traveling from the states.

Arrived in Mittenwald late this evening to discover its in hibernation mode 😳 Most establishments were closed including the restaurant in Alpenrose Gasthof where I was staying ! Xmas season o doesn’t start here till the weekend. Having checked in I went in search of sustenance and found this little gem. It was perfect. Three beers and the Mittenwalder Schnitzel (pork escalope topped with fresh sliced tomato and melted mozzarella accompanied by a warm creamy potato salad with chives) All for €22.50!!! Wunderbar. Exceptionally friendly staff and locals made for a wonderful early evening repast. Will most certainly be returning again tomorrow. Note : Reservation recommended as it only has 5 tables.

The young owners have continued the same quality and good service from the retired owners. The inside is cozy and the outside in nice weather is perfect. The "Potato Sack" includes lots of potato choices.

We were searching for something different to the faceless expensive restaurants which pepper tourist resorts. We booked to go to the top listed restaurant in Mittenwald but we were put off by the overpriced menu. The Little Potato Sack is a tiny venue but we were attracted to it as it seemed to ooze welcoming vibes. On opening the door, we were assailed by a cacophony of German banter. The waitress was delighted to welcome us and we were seated between one table of locals who were loud and fun and another table occupied by German tourists. The ambience was electric but now down to the food: my Rumpsteak was well hung and was cooked "Englisch" which is bloodily rare. My wife had a superb pork schnitzel with baked cheese and fresh tomatoes with a hot potato salad- with lashings of fine wine at 3.50 euro a 250 glass, this is a great 👍 find! This was a night to remember and thanks to the staff and the chatty customers for making our visit so special!
