Very unfriendly, and even though the waitress had two menus in her hand when we entered, she immediately showed us the door because we dared to ask if we could have a drink. She was still expecting guests and didn't have any space. What a disgrace, considering there were only three couples sitting in the restaurant and it was pitch black outside. We actually wanted to try it out and eat there the following evenings. But now, NO... No more desire. It's a shame how arrogant a restaurant can be. But thank goodness there are other very good restaurants nearby – for example, Fischers Fritze. We were there before and yesterday too 😉

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of enjoying dinner with my birthday guests at Carl's Pub. We both agreed that we hadn't eaten so well in a German restaurant in a long time. The service, ambiance, and food all get a full five from us. This certainly won't be our last visit. 😊

For us, this is the best restaurant in Ahlbeck. The menu is small, with two or three meat dishes sufficient. The fish soup is a must. Make a reservation.

We tried to get a seat (2 people) after 8 p.m. on Saturday, just for drinks, despite several free tables – no space available. We tried again today (Monday) with a reservation for food and drinks for every day until Friday for two people – no luck, the service staff were very unmotivated. I don't understand the positive reviews and can't comment on the food; apparently, they don't feel the need to welcome new guests.

We come here every time we vacation in Ahlbeck. The food is very high quality and regional. Friendly service, but reservations are essential. 😉

I made a reservation for Saturday by phone. This succeeded after the 6th attempt during opening hours. I spoke to a Polish woman, and it was impossible to miss it. Reserved for Saturday, 6:30 p.m. I was there. Not recorded as a reservation. Sunday, 6:30 p.m. (But we were already driving home by then.) The Polish woman (the same one I spoke to on the phone) said I had made a reservation for Saturday. "No, I'm standing here on Sundays." Carl came over and explained his employee's faux pas again. His face clenched into a fist, and he simply replied, "Mistakes happen, there's nothing available!" At least I did "accidentally," of course, bump into a set table as I left. It's just very old-fashioned and cramped.

We actually wanted to eat here and drove by earlier this morning to have a look around, but the ambiance and the lack of a menu convinced us to go somewhere else!

Of course, you have to reserve a table... it can take a while to find a suitable time... but it's worth it. I've rarely eaten so well. My husband isn't a fish fan, but even he was absolutely thrilled. And... there was no need to add any seasoning, even with fried potatoes, which is rather unusual. We were very impressed.

You have to decide early on whether you want to eat here. We did that about a week ago. And it was a good decision. We discovered the restaurant in the winter and haven't regretted coming back. The fish soup was divine, and the various versions of cod were exquisite. So plan ahead; it's worth it. Otherwise, there are no seats available.

I think they suffer from these reviews. I tried to eat here but was immediately sent away and I could only come back in 6 days! Not sure because I was adressing them in English. Too full for one person while there were empty tables! Lady was unfriendly. They are probably the victim of their own success. Avoid with that kind of attitude.

That started off well. We wanted to order the plaice without any side dishes, but everyone immediately rolled their eyes. Shortly after, the boss came over and said that wouldn't work??? We should order everything, and they'd give the rest to the animals, what was the point of that? Since my boyfriend is a picky eater, I told the boss that there was no point in throwing food away. A long discussion, the boss said no. We then ordered the plaice with everything, which was very dry by comparison. I had pan-fried fish, which was also too dry. My wife, however, was very happy with her ox cheeks. Finally, the bill included a beer, but it was a Coke, so I didn't care. We won't be coming here again, which the boss probably doesn't care about either.

Luckily, we got a table without a reservation. The food is fantastic, very creative and tasty. The service is also excellent and very friendly.

We went here for dinner today, a cozy little restaurant with incredibly friendly hosts. Every dish was beautifully presented. Many fish dishes were delicious and served at a high standard. You won't be able to get anything without ordering, so make a reservation. Highly recommended.

Tucked away on a side street, we stumbled upon this restaurant by chance and were lucky enough to get a table. So, it's best to make a reservation...the menu is small and manageable, and everything is freshly cooked to a high standard. The dishes were beautifully presented. You have to like it. It's worth trying once. It was more for older people who enjoy a leisurely wine and food. The menu was very limited and specialized, so it's best to check beforehand to see if there's something for everyone. The food was visually well presented and decent – ​​you have to like it, and yes, good, home-style German cooking is fine. An alternative brand to Coke, Sprite, and Fanta from small bottles. The service was also top-notch: The waitresses were very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We felt completely at home and immediately booked another appointment. A Monday in May. We were going out to eat in good faith. The first restaurant was closed. It was a Monday, too. The second was closed. The third was fully booked. Then we found Carl on a side street. We went in without hope. It was actually fully booked, too, but someone canceled at that exact moment. And we had our table. We immediately realized why it was fully booked. A small, cozy, clean restaurant, the service was friendly, the menu was regional with lots of fish. Happy faces all around. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was photo-worthy! Well, we had the pan-fried fish and the cod with a Parmesan crust. Both with fried potatoes. An absolute delight. We'll have both again immediately. Great. We'll make a reservation next time. You don't want to miss something like that.

I can recommend it without reservation. Reservations are highly recommended. A small, fine restaurant tucked away in a driveway. I went there for dinner with my husband. The owner and landlady seem to do everything themselves, except for the food, of course. They always have an eye for whether you need or want anything else. I ordered a starter, wild herb salad with gratinated goat cheese. We were each given a plate so we could share. The salad was great. The salad dressing was homemade and simply well-rounded, with a balanced sweetness and acidity. The candied walnuts, and the goat cheese were a dream. The main courses were fish with a Parmesan crust and ox cheeks, which were also very, very tasty. Only my fried potatoes didn't quite live up to the rest, but that's okay. We had a great time sitting and eating; the landlady was always on top of things. Great service, great food. Highly recommended.

Indeed an insider tip, you really have to look for it. We had the parmesan-crusted pike perch and the ox cheeks. Both tasted excellent and were very well crafted.

It's a good thing we had a reservation, without a reservation it's almost impossible to get a table. The food tasted very, very good, we once had salmon with asparagus and ox cheeks with fried potatoes, Unfortunately the portion of ox cheeks for €26 was not adequate. Approximately 120 grams of meat is not appropriate for the price.

Carl’s Pub is a beautiful, small and hidden pub with a lot of charm. The service is extremely friendly and the food is absolutely top notch – fresh, tasty and prepared with love. Reservation in advance is highly recommended as space is limited. A small note: only cash payment is accepted, which you should know in advance. Overall, a real “insider tip”. that you shouldn't miss!

We were out in the evening during the off-season and checked in just in case we were lucky. Since we were relatively early, a table was made available for us. The service (including the boss) is very friendly and attentive. The food wasn't just for small appetites. The plate was well filled and it was delicious. No matter whether it was fish or side dishes, everything was on point. There's something for everyone on the menu. Thank you very much for this great experience.

Waited 1 hour for the food. Restaurant full, only one service person, one cook. Totally overwhelmed. Then the food from the neighboring table was placed on our table. Our food was bad. Schnitzel was very dry. Fried potatoes were only a little browned, but there were very large pieces of bacon. We waited another half an hour before we could pay. We weren't the only ones who were dissatisfied.

Luckily we had reserved a table here. Very nice welcome and service. The food was fresh and delicious. The fish soup was outstanding - we often order and cook fish soup, but this was really incredibly good, probably the best we have ever eaten! Always my pleasure.

Unfortunately, we found ourselves standing in front of closed doors on December 16, 2024 despite making a reservation by telephone. We also don't think it's necessary to inform the customer about the reasons. As a long-time guest, absolute disappointment.

After several attempts on different days during opening hours, no one in the restaurant could be reached or answered the phone. If you're not willing or able to use your phone, you might be able to serve good food, but that's an absolute no-go. Bon appetit!

We had reserved for 5 p.m. and ordered straight away. When the food still wasn't there at 6 p.m., we were politely asked and answered rudely that the pasta with the salmon took so long to prepare. Also, it's not true that we waited 1 hour!?! You don't have to go through that - even if the panfish was delicious. However, you couldn't taste the noodles because they took an hour to prepare! It's a shame, our memory of this restaurant was actually very good.

By far the only restaurant I can recommend in Ahlbeck. As in the Baltic Sea resort in general, it's not exactly cheap. However, the difference is that the quality is also right here. Very nice service and very tasty food. In contrast to the other restaurants in Ahlbeck.

We'll give up and try somewhere else in the future. We have eaten here several times. The food in “Carl’s Pub” is certainly very good, but it is also in many other restaurants in Heringsdorf or Ahlbeck. In any case, there is no such thing as “hospitality” or “service to guests” here. The management to reserve a table is a disaster. Either you call what feels like 100 times and no one even answers the phone. Or the owner answers the phone and snaps at you, “… I can’t make a phone call right now…” and hangs up again. We don't feel like doing that anymore on vacation. Apparently they can afford it. We have NEVER felt COMFORTABLE or really WELCOME HERE.

Absolutely recommended cute little restaurant. Nice service, great chef and stylish ambience. But the most important thing is the very tasty food.

Exceptional experience at Carl's pub, Ahlbeck We had the pleasure of eating at Carl's Pub on October 26th, 2024 and it was simply fantastic! The food was of an exceptionally good quality. Every dish was not only delicious, but also lovingly prepared. The service was friendly and attentive, which made our visit even more pleasant. The other guests at the neighboring tables also contributed to a warm atmosphere, with people talking and laughing across the tables. The prices can't be beat for the quality of the food and the outstanding service - Carl's Pub is truly worth every penny! We would definitely travel to Ahlbeck again just to eat at Carl's pub. A tip: reservation is mandatory because this restaurant is a real gem not to be missed. Thank you very much for a very nice and delicious evening!

The food was very good, there was nothing to complain about in terms of taste. Reservation was a good idea as there are very few seats in the restaurant. The note ONLY CASH PAYMENT was missing here. There is a no card payment sticker at the entrance. Unfortunately this left an unpleasant aftertaste...a shame. Payment only in CASH is no longer up to date....

Everyone writes that you should definitely reserve in advance. I tried it by phone for 4 days, called easily 30 times and no one ever answered - regardless of whether it was at 5 p.m. or shortly before closing time. If you don't live nearby, you have no choice but to make a reservation by phone. You can also simply take the phone number off the internet if no one ever answers it anyway. Service is probably given very little attention here, sadly.

Great food, good value for money and nice staff

Went to Carl's Pub for dinner three times during our vacation and were completely satisfied. The smaller restaurant is located away from the promenade in a courtyard. Reservation is definitely recommended. The menu is manageable and there is a board with recommendations. This speaks for class rather than quantity. The dishes are freshly prepared with tasty sauces and the meat is cooked to perfection. The price-performance ratio is still okay here. We were always warmly welcomed and served. We've been going to Carl's Pub as a family several times on our summer vacations for ten years, which is why it's finally time for a proper review. As a family, we have tried the entire menu up and down over the years and it was always a culinary delight in a class of its own! From the delicious fish soup (which also has real fish in it ;) to the tasty herring bruschetta to the super tender ox parcels of perfectly cooked and seasoned vegetables - it's just a dream! Every fish - from pan to zander - is juicy to the point and fills you up too. Nevertheless, we usually don't miss the opportunity to nibble on a homemade warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, which is rounded off a little later with a delicious hot espresso and an old plum in a warm glass. It's this down-to-earth cuisine with a certain something that makes Carl's pub, with its friendly, North German and funny service, a very well-rounded affair every time! Everything is right here. Small restaurant, a bit off the promenade. Without a reservation it will be difficult to get a table. Nice welcome, comfortably furnished. Small menu, additionally a few dishes on the board as daily recommendations. The food was beautifully presented, fresh and superbly prepared. So delicious, we were here a total of 3 times! We went to Carl's Pub for dinner yesterday. Without a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and given a nice table. My wife and I had the parmesan-crusted cod fillet with homemade coleslaw, fried potatoes and pesto. The food was excellent, again a compliment to the kitchen! We were served very charmingly and felt very comfortable in the beautiful ambience. We really liked it, so we definitely recommend it! We'll be back.

All positive reviews are true. The food is excellent and the service is individual and friendly. I would love to eat there again, but then we would have to extend our vacation. Reserve in good time!

As always everything is perfect

The five of us had an extremely fine evening with very good food. The service was courteous and very friendly. We had fish soup; herring bruschetta; pike perch fillet; cod fillet; salmon fillet; Tagliette with chanterelles and pork fillet; as well as a special compilation for our vegetarian; then two more chocolate cakes with vanilla ice cream. There was absolutely nothing to complain about, on the contrary - even the subtle background music was to our liking 😉 (Springsteen, Stones, CCR, Tom Petty...).

The food was really excellent! We tried the schnitzel and the ox cheeks, both of which were delicious. Unfortunately the service that evening left a lot to be desired. We were there at 8 p.m. and didn't order a starter, just the two main courses. However, these were not served until 9:05 p.m. The waitress didn't even visit us the entire evening and seemed to be deliberately avoiding our table. She asked the neighboring tables several times if everything was OK, but ignored us even though we waited over an hour for our food.

Super tasty, upscale cuisine. Nevertheless, the price is not necessarily higher than the other restaurants - but the quality is also good here!

Great fish restaurant with a very small menu, where everything is made fresh. There I probably had the best fish ever in the world and I travel a lot! The restaurant can only be visited by making a reservation in advance, otherwise you will never actually get a seat. People kept coming and were sent away because everything was full. If you are a fish lover, you should go here!

Went for dinner as a group of four with a child. Be sure to reserve well in advance, otherwise it will be difficult. The food took a while, but was very good. The sauce on the ox cheeks was very strong, but went well with the dish. The fried pike perch was excellent. The service was very nice and considerate. The playground directly in front of the location is positive.
