My wife and I dined at Coda for the second time on Saturday. This time it was even more special, as we also had my parents, aged 80 and 85, with us. It was the first time either of them had ever eaten at a restaurant of this caliber. And what can I say… they were both absolutely thrilled and even shed a few tears later. The entire experience there is truly indescribable. The entire menu is simply unbeatable in terms of creativity, flavor, technical skill, and ingenuity. But the service and the entire kitchen staff are also out of this world. Everyone is so friendly and relaxed, yet at the same time highly professional and perfect in what they do. And to make such a difficult undertaking look so effortless is truly remarkable. We absolutely loved it, and my wife and I are so grateful that we were able to enjoy such an evening with my parents. We will all remember it fondly – it was a memory that will last a lifetime. P.S.: We will definitely be back!

An unforgettable experience. CODA delivers far beyond what I expected - not just a meal, but a perfectly orchestrated sensory journey. Every course is built with precision, creativity, and a kind of quiet confidence that shows how deeply the team understands flavor, texture, and technique. The dishes are surprising in the best way possible. The tomato course was one of the most unique things I’ve ever tasted - clean, intense, and completely reimagined. The following courses continued the momentum with beautiful balance, playful contrasts, and an elegance that never felt forced. The drink pairings were thoughtful, daring, and honestly elevated the entire menu. Each pairing added a new layer to the dish without overpowering it. Service was warm, professional, and perfectly paced. The team knows exactly when to speak and when to let you enjoy the moment - something that’s rare even in Michelin-level dining. CODA isn’t just a restaurant - it’s an experience. One of the highlights of my trip to Berlin, and absolutely worth every moment. Highly recommended.

Had their famous caviar ice cream and I enjoyed it. Also had a hot chocolate from their homemade chocolate and it was divine. They take a lot of care in also sourcing their ingredients. An evening at Coda Restaurant Berlin is more than just a meal – it's an unforgettable experience. The menu by René Frank, who became a world champion pastry chef at a young age, is a masterpiece of creativity, craftsmanship, and pure flavor. You can feel the passion and perfection that René and his head chef Lea, who has been with him for over 15 years, pour into their craft in every detail. The entire team of 15 people attended to the 29 guests attentively, warmly, and professionally that evening – service of the highest caliber, yet wonderfully personal. The atmosphere is elegant, modern, and yet warm – you immediately feel at ease. The four of us were completely captivated: by the service, the ambiance, and the aromas and compositions, which were both surprising and harmonious. CODA is one of the most unique restaurants – even in the world. It is located in the heart of Berlin's Neukölln district. It has a very unassuming appearance; from the outside, it's barely recognizable, except for the name on the glass entrance door. To enter, you ring the bell. Three of us ate there on German Unity Day; I was there for the second time. The common title "dessert restaurant" is too simplistic; one would expect a succession of (sweet) desserts, but that's not what happens. The basis is the techniques of pattiserie, which are based on the five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami). No refined sugar is used; regionality and seasonality are essential. CODA has a smaller dining room with an open kitchen. It is cozy and modern, designed in a Scandinavian style. You feel very comfortable at CODA. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The open kitchen is a place where people work quietly and with concentration, allowing guests to witness everything, yet the restaurant and the tables are quiet. It feels a bit like home. The service staff are very professional, courteous, and attentive. You can tell they enjoy their work. The individual courses of the menu, along with the accompanying drinks and optional wines, are explained and presented very well, and questions are answered promptly and efficiently. On our evening, Head Chef Julia Anna Leitner was in charge of the kitchen and restaurant. At her invitation, we were able to visit the kitchen that evening, where we learned about the production of the in-house chocolate. It's a pleasure to be a guest at CODA. Our dinner consisted of 14 different dishes. The individual courses were of varying sizes; overall, the entire menu, spread over three hours, was very digestible, and the portions were just right. Our evening began with the famous CODA gummy bears, made from beets, as an amuse-bouche – a great idea. The small, hearty brioche, filled with spicy Gouda and baked as a light and airy donut, was truly delicious. The lettuce was brilliant, a molecular gastronomy-style dish in which the lettuce is formed into a small, wafer-thin, intensely flavored cup of leaves, filled with a dollop of cream cheese. The combination of heartiness and patisserie came together again in the raclette waffle, which was light and airy with cheese and served with kimchi and yogurt as a dip. We also ordered CODA's legendary signature dish, the Caviar Popsicle, a salty-sweet little popsicle that is an absolutely ingenious creation. It looks like classic Nogger ice cream, the sweetness comes from the homemade ice cream, and the saltiness comes from 20g of caviar, which is applied to the outside and covered in a thin layer of chocolate. Simply unique. To finish, we had Wagyu fudge, chocolate and curd balls combined with a smoky beef flavor, almost impossible to describe. We also had a vegetarian menu, which worked very well. Where necessary, good alternatives were offered; many dishes were vegetarian anyway or could be served with slight variations. Another exciting feature at CODA is the selection of drinks that accompany each dish, which is part of the menu. These are always our own creations, individually tailored to each meal. A wine pairing is optionally offered; the wines are served between courses in 0.05 liters each, which is absolutely sufficient. The menu focuses on German and French wines. At CODA, René Frank and his team offer a unique aromatic journey in a very pleasant atmosphere. The effort put into creating and preparing the menu is enormous, so the price is absolutely reasonable. The Michelin Guide has rightly awarded CODA two stars for years. We would be happy to return anytime.

Two Michelin stars and one of the few German restaurants on the 100 Best Restaurants List 2025... This raises the highest expectations, which are fully met by the service and the food. The service begins with the friendly and helpful reservation, not always a given, even in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The welcome and greeting, as well as the thoughtful, consistently attentive service throughout the entire evening, made us feel at ease. The dishes are expertly crafted, but the presentation, sequence, and creativity also justify the awards. The team came up with something special: they allowed us a glimpse into the chocolate production process. It's exciting to be able to develop a certain connection with the dishes and the team. After countless (12-14?) courses and hours, we left CODA happy.

Dedicated staff and delicious food. Yes, the experience comes with a hefty price tag but it‘s worth the experience. Nevertheless, their rather basic and underwhelming playlist really almost destroyed the experience for us and unfortunately by far didn’t live up the rest of their detail oriented approach.

Unfortunately, the concept didn't convince me; the dishes often seem very unimaginative and in no way comparable to other restaurants in this class. I only speak for myself, but overall, I found the evening rather disappointing, despite the really friendly service.

You can taste the attention to detail and the work that goes into developing the courses and accompanying drinks. Unfortunately, despite the small number of guests, it can get noisy, which somewhat dampens the enjoyment and experience.

It was a fantastic evening! The team guided us through the evening wonderfully and with lots of laughs. Thank you 🫶 we had some truly special taste experiences! (We were missing a few particularly fruity, spicy, etc. flavors, which we would have appreciated.) The dishes were beautiful and, of course, delicious 😋 the combination of ingredients was often quite surprising. Compliments for your courage 😉

At CODA I had one of the best meals I have ever had and also one of the best nights. From the beginning, the staff was really warm with me, I felt really comfortable there. Then Mr. Rene Frank came over and talked to me for a while. As a cook, I screamed euphorically inside. It was really a pleasure to have exchanged a few words with a chef I have been following for some time. I was amazed by the synergy in the kitchen, it was really a pleasure to see the whole team working. Congratulations, guys! Regarding the food, I have very little to say. Everything was spectacular, solid and well-crafted flavors. Some were better than others, but overall it was an excellent experience. *Note* Have you tried making buttercream with umeboshi? I think it would be an even more interesting idea. Thank you, CODA! I got a lot of flavors stuck in my head and they are still very much present today. Thanks for the inspiration and see you soon!

Dear Coda team, on May 10, 2025 we had the pleasure of visiting the Coda restaurant. The stylish ambience immediately appealed to us; the elegant atmosphere combined with the manageable size of the restaurant makes the stay extremely comfortable and personal. The service and all the staff that we got to know over the course of the evening were extremely friendly and accommodating. You can feel the passion and commitment with which the team ensures guests an unforgettable evening. We chose the 15-course menu, which is actually a 14-course menu, which also includes an extra course, the caviar ice cream. The menu was something special, we had never tried all the combinations before and found them extremely interesting. We were particularly surprised by some creations that we had never experienced before, including the courses beefcake/beefcake vegetarian, butter cream, raclette waffle, lettuce and parsley root. Finally, we would like to say that we really enjoyed this culinary experience. For anyone who has only ever known classic menus, Coda is definitely a recommendation - something special is on offer here. We would like to thank you very much for the great evening and wish Coda continued success and all the best! Best regards Jana and Marcel ♡

What a special restaurant! We celebrated my girlfriend's birthday at Coda, and we had a perfect evening. The service, the food, and the drink pairings were outstanding. Coda describes itself as a dessert-inspired restaurant, but it's much more than that. I'm not a big fan of sweet foods, but I was still thoroughly impressed. The specially blended drinks for some courses were a particular highlight compared to a "normal" wine pairing. Highly recommended!

Anyone who finds this small restaurant in the Reuterkiez district of Neukölln is in for a unique evening. But first, just ring the black doorbell. And take a taxi! As soon as the door opens, you enter a small, minimalist gourmet world. A warm welcome from the entire team. An intimate journey through the world of patisserie and the finest culinary art begins. The wine list has one of the most extensive Riesling selections I have ever seen. But there is also something for non-Riesling fans. The food is indescribable. It simply doesn't fit into any category. Hardly anything is sweet, which is why the term "dessert restaurant" is misleading to me. But people do need categories. Anyone who creates new dishes at a 2* level with the technique of one of the world's best pastry chefs can also be out of the box. Just let yourself be carried away. Ice cream with caviar, roots as praline, and so on. Simply fantastic. Thank you for the great evening, the kitchen tour, and to the entire team.

I had high expectations of CODA. These were definitely fulfilled. The team is very warm and approachable despite two stars. The dishes are mostly sensational and worth a visit. However, we don't know if the price would be worth a second visit, somehow it was missing that last 1% to be surprisingly phenomenal, especially since we walked out thinking we were somehow still craving something salty.

I’ve been to lots of Michelin-starred restaurants, and I have to say CODA definitely lived up to my expectations. This is a truly unique fine-dining experience that’s worth a visit in one’s lifetime. I do think it’s important tho, to expect the unexpected when dining at CODA and stay open-minded. For me personally I find it more like a taste journey rather than a standard fine-dining meal. I planned my Berlin trip specifically for this restaurant and I’m very pleased with what I got — a surprise in every bite. The combination of ingredients in every dish is very special. The flavors are well-balanced and the orders of each dishes were arranged perfectly. My favorites were carrot, lettuce, waffle, grissini, and parsley root. Another highlight that I personally adore was there’s this mix of posh, fine dishes that showcases the culinary technique and some more common-places dishes with a twist like the gummy bear and the waffle. Also, I thought the chocolate dish would be a heavy chocolate mousse like what it traditionally would be, but it turned out to be very airy and light, with a punch of umami from the shiitake. Sooo many thoughts have been put into this menu. The caviar popsicle is quite polarizing. I can’t decide if I like it or not, but I’m glad I tried it. I saw some reviews here saying they didn’t like it and that’s fair. This is why I think this is more like a journey of culinary discovery in dessert. I may not like every dish I experienced in a journey, but it’s part of it that informs the whole experience. Finally the staff were very friendly and sweet. You can tell that they are proud of what they do and love the food themselves. My phone was running low on battery and they lend me a powerbank🥹. I love the fact that no granulated sugar was used throughout the menu — only sweetness from natural ingredients. The dessert-centered concept is very well-executed. I definitely didn’t think I would enjoy it this much. If only I have a bigger stomach then I would be able to have another waffle lol. I went by myself and my table was lovely — friendly for solo-traveler. Highly recommend!

We had just a magical night, it was all perfect. The dishes are so extremely creative, flavorful, perfectly presented that in general all of them were a very special experience. You can really see the effort, passion, science and dedication to get unique and sustainable ingredients and sources in each of them. Each of them was a little work of art and we were just constantly impressed. And the entire experience, the friendliness of the staff, the expertise, the idea to letting us into the kitchen to see the chocolate refiner, the little exchanges that went beyond just the explanation of each dish actually felt close and personal and we loved all the interactions we had with the team. It is definitely a big effort for us to go there, but it was definitely worth it and this is coming from someone who has a really hard time spending such a significant amount of money on a dinner evening, but I left with the feeling that it was a lot more than just that.

I have now been to CODA for the third time since 2016. It is rare to witness how a concept and its culinary approach evolve and transform—while still preserving their identity and purpose. Dessert, or more specifically: chocolate, is at the core—but CODA is not a candy shop. It is a grown-up, serious fine dining experience. Warm, welcoming, unpretentious, yet built on a solid, unwavering foundation of hard work and the bold imagination of what seems impossible. For nine years, CODA has stood with its minimalist atmosphere, creating space—for the cuisine, the team, and the guests. The perfection in imperfection allows you to naturally become part of the whole—fully embracing the Wabi-Sabi philosophy. The menu is a journey along the borders and in-between spaces of hot and cold, sweet and savory. It makes you smile—sometimes even marvel. Playful presentations of complex compositions, beautifully served and explained by a warm and attentive team. The question: Which of the 15 courses did I like best? Or rather: What stayed with me? The caviar popsicle—because of its unusual and decadent combination of an ice cream bar and parsley root … The reasoning? Simply because … Thank you for the journey and the experience. Is it a place for every day? No. But isn’t life about collecting experiences and memories? Just like in the children’s book Frederick: We gather memories for the cold days.

Also to the drinks guy, Paul, he was killin it all night and was great to interact with as well. We have been here three times over the period of a few years, starting at the very beginning before Coda was what it is today. Something about the concept brings us back, especially in winter where a dessert menu of this caliber just sweetens the end of the year. The standout experience for me personally is the pairing and how well these potions mix with the flavors on your plate. In terms of flavors you'll be tasting layered vegetable flavors mixed with with fruits, a play of cold and warm, there is cheese, chocolate, but also bone marrow and lettuce. Techniques are from the patisserie domain, so expect sculpting, crunch exchanging with softness, creams and mousses, layers, fermented or dehydrated bites, jellies, powders. Pairings are mixed from multiple ingredients as well, it's not "just" wine. Coda may be one of the most fun fine dining experiences in Berlin, if you like desserts that is. I think what counts at this level of dining is having a concept that is different, and Coda has that for us. What I'd improve: Great that you don't have to debate whether to get the pairing and it's included. It takes away the stress from the experience. I think water should be included as well. It's not necessary to charge 8€ for a bottle of water and bring that moment of stress back in.

One of the Best Culinary Experiences of My Life My partner and I visited the restaurant, and from the moment we stepped in, it was a delightful surprise. The entrance is unassuming, but once inside, you’re transported into a vibrant space with cozy lighting and smiling faces. It felt like a warm retreat from the cold, dark streets outside. We opted for the 14-course tasting menu, and every dish was a masterpiece—each more colorful, unique, and flavorful than the last. The staff was fantastic, and we were even invited into the kitchen to see how the chocolate is made. It was clear that the chef and his team are true experts who love what they do. I was initially skeptical about dining at a restaurant centered around desserts, but it completely exceeded my expectations. This experience was a perfect blend of creativity, taste, and hospitality—a true culinary adventure.

Extraordinary, unusual, special – the CODA is an exquisite address for an unforgettable, magical evening! But first things first: The small restaurant is inconspicuous from the outside, which is why we drove past it at first. Inside, however, it impresses with a pleasant ambience with subtle lighting. Tables with a total of 20 seats and a bar counter with another 10 seats in front of an open kitchen are available. For us, the 15-course menu will be a breathtaking culinary journey through a progressive dessert and patisserie world! Anyone who thinks of variants of “chocolate puddings” is wrong. The senses of taste are stimulated in a creative and unusual way and conveyed in all directions (sweet, salty, sour and bitter to umami). A gummy bear made from yellow beetroot, a beefcake with sweet potato and almond, and a brioche with Gouda and turnip, each served as a starter, are examples of this. And every additional course served leaves us speechless with pleasure - what was just the favorite is topped in terms of taste by the following course. The adventure only ends with the final “Dragees & Chocolate” – a dramaturgy and a common thread can always be seen throughout the “journey”. Each of the creations leaves us with an enjoyable, lasting impression - fruit is confited, vegetables and whole dishes are put together in powdered form and cheese is also imaginatively combined. There are many hours and months of painstaking work, failures and successes behind each dish - which is also proven by the remarkable invitation to and a visit to the kitchen, where you can get a small impression of what thoughts the CODA team has on the subject of cocoa and chocolate and goes with every dish served. The imaginative non-alcoholic drink accompaniment matches the respective course and is a perfect complement. A separate comment on the service: The entire CODA team accompanied us that evening in an excellent, outstanding, outstanding, excellent manner - always very friendly and sensationally attentive! If CODA has set itself the task of being at the top of its competitors in terms of service orientation and of ensuring that guests have a satisfied and happy evening in this regard, then the concept has also worked here and cannot be improved. In short: PERFECT! Because even with a small farewell gift, we will have fond memories of the wonderful evening - thank you very much for that too! Verdict: Food: 5/5 | Drinks: 5/5 | Service: 6/5 😉 | Ambience: 5/5 | Overall: 5/5 Conclusion: CODA's dessert dining concept is unique, extraordinary, unusual. The individual courses and products are lovingly developed from the natural sweetness of the basic products without the use of industrial ingredients. A very nice evening for us, extremely impressive in terms of cuisine, with service that was hard to beat. The price for the menu is certainly high - but overall appropriate and worth the price in relation to the taste experience! Anyone looking for a restaurant that truly deserves Michelin stars and lives up to the quality of this award can look forward to CODA. Finally, it should also be emphasized that dessert dining may not necessarily sound like a “full dinner”, but we left CODA very full. Thank you very much for this perfect, indelible evening!

Our visit to CODA was an unforgettable experience that completely thrilled us as a family - including our teenage children, who were skeptical at first, but in the end were just as enthusiastic as we were! CODA's concept of focusing entirely on the harmony between dessert and savory dishes completely fascinated us. Each course was a taste explosion with unusual ingredients in perfect harmony with each other. The balance of sweet, sour and savory was of the highest order, yet each dish was approachable and exciting. We found it particularly impressive that our children also enjoyed trying and enjoying the creative compositions - a rare moment in which everyone at the table shared the same enthusiasm ;) The service was first class and warm at the same time. The team managed to create a relaxed atmosphere in which we immediately felt at home. They took the time to explain the dishes to each of us in detail, which encouraged our kids to be curious and open-minded. The atmosphere at CODA was modern and stylish, but still pleasantly unpretentious, so that we as a family felt welcome and in good hands. A special highlight for our children was the interaction with the chefs, who gave us insights into how the chocolate is made - that left a lasting impression! Overall, our evening at CODA was a first-class culinary experience that exceeded all expectations. We never thought our children would be so excited about this fine dining restaurant, but CODA has shown us that good food can really connect generations. Sounds promising, but doesn't deliver. The oysters and mussels were wonderful, but the rest was unfortunately disappointing. The ceviche was boring. Very small plates, but high prices. It seemed uninspired and random, with no real common thread. The service was too arrogant for me. There was no recommendation or advice about the wine, and the plates were carelessly placed in a very odd order. If the tipping expectations aren't met, you are treated condescendingly as a guest. That hasn't happened to me in a long time. I had high expectations and, unfortunately, I'm not sad that I can't do this again.
